The drawn out conflict Unova had with Team Plasma finally hit its boiling point just a few days later.
While my newfound opportunity to infiltrate Team Plasma through Colress is a valuable one, it is just as important to wipe out important strongholds of Team Plasma that were recently identified by the League. After evaluating the pros and cons and also the required manpower needed for such a large scale operation, the League had deemed it necessary to prioritise this operation over the undercover opportunity presented by Colress. It does help that Colress wasn't planning to contact Team Plasma within these few days, which gives me the time I need to assist my father in his work to eradicate Team Plasma.
The Unova League had pinpointed several large Team Plasma's bases hidden within a selected few cities with the interpol's assistance. Nacrene, Striaton, Icirrus, and Opelucid were the cities which had been confirmed to harbour a large faction of Team Plasma's forces. As such, the USF had been mobilised along with members of the interpol, together with some external help from Hoenn that had recently arrived in Unova.
Broadly speaking, Hoenn is currently the most politically and socially stable region due to the recent successful extermination of the largest criminal groups residing there. They are able to spare two of their Pillars to assist the interpol and the PWL in their tasks to help save the world, all in a sign of goodwill and friendship. Personally, I'm not surprised by this news, anyone would know that Hoenn has been very active in forging better relations with the other regions as of late if they had been following the news.
From the information gathered by the League, the stronghold at Icirrus is the most likely place that Team Plasma had transferred their genesects to and it was where my father had sent me to participate in a large-scale Plasma cleansing operation. The reason behind his decision was partly because the League needed a powerful trainer to act as insurance for this operation and I'm a suitable candidate considering both my skills and family background, it's also because my father also wanted me to quickly build up a reputation for myself as a public representative of the family just like Leticia did, which will be useful when I finally am able to assume his mantle.
I will be representing the Dandolos family in our efforts to contribute to this cause while my father busies himself with other important affairs. When I arrived at the meeting point in Icirrus most of the forces had already gathered. Black Sight is not involved in this operation but I recognised a few teams from EDGE and from the looks of it, they belong to White Sound Team. The city's Gym Leader, Brycen, will be the one leading the operation. What I didn't expect were the two people that the interpol had sent here to assist in this endeavour.
People gave me a wide berth and left me alone just for the sole reason that I'm a Dandolos, which suited me just fine. I was simply enjoying the temporary peace and quiet that comes with solitude, standing alone at a corner while waiting for things to start when Volkner of Sunyshore made his way to me.
This was the man who played a huge role in not just reducing Team Galactic down to size, but also contributed to Indigo's efforts to foil Team Rocket's Operation Skip through Indigo's Operation Unity. I don't think anyone would think that I'm exaggerating if I say that this man is the worst nightmare for any criminal organisations out there, he is just that experienced and skilled in large-scale organised crime management.
"Can I help you?" I asked, a little cautious of this man despite the both of us currently being on the same side. I had heard rumours that this man was the one to kill Olwen and truthfully, I have no idea what to think about that. Team Rocket's downfall may be the result of my actions, but this man was also the killer of someone who once truly treated me as his friend.
"Just thought we should get to know each other a little better, Batman," Volkner replied in a very laid back tone as he joined me, standing by my side while leaning our backs against the wall in the corner of the room. His raichu and pachirisu quickly tried to make friends with Grumpy and surprisingly, that disagreeable rat indulged them with a conversation. Right where we were, we were far enough such that nobody else could listen in to our conversation.
"You too?" I realised just what Volkner was trying to hint to me by mentioning Batman. I've been meeting my fellow reincarnators more and more frequently as of late.
"Vel told me about you and I recognise those eyes of yours anywhere, too unique to forget about it. Back in Indigo we have been speculating the identity of our mysterious helper and the only clue we had to identify you were your eyes."
"I see," I nodded in understanding, now knowing why Volkner recognised me as easily as he did. "So what do you want to say to me? Can't be just here for a friendly hello."
"There are only seven of us here. What's wrong with trying to get to know each other a little better? Besides, we will both be involved in this operation later."
"I have no interest in getting involved with whatever world-saving shenanigans you guys are in. I'm just here to represent my family."
"Oh trust me, me too, or at least I felt the same way you did until quite recently. Now I'm just trying to finish what I just started when I was still Sunyshore's Gym Leader. Team Galactic had been very active after my retirement without anyone realising. Speaking of which, do you know anything about those master balls?"
