"Peter!?"
Said Gwen as she hung just below the cogs of the Oscorp Power Grid clock tower.
"Hold on!" said Spider-Man. he felt the resistance of his foot wedged between the cogs starting to buckle. His Spidey Sense gave off a sharp warning, telling him he had to make a choice. He could either save Gwen, the woman he loved, or subdue his now almost unrecognizable friend Harry.
Without hesitation, Spider-Man yanked at the webline holding Gwen, reducing their distance for a moment. He simultaneously emptied his left-hand webshooters entire round of web fluid into Harry's face, immobilizing him. Spiderman moved and fell backward positioning him self upside down on the large cog he and Harry were previously standing on.
As the cogs resumed their rhythmic movements the webline holding Gwen from falling snaped. As she let out a quiet gasp as she felt her heart stop and her stomach sinking start as she was in a free fall, as the webline broke, Spider-Man shot himself off the cog with such force that the entire mechanical system fell apart from its holdings, sending them all tumbling down the deep shaft of the clock tower.
With his arms tucked to his sides and his body as straight as possible, Spiderman speeded towards Gwen as she so desperately stared into his eyes hoping he would save her. As he overtook pieces of debris and metal constantly decreasing the distance between himself and Gwen thanks to his initial boost in speed, he reached his arms out just centimeters away from her waist desperately trying to get a hold of her.
He knew the physics; he knew that he wouldn't be able to get to her in time like this. He looked beyond her searching for any other solutions and there he saw it, a metal support arm extending from the side of the inner walls of the clock tower.
He shot a webline with his right webshooter at the arm. Once the line was secure, he yanked on it pulling him self slightly forward removing any displacement between him and Gwen. He wrapped his left arm around her upper body and his legs around her hips. His right arm pulled and cracked as it absorbed the shock of the tension in the webline. Barely missing the falling debris as they steered clear of the ground. Spiderman flipped on his back as they approached the side wall protecting Gwen from the impact as best he could, as the remaining debris struck the ground just a few meters from them creating a deafening uproar and causing the whole tower to shake.
Winded from the impact, Spider-Man coughed as he caught his breath as his heart rate slowed with the assumption that he saved his Gwen.
As he looked down at her in his arms, seeing her closed eyes and arms dangling, His heartbeat increased once again.
"Hey" said Spider-Man.
"Gwen?".
She was unresponsive.
Spiderman lowered the webline until his feet touched the ground carrying Gwen with him. He began to cough as the unsettled dust from the debris was getting into his mask. He found the emergency exit and took a few steps into the pouring rain as he went down to his knees gently placing Gwen's body above his lap.
"Hey Gwen" he said with his voice quivering. He took off his gloves with haste throwing them aside and finally taking off his mask so he can see clearly. He moved his hand along the smooth skin of her cold cheek moving her soft blonde hair out of her face as tears started to fill his eyes, he raised his hand over her chest reluctant to place it over where her heart would be. He closed his eyes and pressed his hand over her chest. His throat tightened, and his stomach clutched as a silent ambience filled his ears.
"Stay with me... you stay with me" he cried.
He waited for what felt like hours for a sign, any sign that would mean she was ok. And then he felt it.
Badum
A heartbeat, one he knew by heart. He waited once more.
...Badum
And once more felt another.
Peter let out a great sign of relief. He could breathe again feeling a profound weight being lifted off his chest.
"I saved you" he cried tears of joy as he hugged her face into his holding her tight as he never wanted to let her go again.
Police sirens could be heard approaching. Peter gently placed Gwen back on his lap, quickly slicked his hair back and put on his soaking wet mask. He stood to his feet and picked Gwen up in his arms holding her close.
4 squad cars pulled up to the now demolished power plant. Spider-Man limped towards them carrying Gwen in his arms.
"She aright?", asked the policemen shielded by the driver side door of the squad car closest to them.
"Yes, but she might be hurt. Could you take her to the hospital... Please", he said in a defeated voice.
"Get her in", said the policeman now holding the driver side rear door open.
"Thank you".
He gently placed Gwen into the back seat.
The officer nodded and got into the driver seat just before driving off.
"Hey, isn't that one of our units?" one of the officers said, pointing to the totaled police car Gwen had borrowed prior.
All the officers looked back to where Spiderman had been standing, only to find that he had vanished into the darkness of the night.
