Hello, my fellow readers! If I've done this right then this is a new chapter of A new god in Remnant! If you can see the C2, just ignore it and I'll fix it later, but anyway I am excited to get this show on the road! So let's go see how BOI is doing.
I do not own RWBY or God of War, they all belong to their respective creators. RWBY is owned by Rooster Teeth and Monty Oum may he rest in peace, and God of War is owned by Santa Monica Studio.
After everything he just told them... it absolutely blew her mind.
Ruby was astounded by the tales of Atreus' life and adventures! Apparently the boy in front of her was a god! An Oum legitimate god! But he also said that he was part giant, which didn't really make sense since he was a normal, 15 year old looking guy. He said that not all giants were giant, and they were more formally known as Jötnar from Jötunheim, which definitely wasn't confusing at all for her. Anyway, as he was saying, the nine realms where he was from -and Ruby seriously couldn't get over that there were nine whole worlds sitting on a... world tree? As he put it?- Augh, she was losing track already!
Atreus said, that there was once a super evil pathological lying god named Odin, who made everyone's lives and everything miserable, he even imprisoned and tortured one of Atreus' best friend/uncle/co-dad in an indestructible tree long before he met him, since Odin believed him to be a threat. And the only way he and his dad could free him was by cutting off his head and to resurrect him, which Ruby turned green at that thought.
But there some nice gods that Atreus mentioned, like the nice witch lady, Freya her name was. He said she was a Vanir goddess and queen of Vanaheim, though he mentioned that due to reasons involving her son, she Kinda wanted to kill Atreus' dad but then turned good again.
He didn't really elaborate on it much and seemed unsure to talk about it.
Atreus even told them about how his mom wished for he and his dad to take her ashes and spread them on the highest peak in all the realms, Ruby and Yang smiled sympathetically as they had something in common with the apparent god.
They were originally going to the tallest mountain that they thought was the highest peak, which was where they found their super smart friend who told them that they had to go to Jötunheim instead and only he could lead them there, resulting for Atreus' dad to cut off his head.
The three of them fought lots of gods and monsters and had to solve puzzles to reach the end of their journey, but it turned out that all the giants mysteriously died as their bodies lied across mountains, Ruby found it very sad and dreadful, that you went so far to get to the place where your other people were, only to find them all dead before you could meet them.
She nearly cried, but Atreus assured her that it would get better, much to her and her family's confusion.
Dad asked him if they had magic and what kind of god he and his dad were, but he asked in a weird serious way. The two sisters also wanted to know and asked if he could make wishes come true or if he tell them their future, he told them that he wasn't even sure what kind of god he was except for being really good at talking to animals and turning into one, but he did say that the Jötnar had the ability to have visions of the future, and that definitely got a rise out of them.
But he could only mostly get them in his dreams, and the disappointment was not hidden. Continuing, he informed that his father was a foreign god from a land called Sparta, a god of war that lost so much to the other gods there that he killed them all and destroyed his homeland in the name of vengeance. Everyone was horrified by this and Yang angrily questioned how his own father could commit absolute genocide. To which Atreus responded that his dad didn't care for the consequences until it was over, his father later grew to regret and was ashamed of his old self which was why he came to Midgard to leave his past behind and live as a man.
Yang had calmed down a bit but still looked upset. Atreus remembered dad's other question and explained that magic was everywhere, and if you knew how to use it you could do things like control plants or slow time to a crawl or make enchanted weapons which dwarves were special for, Ruby didn't know what a dwarf was but her eyes were full of stars at the sound of magic weaponry. She wanted to know how Dust was incorporated with the weapons of his land.
To everyone's surprise, Dust doesn't exist in any of the nine realms. At first, Atreus asked us why we talked about dust a lot, which he thought we meant common dust particles and not the fuel or ammunition source.
He then became very interested and fascinated with what Dust was used for, from powering cities and machines to weapons and transportation. Yang handed him a shotgun shell from Ember Celica and he fiddled with it, checking it all over with curiosity until he accidentally broke it open and breathed some of the fire Dust causing him to cough up some flames. Ruby so was startled by the way he just breathed fire with such a small sample of Dust that she hoped to never experience the same thing.