"No, I didn't, not until when everything was over. Giovanni and Alice made sure that nobody ever knew everything within Team Rocket just in case one of us was ever caught by the League. Master balls and Zapmolcuno were some of the things which I was not allowed to know for that very reason, just like how the other Executives have no knowledge about some of the things I was involved in for Operation Skip."
"Damn, and here I thought I might get myself another lead. Well, thanks anyway."
A brief silence filled the space between us until I resumed the conversation.
"You killed Proton."
"I did. You want revenge?"
"I'm not worthy, I'm just as guilty for being one of the reasons why he's no longer alive. Giovanni and the Executives, we may have been fighting on opposite sides but we were good friends. At least, they treated and trusted me as their friend, more than what anyone else had done for me at that point in time. Now, I'm speaking to my friend's killer like we are best friends."
"I see, it wasn't my intention to make you upset or anything, I was just genuinely curious about the last among us which I have not yet met," Volkner looked suitably apologetic after hearing what I had to say. "But if it helps, I owe you a thanks. If it wasn't for you taking the risk to warn Indigo of Operation Skip I don't want to imagine what would have happened to my wife that day. She's strong but Archer was no pushover either, and then Zapmolcuno… If you didn't give us the time and information that was vital to prepare us for Team Rocket I think everyone in Olivine would have died that day. So, thank you."
"Just doing my job, backstabbing is what I excel in afterall," I cannot help but make a painful jab at my own expense. "But your wife…?"
I honestly had no idea Volkner was married. Volkner gave a slight gesture with a jerk of his chin in a direction to a familiar looking woman who is currently walking over to us.
"Jasmine, previously the Gym Leader of Olivine."
Now his words made sense.
Jasmine walked over to join her husband. She spotted me conversing with her husband and greeted me out of courtesy.
"Hello, nice to meet you. I'm Jasmine."
"Jayce Dandolos," I replied and shook the hand she offered after staring at it for a short second. I didn't miss the surprise she felt when I saw the slight widening of her eyes. She gave a brief glance at her husband in wordless askance, who simply replied with a small silent nod. Oh great, she recognised my name too.
"Thank you, for everything."
I can feel her sincerity in those four words she said to me. For once, it felt as if whatever I had done as Operative 2046 in those dark years might have been worth it. However, that feeling was brief and fleeting and disappeared as soon as it came. I don't know what to reply and how to reply, so I simply nodded back and kept my silence.
"I didn't know you had a pikachu," Volkner broke the ice when he realised that the awkward silence between us was starting to make a comeback once more. I looked down to take a look at Grumpy, who was blatantly ignoring me in favour of talking to Volkner's raichu and pachirisu.
"Only got him recently. He's one disagreeable and murderous little furball but I think we are on better terms now. Isn't that right, Grumpy?"
Grumpy gave me a dismissive grunt with his back facing me, just as I expected him to do.
"Grumpy? And here I thought I'm the one who sucks at giving nicknames."
"He's a grumpy fella," I replied and I suddenly remembered that I was talking to one of the best and most powerful Electric Specialists in the world. "Do you mind sharing anything about how to train their species? Elesa did share a thing or two, but getting opinions from other qualified experts wouldn't hurt."
"Sure. C'mere, Grumpy," Volkner knelt down and extended an arm towards Grumpy. Grumpy stared at it for a few seconds before taking a few cautious sniff at his outstretched hand. Then to my surprise, began to climb along Volkner's arm to perch on his shoulder. He had never been this friendly to me until we worked out our differences and that took a while. Then again, this must be a part of his ability like how I befriended dark types.
"You sure move oddly. What happened to you?" Volkner asked while scratching Grumpy underneath his jaw with a finger, making him relax and letting out a satisfied purr. From their interactions alone I could tell that he's very knowledgeable about the pikachu line.
"He was a case of abused and abandoned pokemon for being born with the Everstone Syndrome. His bones on the left side were shattered, his electrical sacs ruptured and damaged, that was two years ago and most likely, he would never fully recover from it. He can never move properly again and can never fight like an electric type again. Even till now he still isn't able to manage to use anything stronger than a Thunder Shock, Thunder Wave, or Nuzzle."
The look on Volkner's and Jasmine's faces revealed to me that they both think that this was a horrible thing to do to a pokemon too.
