Before you read this story, I got permission from Ashbel Longhart, fanfiction author of Amnesia Swordsman, to utilize concepts from their story within this story. I have written this one chapter because I wanted to try my hand at a Bleach x RWBY story, while committing to only doing one chapter for now as not to derail other stories, which sees Bleach elements planted within the RWBY world. My goal beyond that was to utilize Ichigo as the main character.
Even with amnesia, I still hope to keep his personality, barring any character growth and development stemming from this point, intact. While I have your attention, as you read, you'll notice there will be no hints of shipping with Ruby. That is because I wish to try my hand at shipping him with another character. While Ashbel's OC isn't Ichigo, I still felt it'd be too much of a copy to do that here. Now, I do have my own ideas on who Ichigo should be shipped with.
That said, I hopefully don't plan on returning to this story too soon unless discontinuing other stories which shouldn't happen. As such, if any of you have suggestions on who I should ship Ichigo with, I'm always open to hearing you out. Finally, elements of Fixing RWBY from Celtic Pheonix and RWBY Ice Queendom will be utalized to continue diverging this story from Ashbel's. Now, please enjoy this first chapter.
Bullhead
Atop a plateau, with two roads leading up to it, there sat a walled, desolate city with an abandoned, devastated research camp outside it. A bullhead bearing a black diamond landed in the middle of the research camp drawing the attention of its lone passenger.
They were a lean-built teen with peach skin, brown eyes, and spiky, orange hair. His attire consisted of a white shirt underneath a black blazer with matching pants. He also had a khyber knife currently sitting beside him.
Flashback
The teen stood within an office looking over a report while a short man with turquoise eyes and spiked, white hair sat at a desk before him. He wore a black kimono with a sleeveless captain's haori and had his own katana sheathed on his back.
"I see this is a report on some research camp." The teen commented as he closed the folder. "Now, tell me why you showed this to me Toshiro? Your division isn't typically the one to handle these, and I'm not part of any division; let alone 2."
"I'm showing you this because I saw it and felt this particular mission would be of interest to you, Ichigo." Toshiro responded. "The location of that report comes in from Vale. More specifically, Peak."
"Peak…" Ichigo's eyes widened. "Alright, you have my attention."
"The next rotation of researchers arrived at the camp and got settled in when they observed something that hasn't happened in ten years. The gates of Peak opened by themselves; however, something was on the other side. A Grimm."
"A Grimm was within Peak?" Ichigo questioned. "How would that be possible? Peak was built to keep Grimm out."
"We can't say for certain, and no one there could wrap there head around it." Toshiro replied. "Especially with the Grimm going on to massacre almost every researcher. The mission it to take this Grimm out, but once it's dealt with, you'd have the freedom to check things out."
"Are there any reports on how strong this Grimm is?" Ichigo asked.
"Nothing has come in because I had to act fast to secure this for you before Sui-Feng snatched it up." Toshiro stated before his expression softened. "Before you leave, I hope you find what you are looking for, Ichigo."
Present
Ichigo exited the bullhead with his sword sheathed on his back. The air craft left soon after, and he went about walking through the camp. He had the urge to approach the walls of Peak, even if they were closed now, but that'd have to wait until he dealt with the Grimm.
Speaking of this Grimm, Ichigo noticed the bloody remains of people and what was left of various Grimm. The bones of Ursa, Creeps, and Beowolf were plenty with stronger variations in the mix.
"Toshiro implied this Grimm I'm after slaughtered the team, so I'd assume any Hunters with them would be among those slain." Ichigo noted. "If that's the case, then how do you explain the remains of Grimm?"
Suddenly, something came crashing through a tent. Ichigo's gaze followed it, and he saw it was the body of an Ursa Major. Once it came to a stop, its flesh disintegrated leaving behind more bones. Ichigo turned his gaze to the direction the Grimm came from and spotted his target.
"That Grimm kills other Grimm?" Ichigo thought confused since that went against everything anyone understood of the Grimm let alone what the Shinigami knew. "Is that Grimm an Apathy?
Despite thinking that, Ichigo didn't believe it to be the case. While Apathy were the most common form of humanoid Grimm, they weren't known for strength like this Grimm seemed to be. While there were certainly albino Grimm out there, no Apathy has ever been white.
