Hello everyone and welcome to one of those "person turns into a pokmon/animal" fanfics. (I think this is what you call a pokemon transformation fic) Anyone, I hope you enjoy this prologue and I appreciate you taking time out of your day/night to read this.
I will be transparent: this fic should not be way too long(the exact length depends). At the time of writing, I have most of the rest of it written and am editing it. It will mostly be pretty chill and more focused on character relations and family. It's intended as a shorter, simpler story, as it takes a lot of effort to write longer overarching narratives and I am already writing a few other stories like that.
Right, anyways, I hope you enjoy.
(Late at night, in Castelia City, Unova Region. On the Skyarrow bridge)
"After that kid!" A team plasma grunt, yelled, as he and another male grunt were giving pursuit of a child, a liepard close behind them. Both were clad in black uniforms looking like something out of a moot set black ops team, competing with a half mask and black hat covering their faces. They were currently in the middle of chasing a boy down the city's famous bridge. No one was currently on it right now, as it was very late at night, and the few cars were traveling on the road under the walkway
A preteen boy wearing a blue jacket, with light skin, brown hair and hazel eyes was bolting from them as quick as he could. In his hands was a young eevee he had just rescued from the pair. Running with all his strength, he desperately tried to get away from them.
"Don't let him escape!" One of them shouted. Both Plasma grunts were gaining on him. Bring fully grown, their running was a lot faster than the child's running. The liepard was gaining ground too, to say nothing of the honchcrow they had flying overhead. Zale was nearly tearing up and was terrified. He was growing tired but had to keep running, for fear of what these men would do to him…
However, it was not to be, as the liepard had finally gained on him enough. Looking down at the eevee in his arms, he made a choice. He relaxed his hold on it slightly, so it could jump down. "Run." He ordered it.
It jumped off, right as the feline Pokémon pinned the boy to the ground. The eevee growled but Zale shot it a look. "Just leave me! Get out of here, they are stronger!" he yelled. The eevee hesitated but seeing the enclosing bird pokemon, grunts, and the superior size of the liepard, the eevvee seemed to realize it could not do anything to help. It reluctantly gave into the boy's request, and booted off.
Neither of the plasma Pokémon made an attempt to follow the grunts caught up soon after.
"Whatever. One missing eevee is nothing to worry about." The grunt with red hair said.
"Let's just get this dealt with. Don't want to linger here."
The other, a dark-skinned man with dark hair said.
The red-haired grunt ordered the liepard up and grabbed the kid by his jacket forcefully. "Good job by the way liepard." He said, before looking at the kid again.
"Thought you could escape us again, eh? That we wouldn't notice your attempts to throw a wrench into our operations? Stupid kid, thinking you could take us alone. " he said.
The boy, Zale, looked at him. "You're horrible. Abusing Pokémon to your own ends. I had to do something." He said, stubbornly.
He looked at the kid. "Tried to play the hero. And look where that got you." He taunted.
The dark-skinned grunt groaned as the crow Pokémon landed on his shoulder. "Let's just get back to base. We can keep him captive until we are done here." He said.
The red-haired grunt raised a brow. "Keep him captive? And waste valuable time and money on his care? And for what? So he can just rat us out to the police later?" He pointed out.
The dark-skinned grunt shook his head. "He is just a kid. He can't do much to stop us on his own." He pinged out.
Zale silently agreed. He knew he was young to really do anything to stop them. . He wasn't one of those prodigy trainers who took on entire teams of criminals on their own, nor did he have an organization of people aiding him. He did not even have any Pokémon of his own; he was just a kid in over his. He was naive and foolish to think he could take on Team Plasma He had snuck into their warehouse to free some Pokémon they stole. He had freed a few before being found out. That eevee he saved was taken from the forest nearby, though to what ends the Team Plasma resurgent wanted it, he did not know. Not that it mattered now…
The red-haired grunt looked to the side of the bridge, and the ocean below it. He seemed to smile under that mask of his.
"Boss said to silence any witnesses." He stated.
Zale gasped as the grunt started dragging him over to the ledge by his hand. Zale tried to break free but could not break the adult's iron grip. The other grunt's eyes widened n horror but he made no move to stop it.
"Wait, please! Don't!" Zale begged. The red-haired grunted and ignored him.