"Unable to fight like an electric type again…" Volkner fell deep into thought while making Grumpy comfortable and satisfied with all the scratches he was offering him. "A pikachu's greatest asset is its speed, but the injury you mentioned will probably lock that avenue out. As for non-electric type offensive moves that a pikachu can learn, there aren't many options that are actually viable to make him a solo fighter that can take on powerful threats. The only role left that he can fill on a team would be a saboteur, which you should probably be good at in training pokemon to be one since you are a Dark Specialist."
"If even you have the same thoughts that I do then I'm probably on the right track. Thanks for the confirmation."
"Don't sweat about it, I didn't even do much but if you want, after all of this is over I can try to see if I can teach Grumpy how to use Magnet Rise and get it to fly. That move is my specialty and it will certainly compensate for Grumpy's mobility issue. I think it should still be possible for Grumpy to learn Magnet Rise because that move doesn't rely on a pokemon's electrical output but more on skill and control. How about that?"
"That will be nice. Anything you want that I can trade for in exchange?" I agreed. Training related secrets and knowledge are very zealously guarded among the trainer community. Be it how to teach a pokemon certain moves or how to train them to achieve a certain outcome, such knowledge is worth their weight in gold. Volkner was being very generous with his offer to teach me how to master Magnet Rise, his signature specialty that earned him a spot among Sinnoh's Thirteen Pillars.
"Nope, take it as my thanks for the things you had done for us and Indigo, take it as a show of goodwill to a friend I just made, take it however you want it. Believe it or not, I genuinely just want to try making friends with you."
"We can exchange numbers later if you want to."
"Maybe we can have a battle? Should be interesting."
"I was trained to kill, not to fight, but if you really want to see what I can do you will have the chance later."
"What kind of show will we be expecting?"
"You will be seeing a lot of red."
The Team Plasma base that we will be wiping out was located on the outskirts of the city, hidden in plain sight. From the outside, it looked just like a normal large warehouse. However, once we entered it we found a passage to a huge underground basement similar to the one I had discovered in the pokemart back at Nimbasa. That was where the true battles began.
I'm not too sure how the Unova League came across the information detailing the locations of so many important Team Plasma strongholds like the one we were raiding and truthfully I really don't care. I see Team Plasma, I get rid of them, simple as that.
"Exterminate."
My team acknowledged my orders as we simply cut our way forward without any other considerations. This was not my first time taking on an entire base of criminals as large as this. Exterminating Marowak Skull was way more difficult and I had to eradicate them on my own. This was nothing compared to what we had been through in Indigo. In terms of the influence they hold over their respective regions, Team Plasma is comparable to Team Rocket. In terms of strength, however, Team Plasma still falls short a little from what Team Rocket once was. With the exception of the ninja trio they do not have trainers whose strength could compete with Pillars. Team Rocket had their Executives and Elite Officers, Team Plasma had none of those. The bulk of Team Plasma forces are trainers whose skills are pretty much average even if their numbers made up for that deficiency. The only truly skilled trainers that I had met thus far are the Shadow Triad.
On a macro level, the only true threat that I'm aware of would be the army of pseudo Ability Holders of unknown size and those missing genesects, but I will worry about that when I get there. Furthermore, while the Team Plasma problem had shown that the leadership of the Unova League left much to be desired, it is also a fact that the Unova League boasts one of the most powerful militaries in the world. Unova may be rotting from within as we speak but its power is still not to be underestimated.
Unless Team Plasma is able to throw out a legendary pokemon or two like how Team Rocket did, Unova will always have a decent chance of getting rid of them for good.
The training my team and I had been through to try and achieve a higher level of power did show some results. We were able to take on any enemies on our own just fine no matter the skill level or numbers, leaving the rest of the participating USF forces free to subdue the Plasmas in other parts of the stronghold.
"Don't you find it weird? Such a big stronghold and yet not a decent trainer in sight."
I glanced back at Volkner who had been close by the entire time. Volkner, Jasmine, and I made an effective three man team, clearing a large part of the underground maze-like secret stronghold on our own while Brycen simply led the rest of the USF forces with him in the other direction, effectively splitting our forces into two groups to save precious time. Volkner's right. This stronghold was obviously an important stronghold to the Plasmas and usually, any large criminal organisation would at least place a powerful member or two to guard it at all times. It's simply the wise thing to do. We were expecting to run into a Pillar level trainer or two.
"They employ Darktycin technology here too. We just have to search harder," I replied, knowing that we were far from fully combing out the entire place. There are still many underground levels that we have not yet reached.
