Chapter 5: Someone Like You
The next morning, the Sully dwelling:
Lo'ak woke up and realized he was not with Reya. He looked around and he was home with his parents and sister. That was some dream, he thought, but then he remembered his father's story of how his dreams led him to his mother and their lives together. The feelings in the dream were still there reminding him of a love he wanted badly that he ached from the feelings in the dream. I need to tell her again how I feel. She must know my feelings are real. She will know that none of it was a dream but real, oh yes, it's real. He thought.
Meanwhile, Reya woke up and looked around confused for a minute. Only a dream, she thought, but it must mean something, as if Eywa wanted them to know the truth, that they were destined to be together always and forever. She will tell him again and soon, very soon.
In his home with his family, Lo'ak feels as if he didn't speak to Reya about the dream, but at this point, he wasn't sure how to bring it up. He had a feeling she may have shared the dream. He knew it felt ridiculous to feel this way, but he couldn't think of anything else. He felt awful about his decision to pull away from her in the past, but everything has changed. They're older now, they kissed multiple times, and their feelings were revealed. But after what happened at the base, how they were almost killed, he needed to clear the air between them.
He thought of the rescue, but his father told him the ash people were surely out for revenge against the humans and Quaritch' actions after meeting him years ago. The seriousness of the situation wasn't lost on his family and they would prepare themselves as best they could for another attack if it happened.
Reya's feelings about the hostiles were sad and upsetting. He would never push her to reveal anything about herself; it was her decision and hers alone. But pursuing his attraction can't be stopped, he had tried but the dream happened. It became clear that they were fated to try and make it work between them. He wanted her more than anything so he decided to do it now. He was about to leave when his mother walked in.
"Oh, Lo'ak you're here. Were you going to speak to Reya?" Neytiri asked but she knew.
"Yes, but it can wait for a minute. How was your meeting with our friends about what happened at the base, any news?"
"Nothing yet and we haven't heard anything about the rescue either since we returned. How's Reya; did you two have a chance to talk last night?"
"Yes, we talked briefly but… she confessed her feelings and I did the same. Our feelings are there and we're happy we finally said it."
"Oh, honey, it's not a surprise how you two have become close, but we may have a problem."
"What is it?"
"Let us sit down for a minute." She sighed. "Your father and I talked last night and we may need to leave our home. He wants to escape the conflict with the hostiles that could escalate into a war. We could be caught in the middle and we don't want anyone else to be hurt."
Stunned for a minute, not believing it; he stood up and walked. "Are you serious, we're leaving?"
"No, honey, we haven't decided yet, but we need to find out more about what happened at the base. They were serious about hurting all of us and we had no other choice but to fight and escape."
"Yes, I know when we arrived to rescue you, it became clear what they wanted, to hurt us, no matter who got in their way."
"They made it clear about that and your father and I have a decision to make. The family together will make this decision."
He couldn't believe this was happening. "Mother, I can't leave here; I can't leave Reya; I can't do it." His eyes watered by even the thought of it.
"Oh, sweetie, I'm sorry, but she's old enough to decide where she wants to live and with whom. It's her choice."
"Yes, we're both 21 and we have choices to make." He had a thought. "I can't ask her to leave her family." Then he remembered the dream. We both wanted it to be real, but was it only a dream? He wondered.
A minute later, Jake and Tuk walked in. "We're back." He watched them closely. "Is anything wrong?"
"Welcome home. We were discussing what we talked about last night," Neytiri replied and gave him a look.
"Lo'ak come with me and we can talk," Jake said. "Tuk, thanks for riding with me. I'll see you later sweetie."
"Thanks Dad; can we do it again and soon?"
"Of course, we can; come and give your Dad a kiss goodbye."
"Bye Dad; Lo'ak, we'll see you both later."
"Bye honey, we won't be long," Jake said and kissed Neytiri's cheek.

Now outside, they walked further down the beach. "I know this is sudden but after what happened."
Now standing by a tree, he could see Reya and her mother cleaning garments.
Jake followed his gaze and he saw Reya. "You 'love' her don't you?"