Atreus then finished off by telling the group of his latest adventure and events that involved the supposed end of all worlds known as Ragnarök.
"So you're telling me, that this guy, Odin, killed his own son because he didn't want to kill your dad anymore and chalked that up saying he had no choice? Where you then took his soul which inadvertently kills him?" Yang straightened out slowly so she made sure she was hearing correctly.
The boy-god nodded in confirmation while he scratched Zwei's head, "That's what happened."
Yang stared at him for a few seconds before saying, "Bastard got what he fricking deserved." That earned some outrage from her sister and father. "Yang!/Language!" They said at the same time.
Gosh, her sister can say what she wants on the subject but couldn't she just not swear for goodness sake!
"So, anyway, that was the end of Odin. The Ragnarök beast was about to destroy Asgard with all of us still in that cave were it not for Freyr buying time for us to escape through Fenrir's portal, but at the cost of his life. His sacrifice would be remembered for a very long time."
Atreus looked despondent about his friend's death, she knew he never wanted to lose anyone for just wanting answers about what his destiny and purpose was. Ruby didn't know what it was like to have a prophecy you didn't know about but she could relate somewhat with the feelings of loss with Atreus.
"After that, Angrboda showed my father and I a mural of how my mother foresaw everything and more and destroyed the last mural back in Jötunheim to help us forge our own path, so that we don't become bonded by fate." He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before continuing, "I then told father how I needed to leave and find other giants, because they were my responsibility. I've been searching ever since and I found few clues on where to go, and now I'm... here." He said, bringing his arms down on his knees.
He then glanced at each of them with hopeful expectation, "Sooo, do you believe me?"
No one said anything for a moment before her dad got up from his chair looking down at the god, "In the first quarter of your story, I was skeptical, like it sounded like full blown nonsense. But... there was no way anyone could make that up in just a few hours. So, I accept it as the truth. Girls?"
Yang made her mouth into a flat line and furrowed her brow and then looked up to the boy, "I'd say the same as dad, you clearly don't have a reason to lie about any of it. And you did fall on our roof, soooo, yeah you're cool." She said with her signature dazzling smile.
And then all eyes fell on Ruby, oh boy now she's nervous. "Oh, well... yeah I believe you. The magic part does explain how your bow works. And it's super cool! You're a god from another world that goes on adventures and slays monsters for a living! Like a Huntsman! But not that first part." She muttered to herself quietly, much to the amusement of her family.
The young god smiled at being accepted and then made an awkward face, "Uh, before I forget, I just wanted to know what this realm is called? I didn't see the sign as I dropped in here." A few seconds of silence later and the two Xiao Long's were laughing their butts off, leaving the little Rose to groan instead. Great, now there was three of them.
Yang was the first to recover from her laughter, wiping a tear from her eye, "Well, let us be the first ones to introduce to you the world of Remnant! Why don't we start with showing you around the house, eh buddy boy?" She nudged her elbow at him.
"Sounds great, where should we start first?" His question was quickly answered by a now super charged Ruby.
"Oh! I know! We can start with the kitchen! You've probably never had anything to eat since you woke up, so we should fix you something good! Wait, what do gods eat? Will there be anything that you can eat? Ah! What if our food is bad for you?! What if we accidentally poison you or something?!"
She then went on in a babbling mess, trying to think of ways to feed her new god friend something that wouldn't kill him. Thankfully, Atreus stopped her from going any further in her panic. "Ruby, it's fine, I can eat normal things like you do. After all, all gods have a basic human appetite, so don't worry about it too much. Just so long as you don't give me something raw I'll be okay." Ruby felt how flushed her face was and apologised for her embarrassment.
Yang looked back at dad as he was doing something on his Scroll, "Hey dad, ya comin'?" She asked.
"Yeah, I will later, promise. Just have to make a call to Ozpin, figured he'd be interested in meeting our new friend." He said, giving her a smile and a thumbs up.
The girls were surprised that their dad wanted Headmaster Ozpin to meet Atreus so early, but maybe professor Ozpin could help him get home to Midgard. So they both shrugged and guided Atreus into the kitchen.