"There are very strong negative intentions below," Jasmine informed us with a lucario by her side. Her lucario was the one doing the sensing where psychics had failed thanks to the Darktycin technology employed around us.
"So the main party still has not arrived? In that case, shall we?" Volkner pointed towards the stairs nearest to us that lead further downwards and seeing that there was nothing else better to do at this current floor, we proceeded downwards.
"You think the genesects are here? Cos it doesn't seem that way to me. Forcing our way down had been too easy," Volkner asked for my opinion as we continued our run downwards. While this stronghold was big enough to hide a small army, to me it didn't really look like it was built for that very purpose but rather, to hold something else.
"I think it's likely. This place looks like it was made to hold something of strategic value that can turn the tide of any battle the Plasmas may find themselves in. The last time I found myself in a base with a design as complicated as this one it was the one that created Mewtwo."
"Seriously? This is bad."
"I'm not joking," I reiterated as my bisharp and Volkner's electivire swiftly tore down a large metal door that was blocking our way forward, hoping with all my hard that my worst suspicions would not come true. "I think we should speed up our pace, the Plasmas that we faced earlier seems to only be trying to buy time."
Our conversation was rudely interrupted by the sudden earthquake that suddenly struck the place, causing the entire stronghold to tremble violently that had us falling onto the floor. Rocks and debris started to rain down on us and the place looked as if it was going to collapse soon.
"Exeggutor!"
Exeggutor immediately erected a spherical dome of barrier around us, blocking and shielding us from the falling debris. I would have commanded exeggutor to teleport us out of here but this entire place was coated with Darktycin, which heavily disrupts and restricts psychic capabilities.
"This place is not going to hold! Any bright ideas on how we can leave this place alive?!"
"Don't look at me, I'm not a Ground Specialist," Volkner shrugged his shoulders in a what-can-I-do manner, still as laid back and carefree as I first saw him. Okay, that means that he at least has a plan, he's just being a dick about it.
"Volk, Jayce, recall your bigger pokemon, I'm going to release my steelix. Jayce, recall your exeggutor too, my lucario will take over the job of holding this barrier up."
So she's the one with a plan, not him.
Volkner and I swiftly recalled our pokemon, only leaving out those that we strictly needed. I felt Volkner grabbing onto my arm as he pulled me closer to Jasmine and the earth roared.
I could barely tell up from down as we were suddenly in for a very wild ride. The ground under me simply shifted and I felt myself suddenly rising higher and higher. Soon, we were out of the underground and floating high above in the sky on the top of the head of a humongous steelix. Even Megan's steelix had nothing on this one and hers was powerful enough.
Retired or not, Gym Leaders really aren't people that should be taken lightly.
"What on earth…"
The entire warehouse had collapsed entirely. We didn't spot Brycen or any of the USF forces that were with us earlier before we went our separate ways to raid the stronghold from two different directions. In fact, I'm starting to think that we were the only ones who got out of that warehouse in time.
"Brycen… He couldn't be dead, right?"
"Anything can happen, all it takes is a small slip-up or a little surprise," Volkner replied with a grim voice before turning back to look at his gallade who shook his head in a negative, telling us that it was also unable to sense anything useful.
Jasmine's lucario suddenly threw up a huge shield of Protect, saving us from being decimated by a surprise attack by just a hair's breadth. Powerful energy beams had suddenly shot at us from underground where the warehouse once stood, the attacks powerful enough to reduce anything it passed through into dust. If it wasn't for Jasmine's lucario foreseeing the attacks with its masterful ability to harness aura we might really have been assassinated without us knowing how or why.
"Steely! Flash Cannon!"
Jasmine's steelix retaliation with a Flash Cannon of equal intensity at where the attacks had shot at us from, further demolishing the area.
"Did you see that?" Volkner spoke with a very serious voice, an indication that he was no longer playing around. "Those beams, they each look like a Hyper Beam but yet not a Hyper Beam. Each of them had other elemental energies mixed into it."
"I spotted fire, lightning, and I think ice too."
"There was water, and the last one looks just like a powered-up Hyper Beam, probably normal type. What's more, I couldn't tell just what those attacks were," Jasmine added.
"I don't think any of us could tell what those were, Jas."
"Incoming!"
Jasmine's steelix effortlessly blocked the next salvos of energy beams heading our way. I counted five of them and true to our earlier observations, each of those beams were very similar, just each possessing a different elemental type to it.
