Minutes to Heaven
Part III

Mirai was in a rush, but he didn't want to miss Izuku. She would be heading to UA by now and if he left at that moment, he could catch the train she would be in and hand her the prenatal vitamins he'd said he would get to her that day. A glance at his watch told him he'd get there in a minute and soon enough, he was on the grounds of the train station just as it pulled in. He sent her a quick text as he entered the train and looked around.

"Why are you so damn short?" he muttered to himself, trying to find her.

A sudden poke to his arm had him warily whirling to face the violator, only to face a pouting Izuku.

"I'm height challenged, not short, Sir," she told him with a flat face, even if her lips twitched and ruined it.

Both glad she was acting rather normal and pleased that she'd told a joke of sorts, he gave her a slight smile and reached over to hesitantly pat her shoulder.

"Good morning, Izuku," he said, testing her name on his tongue, the unfamiliar casual use of it strange.

"G-good morning, Sir," she told him as she glanced around stiffly, back to being timid and withdrawn. He looked around and inwardly wondered if this was where Overhaul had attacked her, or was it just too similar…?

"In public as civilians, it's Mirai, remember?" he murmured to her, just as he gently pulled her closer and tucked her into his side, holding onto her protectively. "If you don't want to go by train, I could always drive you from school to the Agency and then back to your school, on days of your work study? There are guest rooms at the Agency too, so you have no need to head back so late. And on your days off when you're visiting home, like today, I could still take you to school."

"You don't have to drive me everywhere, Mirai-san," she muttered as her cheeks colored.

"But would you like me to?"

"…Yes."

Mirai nodded. It would reassure him anyhow —he'd already failed to keep her safe and not be harmed by Overhaul; if he had to resort to these measures, he was more than fine driving her around.

"Here, these are for you," he handed her a small plastic bag. "There's two bottles of prenatal vitamins for you to take."

"Thank you," she murmured, accepting them from him. "Are you…are you still willing to set up an appointment with the doctor for me?"

"Of course," he reassured her. "I have already done so, in fact. If you can't make it, I can always easily reschedule, but I thought setting one up should be prioritized. If you're free in the evening, I can pick you up from UA and take you to Ootori Medical."

She wrung her hands. "I can make it, but…I don't think my insurance —"

"It's handled," Mirai said, voice brooking no arguments.

Izuku frowned but didn't voice her worry about it. While Toshinori had also offered to cover the cost because of the Midoriya's lacking insurance (he also most assuredly would look into why they were covered by such a pathetic coverage), Mirai had already gone ahead and covered it himself. Maybe it was out of guilt of what happened to her or of how he'd initially acted towards Izuku, but he was trying his best to make it up to her by all means.

"Your tie's off," she said quietly, reaching up and taking his tie in hand. She concentrated on readjusting it, but her comment and her subsequent action had caught him off guard. "You're usually neater about your appearance…"

He'd become awkwardly bent towards her, taken aback and even a little embarrassed, so much so that he had just gone along with it and allowed her to do what she wanted. Which led to her just untying his tie and redoing it, fixing it straight and then laying it flat against him. She was just as awkward after, dropping her arms to dangle uselessly by her sides.

"Uh, yes…thank you, I-Izuku," he said, trying to go back to being casual and neutral.

She gave him a small nod, but the slight color tint to her cheeks made him smile a little to himself.

The train grew crowded and she inched closer to him, and Mirai easily noticed, carefully guiding her to him and once again protectively tucking her into his side.

Nighteye (Mirai, she had to keep reminding herself) had accompanied her all the way to the UA stop, as he said he would, and she stood at the stop and watched him leave her. His eyes never left her either and instead of making her uncomfortable, it made her feel reassured and even safe. She was being watched over. Someone was looking out for her.

Things would be fine.

She was surprised and yet extremely grateful for his offer in driving her around too —she had become paranoid and extremely jittery traveling around by herself, but especially on the train. The memories of that night haunted her and made her terrified of being on the train late at night.

Sighing to herself, Izuku began to make the rest of her way to UA on foot, intent on getting through the day as quick as she could. She still had a doctor's appointment to get to.

…Which was another point she was taken aback with. She was glad about it, no doubt, but…that Night-Sir-Mirai had taken the time and trouble to settle things for her had been unexpected and she was infinitely grateful to him for that too.

