Asia
Asia awoke early the next morning to find Koneko sleeping next to her. She made small little purring noises as her chest rose and fell. She gently kissed Koneko's cheek, to not wake her. She rose and stretched, blood filling her stiff muscles. She quickly put on her school uniform and set Koneko's aside, and then went downstairs. Nobody was awake yet, as usual, and she rolled up the sleeves of her white uniform shirt and went about her normal routine of preparing breakfast for everyone. The house did have familiars that could have done it for her, but it was one of Asia's favorite ways of repaying the debt she owed to all of them, both for rescuing her from the church and for being the only friends she'd ever known. As the smell of cooking eggs filled the kitchen and the familiar ding of the rice cooker sounded, her heart soared. She couldn't remember the last time she'd been this happy.
When everything was ready, Asia made plates and handed them out to each member of the Occult Research Club as they appeared. Kiba was the first, since he always insisted on being early, then Akeno and Xenovia. Rias was next, even though she had yet to even dress, and Gasper followed after her as though he were her shadow. Everyone began to eat, except for Gasper, who looked towards Asia.
"Where's Koneko?" Asia didn't know, but she knew how grumpy Koneko could be in the morning.
"I'm sure she'll be down soon, Gasper," she replied. Gasper nodded and looked down at his plate, staring at the food as though it were about to jump off the plate and attack him. Asia did not like this.
"Gasper. Eat your breakfast." She applied just the slightest maternal tone to her voice, and it was immediately effective. Gasper meekly nodded and put the tiniest bite of food possible into his mouth. Asia wasn't satisfied with this, but she let it go and sat down to eat her breakfast.
Just as she was bringing the first bite to her mouth, Kiba shot out of his chair, his Balance Breaker materializing in his hand.
"Something's wrong." Asia could hear a note of terror in his voice. "Can't you all feel it?" Asia didn't sense anything.
At the head of the table, Rias stood and opened her mouth, but Asia had no idea whether it was to agree with or rebuke Kiba, but she never found out, because before the club president could say anything, the bay window behind her dissolved into a thousand luminous shards of light as a dark figure hurtled directly at her.
Koneko
Koneko awoke alone in Asia's room. Mornings are the worst, she thought, only wanting to fall back asleep. She eventually sleepily clambered out of bed, yawned, and stretched. I wish I'd woken up next to Asia. She began to dress slowly, ignoring the siren's call of Asia's bed.
A loud crash and the sound of broken glass resounded throughout the house. Koneko nearly jumped out of her skin, but what she heard next caused icy shards of panic to rip through her entire being. She heard Asia scream in terror, and her body moved before she could even think about it. She flew downstairs in time to see Asia clutched in the arms of her sister, her nails digging into her throat.
Koneko froze. Her vision constricted wildly into small pinpricks of light. Her tail and ears appeared instantly, and she snarled at her sister.
"Let her go, or I'll kill you." Her voice scared her. It was much lower than normal and practically a hiss. Kuroka found this absolutely hilarious.
"You can't possibly defeat me. You've barely even scratched the surface of what you're capable of, dear sister." Koneko stared right through her.
"Let her go," she repeated. Her sister smirked and made a tiny cut on Asia's cheek. Koneko, shaking with rage, let out a frenzied scream and launched her body at Kuroka. Kuroka jumped to the side, still holding Asia against her like a shield.
"Too slow!" she taunted. "You'll never be as strong as I am, Shirone." Koneko's vision turned red. She summoned all her sage energy into a massive emerald orb. She heard Rias behind her gasp and cry out some sort of warning, but Koneko didn't care. Finally, she'd found happiness. Her sister wasn't going to take that away from her too, just like she had years ago, before Rias. The ground hissed and bubbled underneath the chaos of her magic, acrid black smoke curling around her. Kuroka's eyes widened.
"You'd dare to use that against me? Your sister? Koneko didn't answer. Kuroka's mouth formed into a twisted, ugly smile. "A woman after my own heart."
"I'm nothing like you. And you are not my sister." Koneko screamed back. "Let Asia go, or there won't even be a whisker of you left to bury!"
"Go ahead and destroy me then!" Kuroka shot back. "You'll kill your little girlfriend along with me!"
A tiny, high voice behind Koneko came out of nowhere.
"Not if I help, as a man of the Gremory family!"
Koneko whirled around to see Gasper's eyes flash into crimson mirrors as he activated his Balor view. Koneko froze instantly, and Asia carefully slid out from beneath her arm, running towards Koneko. Gasper made a tiny squeaking noise.
"I can't hold her much longer! She's so strong!" Gasper warned. Koneko advanced toward her sister, guiding the orb of all her resentment, rage, and hatred she had ever felt towards Kuroka. She raised her hand and brought the magic within a foot of her sister's frozen body.
"You. You destroy my life, you leave me for dead, you kill people just for the fun of it, and now you try to take my Asia away from me?" Koneko's anger swelled. She couldn't even hear her voice as she condemned the woman she had once lived. She had nothing more to say to the black nekomata, save two words.
"Goodbye, Kuroka."
A/N: I promised you all I would have weekly or biweekly uploads so here it is (and a little cliffhanger to boot) I'm going to continue to try and keep to that schedule, but May will be a very busy month for me so if I don't, I'm sorry :( Writing for all of you and all the support I've been getting have been amazing. Thank you so much for reading, especially to my followers 3 I'm still considering writing lemons as separate stories that will be canon in this one, if you'd like that send me a PM and let me know and I'll work on that (when it's time). As always, thanks for reading!