"That must be what caused the earthquake, we need to flush them out!" Volkner shouted over the din as he primed a pokeball in his hand. "Jas, get us down there, I'm going to release Tec."
"May I ask what is a Tec?"
I find it necessary to ask that question just so that I know what to expect next. This is a problem whenever you have to work with a complete stranger who happens to be the type to give nicknames to all of their pokemon. You never know what on earth they will be sending out based on their pokemon's nicknames.
"My rhyperior. Cover me."
I signalled for bisharp and umbreon to assist in defending us against the onslaught of those powerful beams while Jasmine's steelix tried to make a quick and safe landing despite being bombarded by powerful attacks that could probably easily tear a hole even through hydreigon. These attacks were nothing to joke about, they were too powerful to be released from any normal pokemon. This served to make me further appreciate just how tough Jasmine's defences were. No wonder she was called the Iron Wall of Olivine and no wonder she was the one selected to defend the city as its Gym Leader. I had heard that she and her team were what defended Olivine from Zapmolcuno's attacks and that she was one reason why the city had not yet been obliterated.
The world really is a huge place. There are so many kinds of powerful trainers around.
Jasmine's steelix did manage to get us down safely, allowing us to finally release our entire teams to properly fight against whatever that were trying to take us out with artillery fire with the firepower of multiple tactical laser beams. Volkner finally managed to release his rhyperior which wasted no time upturning the earth with a powerful groan and we finally got to see for ourselves just what had been trying to kill us.
"I've never seen this creature in my entire life but I think it is what it is. Batman?"
"Genesect," I gritted out, recalling the details about this revived ancient mythical pokemon that I learned about from my father. I understand that their successful revival was only made possible thanks to Shannon's and Mary's unwilling contribution but if these pests were here and openly hostile, it means that whatever failsafes Mary had tried to install into them behind Team Plasma's backs was not working as intended.
A hostile mythical threat is never good news, much less five of them.
"Genesect! Mythical level fossil pokemon, steel-bug type! Ability is Download! Modified by Team Plasma and is more cyborg than pokemon! Very powerful long and close range offensive capabilities, do not underestimate it!" I quickly shouted out whatever little I knew about this enhanced pokemon to Volkner and Jasmine while commanding ninetales to buy us some time with the release of a powerful Inferno. These guys did not just possess the offensive power of a tactical laser beam individually, they were also impossibly fast and were somehow able to fly and zoom around our heads in the sky above.
"They are flying with Magnet Rise. This is troublesome," Volkner muttered while Jasmine's steel types did a great job in preventing us from being obliterated entirely by those laser beams.
"I can try to see if I can get them with Hypnosis but their speed is an issue. We cannot catch them like this," I informed Volkner and the look in his eyes immediately changed after I told him that.
"Great. Look, I have a plan, a very simple one. Jas, you make sure we stay safe. Speed is my thing, so me and my team will go up and race with those bugs and paralyse them, that should knock them back down onto the ground. After that, Batman, it will be your job to put them to sleep and hopefully this is enough to resolve the pest problem."
"Then let's do it."
Volkner's and Jasmine's pokemon split up accordingly in a display of teamwork that was obviously perfected over a long period of time, most of them somehow being able to achieve flight capabilities in what I assume to be an application of Magnet Rise. Volkner wasn't boasting that his pokemon was able to race with those annoying pests. His electric types were so fast that they appeared as numerous yellow blurs in the sky while Jasmine's steel types placed themselves in strategic positions to defend both Volkner and his pokemon in the sky and us below.
Unlike the pest problem from the prior volcarona situation, this time, I have the perfect insecticide to conduct a proper pest extermination.
"Nosy, Download, analyse flight patterns," I spoke as my porygon-z made a rare appearance instead of staying within where he usually dwells in my smartwatch, observing the battles in the sky with a neutral and analytical gaze. Download is a very curious and unique ability that to my knowledge, is only available to the porygon line. I don't know what Mary did when she was forced to help Team Plasma "perfect" and modify genesect, but for genesect to now possess Download as an ability it must mean that she had somehow applied whatever was used to create porygons into creating genesect.
