A/N – Time for another Evangeline/Jason fic. Please don't bring up Liason. I will post another one eventually, but Evason is my guilty pleasure.

A chance shootout on the docks in Port Charles, NY changes Evangeline Williamson and Jason Morgan's life forever. Will they be able to outsmart everyone who is against them, or is it just a matter of time before their world shatters?

Chapter 1

Evangeline got out of her rental car and slowly strolled on the docks towards the water. It is a balmy night, and the warm breeze blowing off the water makes her get lost in her thoughts while watching the lake glitter from the light of the moon. Sleep had evaded her once again, so a walk seemed like a good option. Being in a hotel room always seemed to affect her that way; especially when she had to speak in front of a large group. Thankfully, her lecture is over, and for the rest of the conference, she can relax. She sat on the bench for almost an hour before deciding she probably should return to her room. By the time she made it to the entrance of the alleyway, which led to her car, shots had rung out, so she quickly ran behind some crates and prayed that no one would find her.

Close by, Jason is battling a couple of men that may work for Faith Roscoe. Unfortunately, he is outnumbered and hopes some of his men show up. His body suddenly recoiled from a bullet as he careened backward behind some crates and landed with a thud. His gun fell out of his hand as he heard a yelp next to him.

Evangeline had covered her mouth and was panting as she stared at him. Quickly thinking, she grabbed his gun, which was heavier than it had looked, and pointed it at him.

The familiar sting of the bullet almost takes his breath away as he tries to focus on her. "I won't hurt you."

"I don't think you're in any condition to hurt anybody." Her hand slightly shakes as the weight of the gun starts to take its toll.

"They are coming. Grab my phone. It's in my right pocket." He grimaced from the pain in his arm and hoped that she'll play along.

Her gaze is locked on him as her hands start to shake harder. She has no reference for this type of situation and doesn't know what to do except to stand her ground. "I'm not going to get closer to you. You'll kill me."

Jason closed his eyes for a second as dizziness almost overcomes him. He's in trouble and doesn't have time to debate with her. Normally, he would have hopped up and shot his way out, but that is just not going to happen this time. He has already lost too much blood. "Please, you need to call for help. Just hit my speed dial."

After hearing some men shouting, she caves and moves closer, fearing that what is out there is even worse than her current position. Feeling inside his pocket, she managed to pull out the phone. She hits the speed dial and then held it up to his ear.

"O'Brien."

"Johnny, I've been shot. I'm in the alley next to warehouse fifty-two. Get here fast before they try to finish me," His head dropped to the dock, so Evangeline laid the phone down.

"Give me the gun."

"What? No."

Jason groaned. "I can shoot with my left hand. Give it to me."

Before Evangeline could decide, a bullet ricocheted behind her, and the profile of a man appeared, so she lifted the gun and pulled the trigger, her body recoiling as the man crumbled to the ground. Slowly, her gaze went to the gun, and then she eyed it as if it had just burned her before a whimper leaves her lips as Jason watches her start to fall apart.

"It's okay. He would have killed you. What's your name?" Like it or not, he'll have to rely on her if he's going to survive this.

"Evangeline." She's barely able to get it out as her lips quiver.

When Johnny suddenly appeared, Evangeline raised the gun again, but Jason yelled, "No. He's with us."

She lowered it as Johnny knelt next to Jason.

"You're bleeding pretty badly." There is a lot of blood staining the wood underneath him.

"Get her out of here. She protected me."

Johnny understood and pulled out his phone. "Francis, we need the jet and make sure there's blood in it that's Jason's blood type." He glanced at Evangeline. "Are you alright?" She's a beautiful woman but seems like she's about to crack.

She slowly nodded as tears filled her eyes.

"I need you to keep pressure on his wound. I'm just going to make sure it's safe to leave."

She moved the gun closer, just in case, and then untied the sweater around her waist before carefully wrapping it around Jason's arm and pressing it.

He grunted, making her gaze snap to his face as she took a moment to peruse him. His facial structure is angular and beautiful←perfect for modeling, and his hair is shorter, but not spiked. When his eyes suddenly snap open, they were as blue as the sky.

