The kiss made Carmilla feel emotions that she thought were dead inside of her. She was so distracted by the kiss and the feeling of Laura's warm body pressing against hers that she didn't hear the men finally catch up.
She caught the arrow that was being shot at her and broke it in half. Her fangs were out and they unintentionally cut Laura's bottom lip. Laura covered her lip and it was bleeding profusely.
Carmilla was trying to tear herself away from Laura because the taste of her blood on her fangs was driving the vampire mad. She had fought so hard not to give in and drain Laura dry.
She pushed Laura away from her and her entire body told her to flee alone, but she remained where she was for Laura's sake. Laura had landed on the ground and one of the men had held her in his arms.
"If you want her back, monster, then you'll come with us without any trouble."
"And if I don't do as you request?"
"Then we'll force you to watch as we do things to your fair maiden."
Carmilla was ready to kill all of these men and there was a possibility that she'd be able to do that, but she couldn't risk any harm coming to Laura.
The vampire retracted her fangs and licked Laura's blood off of them. Her eyes began to glow and all she wanted was to taste more of Laura's blood. She tried to regain control of herself.
The men tied rope around Carmilla's hands and placed them behind her. She could easily break through it, but couldn't risk it.
Laura was looking at Carmilla and saw that she kept her eyes focused ahead of her. Her lip wound had finally stopped bleeding, but it was going to leave a scar.
The men had made a barrier with their bodies between Laura and Carmilla. They were discussing what should happen once they get back to town.
"Maybe we should kill the monster? We could return the woman to her father or kick them both out of town?"
One man spoke up, the leader, "No, we'll let her father decide what happens. He paid us well for her to come home safely."
Laura was disgusted by these men that they'd come after her and Carmilla when they were beginning to live a happy existence together. She was wondering how she could escape, but it might cause more trouble for her than good.
She wanted to get Carmilla's attention, but the vampire was lost in thought. Perhaps she was thinking about what had distracted her before and Laura could tell that it wasn't from her kiss alone.
As they made their way back to Laura's home, she was able to think about what she'd say to her father the moment she saw him. Would she slap him because he was being so foolish? No, she wouldn't use violence as a tactic for her father to see things her way. She wasn't that type of woman.
Instead, she'd talk to him privately and pray that Carmilla would be safe during this time. Her father must've changed since she had left because the man that the men were talking about sounded far from her father.
Hours had passed by and now, Laura was staring at the man that she once happily called her father. She was furious that her father would allow him to go back against his word of letting her go freely.
Mr. Hollis held up a lantern and when he saw his daughter's face, he began to smile brightly.
"Daughter, you've returned!"
He saw the cut on her lip and immediately turned towards Carmilla.
"You just couldn't keep your hands off of her!"
Carmilla didn't defend herself and let the old man yell at her. He had aged a lot since she had last seen him. It was like that he had changed from a loving man to a cold one.
"I did nothing of the sort. It was an accident, what happened."
The leader had whispered something in Mr. Hollis's ear and the look on his face made the blood drain from it.
He took out a blade and stabbed Carmilla in the chest, which caused her to collapse onto her knees. She spat blood out from her mouth and she heard Laura scream.
"Don't you touch her!"
"Daughter, go to our home. I will deal with this monster myself."
"She's not a monster. I love her."
"You what?"
"I love her."
Laura was crying now and Carmilla wanted so badly to help her stop crying, but she remained on her knees. She was counting how many men were besides Laura's father and she counted twelve.
She was rising up, tore the rope off of her hands, and pulled the blade out of her chest. She showed her fangs and the group of men became fearful.
"Now that Laura is safe, I no longer need to keep myself from killing your men."
Mr. Hollis backed away from her and grabbed Laura close to him. Laura tried to wrestle out of his grasp, but he was too strong.
She watched in terror as Carmilla killed each man, one by one, in a quick way. She fed off of them. She was making her way towards where Mr. Hollis and Laura were.
"Carmilla, please stop!"
"What makes you think I want to stop?"
Carmilla looked at Laura and then to her father. It was his fault that she was driven from the town, not hers.
"Let your daughter go and I'll spare your life."
"What makes you think I fear you?"
"You should."
Carmilla was now in front of Mr. Hollis and he felt terror as she looked at him.
"Release your daughter, now!"
Mr. Hollis let Laura go and shoved her at Carmilla. The coward of a man was running into his home and had abandoned the daughter he so loved.
Laura remained where she was and watched Carmilla carefully before approaching her. She was wiping the blood off of Carmilla's mouth with a handkerchief that she had in her pocket. She even wiped the blood from Carmilla's fangs. As she did this, she had a gash appear on her hand and Carmilla licked her hand. By doing this, it caused her hand to heal.
"What's this? Magic?"
"No, it's a special ability that vampires have. Our blood or saliva can heal humans, but not other vampires."
"You're injured, Carmilla."
"I'll be alright."
"Let me tend to your wound and decide if you'll be alright."
"Please, don't. Your father is right."
"What?"
"You belong here, away from me."
"And what makes you think you can make that decision for me?"
Carmilla sighed, "You'll be hunted alongside me."
"I don't care, I love you."
"You're too young to know what love is!"
"And you're not?"
Carmilla was holding Laura's face in between her hands and kissed her, with her fangs retracted.
"I love you and that's why I'm letting you go."
After their kiss, Laura looked up and saw that the sun was coming up. Carmilla didn't have a cloak on at all, so she was vulnerable to the sun. Laura ran into her home, grabbed a cloak off a coat rack and gave it to Carmilla.
"Here, you'll need this for when the sun comes up. I don't want to leave you."
Carmilla was about to say something, but Laura put her hand in Carmilla's.
"I'm ready to leave."
Carmilla nodded and they walked into the distance, not knowing where either of them would end up. All they had was each other and for them, that was enough.
