Ch.55: Analysis
To be honest, I had not been in that café in a while. The last time had been when Aria and I had broken up. Pinkie skipped on ahead of us, humming some pop song she had heard. For her part, Twilight was silent, as was Sunset. Of course, Sunset knew the truth of the note. Twilight had told her around Christmas. We will speak of that soon, my children.
Anyways, as the rest went on into the café, I stopped for a moment and closed my eyes. So much had happened in the previous seven months that it was overwhelming to think about. As I opened my eyes a few moments later, a waved as Sonata and Juniper passed by, jogging gear on them.
Stepping inside, the sweet mixture of coffee and smoothie hit my nose. I breathed it in. At the table the seven had gathered at, Rainbow Dash pulled out her phone, intending to film me. This was stopped by a glare from Applejack.
"Ah could keep yah in me overnight" she threatened.
Not hearing this, I sat down at the table innocently. My position was next to Fluttershy, with the seating shaped like a half-moon.
Wordlessly, I pulled the note out of my pocket. I had not opened it since the previous day. Twilight smiled as I handed her the note.
"It really is beautiful writing" Fluttershy murmured, looking over her shoulder.
"Cursive too" Rarity said. "Which is taught in this district in 4th grade. So, whomever wrote it has not lost the skill."
Thinking about it, this eliminated most of the group- with the exceptions of Applejack and Twilight. Their writing was cursive usually, with me having to get it deciphered usually. Even now, cursive is not my strong suit.
Twilight then snapped her fingers. "This ink is awfully expensive too. Whoever wrote it has access to some incredible quality."
Applejack went to say something, only to be stopped shortly by Pinkie.
"Maybe it was you, Applejack?" she said, staring at the country girl. "You and David seem awfully chummy sometimes."
"To be fair" Rarity said, as the waitress came over for our orders, "He has had great moments with us all. The ink has me thinking, however. There are few ladies within our school that could have access. I do wonder- and pardon if my theory is silly- if its Diamond Tierra with some sort of simple crush?"
"Speaking of which" Rainbow said thoughtfully, "Scoots said Filthy really likes David. Diamond has her over to play video games" she explained, us all staring at her surprised at the information.
"I admit he surprised me" I smiled, my eyes turning to the waitress now.
Getting the hint, the girls and I ordered our drinks.
"I don't think it was Diamond Tierra" Sunset said after the waitress left. "She had such a problem with Scootaloo and David being together maybe that she had that news posted."
"It would be hypocritical" I agreed. "But I don't think the person that wrote the note necessarily had to know cursive. Maybe the person that wrote it was asked to by someone else."
"Do you have any theories?" Twilight asked me.
"I do" I told her, pulling out my list from the day before. The girls examined it. Sunset snickered.
"Yeah, Discord would do that."
"It wasn't me" Rainbow said firmly. "I had fun with you, but I don't do notes like that. Too sappy!"
"Berry and he don't even hold close to the same schedule" Applejack said. "Not saying it couldn't be her, just something to consider."
"May I make a suggestion?" a voice asked. We turned to see the Dazzling's standing there. Or more specifically, Aria.
Getting a pit in my stomach, I immediately excused myself for the bathroom.
Aria sighed, taking my seat. "I wish it had been me. It's tearing me apart that I broke up with him. I mean, we all know who wrote that note, but...fuck! I miss him" she said. Without another word, she stood up, shuffling away to the counter. I frowned, coming out of the bathroom.
There at the table, Twilight frowned, staring at her shake. How could this inevitable situation be resolved?
Before that though, came a belly date with Adagio.