"I'm sorry, Dad, but I can't leave her; I can't do it." He replied but the pain in his heart felt unbearable at the thought of leaving her.
"Lo'ak listen to me. We haven't decided what to do. I brought it up only because of what happened. We made it in time to save them, but it could happen again. We can't be with them every hour of the day, and I thought of some way to save our family and it's to move."
"But, Dad, we left the forest, our home for years and moved here, but we were still a target of people who wanted to hurt us. Running away won't change anything; they will find us again. Please think about this, please." He pleaded, a little embarrassed as he looked away watching Reya.
Jake thought of his words and my son is devastated by leaving, but he's right, wherever we go, we're a family and we have to stick together and that will save us, nothing else will.
"I hear your words and they are true. No matter where we go, we're family and nothing will ever change that. It doesn't matter where we live, we will be together always."
He felt relieved. "Are you going to think about it?"
"Yes, we'll think about it and we will decide what to do."
He went into his father's arms holding him then pulled away. "Thank you, Dad. Now, I need to see Reya." He smiled.
"Go on and tell her I said hello." He smiled.
"Yes, I will. I see you."
He smiled again. "I see you."
With a bright smile, he left his father staring after him.
Jake returned home to speak to his wife and what they should do to stay safe.

Reya looked up and saw him. She smiled. "Mother, can we finish this later?"
"Sure, go ahead." Ronal replied and watched her daughter run to meet her friend, a friend, but more? She wondered.
They stopped when they reached each other's side, he took her hand and they walked to their special spot and sat down.
"Reya, I need to tell you something."
"Hello to you too." She smiled but he did appear worried. "What is it?"
"First, how are you? Last night, I couldn't sleep thinking about you and how you were after what happened yesterday and our talk as well."
Still holding hands, she replied. "I feel okay, but I couldn't sleep either thinking of you. I meant every word. I see you and that will never change."
"I feel the same way, but Reya, I wanted to ask you a question." He paused to gather his thoughts. "Have you ever had a dream that you were sure it was real, but you were unable to wake up? How would you tell the difference whether it was real or only a dream?"
"Yes, it happened to me a long time ago, but why would you ask me that now?" She asked but she had a feeling.
"It felt real but I had to ask myself what's the difference between the real world and a dream? I know what's real. Our brain will give us signals how to see, to taste, to smell, to feel, and what we need. The dream is what we want in the real world, but we can't keep it because it's gone when we wake up." He paused. "I know it's a lot to think about, but it happened to me last night. It's when I finally fell asleep, I had a dream about us, you and me but it felt real."
"You had a dream about us? You will not believe this, but I had a dream about us as well. It felt real to me too and it continued for a while." She thought of the dream. "The dream ended but the feelings were still there as if it were real."
"Reya, I think we had the same dream last night." He shook his head. "I can't believe this. I thought when I woke up that you and I dream-shared, and you're right, the feelings in the dream are still with us."
She gasped. "You're serious, but how did that happen?"
"The only explanation is that Eywa brought us together not only in a dream but the real world too. She showed us the future; it was real." He looked at her face, but she did appear worried. "What are you thinking?"
"Lo'ak please don't tease me, but you believe that Eywa showed us the future by sharing a dream? I've never heard of it."
"Yes, it did happen." She needs to know the Sully history, he realized. "Let me explain about my family and how it began years ago. You see, you may not know this because of our five fingers that we're different. My father told us how they met."
"It's a long story. My father arrived on this planet as a human, a soldier for the RDA. His twin brother had died and he came here to complete his work as an Avatar. Humans would enter the program in a dream of Pandora and the Na'vi. That's when he met my mother, but the Na'vi didn't trust dreamers; that's what they called the Avatar program meaning humans as dreamers."
Intrigued, she said. "Go on, tell me the rest."
"After living in the dream world, my father felt torn between the real world and the dream world with my mother as Na'vi. Months later, they fell in love, he became one of them, and they were mated for life through Eywa. Then the war happened; they were separated, but Eywa helped them and my parents survived. After the war, he decided to leave the human world behind and he transformed through Eywa to remain as Na'vi, no longer in a dream world but it's real, mated for life, and they're together always."
