Chapter Two

Sam glanced over at Mercedes as they pulled into his parent's home, the place was far from modest and anyone who saw it knew exactly how Sam grew up. The house sat on ten acres of land, which allowed for the renovations and was the perfect venue for his brother's wedding.

After enjoying themselves in Mercedes shower, and again in Sam's, he still wasn't sure who started that one, they were on the road and taking the three hour drive to Upstate New York. During that time he learned more about her and she him, and surprisingly the dogs all seemed to like each other.

If anyone looked at them, they would swear he and Mercedes hadn't literally just met.

The moment he pulled into the driveway his family rushed out. Sam sighed looking over to her. "It's showtime. Wait right here."

Mercedes smoothed down her dress and hair as she waited for Sam to open her door. Stepping out of his car she smiled as his family stepped closer.

"Hey guys, this is Mercedes. Mercedes, this is my family. Those are my parents Dwight and Mary Evans. My baby sister Stacey and her husband Artie, my cousin Quinn and her husband Puck. Stevie's best friend Jake and his wife Marley, Jake is Puck's brother. And my brother Stevie and his future bride Jane."

"It's a pleasure to meet you all." Mercedes smiled. Everyone took her hand and greeted her as Stevie side eyed Sam.

"Nope." Stevie finally said.

Sam sighed. "What's your problem Stevie?"

"Bull shit! I call bullshit!"

"Steven! Watch your language." Mary warned.

"Sorry Mom, but do you see her? Do you see this woman Sam brought up here? No offense, but how did Mr. Recluse himself land someone as…" he paused. "Jane…can you…"

Jane smirked, shaking her head. "Smoking Hot is the word you are looking for, baby."

"Thank you, Smoking hot like her. I call bull sh-"

Mercedes snickered before wrapping her arm around Sam's neck and kissing him deeply. "I like that about him, he's not flashy but he lets go when it counts." She said trying to hold back her laugh when he shot her a look.

Artie raised an eyebrow. "What in the damn hell, Sam doesn't do PDA…"

Mercedes smiled. "He doesn't but sometimes he lets me get away with it."

Dwight smiled. "A good woman will do that for you."

Sam shifted slightly. "Yes, well that's done… we're here and need to drop our dogs off, they can't stay at the hotel with us."

Mary moved, looping her arm with Mercedes. "Yea, no you guys are staying here. You can stay in Sammy's old room. So Mercedes tell me all about you."

"Mom, I told you that we were staying at the hotel." Sam said.

"And I canceled your reservation. We had some extra guests coming in and they really could use the room, you and Mercedes can stay here, besides you and the guys need to finish setting up the chairs."

Mercedes untangled herself from Mary and looked at Sam, then back at his mother. "Mrs. Evans, with all due respect, that wasn't okay, Sam and I had plans and to cancel without a word was wrong. Sam is an adult, and the choice really should have been his if he wanted to give up our rooms or not."

Eleven eyes shot to Mary as she turned to Mercedes.

"Excuse me?"

"As I stated I don't mean to offend, but I stand by my statement." Mercedes said as everyone around her grew silent.

Sam moved to Mercedes. "Mercedes it's not-"

"No Sam, she's right. I am sorry I should've checked with you before canceling your rooms. I can try to get them back for you, and we can have your Aunt and Uncle take your room."

Sam shook his head. "That won't be necessary, I appreciate the apology."

Mercedes looked at Sam, narrowing her eyes at him. "We would appreciate it if you could get our room back."

Mary looked at them before sighing. "I will see that it's done." She said before walking inside to get her phone. Mercedes smiled at everyone before pulling Sam away from them.

"We agreed on separate rooms." She whispered.

Sam looked at her like she was crazy. "We literally had sex hours ago and we've only known each other for ten hours. I'm sure sharing a bed wouldn't be an issue."

Mercedes sighed. "You want to share a room… in your parents' house after what we did? Think about it Sam."

Sam smiled. "Are you saying that you want it to happen again?"

She rolled her eyes. "As fun as it would be to have sex in your old room, I'd much rather not have your family hearing you fuck me… though a part of me wonders if you'd be into that." She teased.

Sam eyed his brother watching them, and looked back at Mercedes. "I won't say that, now that you brought it up I would be opposed to taking you there. But don't worry about being heard, my room is on the opposite side of my parents."

She shifted, biting her lip. "Well you can still make that happen before we go back to the hotel… I'm always down for a little fun." She quipped, moving in close and nipping at his lips. Sam groaned, wrapping his hand around just under her right breast and running his thumb along her nipple.

He pulled her closer, smirking. "You and your PDA." He said and she smiled before wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him.

"He's letting her kiss him again… in public." Artie said to Stevie who shook his head.

"Where in the actual hell did he find this woman? I haven't seen him smile like that… ever." Stevie replied. "She's too fine… it has to be fake." He added walking over to where they were standing with Artie close behind.

Mercedes let out a soft laugh before pulling away. "We should definitely get out of here." She said.

"Leaving so soon?" Stevie asked, looking at his brother suspiciously. "I still don't see how you managed to get her…"

Sam rolled his eyes. "We've been saying the same thing about you and Jane."

Artie chuckled. "Well he has a point there."

"Did he pay you to play along with this?" Stevie flat out asked and Mercedes shot him a confused look.

"Wait, there could've been money involved? Damn-it and here I thought his charm and sexiness was enough." She teased, making Sam and Artie laugh.

"Okay, now that that little disagreement is handled and Sam and his guest have their room back, why don't we go enjoy this beautiful day by the pool!" Mary announced and they all looked at her before Stevie shot his brother a knowing look.

Mercedes looked at them both before clearing her throat. "Good thing I packed my swimsuit."