That's not even accounting for the build or oddities of this Grimm. Its body was muscular with a gaping hole in its chest. There was also a pair of horns that went up before curving to point forward. As for its face? It looked more like a bleach white mask.
This Grimm just stood there while staring at Ichigo and not moving an inch. Rather than wait for it to simply attack him, Ichigo unsheathed his blade. In that moment, before he could even blink, his target was in front of him ready to swing one of its arms into him.
That surprised Ichigo since that level of speed was well beyond a lot of Grimm he's encountered before. The monster swung, but he managed to bring his sword up in time to block the attack. The sheer strength behind it was enough to send Ichigo flying straight into a tree.
"ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR!" The creature roared.
Ichigo rose back to his feet knowing now he'd have to take this more seriously. He suddenly disappeared and reappeared behind the creature ready to cut it in half from the head down. Surprisingly, the creature was fast enough to hit the blade on the side deflecting it.
The creature then moved to slam its fist into Ichigo's gut, but he lunged back avoiding it. This instance caused the teen and creature to begin moving around the area at a rapid pace as they attempted to strike each other. Ichigo went about unwrapping bandaging around his handle.
He then began expertly spinning it before throwing the blade out. The Grimm avoided it, but at the last possible second, he managed to swing the flat part of the blade into the Grimm. The strength behind it managed to push the creature back.
Ichigo pulled back his blade. "You're pretty fast." He now brandished his blade with both hands. "Why don't we kick things up a notch?"
The creature roared before its right arm became a large, black blade. While surprising, this did nothing to change what Ichigo had to do. Both combatants moved quickly and began clashing faster around the area.
By moving faster, they couldn't block as effectively. This resulted in both taking various wounds to the body. Ichigo's right shoulder had a deep gash while blood dripped from his face. The creature was missing a left arm and had a deep wound in its chest.
Then, the creature did something that surprised Ichigo again. From between the horns, a red sphere of energy was being charged. The creature then fired the charged energy at the teen, but he was able to dodge it.
"You'll need to do better than…" Ichigo stopped as he heard an explosion behind him and turned to see that the mountain which had been there was now gone. "If that had hit me, I'd be gone!"
The Grimm took advantage of the moment to slam its arm into Ichigo's gut. He just managed to get his blade in the ground and hold on as he was sent flying. The blade dug along the ground as he moved, but it ultimately allowed Ichigo to recover.
That was good since the creature fired more energy blasts at the teen. Seeing them didn't mean he would be able to dodge given his current position. Ultimately, he went with slashing his blade up which fired off a crescent of energy that collided with the creature's creating an explosion.
Soon after, the two combatants were on the move again attacking one another and clanging metal against metal. Ichigo attempted to decapitate the Grimm, but it ducked under before attempting to remove Ichigo's left leg to make him easier to hit.
Ichigo managed to block the bladed arm and took the chance to lunge forward cutting clean through the creature's remaining arm at the shoulder. The Grimm stumbled back while roaring in pain, but Ichigo pressed the attack with a thrust through the neck.
He then gripped the blade and spun around removing a chunk of the neck before finishing the job on the rotation. The head was removed from the body which crumbled to the ground. Ichigo took a moment to collect himself before ultimately sheathing his sword.
"Mission Accomplished." Ichigo muttered to himself.
The remains of the creature dissolved; however, unlike with all other Grimm, only the creature's mask remained. While he'd have obviously collected the remains for study before, this was incentive enough to collect what remained now.
Ichigo picked up the mask. "Division 12 will want a look at this."
He then flipped the mask to look at the inside. Suddenly, it sprang up and latched itself to his face. He attempted to remove it off but was having no luck. Suddenly, Ichigo was racked with pain and screeched in agony.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Vale: 3 Days Later, Night…
A eighteen-year-old, lean-built teen with peach skin, brown eyes, and spiky, orange hair walked along the streets. His attire consisted of a white shirt underneath a black blazer with matching pants. A giant Katana was sheathed on his back. All he knew was that his first name was Ichigo.
"Maybe this city seems familiar…" Ichigo was clearly frustrated. "Gah, who am I kidding? I'm grasping at straws. Three days now, yet I remember nothing."
Suddenly, as he walked by a store called 'From Dust Till Dawn', a man in a black suit was sent crashing out the store by a girl, maybe 15 years old, wearing black and red. The teen looked inside and spotted a store clerk, more men in black suits, and one other individual.
