Prologue

Some time after defeating the insidious duo of Rastapopoulos and Ramon de La Porta, Eric Tannenbaum, or Tann for short, was leading Tintin, Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus, Snowy, and the twin detectives, Thomson and Thompson, on a tour of Kong Island as part of interview Tintin was conducting. They were just returning to the base located inside a cave hidden by a waterfall, where Kong sat upon his throne. "That more or less concludes our tour of the Temple of Chiros", said Tann, "Are there any other questions?" "Blistering barnacles", said Captain Haddock, "People actually worshiped that monster?" "I think Chiros made it himself", said Tann, "Sort of an ego thing". "Well", said Thomson, "It would be childishly simple to make such a construction to fool people into thinking one was a god". "Simply childish, I agree", said Thompson. Snowy raced over to Kong's feet and barked, with Kong grunting happily at his tiny friend. This gave Tintin an idea. "I understand that you used to got to great lengths to keep Kong's existence a secret", he said, "What changed?" "It's a long story", said Tann. "We'd be very interested in hearing it", said Tintin. "Well, take a seat on the couch and I'll tell you all about", said Tann with a smile, "It all began a few years ago"…

Chapter 1: An Unusual Zoo

A helicopter flew across the sea and past the Statue of Liberty. "Man it's been a long time since I've seen New York City, or any city", said Jason Jenkins, a young man with a black, curtain haircut, tan vest with black shirt, and khakis. "Yeah, it's been easy street ever since we recovered all the Primal Stones", said Tann. "So, Tann, where exactly are we flying to?", asked Jason. "To be honest, I kind of zoned out when my dad told me about, but I think it's some kind of high-tech zoo", said Tann. The helicopter flew over the zoo, which was situated on an artificial island in the East River. It had a massive wall that surrounded the whole island, a tower with a glass enclosure on top, artificial fields of grass, a lake, and docks near the island entrance.

Tann landed the helicopter on the landing pad and stepped out with Jason. Just then, a portly man with slicked black hair and a brown suit with black tie walked over. "Good to see you again in our city, Mr. Tannenbaum", the man said. "Same here, Mr. Mayor", said Tann, "Uh, Jason, this is Bowen Mitchell, the Mayor of New York". "Good to meet you, sir", said Jason as he shook Mayor Mitchell's hand. "No, the pleasure's all mine", said Mayor Mitchell, "Any friend of Tann's is a friend of mine. I understand you two go a ways back". "We've been friends since we were kids", said Jason, "We both wanted to be archaeologists and see the world." "Well, we should probably get on stage", said Tann, "Can't keep the people waiting". "Indeed", said Mayor Mitchell, "Nice meeting you, Jason".

Just then, Jason's Cyber-Link started to beep. Jason ducked into a locker room and turned on hiss Cyber-Link to project a call from his grandmother, Dr. Jenkins, and Lua, the Kong Island shaman. "Hi, Grandma", said Jason, "Hey, Lua. What's up?" "Everything is fine over here", said Dr. Jenkins, "Any word from de La Porta or his cohorts?" "None", said Jason, "Ramon is still in a coma and about ninety percent of his guys are either in jail or bailed on him." "That's good news", said Lua, "We can't have him or anyone else trying to take the Primal Stones". "If they come, they'll have my big brother to deal with", said Jason, "Where is Kong, anyway?" "Out surveying his kingdom", said Dr. Jenkins. Just as she said this, a loud roar shook the cave.

Kong awoke and let out another roar before stretching his arms. Then, he walked out of the cave and into the tunnel that lead out to the waterfall, which fell into a lake presided over by a large stone carved to resemble Kong's face. With a start, Kong ran up the side of the waterfall and bounded into the valley! He slid down the hillside and stampeded into the jungle. He snapped thick branches like twigs and pulled one tree out by the roots! A baby mammoth trumpeted as Kong thundered into the grasslands. Raptors snarled and ran off as he ran over, passing by a lone triceratops. He smashed into the ruined acropolis, where his people used to walk. He stampeded through the ruins and ran onto the beach, soaking his knuckles and feet in the cool waters before snarling at some pteranodons that flew too close to him. Then, Kong turned back into the jungle, smashing past trees and running alongside an ancient wall meant to keep his ancestors out of the old acropolis. He leaped into the air, swinging off of cliffs and hauling himself up the side of a mountain. When he reached the top, Kong took a look down at the island that shared his name before letting out a tremendous roar and beating his chest! A lone T. Rex let out his own roar, but Kong paid no mind to the reptile, for on Kong Island, every mountain and every shore bowed to the will of the true king. Kong then sat down, content to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine on the island.

Back in New York, Mayor Mitchell was beginning to introduce Tann and another man with long, black hair with a matching mustache, blue suit with white tie, and a shark tooth lapel. "Ladies and gentlemen", said Mayor Mitchell, "It gives me great pleasure to introduce the man behind the project, Hunter Stag III!" Hunter took the the stage and cleared his throat. "Thank you, Mr. Mayor", he said, "and thank all of you. With your generous support and my finances, the Denham Memorial Zoo will be up and running earlier than planned. I always hoped to follow in the footsteps of a man like Carl Denham and show sights and sounds the likes of which no one has ever seen! Believe me, when this zoo opens, I will bring wonder back to this city. I will also be bringing in jobs and hopefully help the local economy recover." The crowd cheered at this proclamation, though Jason remained silent. "Anything to add, Mr. Tannenbaum?", asked Mayor Mitchell. Tann sputtered briefly before taking the mike and saying, "Just want to say that I hope everyone enjoys themselves and to please consider a charitable donation to the...uh, Dian Fossey Gorilla Foundation". "Will do, Mr. Tannenbaum", chuckled Mayor Mitchell.

As Tann walked off with Jason, Hunter Stag III scowled. Mayor Mitchell stepped beside him. "When you said earlier than planned, how soon of a time frame were you talking?", asked Mayor Mitchell. "By the end of the week, we should be open for business", said Hunter. "That soon?", asked the Mayor. "And not a day less", said Hunter, "Excuse me, Mr. Mayor, my client is here. I have to speak with her". "Have a nice day, Mr. Stag", said Mayor Mitchell.

Hunter walked down to the docks, where Tiger Lucy, a woman with shoulder length black hair, a black jacket, dark jeans, and a red shirt, was waiting. "I cannot wait to get out of the city for a while", said Hunter, "Anything is better than dealing with that fat imbecile and the Tannenbaum kid". "You think that's bad?", asked Tiger Lucy, "Try dating the guy." "The fool even plugged for a charity", muttered Hunter, "But enough talk, Tatiana. Are you certain that device will track them back to Kong Island?" "Sure as my name is Tiger Lucy, you'll have Kong and any other animal of your choice", growled Tiger Lucy, "Assuming that robot planted the tracker without anyone noticing". Just then, a large man wearing a fedora and trench-coat appeared. He took the items off to reveal himself as a bulky, gunmetal robot with red visors for eyes and a gun strapped to his leg. "Suffice to say, they won't know what hit 'em", said Hunter with a smirk. "And the money?", asked Tiger Lucy. "Transferred to your off-shore account as we speak", said Hunter, "I will have Kong as the ultimate trophy in this hunt".