Jason is searching hers too, wondering what she is thinking. Even in pain, he can't help but notice that she is gorgeous. Her long hair, dark brown eyes, and beautiful mocha skin are a killer combination, and he wishes he could see her smile instead of looking so devastated.

Johnny interrupted and pulled Jason into a sitting position—propping him up against the crate. "You've lost a lot of blood." He's been shot in worse places, but he's convinced the bullet hit an artery.

Jason's coloring is all wrong, so Johnny begins to worry that he'll pass out. He grabbed Jason's gun and tucked it into the back of his pants before hoisting him up as Eva grabbed the phone.

"Walk in front of us," Johnny said. "It's okay."

Evangeline did as he asked and they moved as fast as they could through the alleyway. Once they reached the entrance, Francis is waiting, and he quickly grabbed Evangeline and pushed her into the town car as she protested. Johnny slid Jason into the back, making sure that his head rested on Eva's leg.

"Where are we going?"

Johnny turned to face her. "I'm afraid that you have to come with us."

He sees the look of horror on her face and realizes just how scared she is as he attempts to appear less threatening. "It's not what you think. We're not going to hurt you, but not only did you kill someone tonight, but you also witnessed Jason being there. So, for now, you come with us so we can protect you."

She shuddered as Jason opened his eyes, and with much effort spoke. "We won't hurt you. I don't lie."

A million thoughts are running through Evangeline's mind, and none end with her being alive, but she knows that if she tries to run, it won't end any better.

"I don't think I've ever seen you before."

Evangeline swallowed. "I'm here for a convention."

"What kind?" Johnny asked.

"Law."

Johnny groaned. "No way."

Evangeline smirked. "Yes, way. I'm staying at the Metro Court."

"What room?"

Her eyes narrowed.

"You're going to have to tell me because you'll be gone for at least a few days."

She sighed. "It's room 1201. My rental car is still at the docks."

Johnny dialed. "Carly?"

"Hey, Johnny, what's up?"

"I need you to go to room 1201. Pack up all her stuff and put her suitcases in your office. I'll have someone pick them up early in the morning."

Carly frowned. "Did something happen?"

"Yes, but I can't tell you right now. She had a rental car too."

"The paperwork is on the desk in the room," Evangeline said.

"I heard that," Carly said. "I'll take care of it."

"Thanks. I'll call you tomorrow."

Carly shrugged. "What if someone asks for her?"

"Tell them that she left for an emergency."

"Okay, talk to you tomorrow."

Johnny hung up.

Evangeline realizes that Jason hasn't moved in a few minutes. "Are you awake?"

When he didn't answer, she shook him. "Jason!"

He grimaced. "Ow."

"Sorry, but you can't go to sleep."

"Tired."

"I don't care. I'll poke you in your wound if I need to. Now stay awake!"

Jason's eyes are barely open a slit when he frowns. "That would be mean."

"Maybe you people are rubbing off on me."

Jason gave her a lopsided grin, but then his body tensed, and he groaned as a thunderbolt of pain wracked his body.

"We're almost there, Jason. Hang on," Johnny called out.

She grabbed his hand, and he squeezed it before going limp as she shook him. "Jason—Jason?" she yelled. "He passed out."

"Shit."

Francis pressed down on the gas and then drove into the airport parking lot before getting close to the plane and stopping. The man hopped out and then carried Jason to the plane.

Evangeline looked around. She could make a run for it at this point. They were too busy with Jason to notice, but just as she was about to do it, another car pulled up and Sonny hurried towards them.

"Who are you?"

"A witness. I'm Evangeline."

Sonny nodded. "Come on."

He grabbed her arm and led her up the steps, and they went inside. They laid Jason on a couch, and the doctor quickly assessed him.

Sonny watched nervously as Evangeline sat out of the way. Jason is the backbone of the organization, so he can't lose him. A witness is the last thing they need to deal with.

Johnny approached him, and they feverishly conversed as Evangeline's attention flitted between watching them and Jason.

Sonny nodded one last time and then exited the plane. It wasn't the solution he wanted for her, but it made sense for now.

About five minutes later, it started to move, so she buckled her seat belt.