He was a man wearing white, holding a cane, and smoking a cigar. The girl then took out a hunk of metal before turning it into a scythe. She swung it around a couple of times before stabbing it into the ground.
"This is something." Ichigo stared from within the store back at the girl. "I think I saw that guy on someone's scroll as I passed. Roman Torchwick, notorious Thief of Vale. If logic tracks, that means this was a robbery, and that girl seems to have stepped in to stop this."
Roman stared from his goons to the girl. "OK…" He nodded. "Get her."
The men would fight this girl, but they were currently on the lookout for anything they could use against her. They had just seen this little girl kick one of their own out a window. Because of this, the goons noticed the nearby onlooker. Even though his sword was large, he hadn't drawn it.
This led them to believe he'd be easier to apprehend. One of the goons raised a red blade and attempted to grab him. The girl looked on in shock and prepared to move before Ichigo swiftly kicked the oncoming goon. He then kicked the downed goon until he was unconscious.
"I'll admit, I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm at least certain Roman Torchwick isn't the kind of guy I'd trust." He walked over and joined the girl. "You don't exactly look like you need my help, but these guys involved me." The teen shrugged. "Mind if I lend a hand?"
The girl smiled. "No, I don't mind at all."
The pair then went on the attack. The girl stabbed her scythe into the ground and used it to lift herself up before spinning around it. This enabled her to kick the first thug who approached her in the face. She then removed her scythe from the ground and fired it off to hit another goon.
He was sent flying right into another goon. She fired again and brought the side down on one attacking goon before dodging another goon's gunfire. She got close enough to knock him into the air before slamming him down onto the ground.
Ichigo simply kept his large katana sheathed and used it to knock around the goons with ease. He noticed a couple of goons take aim at him with their gun, but he simply deflected their shots with his sheathed blade as he pushed forward.
When he reached the guys, he swung his sheathed blade into the first guy and kept going slamming him into the second. He stopped the momentum of his swing allowing both men to fly back. They hit the ground and skid along it before ending up at Roman's feet.
"I guess you really do get what your pay for." Roman commented drawing both the teens' attention. "Well, Red and Strawberry…"
The guy knew when Roman said 'Strawberry', he was referring to him. For a reason he couldn't identify, hearing that irritated him.
"…This has been an interesting experience." Roman continued as he dropped his cigar and crushed it underneath his cane. "Now, I must take my leave."
Ichigo noticed the thief raise his cane. "Red, you seem strong." The girl looked at her impromptu companion as the cane's crosshair came up. "Think you can get us both out of harm's way?"
"Yeah." The girl responded.
That was all he needed. When Roman fired off an explosive shell, Ichigo threw his large, sheathed blade at him below the arc of the shot. In that moment, the girl sped into the teen getting them both out of the way as the explosion hit where they'd been shattering the pavement.
Roman wasn't so lucky since he had been unprepared for someone to throw a weapon of that size. As such, it nailed him in the legs pushing the thief back and square into the wall of a nearby building. When they landed and looked in Roman's direction, he shattered like glass.
"A Semblance!" Ruby shouted.
"Is it his or an accomplice's?" The guy questioned.
They were both looking around. Ichigo thought he spotted something pink run around the corner of a nearby building, but that was quickly forgotten as both saw the thief ascending the roof of the building using a grappling hook.
The girl turned to the shop owner. "Mind if we go after him?"
The owner simply nodded and both teens were off. The girl used the recoil of her weapon to get to the roof while the guy simply managed to jump up after her.
Roof
"You won't get away, thief!" The girl called.
"Turn yourself in before I aim for the gut this time and ensure you take the impact." Ichigo added.
"Persistent." Roman muttered before a bullhead ascended and hovered to allow the man on. "End of the line, kids!"
He tossed out a red crystal of Dust intending to have it land at their feet and blow the load. Ichigo rushed forward, lept up, and snagged the crystal faster than Roman could have changed his plans to fire on it in that moment.
"Not sure how the store will take to us using this…" The guy let a little of his Aura flow into the crystal making it active. "…I think they'll understand in this instance."
