Return to Shiloh Chapter 25: Conversation in the Parlor)
So how are things going with Ellie now that she's really your daughter, Randy? Things are going just fine, Judge. They're wonderful as a matter of fact. But sometimes I sure do wish she had a mama to teach her the things I can't teach her.
I'm sure when the time is right you'll find someone that could be a mother to her, Randy. In the meantime Josie and Betsy would be glad to teach her what she needs to know. I sure am glad to hear that, Judge. And they'd also be glad to help with any sewing she might need done as well. She won't lack for a mother figure in her life until you find someone,Randy. We're all done with the dishes, Uncle Henry. That's good, Josie. Isn't it about your bedtime, little miss? Yes, sir. I'll take her up to bed, Randy. Thanks, Josie. Goodnight, Daddy, goodnight Jamie. Goodnight, Ellie. I'll be back in a few minutes, Uncle Henry. Where is your nightgown, Ellie? It's right here is this bag, Josie. There you go. Be sure to say your prayers. I will. Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. And God bless Daddy and my new family at Shiloh and my real mama and daddy in heaven. Amen. That was very good, Ellie. Now into the covers you go. Goodnight, dear. Goodnight, Josie. What a sweet child she is, Josie said to herself as she went back downstairs. I've put her to bed, Randy. I hope she can sleep through this storm. If you all will excuse me I shall retire as well.
Goodnight, Uncle Henry. Goodnight, Judge. Goodnight, everyone. Sleep well. If you're ready to turn in I'll show you to the guest room, Randy. That'd be just fine, Josie. I am gettin a little tired, I reckon. It's been a long day for all of us. You can say that again. Here's the guest room. I think you'll find everything you need in here. See you in the morning. Goodnight, Josie. It's real nice havin you here. Thank you,Randy. I'm glad to be here. Goodnight. Goodnight, Emmett. See you in the morning. Goodnight, Josie.