"That's a beautiful story. Okay, I believe you; I'll tell you about my dream." She took a deep breath. "My dream began after we were mated for life through Eywa."
"Yes, I remember. Do you remember anything else?" It's true we dream-shared, he thought.
"We walked for a while and we kissed at our special spot… a lot."
He smiled remembering. "Indeed, we did and we enjoyed it too."
She ducked her head. "Yes, we did enjoy kissing."
He raised her chin. "You don't have to tell me the rest, but it's true we dream-shared."
"It sounds like a miracle, but I don't know what to do with the dream. Do we forget it ever happened or dwell on it until it becomes real? I'm confused but you think it's true that we dream-shared." She said trying to understand.
"Yes, we did, but no, we can't forget. It's a nice dream and it could be our future if we think about it now and then. Look, I'm confused as well, but other parts of the dream felt wonderful." He smiled at her expression and pulled her close. "We were destined to meet; I truly believe that, but we will have problems which reminds me, I need to tell you something."
She pulled away. "Is it bad news?" He did appear worried.
"Yes, my parents are thinking of moving." At her gasp, he continued. "You see, after the kidnapping and what happened at the base, they thought the war could escalate, and my father doesn't want anyone to be hurt. He thinks we should leave here to stay safe and find another home." Her eyes watered; he pulled her close. "I won't leave you, Reya, I won't do it."
She pulled away eyes shining. "Do you promise?"
"Yes, I promise."
They stared at each other with the same unreasonable thought of the dream world never ending. Then they kissed enjoying it, the same as in the dream. A moment later, they pulled away their foreheads touching.
"What are you thinking?" She asked.
"The same thing you are," he replied. Eyes closed and before they kissed again, someone cleared their throat.
Reya's mother is there. They stood up feeling awkward and worried. "Tsireya, you have chores."
"I'm coming," she said and followed her, but looked back and blew him a kiss. She at once froze while thinking of the dream. The bond happened but she would tell him and soon; it explains everything.
He caught it and touched his lips. "Bye," he whispered and watched her get back to her chores.
Walking back home, he thought of another song and the lyrics. Sometimes you have to have faith in what you feel; you know. Yes, I do have faith but I need to convince my parents to stay. He thought of his love and their future together.

Meanwhile, the FNB:
Colonel Ardmore and his assistant Varang were talking about their next move. The plan to bait Sully didn't work but they had no one to blame but themselves.
"There must be another way to bring the Sully family over to our side. Sully felt threatened and he was right. We should not have kidnapped and threatened his family. We didn't get the chance to tell him our plan to take over to destroy the humans and convince them to leave," Colonel Ardmore said.
"Look, I entered their clan weeks ago without any problem because I look like them and they don't know me. You're a recom and it's obvious you do not belong with them. We need to work on another plan and no more kidnapping and threats to hurt them," Varang said.
"You're right, no more threats and kidnapping. Look, I was thinking of his sons they could be open to our plan, especially Spider, I remember him. He's human and he could be turned."
"No, he can't be turned. I saw him with them, but he's Na'vi now like them."
"What, when was this?"
"A few years ago; he won't help us. He was with them during the rescue; I saw him."
She touched her chin thinking and she inwardly sighed. Yes, I do remember seeing him as well.
"Do you have a plan or not?" Varang asked impatiently.
"Give me a minute," she replied and walked over to the bridge exit and stepped outside. She looked up at the sky and thought of seeing Toruk Makto for the first time. She believed he was only a myth, a legend, but when she saw him flying with Sully, those images would not leave her alone.
Varang walked over to her. "What are you thinking?"
She turned to face her. "Toruk Makto, that he's real and he flew with Sully. Our plans will need to be forgotten for now. Our warriors didn't have a chance after he arrived flying like a spirit come to destroy us and that's what happened. If he comes back, we won't be able to stop him or Sully."
"You sound like you've given up because of a flying bird," Varang said, but she could not believe it.
