Extended with a bit of a happier ending. Tell me if this breaks the mood, though. I'll change it back.
When the darkness gave way to light, you find yourself staring up at a white ceiling. It was really bright too, and you reflexively close your eyes to keep from being blinded. You hear the steady beeping of a heart monitor, and you realize that you're in a hospital. But how? you ask yourself. Why am I...? You spot movement out the corner of your eye and you turn your head, then freeze when you're met with an extraordinary sight:
Sleeping, and barely fitting, in one of the guest chairs, was a large, female anthro wolf. She wore a rather tight beige turtleneck sweater and blue denim jeans that accented her curvy figure, and was resting her head in one of her hands propped on the armrest. She bore a startling resemblance to your friend from another world, but you figured it was nothing but a coincidence...
Right?
But the fur pattern, and the color of her coat, it made you wonder if-
The sound of something dropping to the floor with a loud clatter startled you and made the slumbering wolfess jump in her seat. The two of you look to see who had made the ruckus, only to find a dark-skinned woman dressed in blue-green hospital scrubs staring at you in wide-eyed shock. She quickly apologized and dashed out of the room, calling for a doctor.
"Anon?"
That voice, you think in disbelief as you turn to the wolfess, who was now face-to-face with you with those strikingly familiar blue eyes. Could it be?
"Svenja?" Your voice was barely above a croak, and you felt a soreness in your throat as you struggled to speak. But the wolfess stopped you from going any further with a finger to your lips as she nodded with a teary smile.
"Yes," she said, choking back a sob before kissing your cheek and wrapping you in a warm hug. Tears brimmed up again and you return the hug, pulling the curvy wolfess to you as tightly as you can, as if she might get away from you again. But you weren't going to let that happen.
Never again.
Svenja laughed softly, a heavenly sound to your ears, as she pulled back slightly and stared into your eyes with her blue ones. She had tears of her own streaming down her furry cheeks as she smiled at you. "Told you we'd meet again, my little adventurer."
