A/N: Welcome to my Flintmione collection of one-shots! If you see anything you would like more of/expanded, let me know :)
Hoo boy, was this a weighted one to start with! If you don't want to read something about sheltering in place during an active shooter situation, please skip this one. I should have the next chapter in this one-shot collection up in an hour or two :)
All of you stay safe, and never try to be a hero in this sort of situation.
Summary: Marcus was one who always assumed he could use his strength to get what he wanted. Being stuck in the library did not fit those plans Muggle!AU

"Shelter in Place"
"What do you mean we need to shelter in place?" Marcus asked the librarian as she locked the doors.
"What I mean, Mister Flint, is that there has been a shooting down the block, and we have been instructed to lock all of our doors to keep everyone safe." She leveled him with a look. "I don't care if you have a meeting to get to, or whatever other excuse you may have, but while you are here, you are my responsibility, and I will not have you going out and getting shot! Not when being in here can prevent that!" Her arms akimbo, she glared at him just as heatedly as his own glare was.
"Look, Miss…"
"Granger."
"Look, Miss Granger," Marcus started. "I apologize if we are getting off on the wrong foot, but I only stopped in here to make a delivery. My truck is still running out there, and if there is an active shooter, that is a possible get away vehicle. I know you want to do the right thing and keep people safe, but I–" The sound of gunshots from nearby caused everyone to hunch down, screams coming from further in the stacks.
"Get into the center of the library! Put as many bookshelves in between you and the walls as you can!" the librarian called out. There was the sound of feet in a hurry to get to a safer location.
"Let me get my keys from my vehicle and I'll come right back in," Marcus said. When she replied to him, her voice was small, finally letting her fear leak out into her words.
"Do you promise?"
"I promise."
A moment later saw her unlocking the front door to the library. Marcus slipped through, staying low. He swept his gaze around the front, and seeing no one around and police cars surrounding a nearby building, he sprinted forward towards his vehicle. It was easy, getting in, grabbing his day bag and the vehicle's keys, and sprinting back. Granger waited at the door for him and threw it wide for him to get back in, locking it swiftly behind him. With his bag in one hand and his arm around her shoulders, he directed her further into the library to join the patrons.
"Do you have a radio, anything to keep an ear on what's happening?" he asked the general crowd. One patron held up his phone that had an active police scanner on it. He nodded to them. "Keep it on, keep it quiet. I'm going to go bar the door so he can't just shoot the glass out. Anyone else strong, start moving bookcases and stacking furniture in front of any windows large enough to shoot out and climb through." He went to leave, but Granger held onto his sleeve. He turned back to face her.
"What's your name?" she asked. Marcus stared at her for a moment, searching her face for something.
"Marcus Flint. You?"
"Hermione Granger."
"Nice to meet you, Hermione." He got up and headed back for the front door.
"Thank you!" she called after him, and he shot her a smile from over his shoulder.