"Hope you like swimming kid." He said as continued to drag Zale over to the railing of the bridge. The drop had to be several stories high, and the waves below looked rapid. No doubt the impact was going to hurt.
"Sorry to do this kid, but it's nothing personal. This is kind of your fault, though. You should have known not to mess with us." He said mockingly, as he grabbed the kid, who started kicking and squirming.
"Please don't! I'm begging you!" Zale pleaded. The plasma grunt ignored his pleas s he got him over the railing, kicking and screaming.
"Have a good swim, kid." He said, as he forced Zale from the bridge. Zale's eyes widened in fear. He threw him over boards watching as the child plummeted dozens of feet to the water below. Zale screamed as he fell.
Zale's life flashed before his eyes, as he fell from the top of the sky bridge. He plummeted for a few seconds until he finally hit the water below with a heavy impact, which likely hurt like mad. As the kid disappeared into the rapids, the two grunts looked in, each having a different expression. The one who dealt with it looked on with indifference, while the other showed discomfort.
"Guess that's that." The first said, turning away. His companion, how we, looked forlorn.
"This is messed up…" the second grunt said, shaken. "He was only a kid, we didn't have to kill him"
His companion shot him a questioning gaze.
"All the things we've done and tossing a boy off a bridge makes you uncomfortable?" He asked. "Not like we haven't done worse." He stated, nonchalantly.
"But I never harmed children. You got to draw a line somewhere; we could have just held him for a bit and let him go. He didn't pose much threat to us." He said, still uncomfortable.
The first grunt rolled his eyes. "It's called efficiently. No witnesses right? Alone he could not do much but he could have told the police. Besides, even if I don't like it, the kid was a vagrant anyway." He said dismissively. "No one was around to miss him, last I heard."
He turned around. "Now come on, we've got to get lost before someone notices," he said.
The other grunt reluctantly turned and the pair ran off. Though no one was out on the bridge walkway this late at night, they still had to run, in case any passing cars spotted them. Both grunts would have differing thoughts for the rest of the night. The only thing they could agree on, though, was that they got rid of a nuisance to their operations.
Nearby, in Pinwheel forest, near a river downstream from a part the ocean that gave way into the river, a certain mythical Pokémon was just finishing her 'rounds' as she put it. Namely, checking up on the area to ensure it was alright. Ensuring no threats were present and all that. She was just passing through, but it never hurt to check the areas regardless. The evil terrorist organizations that plagued various regions were always up to something. Just recently, Team Plasma had attacked. A passing eevee who was with her friends mentioned escaping a pair of Team Plasma grunts a bit ago. And that a boy had helped her, but she was forced to leave him behind to escape, at his insistence.
Scanning around for anyone, she sensed and saw nothing. So far, though, the coast was clear. Taking one last look around, Mew floated down toward the nearby river bank, thirsty. While she was physically small and would likely be swept away if she got too close to the water, she could just levitate it to her level.
However, as she got closer to the river, she saw something that shocked her.
A young boy, washed up from the river on the opposite side, on the river bank. Or rather, his half-dead body had. The raging rapids had likely thrashed him against the rocks and banks, injuring him badly. Surveying him, she saw how shallow his breathing was. He had no doubt been drowned. It took her all of a few seconds to piece together that this boy was the one the eevee mentioned to have saved her.
New looked over him in horror. He was so young. Why was he out here like this? She thought it had to be Team Plasma. A group of them had returned in recent years, operating out of the city. That eevee had mentioned a boy sacrificing himself to let her escape. This had to be the same child.
The psychic mythical took pity on the boy, seeing a child in a stare like this. Mew looked over his body. Wounded, barely breathing. Numerous bruises from being thrown against various rocks by a raging rapid.
She used her powers to 'scan' his mind and vitals. It only took her a few seconds to ascertain the damages.
"Half dead. Probably doesn't have more than half an hour to live." She realized. He has suffered internal damage from hitting any ledges or hard objects in the river before being swept here. His organs were damaged and his breathing was bad. CPR was not guaranteed to work or save him.
She sighed. She read his mind and saw in his memories what led him to this; what that criminal organization, Team Plasma, had done. Stealing pokemon for experiments or to enslave, it seemed.