'Yeah, I'll show you where you can get changed." Jane offered and Mercedes smiled before walking to the car to grab her bag and then followed Jane into the house.

Stevie waited until they were fully inside before looking back at his brother. "How much did you pay her?"

Sam smirked. "Jealous?" He asked unbuttoning his shirt and walking towards the back.

"No, I'm not jealous… I have Jane. Remember? That's the reason we're all here but I know she didn't just fall for stick in the ass Sam."

Sam shrugged. "Maybe she likes the stick in my ass." He replied, looking out at the backyard, seeing dozens of people walking around putting up tents and getting some of the bigger decorations put into place. "I see she's putting on quite the show…"

Stevie smiled. "It's what my baby wants."

"Yeah but is it what you want?"

"Sure, I get to marry my girl and it's not like this isn't what we expected… it's mom." Stevie replied, walking down the pathway to the pool and sighing. "Plus the whole family's coming so it'll be fun."

Sam followed him, shaking his head. "I thought it was just immediate family?" He asked, sitting down on a lounge.

"Nope, mom invited everyone plus Jane has a big family too so it's going to be close to four hundred people here. Why do you think we came out sooner? It's going to be pure chaos."

"Clearly… this can't be what you really want. All those people in your faces… it's just an event."

Stevie shot his brother a look. "Me marrying the love of my life isn't just some event, dude. I want to celebrate this with my family and you could at least act like you care enough to enjoy this for me." He snapped.

"I'm here aren't I? I showed up so that should tell you I care." Sam snapped back.

Stevie shook his head. "If you are just gonna sit here and be Mr. Doom and gloom as always, why come? Sam I love you, but you are so tightly wound that I sometimes feel more like a burden then your brother. If you don't want to be here, leave, but if you are going to stay then loosen up."

Sam was about to speak when the ladies returned to the pool. His eyes immediately found Mercedes. Her hair fell over her shoulders in waves, and she was wearing a one piece wonder woman swimsuit with a low v-cut, that clung to her, causing every male's gaze to fall on her.

As the woman sat down a few of the workers catcalled them and Mercedes snorted, shaking her head.

"This is just what I needed, a time to relax and not have to worry about work."

Stacey sat next to her looking over to her brothers and the rest of the guys. "How did you do it Mercedes?"

"Do what?" She asked, laying back in the chair.

"My brother is a lot of things, hard headed, stubborn and set in his ways comes to mind. And he barely hugs me or my parents, and yet he is okay with all the things you are doing? I am just curious because no other woman has been able to break past his walls."

Mercedes opened her eyes and looked over to Sam. "He's not that bad, and as for how I did it, I didn't really do anything. I am a naturally affectionate person. Touch is my love language so I think it's just him humoring me?"

Stacey sighed. "My brother doesn't do humor, hell I haven't seen him smile in years and I can't tell you what his laugh sounds like." She replied and Mercedes looked at her sadly.

"Well then we should change that." She said getting up and walking over to Sam.

"I need to talk to you." Mercedes said, feeling tension around Sam and his brother. "Excuse us." She grabbed his hand and walked him away from his brother, right along the edge of the pool.

Sam looked her over. "You look good in that. What's up?"

She blushed before smiling. "Well it's come to my attention that your siblings don't think you're that fun." She said, taking a step forward with a sly smile.

He shrugged. "They're entitled to their opinions." Mercedes nodded before invading his personal space. "What are you doing? I think we've done enough PDA for-"

Mercedes smiled before pushing him into the pool and laughed loudly while everyone else looked stunned that she had actually pushed him in. They all waited for Sam to resurface anxiously before he sprung up out of the water and grabbed Mercedes, pulling her into the water with him as he laughed.

"Holy shit…" Stacey said looking over at Stevie who was equally shocked. Mary and Dwight came down the pathway before stopping and looking at Mercedes and Sam splashing and playing in the pool.

"What the hell has gotten into that boy?"

Mary shook her head. "You mean who…" She said going to join the other ladies who were still looking at them. She sat down next to Stacey with a partial smile. "Seems she brings out the best in him…"

Stacey looked at her mother nodding. "Crazy thing, she did it because I said I didn't remember his laugh… he let his guard down with her."

"Yeah… I remember meeting him all those years ago, he was nothing like this." Jane chimed in and Mary sighed.

"Flings tend to do that besides he laughs plenty." She replied.

Stacey huffed. "Wow, I thought you of all people would be excited to see him happy."

Jane nodded. "You would think… I'm going to join them, if Sam's being playful I want to be able to tell my future kids I knew their uncle when he laughed." She teased before running over and jumping into the pool.

"Me too, you may not like her but I do… she's good for him." Stacey said, smiling before running over while screaming and jumping in as well.

Mary watched as Sam splashed Mercedes, Jane and Stacey, then he called for help when they tripled teamed him. Artie, and Stevie jumped in laughing with them.

Dwight walked over to his wife and they watched the group play Chicken in the water. "Well would you look at that, I can't remember the last time I heard that kind of laughter."

"Sam laughs, why does everyone act like it's never happened?" Mary said, throwing her hands up.

"Ha! Sam does a lot of things but laughing isn't one of them." Quinn said from behind them. She had Beth on her hip, dressed to get into the pool.

"Wait, is that her?" Puck asked and Mary nodded.

"Yep, charming isn't she?"

Quinn rolled her eyes. "Get over it auntie, Sam found someone else to make him laugh. Be happy." She said before walking over to let Beth put her feet into the pool.

"I am happy…" Mary muttered under her breath.

Welp seems Mercedes is exactly what Sam needs and more but Mary on the other hand... she might be an issue! Until next time XOXO!