But the second they left, they didn't notice their father's face turning stone dead serious and pressed the call button.
It was a sunny afternoon at Beacon academy, the students were up and about training their hardest and studied hours long over nights for the upcoming school year. Many of the staff were preparing classrooms for the new first year's coming in for initiation, while others were preoccupied with the planning of class trips and grading of students.
Some of the student body grew bored with the overall homework they were assigned and wished for something exciting to happen. The desire to take on missions and fight Grimm was squandered though, as the storm from last night knocked out some of the systems in CCTS leaving no mission posts available for anyone.
And interestingly enough, just before the CCTS was taken down for repairs, Ozpin, the headmaster of the academy received a call from his old friend and student, Taiyang Xiao Long.
It was quite curious as to why the former Huntsman wanted to speak to him as only two days ago they had discussed miss Rose's early enrolment. Hoping that nothing tragic happened he answered. And was he lucky that he did.
After having explained the situation about this new 'god' that had apparently fallen out of the sky through dimensional travel, the headmaster told Taiyang that he will arrive at the household to see the boy himself and implored that he remain at premises until then. After hanging up, he pondered over this new opportunity that has presented itself in his interlocked stalemate with the Queen.
And not long ago, two other individuals appeared of similar arrivals that he had come into contact with.
He then called for his close friend, professor Goodwitch, to meet him at the Bullhead platform and to bring their more... 'brash' associate with them on their trip to Patch. Ozpin was certain that the godly boy would be happy to see him again.
He put the spoon in his mouth and let the food sit there for a moment. It was good, really good. When the sisters offered Loki a bowl of what they called 'leftover pasta', he didn't what to make of it. It had squishy little spirals and tiny bits of meat with red sauce in it.
Yang said it was a type of Mistral dish that became popular about a decade ago.
Atreus still needed to learn the cultural history of Remnant, so he made sure to ask his questions just they asked they asked him.
"So, before, you said that my lifestyle was like a Huntsmen's. But what does that mean exactly?" He was honestly interested in the idea of a guild made of monster hunters, at least that's what he interpreted it as. He wondered what kind of creatures Remnant had.
"Huntsmen are the protectors of humanity of course! They go to either 4 academies to train and hone their skills, there's Beacon, Atlas, Mistral, and Vacuo. Once you graduate and get your license you'll be able to choose your assigned mission! What do you think? It's pretty cool, huh?" Ruby described, shooting a wide smile.
The Champion chuckled a little as he ate another spoonful of pasta, "I don't understand some of the stuff you said, but I got most of it." It was funny seeing the red themed girl deflate at his reply, she seems so full of energy yet socially inexperienced. Then Atreus thought back on what she said, "And what kind of monsters do these people fight? Are there any rare ones out there that are hard to find?"
"Weeell, there's only one common species that's a constant threat to everyone, which is the Grimm."
Yang's answer caused the young god to choke mid swallow of his food. He shot a majorly shocked look at the two sisters, "Did you just say, the Grim?! You have Grim here?" It was then Ruby and Yang's turn to look surprised.
"Wait a minute, do you have Grimm in the nine realms?!" Ruby said with a gasp of excitement, "This is amazing! That means we have a common ground! Oh, oh, which one did you find the deadliest, was it an Alpha Beowolf. Or was it a King Taijitu! Or was it a Death Stalker! Or-" Ruby's super hyper questions when Atreus finally spoke, "Uh... I don't think we're talking about the same Grim as I thought." This gave pause to them, Ruby's face became as red as her namesake with embarrassment having jumped onto a topic without the full context.
Yang managed to change the subject to ovoid further silence, "So, how about we show the rest of the house! And you can take your bowl with you, too." She said, jovially. And Atreus was more than happy to explore.
The trio went upstairs and opened the bathroom. Loki was introduced to the sink, the toilet and the bathtub/shower, the floor was covered in white tiles while the walls were a cream colour. What amazed him the most was that the toilet flushes the waste away who knows where. "You're that surprised about a flushing toilet? Seriously, how backwards are you in the realms?" Yang snarked with an arched brow.