And looking at the bag in her hand made her cheeks flush. He was taking care of her so diligently that she felt flustered and confused. His usual demeanor and usual attitude towards her had changed to the point that he was willing to outwardly express his support and worry, and go as far as to take care of her needs and arrange whatever else she'd ask of him.

"Ah! Young Midoriya! You've arrived!"

She made herself smile brightly at the tall blond man, who'd come to greet her. While still unsure of him knowing about what happened to her, she was still grateful to have him by her side.

"Good morning, Toshinori," she said, trying to be as cheerful as she was before everything happened. It was still hard these days, but not as bad as it was in the beginning.

"Good morning to you too, Midoriya-kun. You'll have a full day, I hear, and there's your current condition —I'll try to readjust your training schedule."

She looked around uneasily, but it was just them and no one else to hear him.

He shuffled slowly closer to her and she tried not to tense, relaxing herself so that she would seem okay to his eyes. She didn't want Toshinori to feel bad or remind him of her circumstances. She gave him a small smile and reached out to grasp his hand, squeezing it to reassure him before she let go.

Together, they walked quietly to enter the school. As they headed to homeroom, Toshinori nudged her.

"You're sure you're okay with Mirai taking you to your appointment later?" he whispered.

The reminder of M-Mirai taking her to her appointment later made her unconsciously smile to herself.

"Yeah, I'm okay with it."

It was really nice having him be there and supporting her through all of it, even if she didn't understand his thoughts. Nevertheless, even his gentler, softer moments from the beginning had been just as nice as his overt shows of concern now. And she more than appreciated his help and hoped he'd continue to do so…

Toshinori smiled himself and gently patted her back. "Have a good day then, Midoriya-kun. I'll see you later."

Mirai drove all the way to UA himself, deciding to just make it easier on them both instead of dealing with the train. Plus, he understood now that maybe the train was possibly trauma-inducing and could trigger her if she continually dealt with it.

In that, he parked nearby and sent her a text, waiting for a reply. When he received one, he sighed in relief and waited for her to indicate she was out of the school. When she told him she was coming out, he put his car in Drive and headed over to the front, where he could see her waiting. Strolling to a stop in front of her, he waited for her to get in and put on her seatbelt before he drove off.

"How was school?" he asked, feeling mundane. But it pulled a small, amused tug of her lips so it was okay. "I hope it was well."

"Yeah, it was nice," she murmured. "Toshinori tried to check in often and I went through all my classes okay. Some of the others were…too loud and it gave me a headache, but that's been lessening over time. My head feels better now."

He frowned. "Better to ask and have the doctor know though."

"…I suppose."

"Did you get to eat well today? If you're still hungry, we can stop by somewhere before your appointment or straight after we can find a place…"

"I haven't really been hungry," she muttered.

He held his tongue, not wanting to overstep. But she was pregnant and he was worried…

"Izuku," he saw her glance at him hesitantly. "I don't want to…mistake my place. However, I encourage you to eat more, even if you don't feel hungry. Maybe a light snack every now and then? You are pregnant after all, and the health of you and your baby is paramount."

She didn't say anything and he feared he may have upset her, but the small nod she made had him inwardly sigh.

"Do you want me to come up with you?" he asked as he went through the parking lot then and found parking.

"Could you?" she asked in a small voice and he merely turned off his car and then went to her side, opening her door and helping her out.

Then, without another word, he held her arm gently and escorted her into the private hospital. After he'd signed her in and they immediately took her from him, he settled for a wait in the waiting room.

He tried to not think about the echo of Toshinori's words of how he was acting like a new father.

Mirai groaned, blinking blearily and trying to think of what woke him up. His illuminated limited edition All Might clock read 1:15 and he frowned. Then his phone rang again and he wondered who would be calling —Oh. Hurriedly snatching up his phone, he answered it breathlessly.

"Izuku?" he said without having even looked at his Caller ID.

There was a pause before, "Um, sorry, Mirai-san. I know it's late, but…"

"What's wrong?"

"I can't sleep and I really, really want onigiri," she said quietly.

"…I see." He calculated the time. "I'll be there within the hour, alright? If you fall asleep, that's fine. You need your rest."

"…Thank you."

As soon as he hung up, he searched up 24/7 stores and gas stations closest to him and then he flung himself out of bed and shoved his shoes on, heading out. It didn't take him too long to find a store and he meandered through it sleepily, finding a small section with a variety of flavored onigiri and at least some normal ones.

He grabbed a few of each and carried them in his arms. Walking towards the register, he spotted some caffeinated drinks. He grabbed one and cracked it open, chugging it down as he continued walking.