"The bullet went through, but it nicked an artery." She heard the doctor tell Johnny. "I packed the entrance and exit wounds and bandaged them. If the bleeding doesn't stop, then we're in trouble. We'll have to land and get him to a hospital."

Johnny nodded as he contemplated the seriousness of Jason's condition. Getting hurt was a risk they took for their line of work, but it didn't make it any easier when one of them was down.

Francis sat beside Eva and buckled up.

"I'm Francis."

Evangeline glanced at him. "Evangeline." He's older than the others, but handsome in a rugged way. They are all large, but out of the three, he's probably a little more intimidating than Johnny.

"I'm sorry that you had to get dragged into this. Are you alright?"

Evangeline nodded. "As alright as I can be. I killed someone," she said as the adrenaline started to wear off and tears started to build.

"He wouldn't have hesitated to kill you. Hopefully, we won't have to be on the island for long, but we need to figure out what we're going to do. We'll protect you the best we can. You saved Jason's life tonight, and he's very important to us."

She wiped a tear away.

"I don't have any clothes with me."

"We'll get you some."

He pulled out his phone and accessed the notes feature. "Type in your sizes."

She grabbed it out of his hand and texted for a few minutes and then handed it back.

He copied it and then forwarded it to a contact on the island and told them to have some things sent to the villa.

"Try to get some sleep," he said before he got up and went to sit by Johnny.

She closed her eyes, thinking she wouldn't be able to nod off, but her body and mind were exhausted, and she fell into a fitful sleep.

Francis glanced at Johnny.

"There was a third man. I think he saw her but ran away when he heard me."

Francis shook his head. "Just great."

"What are we going to do?"

"I don't know. We'll wait until Jason wakes up and discuss it with him." Jason likes to be in control, so until he can't be anymore, withholding information from him or not including him is out of the question.

The doctor sat across from them. "He's stable for now. I think the bleeding has stopped, but he lost a lot of blood, so he's weak. I gave him a saline drip to keep him hydrated."

"Thanks, Dr. Julian."

"It's Leo, and you're welcome. I could use a little vacation anyway." He has worked for the organization for six months and loves the adrenaline rush. When he realized that he could make even more money doing some things for Sonny on the side, he jumped at the opportunity. If he stays on track, he can leave the country in a few years and do whatever he wants for the rest of his life.

Johnny smiled and then sat back and closed his eyes. They still have about three hours to go and then he'll make sure that everything is secure before they land.

Francis gently shook Evangeline causing her to jump. "Sorry, but we're about to land."

She nodded and sat up. "Where are we?"

"Sonny's island."

Evangeline's eyes widen. "Wait. Sonny Corinthos?" There had been a write-up in the paper about mob activities in the area.

Francis nodded.

"Corinthos/Morgan," she said softly before her head jerked up. "Please don't tell me that's Jason Morgan."

Francis grinned. "Were you doing some light reading?" There's practically an article daily in the paper about the evils of their business.

"You could say that. How is he?"

"He'll live."

"Can I at least call my family once we get there?"

Francis nodded. "Sure. Just tell them you will be out of contact for a few days. The fewer details you give them, the better until we figure everything out."

"Okay."

The plane landed and she waited until they got Jason situated on a gurney before she followed them out.

Evangeline strode into the foyer with a smile. It is a beautiful villa and tastefully decorated. The beach is a stone's throw away, and if she had to be a sort of prisoner anywhere, this would be her choice.

"Let me show you to your room."

She followed Francis towards the back, and then he turned on a light before they went inside.

"There will be more clothes delivered later in the morning. It's still early, so you should try and sleep some more." He turned to look at her. "There are two bedrooms downstairs, yours and Jason's. There are three upstairs, so Johnny and I will stay there."

"Okay."

"Goodnight." He quickly walked into the hallway, shutting the door behind him. If she moves outside the room, he'll be alerted. This isn't the main villa. That is used for Sonny only. He has several properties, and this has the least security risk and more escape routes than the others.

She went to the bathroom and turned on the shower before riffling through a dresser. After finding a short nightgown, she grabbed a pair of underwear and then retreated to the bathroom. Putting on a shower cap, she climbed into the shower and quickly washed, and then got ready for bed.

When she finally sunk into the mattress, she moaned and quickly fell asleep.
