At age 17 Elizabeth is forced to marry Mr Collins.

He is an idiot and encouraged by Mrs Bennet to be firm with Elizabeth, uses corporal punishment to curb her impertinent ways.

Less than a year later, Elizabeth gives birth to a son.

Soon afterwards her father dies, and she and Collins go to Longbourn.

With Collins inheriting Longbourn, the entail is at an end. He makes a will leaving the estate to his son and appointing Elizabeth as guardian.

The next evening, after beating Elizabeth yet again, he goes to bed and dies in his sleep. (probably a heart attack)

After his funeral, Mrs Bennet insists that Elizabeth step aside as mistress of the estate. Elizabeth throws Mrs Bennet out of the house, but allows her sisters to remain, on the understanding that they will obey her rules.

Elizabeth sends the carriage to pick up her son who had remained at the parsonage with his nurse. The carriage returns with the boy's body – he died of a fever. Darcy, whom Elizabeth had met once immediately after the wedding, made the arrangements and sends a letter of condolence.

Elizabeth becomes the owner of Longbourn.

She arranges a governess for the girls, Jane acting as mistress of the estate while Elizabeth becomes the Master of Longbourn.

Mr Gardiner informs Elizabeth that Mr Bennet had put aside 200 pounds each year for dowries which have grown to 10K.

Elizabeth dislikes names Collins and Bennet and adopts Mrs Gardiner's maiden name 'Brooks'.

Mrs B (furious with E) rents a cottage in Meryton with the interest from her jointure.

Time passes and Elizabeth learns to manage Longbourn and makes improvements.

Bingley rents Netherfield and Darcy arrives. Knowing Elizabeth is next door, he calls on her.

At the assembly he introduces his party to Elizabeth and her family.

Everyone gets on well except Caroline (what a surprise)

Colonel Fitzwilliam arrives and takes an interest in Mrs Margaret Taylor, the governess.

Darcy is interested in Elizabeth, but despite her wealth has hesitations because of her lack of connections, but they have become good friends.

He does not realise that Elizabeth has no interest in marriage.

Caroline is put out by that friendship and decides to compromise Darcy, especially as she thinks she is pregnant – by Wickham.

It backfires and Bingley takes her back to London to find Wickham and force him to marry Caroline. Darcy goes along to help find Wickham.

Wickham on the other hand has discovered that he has fallen in love with the wonderfully mercenary Caroline, and while she was away, he kept winning at gambling, including an estate which comes with a title.

Now that he has money and a title, Caroline is willing to marry Wickham.