In battle, Download enables the porygon to quantify their opponent's abilities and strengths into numbers, allowing them to quickly analyse, judge, and adapt to their opponents accordingly. Porygons who are skilled in this ability can use it to adjust and raise their offensive or defensive powers accordingly in response to the type of opponent they are facing but Nosy isn't a battler. Rather, his main job is to help analyse attack patterns and predict their moves before they happen. Usually, the occasions of us having to rely on Nosy's analytical abilities in an ongoing battle were rare, but this is the one time that his ability is the one that we need right now. Genesect may also have this same ability but they are obviously novices in it, still too young to know how to utilise it because they couldn't be much older than two weeks old when Mary and Shannon had only just perfected the genesects very recently.
"Volk has a porygon-z too, see if yours can send over the data to his," Jasmine quickly told me after she spotted Nosy. Nosy's ringed yellow eyes began to blink erratically and soon, we saw an obvious change in the movements of Volkner's electric types, moving in such a way that they are now easily directing the flow of the battle and herding those pesky robot bugs in the direction he wanted them to.
"Prepare to go in," I told my team when I saw that Volkner's electric types finally managed to nail all of the genesects together in one huge burst of Shock Wave and Thunder Wave, frying them until they were visibly smoking and I finally gave my team the command to put the last part of the plan in action. My team was already moving when the genesect were dropping down from the skies and they caught each of the five genesects in a Hypnosis the moment they crashed down, putting them out of commission instantly.
We were extremely lucky that these genesects were too young to know how to properly use their powers. Putting them down wouldn't be as easy otherwise.
"Hey, we work pretty well together after all. You also gotta teach me how you taught your porygon-z to use Download like that. We never knew it could be used in this manner," Volkner slapped me on the back after he touched down, his own porygon-z floating beside him as well. Our porygon-zs began to stare at each other and presumably communicate through erratic strobes of flashing lights emitted from their eyes.
"My porygon-z is not a battler but he's very skilled in helping me run simulations. I usually will have him help record the training sessions I put my team through and analyse them to pick out the flaws so that we can try to achieve perfection. This is probably not too different from what he is used to doing. If you want, we can find time to exchange notes," I offered Volkner, knowing that this should be a fair trade to his offer of teaching Grumpy Magnet Rise. Like this, I wouldn't need to owe him anything.
"That might explain it. My porygon-z usually helps me with organising files and stuff and replying to emails, he doesn't really have a chance to use his ability most of the time. Hey, meet Jarvis," Volkner proudly introduced his porygon-z to me as if wanting me to understand the inside joke that he was dying to share with me. I simply ignored his antics.
"Volk? You might want to see this, they can be captured," Jasmine called out from where she was crouching, holding up a pokeball where a genesect was lying previously. The genesect she captured was obviously the leader due to its different colouration and much stronger firepower. Still, it was a surprise that the genesect could be caught. Maybe our raid was an untimely intervention to the Plasmas such that they had to release them and use it against us before they could properly tame and capture it themselves.
"It's a steel type too, right? My beautiful wife, you just got yourself a Mythical level steel type pokemon! It's a cause for celebration!" Volkner cheered out loud, looking genuinely happy for Jasmine and I rolled my eyes.
"If you two are going to continue to flirt right here I'm taking my leave."
Jasmine visibly blushed at my words but Volkner looked entirely unaffected by it. Still, that did not stop him from quickly trying to capture the remaining four defenceless genesects and he succeeded.
"We need to get people to help us find Brycen and the USF forces," Jasmine reminded us after we were done capturing the genesects. Till now, nobody from the raid team had emerged from the destroyed warehouse. Where it now stood was a huge crater thanks to the genesects from earlier, blocking our entry to its underground basement where the stronghold was located.
None of us said a word, but we all knew that it was very likely that Brycen and the USF forces that were with him had been obliterated by the combined might of the five genesects from an unexpected ambush. The destructive energy blasts that they could fire off with such a short cooldown wasn't a laughing matter, even trainers like Elesa and my Dad would have problems with it because just getting hit once by one of those beams could put a hole through any of their pokemon. Only trainers like Jasmine and Volkner could possibly deal with those pests because they are suited for it. The speed of Volkner's pokemon are too fast for anyone to get a proper lock on them while Jasmine's pokemon are capable of tanking a shot from legends like Zapmolcuno and still lived to tell the tale. They are probably the only ones who could possibly handle the genesects without coming to harm themselves.
Brycen wasn't weak, the genesects were just a bad matchup for him, especially if he got caught in an ambush. He was just very unlucky.
Very, very unlucky.