He then chucked the crystal with all his might back at the thief who immediately scurred away from the door. Fortunately, his pilot, a girl with half pink and half brown hair, had closed the door from her seat. As a result, the Fire Dust exploded against the hull.
Streets of Vale
Two people were currently following a small black and white dog as he was on the trail of a scent. The first was a tall, fair-skinned young woman with lilac eyes and long, wavy bright golden hair. She wore a yellow crop top and a tan jacket.
The second was a man with a rather muscular build, shorter blond hair, and blue eyes. On his right arm is a tattoo of his emblem which resembles a heart. He wore brown cargo shorts with a dark brown belt, black shoes, a red bandana, and a brown leather vest over a tan dress shirt.
The dog ended up barking before running resulting in the man following. "She's close!"
"Ruby." The teen girl was a bit exasperated. "Where have you wondered off to?"
They arrived at the scene of the fight to see a crowd with some tending to the goons. Police were also there speaking with the shop owner.
"What's going on?" The guy questioned.
"What did she do this time?" The girl questioned.
At that moment, the explosion from the hurled fire dust went off drawing everyone's attention to the nearby roof.
Roof
Despite the Fire Dust being kept outside of it, the explosion had been a bit nasty damaging the exterior of the air craft. In that moment, a large, purple glyph appeared before the teens, and a blond woman in a purple cape moved ahead of them holding a wand/riding crop.
She waved her weapon and summoned several streaks of purple which she sent colliding with the air craft rocking it further. When compounded with the earlier damage, metal began to rain on the streets below.
"Just our luck. It's a Huntress, and the air craft's damaged." Roman rushed to the cockpit. "Neo, get us out of here!"
Neo nodded before flying the ship away. While The Huntress continued to fire on the air craft, it was still able to escape into the night. With it gone, the Huntress took to staring at the two teens.
"Oh, hi!" The girl gave the older female an awe-stricken look. "You're a real Huntress!"
Police Station: Interrogation Room
Both teens had been dragged off to the nearby police station where the Huntress quickly had them ushered into an interrogation room. The teenage girl was no longer smiling while Ichigo felt frustrated.
"Did you two not stop to think about how your actions put others in harm's way?" The Huntress asked. "On top of that, did either of you even think of your own safety? Were your Aura's strong enough to protect you?"
"Well, uh…" Ruby began hesitantly.
"If her circumstances are anything like mine, then she was dragged into this by those goons." The guy retorted irritated. "Also, you make it sound like we should have let them do whatever they wanted when we can do something about it instead."
Lobby
A middle-aged man with tousled silver hair and thin brown eyes entered the station. He wore an unzipped black suit over a dark green, buttoned vest and green shirt. He also had black shoes and long, dark-green pants. The officers on duty immediately saluted him.
"Hello, Professor Ozpin."
"Just stopping by for a quick visit." Ozpin stated as he walked on over to the two blonds who were waiting in the lobby and addressed the man. "Hello Tai."
"Professor?" Tai questioned surprised before standing. "Uhhh…"
"Don't worry." Ozpin assured. "I merely wish to speak with your daughter and that young man she was with for a little while."
He walked on while the teen girl stood up. "Is that who I think it is?"
"Yep." Tai smiled. "That's the head of Beacon Academy."
Interrogation Room
The Huntress just stared at Ichigo before addressing his earlier point. "If it were up to me, you two would be out of here with a pat on the back…" The girl smiled at this, but Ichigo knew there was more. "…and a slap on the wrist." She slapped her crop on the desk causing the girl to jump. "It's not up to me because someone else would like to meet you two."
The Huntress stepped aside to let Ozpin, now carrying a mug of coffee and a plate of cookies, come through. "Ruby Rose…you… have silver eyes."
He was leaning a little too close for the now named Ruby's comfort.
"Hey old man, I think you're a little too close." The teen declared.
Despite wanting to remain quiet, that level of disrespect at someone like Ozpin wouldn't stand with the Huntress. "Don't speak to…"
"It's fine Glynda." Ozpin held up a hand with a small smile. "Honestly, his way of addressing me is rather refreshing." Then his attention turned to the guy, and he leaned a little too close to him. "As for you, there's a strange Aura about you and your blade."
The man finally backed away to a reasonable distance from both. "Now, can both of you tell me how you are able to do this?"
Ozpin stepped aside to show a video recording of the battle at the Dust shop."
