Sorry for this taking longer than normal to update, I just got back form Cyprus two days ago, and I got my AS results yesterday, so it's all been a little hectic!

Chapter Four (Damon's POV):

"It's okay now little brother, just lie down."

Damon gently patted Stefan's left shoulder as he lay on his back and stared up at the ceiling with glassy eyes.

"Stefan...?"

Damon whipped round and saw Elena approaching the bed. He put an end to that by flitting in front of her.

"I don't think so."

"Damon, let me through."

"You're not going anywhere near him. You know what he's going to be feeling? Absolute pain. Not just from the bite, but in his throat too. No matter how much blood he fed from you, this bite is wasting his energy faster than a vampire can run, so I suggest you don't come closer."

"But - "

"Do you want Stefan to be in more pain than he already is?"

"Of course not."

Both human and vampire glared at each other until a weak voice behind Damon spoke up.

"Let her come through, Damon."

Damon looked round disapprovingly.

"Brother, you might not be able to handle it..."

"Oh I think I can handle it for a few seconds, Damon, trust me. Please?"

Who was he to deny his brother what may be his final wishes?

"Whatever you want bro, just make it quick."

Elena instantly rushed to Stefan's side and against all his instincts, Damon decided to give them some privacy.

Damon was in the hallway when Elena came out of his brother's room, tears streaming down her face.

"I can't believe this is really happening. Why would Jules do this to him?!"

"To strike at me. It was supposed to have been me, Elena. And now that bitch is still out there..."

"No. Whatever happens to Stefan, you are not going after her for revenge."

"'Whatever happens'? Stefan's going to die Elena, didn't you just say your last goodbyes?"

"He might not, Damon! Bonnie is looking for a cure, put your trust in her!"

"You're asking me to put my faith in a semi-confident witch, who's wanted me dead numerous times. Fantastic. SHe'll probably be out to get me once Stefan dies because it was all my fault. 'Dropping innocent blood and all'..."

"Stefan is not going to die! Just - "

A scream from inside Stefan's room stopped Elena from continuing and she was about to re-enter when Damon pushed her aside and raced in.

He would do whatever it took to prevent Stefan being in more pain than he already was.

And that included killing his brother himself.