At the register, he dropped his pile down and finished the drink, the cashier warily watching as he rung Mirai's purchases up. He probably looked deranged.

"This too," he muttered, handing over the empty can.

The cashier took it from him and added it to his purchases, before throwing it away without even being asked. He finished up there before hurrying up. When he drove towards UA, the normally hour drive took half of that with his driving. He probably raced passed almost-red lights and ignored a few actual ones altogether, but he was in a hurry and at least it was really late at night and without a lot of cars out. Besides, he was being counted on.

Once he was at UA though, he wondered how he could get to her. Last time, he'd been with her so he'd been let in easily. This time, he was alone and it was extremely late. Moreover, he couldn't say he was there to visit Izuku. Since he couldn't say anything about her pregnancy, and with how late it was…his visit looked extremely questionable.

Still…squaring his shoulders, his resolve to just go in bolstered his approach. But at the reception desk, the current nightshift took one look at him before handing him a pass, silently pointing out the way down the hall. Confused, he accepted his pass and continued on.

Thinking on it, he was pretty sure this was the work of Nedzu. Which meant the rat demon probably already knew about Izuku's pregnancy.

He sighed to himself, thinking he'd have to let Izuku know.

Despite what he'd said, Izuku was pretty sure Sir…Mirai wasn't going to make it there within an hour. It took a whole hour to travel from Tokyo to Musutafu, and he still had to find a place to buy onigiri and then actually go take the time to buy some. She really doubted that it wouldn't end up taking over an hour for him to do all that.

She didn't know why she called him either, even if he said she could. It was too late and he was too far away. Maybe he'd even fallen back asleep…Soft knocking made her startle and she stared at her door. When it continued, she hesitantly walked to it and opened her door, staring in surprise at Sir standing right there, messy-haired and wearing a vintage All Might shirt and and plain gray joggers. He had a full plastic bag in hand.

Glancing at her bedside table showed her clock blinking 2:10. That was definitely less than an hour from the time she called him.

"Sir?"

He went to push his glasses up. "I brought onigiri," he held the bag up.

"That's a lot," she said faintly, even as her mouth watered. But then she blushed and peeked around him, seeing the hall was dark and no one was thankfully still up. Gently taking his arm, she quickly pulled him into her room.

Once she settled him onto her bed, she accepted the bag and spilled the contents onto her bed. Then she paused and looked around her room, growing embarrassed.

"Oh, uh, e-excuse my room."

Sir —Mirai! actually laughed and grinned boyishly at her. Like this, he looked so much younger and dare she admit cute.

"You're looking at the only person in the country who doesn't mind and probably would enjoy and admire your bedroom setup. Which, yes, I really like your room."

It made her shyly smile and she hesitantly sat next to him, unwrapping the plastic off of one of the onigiri and biting into it. She handed him a random one and he was quick to unwrap it and bite into it too.

"Lately, I've really, really wanted pickled plums and salted snacks —not salty peanuts though. I stole some of Present Mic's shrimp chips the other day and Aizawa-sensei let me have some senbei that I'd really liked today."

"I see," Mirai answered her, hand diving into his pocket and pulling out his phone, immediately typing into it. "I'll make sure to pick some up in the morning and stuff one of the break room's cabinets with them."

Izuku's face flushed red. "Y-you don't have to do that! I was just noting that aloud."

Mirai put his phone back before turning to her. "I told you whatever you needed, I would get for you," he said plainly. "Whatever craving, at whatever time. If you need something in particular, help with your doctor or help with school, I will help you."

Her whole body seemed to infuse with warmth and she looked at him and didn't see her mentor, didn't see Sir Nighteye. She just saw…Mirai.

She just saw the man that's been by her side this whole time.

He yawned widely then, blinking tiredlly. "Oh. I might be crashing. That caffeine drink only got me so far after all…I'll just…close my eyes for a bit, if you don't mind."

His eyes drooped close and then he fell back onto her bed, dead asleep and not looking to wake up any time soon. She smiled slightly and finished off her onigiri before grabbing another one. When she finished that one off, she gathered the rest and put them back in the bag, putting it aside before she curled up against Mirai's side, falling asleep next to him.

A/: I wrote and finished this some time ago, but…I write more than I can be motivated to edit and update XD I'll try to be better!

Quick Points:

1. Mirai does his best?

2. At least Izuku notices :)