"Hey, we only have outhouses and buckets to do our business, and it was even worse when Fimblwinter came, you try taking a dump in the forest with Hel-Walkers roaming around trying to eat your face off." The girls cringed with disgust when imagining such a situation.
Moving on, the bedrooms were next on the presentation list. They had a spare room for in case guests came over, which they figured Atreus would be staying in for the unforeseen future.
But, Ruby and Yang's room was the main focus. On one side was Ruby's area, her bedsheets also matched her colours except for the throw on sheets that were white, her shelf was decorated with small wooden figurines that he guessed were based on Remnant's Grimm. There was a desk and chair pushed against the side of the wall next to her bed with a mirror adjacent to it.
Yang's area mirrored her sister's, but the shelf instead had some books with her desk and drawers below it. There were a few landscape paintings hanging from the walls, some of valleys and some of lakes... he was really seeing a lot of lakes in his life. Weird.
They now rounded back in the living room, "So! Now that you've seen what's on the inside of the house, it's time to show around outside! We can even show you our little target range, I believe we've been long overdue to see your magic bow in action, wouldn't you agree, Rubes?" Yang smirked towards her sister.
"Oh, you betcha! I've been dying to see what Sonic attuned arrows look like, ever since you mentioned it! Come on, let's go!"
"Hold it, young lady." Their father stopped Ruby before she could get to the door, "Before you all go out, I just want to let you know that professor Ozpin is coming over later to meet with Atreus, so I want you guys to stay where I can see all of you. And Atreus?" He said, keeping his attention on the boy. "I don't care if you're a god or not, you're still a kid so be careful, alright?"
Atreus nodded, "Yes, sir." He would give his respect for the man who helped him as well to his daughters that were really nice to be with, he collected his belongings, his bow, his quiver, and his knife. Yang held the door open for the three of them while rolling her eyes, "Relax, dad, even if something bad happens we can take care of it. And Atreus can just use his god powers to keep the Grimm away." She said confidently.
"That's not it works, sorry." Loki's comment made her deadpan in annoyance, not meeting her father's eyes as he plastered a smug smile on.
With the door closed behind them, Ruby voiced her question, "But if you're a god that can talk to animals, and Grimm are technically animals, couldn't you tell them to go away?" Atreus sighed, as he began elaborating. "Again, not how it works. If these Grimm have thoughts then I would feel their presence or emotions, it's not like I can just, make creatures do my bidding. It's like..." his hand made spinning motions as he tried to find the best way to explain his abilities. "It's like I can reason with them, sometimes, but not all of them. Most just choose to kill and attack because it's part of their nature, and they don't know any better. For example, Garm, he didn't have a soul and only knew to destroy what was in front of him."
"The giant unkillable dog, that tore open portals all over the realms, which you and your dad stopped by putting your pet wolf's soul into it." Yang recounted.
"Right, so you see, I'm still learning how to use my powers to their fullest. And right now I can't do much, sorry for ruining any expectations you had of me." He apologised, as they walked over to a shed that seemed large enough to fit a Wyvern, maybe two.
"Well, I guess we have to know our limits in order to break them. Man, being a god must be hard, huh? Anyway, here's our shed we keep all our tools for, and I over there is my pride and joy Bumblebee!" The yellow themed girl exclaimed proudly. Before Atreus was a... it was a... honestly he had no idea what he was looking at, it was some sort of... metal mechanism... or something. It was mostly yellow with some red fading.
"Uh, what is... that?" He pointed at the... thing, "What? It's... oh come on! You don't have motorcycles too?! Gah! Every time I learn more about your world, the more boring I'm picturing it. You had to have at least something fun to do, right?" Yang had the look of one who kept hearing terrible news and was about to have a mental breakdown.
"Well father and I trained and traveled a lot. I also listened to a ton of Mimir's stories, some of them were pretty funny." When Yang didn't look convinced, he tried to think up any fun stories Mimir told him, and luckily one did.
