Pride's End
Scar was standing over him. That devious, cruel expression in his eyes was almost predictable. Mufasa felt like a fool. It had always been evident that his brother was different. His mind worked in a special way. He had, time and time again, defended his brother. Now he knew that he had made the wrong choice.
The warning signs had been there. They always had. He, in all of his foolishness, had chosen to ignore it. He should have known better. He was meant to be a wise leader. Where had his wisdom gone to? It had certainly abandoned him.
What of the pride? Scar was never meant to be king. He wasn't trained to be a king. He only knew his insatiable longing to be recognised and to be powerful. He wasn't prepared to be a leader. No one could tell him that. He would never believe them. He was too arrogant.
In Scar's potent scheme where would Simba and Sarabi fit? Sarabi would never surrender to Scar. She was too strong, too bold. She was the kind who could lead without a moment's hesitation. She knew, deep inside she had the spirit of a leader. He could kill her because of it, or he could at least try.
Mufasa didn't dare look. Was Simba somewhere that he could see what was happening? That would hurt him too much. It would endanger Scar's schemes if he saw. After all this, he knew that Scar would stop at nothing. He could have planned to have them both die all along.
As he watched his brother in terror he only knew was that he should have done more. He was staring into the eyes of death; cold, unfeeling, hateful and limitless. He should have been stricter. He should have made him understanding. The ideas raced through his head even though he knew that he was too late.
Scar sneered. "Long live the King,"
Author's Note: I started this and suddenly had a craving for The Lion King and the old Disney. On my hunt through YouTube I found a video about Scar. I admit, I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. I hadn't ever thought of him as anything other than evil, which I now regret. How can I be a fan of wǔxiá and still judge people by their initial portrayal? Well, the idea of the story is the same. The premise is as I first imagined. In fact, the layout is too. I merely slipped my new knowledge in. Oh, and if you're wondering about the title, yes, there are two meanings. Simba is his pride and joy but that has to end, to an extent. Also, his pride is now Scar's so that ends too. So, I thank you for reading. I hope that you enjoyed this piece. I apologise if you are unsatisfied.