"Uh, Signal Academy." Ruby responded nervously.
Ozpin turned to the other teen, waiting for his answer, only to get something he wasn't expecting.
"I don't know." Ichigo admitted.
"You don't know?" Ozpin questioned with a raised eye brow.
"I have amnesia." Ichigo responded to the surprise of everyone.
"Amnesia!?" Ozpin questioned in shock. "Are you joking with me?"
"Wish I was." He replied honestly. "The farthest my memory goes is waking up in Vale, within an alleyway, three days ago. No idea where I am and only a first name to go on. Thing is, far as I know, I still got quite a bit of knowledge, yet no idea where it came from.
Don't even know if it's everything I should know. My only clues are my sword, my clothes, that first name and…" He pulled out the bleach white mask with a resemblance to a Human skull which sent chills down everyone, save the guy's, spine. "…this mask."
"A Grimm mask?" Ozpin questioned as he picked it up and inspected it. "Well, what is this name of yours you remember? Even if it's not a full name, perhaps the first will be enough to identify you."
"The only name I have is Ichigo." Ichigo responded.
"I see." Ozpin nodded as he gave the mask back to the boy who put it away. "Well then Ichigo, we'll get back to you later." He then turned back to Ruby. "As for you Miss Rose, they taught you how to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed at Signal?"
"Well, one teacher in particular." Ruby responded.
Ozpin just stared at her before pushing forward the plate of cookies. Ruby reached out uncertainly and grabbed one cookie before eating it in one bite. She was then quick to devour the entire plate in quick succession which was a little shocking to Ichigo.
"It's just that I've only seen this kind of skill in one person, a dusty old crow." Ozpin retorted.
Ruby tried to say something but had too many cookies in her mouth.
She swallowed all her food before speaking again. "Sorry. That's my uncle, Qrow. I would have been total garbage without him. Now, I'm all like whaaaaaaa wa cha."
Ruby intimidated karate moves.
"Uh huh." The man muttered.
Ozpin just took a sip of his coffee. "And what is an adorable girl such as yourself doing at a school designed to train warriors?"
"Well…I want to be a Huntress." Ruby answered excitedly.
"You want to slay monsters?" Ozpin clarified.
"Yeah." Ruby quickly answered. "I only have two more years left at Signal. Then, I'm going to apply for Beacon!" She began talking faster as her enthusiasm grew. "You see, my sister's starting there this year, and she's trying to become a Huntress.
I'm trying to become a Huntress because I want to help people. My parents always taught us to help others, so I thought I might as well make a career out of it!" she giggled. "I mean, the police are alright, but Huntsmen and Huntress are just more exciting and cooler, you know!?"
Ruby flips out at the last part while staring at the two adults with a wide, crazy smile.
"Weird, why do I feel like I know someone similar to this girl?" Ichigo thought confused. "Is that part of my missing memoires?"
"Do you know who I am?" Ozpin asked.
Ruby quickly answered. "You're Professor Ozpin, Headmaster at Beacon."
Ozpin smiled. "Hello."
"Nice to meet you." Ruby greeted.
"Do you want to go to my school?"
"More than anything."
Ozpin exchanged glances with Glynda, who grunted in disapproval, before turning back to Ruby. "Well, okay."
Ruby smiled as the headmaster turned to Ichigo. "What about you?"
"You want me to join your school?" Ichigo questioned.
"Indeed." Ozpin nodded. "You have nowhere to return, so Beacon could be a place where you stay while I attempt to help you recover your memories."
"You can help me reclaim my memories?" Ichigo questioned.
"I make no promise beyond giving you my word that I can certainly try." Ozpin responded.
"For the past three days, I have been just wondering the city, and he is right in that I can't remember anywhere I could go." Ichigo nodded. "Alright, I'll accept your invitation, old man."
"Excellent." Ozpin smiled. "In the meantime, since I assume you only have what you've told me, I'll arrange a hotel room for you in Vale. No doubt after everything you've been through, a good shower would do wonders among some extra changes of clothes. I'll also get you a scroll."
Ichigo nodded at that. He felt he needed a shower since first waking up and some extra versions of what he was wearing would do wonders. As for the scroll, that got him thinking why he didn't have one on him. It certainly would have made things easier if he could have called someone.