"Monsters." She thought, with venom. She looked down at the half-dead child. He was barely eleven yet they had robbed him of his family and nearly taken his life. They had taken it in a sense.
She nearly cried as she looked at him. He was an innocent child, kind to those around him, including Pokémon. She saw so many good things he had done in his life before this. He deserved better than to have his life taken by some thugs. Mew, normally one to avoid human interaction, could not just leave an innocent child in a state like this. But there were problems…
She could not just let him die, but even with her healing abilities, it might not save him. Human antimony was less durable than that of a pokemon's and even if she tried a healing pulse, his lungs, and breathing would never recover fully. Likely not the rest of his body either. She could perhaps stabilize his condition but it was no guarantee by this point. He was too hurt to ensure that; she detected numerous fractures, broken bones, and internal wounds.
"Though maybe…" she seemed to ponder something. She looked back to the half-dead child on the river bank before her. She thought hard for only a minute, knowing she had little time left before he expired. His body and bones were broken enough that just moving him physically could potentially kill him, even. He had truly been hit hard in the rapids…
She made up her mind. "It's the only way. Better a second chance of sorts, than to die young…" she thought.
She quickly thought of the other problem: who would take care of him? He was only a child. Even young trainers had their Pokémon watching over and protecting them on their journey when they were not at home. It's not like most child Pokémon trainers didn't return home to their parents once the quest was done. Heck, they could go home anytime they felt like returning anyways. Trainers could go home whenever but this kid had no one to return to, sensed. And he would need a caretaker to watch him and help him adapt to his new life. Then a certain place crossed her mind…
She very quickly teleported herself and the child away, her mind made up.
Zale did not know what was going on. All he could see was darkness. Nothing. Was he even awake? He certainly could not recall waking up after being thrown off a bridge.
"Child… there is little time to explain. I must act quickly…" a voice called to him, mentally..
Zale looked up. "What? Act quickly why?" He inquired.
"You are hurt, dying… I only have a short time. I only have one way to save you… I must ask are you willing to give up being human for a second chance at life?"
Zale was baffled. "What? I don't understand. What kind of question is that?" He asked.
The voice grew urgent. "I only have minutes left. I cannot explain it all now, but you are dying. I can save you, but you will no longer be human… are you willing to assume a new form if it means I can save your life?" It asked, bluntly.
Zale's memories of floating down the river and drowning came back. He was dying? Maybe he should not be surprised but it was all so shocking and a lot to take in. He quickly thought about it. He had nothing left as a human; no family, no home. He did not even have any Pokémon partners of his own anyways, his faking never really did gif a long time. He had nothing tying him down but he wanted to live. He was only 11, he did not want to die.
"Yes, please. I want to live." He said, pleasingly.
The voice seemed content. "Very well then… I will see to if you are safe." It said. He started losing 'focus' as he and his mind felt more numb by the second.
".What… will… happen… now…?" He asked.
"You will see when you wake up. I promise, I will leave you in capable hands, err, paws. It will make sense soon…"
With that, his consciousness faded.
It was done. The boy made his choice. Mew had wasted little time, acting quickly to save his life. She had withdrawn to a remote location to transform the child. Having teleported to a high mountain peak, she had begun the process. The process has taken much power, as transforming another being was rather difficult and dangerous if interrupted. Luckily, it worked. The boy, now an eevee, was peacefully levitating to Mew's side, held up by Mew's telekinesis. Interestingly, he was a shiny eevee, to Mew's surprise. Shiniess was just a rare condition some pokemon were born with. Mew guessed it was just by chance that he ended up like this from the transformation process; her powers were weird at times. Maybe after reading his thoughts, she subconsciously thought that he might like this since silver was apparently a favorite color of his.
Regardless, the child was asleep currently and would be for a few days most likely. Transforming and recovering from a near-death experience took its toll on one's body, especially a child's. Letting the child rest, Mew stopped and thought for a moment. The child needed someone to look out for him, and she personally was not much of a mother. She was often too beleaguered by her duties and travels to even entertain the thought of looking after a child. This kid needed somewhere safe. And luckily, Mew thought of just the place; a certain nature preserve far outside of the region. With any luck, it might prove a safe new home for the boy…"