"You don't believe me? Well, I'll tell you the reason why Mimir was given bifrost eyes. He and the giants became close friends to the point where they entrusted him with bifrost crystals for eyes, and since he travelled a lot it would've been convenient for him to have a secret key to access Jötunheim. Now, the process of having these crystals put into his head would have been very painful if he didn't get drunk enough to make the pain numb enough." He then remembered the funny but also gross part of this story. "And you know what the really funny part was? While he was drunk, he almost convinced them to put them in his nipples instead and be called... 'Mimir of the bifrost teats'." He chuckled and snorted a bit as that story never got old.
And it was a good choice too, cus' the girls laugh, Ruby even made the same reaction he did when he first heard it.
•••
After some time later of telling Mimir's stories, the group got some target dummies out for his demonstration of his magic. Ruby had put the last one down and wiped off the sweat built up on her forehead, "Ok, they're all ready!" She called out, five dummies were placed in a row. They had stuffed sacks with two red circles and a red dot in the middle, and they had wood boards with evil faces on them as heads.
Mr Xiao Long decided to come out and watch as well with great amounts of curiosity. "So this 'sonic' magic, it can create disruptions in certain stones and metals that when in contact with your arrows they... burst?" He questioned, trying to wrap his head around the understanding of the enchantment.
"Yeah, pretty much. They can also stun enemies for a few moments if you wanted to get up close and personal on them. Now, watch this." Atreus concentrated on his target, breathed slowly, pulled his arm back. And before he loosed, "Skjálfa!" The sonic arrow flew straight into the target's chest creating a sonic disruption across its form. He then launched three arrows each into the other three dummies making that snapping sound as always, and finally he charged his last attack, knocking back three arrows before firing at the last one. "Skjálfa!"
The young Jötun looked back at his audience and saw their faces dumbfounded, Ruby broke the silence with her over excitement, "That was amazing!" She cried out with cheer, "The way your bow glowed green, and your arrows doing that 'Shpow!' Sound! And you were super fast when you knocked your arrows too! I've never seen anyone be that fast with a bow before! And was that word you said how you activated it! You've. Got. To. Tell. Me. Everything!" She was shaking him by the shoulders at this point, the young boy's eyes were rolling all over the place!
Thanks to her family they managed to reel her back to a safe distance, "Easy kiddo, let the god have some room to breathe, he can't answer any of us if his brain's all busted." He scolded his youngest daughter, making her blush in embarrassment.
Shaking his head, Atreus was able to speak out his explanation, "It-I... oof! When I say Skjálfa, it triggers the effect of the spell. And I just trained a lot with shooting." He then checked his quiver to see the Mystic Refill enchantment still working properly. "And I've got a full quiver of ten again, neat huh?"
"Wait, your quiver can regenerate your arrows for you?! Is there anything you can't do?!" Ruby was flabbergasted with excitement with all the knowledge of magic being thrown around.
Mr Xiao Long was shaking his own head with an amused grin, "I'll say, I don't think Ozpin's gonna turn a blind eye on you when you show him what else you can do." He commented with certainty.
There was that name again, he really should have asked about that sooner, "Uh, I've been meaning to ask, who's this 'Ozpin' guy you keep talking about? Is he someone important?" He asked, Atreus wasn't sure what the rest of the Remnites were like and if these people had never seen magic before, then he would not become a means to an end to them, not like how Odin did lied to him.
"Oh, professor Ozpin is a legendary Huntsman! He became the headmaster of Beacon Academy at young age, he's trained all sorts of cool Huntsmen and Huntresses like our dad and uncle Qrow. And I don't think he's ever lost a fight against anyone or Grimm before." Ruby pondered on the last part before her eyes widened as she remembered something, "Oh, I completely forgot! Yang and I got accepted into Beacon this year and we'll be leaving next week to go! Though I actually got skipped ahead by two years, lucky me I guess?" Ruby chuckled nervously as she rubbed the back of her neck.
Skipped ahead? What did that mean? That her training no longer required her to finish? Before Atreus could think more about it, he heard the sound of wheels grinding against gravel. He turned around and saw a... black metal box with glass and wheels moving towards them. Loki readied an arrow on instinct, before he realised that this might have been the professor Ozpin he was told about.
The strange metal box that reminded Atreus of those mine carts in Svartalfheim came to a halt and became silent as the dead. Two people came out of it, a man and a woman, but he could feel the presence of someone else inside. The man who he assumed was Ozpin, was pale in complexion, had silver gray hair and brown eyes with weird spectacles sitting on his nose. He wore black pants and jacket with a dark green vest that had bronze buttons, he had a green cowl around his neck with a cross pin in the middle of it. Atreus got a strong bizarre feeling about this man and he didn't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing.
Tearing his eyes away from the green clad man, he did not know who the woman was. She had blonde hair tied in a bun with a curly strand along the right side of her face, her eyes were a bright green that looked sharp and precise. She had the same type of pale skin as Ozpin but her face reminded the young Jötun of Sif, he shuddered at the memories of her staring him down. She wore a white long sleeved pleated shirt with a keyhole neckline and gauntlet cuffs pleated at the wrists, she also had a high waisted... skirt? And it looked like she had the same long socks that Ruby had except these were brown. What kind of boots is this woman wearing?
Mr Xiao Long came up from behind Atreus standing next to him, he had a friendly smile when meeting Ozpin's eyes, "Hey, Oz! Glad to see you again, even after two days it feels like it's been forever since we met in person." He said, welcomed bantering.
Ozpin chuckled in response at his friend's humorous greeting as he had a soft smile, "Indeed old friend, but it has been only two days since that event with miss Rose. So any day is welcome for a visit, but I did not expect you to call me for such an urgent matter." He then gazed down to Atreus, having just noticed him. "And you must be the young man that I've been told so much about. Taiyang here, tells me that you proclaimed yourself as a god from an alternate reality, and that you also fell from the sky last night during the thunderstorm. Is that true?" The middle aged man asked.
Atreus got the feeling that his story was being described as a child's fantasy by someone who would disprove such a thing as nothing more than complete nonsense. He... supposed that if this world didn't experience realm travel, it would probably brand him as a crazy person.
"Erm... yeah? I mean, that's sort of what I told him. I-I promise that I am telling the truth and I... uh-" Just as he was about to ramble with his words, Ozpin raised his hand to stop him. "Mister Atreus, I assure you that I do not possess any disbelief that you would fabricate any false claims about your origins. When Taiyang went into great detail of your life story and explained how he discovered you unconscious in the rain, I found it hard to not believe that you said is true." The way he talked was almost fatherly, like he knew from experience that he's dealt with this sort of situation before.
The woman cleared her throat and finally joined in the conversation, "Well that, and the fact that we have encountered others who arrived here in a similar way than you have. One such individual we brought with us." She closed her eyes and sighed in tiredly as if she regretted bringing this someone here.
Wait. There are others here too?! That must have been who he felt in the black metal cart! As if on cue, the back door of the thing swung open followed by a grunt of frustration, "Bout' damn time that accursed fuckin' belt unclipped! Now what the fuck did I miss?!"
That... swearing, that... voice. It-it-it couldn't be.
"Ah, good of you to finally join us, still struggling with the seatbelts after all this time becoming accustomed to Remnant?" Ozpin addressed the newcomer in a teasing manner.
"Go fuck yerself, ya four eyed table humper! I'm not the one having's the problem, it's un-fuckin-necessary for those things to be built in a car!"
He stood there, right in front of Atreus. The blue skin, the square head, the gold armour beneath that forging apron. It was him. It had to be him, no doubt about it.
The woman was furiously reprimanding him until the sound of the Talon bow hitting the ground stopped her, with tears welling up in his eyes, Atreus uttered one word with a shaky voice.
"Brok?"
That's right everybody! Brok's back! I really played with the idea of Brok just showing up in front of Atreus being all 'What's up fuckers!' And Atreus is like'WHAT!' But nah that's too mind fucked for the boy to handle.
I would like to thank those who followed and favourited A new god in Remnant, I really appreciate it and hope you all stick around for more. Though I may have to put this story on pause since Jedi Survivor came out recently so it may or may not take most of my time, but don't worry! I will be back to continue writing more chapters, I will not abandon this story like others have with theirs.
Now with all that covered, I'ma biggidy bounce outta here! Team Four Star lets gooo!!