"He's not only a bird; it's over. After the battle, the remaining warriors are terrified and they won't continue fighting; it's a lost cause."
Varang listened and she had a thought. "The only solution is to kill Sully then everything will fall into place. He can't ride him if he's dead."
"Now you sound like Quaritch; those were his exact words and look what happened to him."
Varang had a thought. Eywa has blessed Sully with her power. "You could be right."
"Call a meeting with the remaining warriors and I'll contact the other RDA base and we can end this conflict." She made the call and she could hear celebrations in the background.
Varang heard it and whispered aloud. "Peace doesn't sound that bad."

A little while later, the Sully dwelling:
Lo'ak returned to his family home and everyone was celebrating; the news had traveled like wildfire. "What's going on?"
"We have good news," Jake replied.
"Okay, what is it?"
"A few minutes ago, we heard from Norm and the conflict has ended."
"Are you sure, then we can stay?" He felt overjoyed at the news.
"Yes, we're staying," Jake replied happy to see his face and how happy he appeared. "It's the right thing to do and after speaking to your mother, she wants to stay as well." He glanced at Neytiri with a happy smile. "Now we celebrate and we can live in peace."
"Yes, peace; I'm here for it," Lo'ak agreed. "You guys contact Kiri and Spider and I'll tell Reya and her family."
"Go ahead," Neytiri said and watched him leave.
Jake pulled his wife close and kissed her sweetly enjoying it.
"Yuck," Tuk said and made a face.
They pulled apart and smiled at their daughter. "Aren't you happy the war is over?"
"Yes, but kissing is strange," Tuk replied.
"Give us a kiss," Jake said and chased her around the room. He caught her easily and kissed her cheek.
"Okay, Dad, I get it."
He ruffled her hair; it's longer now reaching her shoulder. "I love you sweetie."
"I see you, Dad."
"I see you, Tuk," Jake said.
~o~o~
Kiri and Spider received the news, then she turned to her husband. "I have wonderful news for you." Kiri pulled him closer and whispered in his ear. His eyes went wide, then picked her up twirling her around, then set her down and kissed her deeply, excited and truly blessed.
Lo'ak stopped by the Socorro home and Kiri and Spider had received a call from her father minutes ago that the war was over. They continued to celebrate in their own unique way.
Now, Lo'ak headed to see Reya and her family; he couldn't wait to see her. He entered the house and they were celebrating.
"Hey, you know?" He asked Reya.
"Yes, we heard minutes ago; it's wonderful news."
"Yes, it is. Can we talk?"
"Sure, Dad, Mom, I'll be right back."
"Okay, don't be long," Ronal said. "They're serious, aren't they?" She asked her husband.
"Yes, but it's been going on for a long while well since they met on the beach years ago."
"Yes, I saw it too but they were so young back then, but they're older and… they do appear ready for whatever comes next."
He pulled her close and touched foreheads. "I'm happy for them," Ronal said.
"Me too," Tonowari agreed.
~o~o~
Meanwhile, Lo'ak and Reya are walking trying hard not to kiss but it's useless.
"Come here," he said and they kissed deeply enjoying it.
After a minute, they pulled apart and he touched her cheek. "We're not moving."
Her eyes watered. "I'm so happy."
"Me too."
They kissed again then they stopped and sat down at their special spot.
"Now, before we continue kissing, I need to say something," Lo'ak said.
"What is it?"
"We should talk about us and our future," Lo'ak began.
"Our future is us together in every way," she said.
His heart pounded. "Do you mean?" He stopped when she touched his lips.
"Yes, we should become a mated pair as soon as possible." She smiled at his look.
He smiled in return. "I thought the exact same thing." He leaned over and kissed her; she kissed him back.
After a minute, she pulled away but she had to tell him. "Lo'ak I remember something that happened in the dream." She leaned in and whispered in his ear then his eyes went wide.
"Did I hear that right; we did the bond in the dream?" He asked stunned.
"Yes, it's true, but we both didn't realize it at the time, but it happened. Do you remember it now?"
"Yes, I remember but it's still a dream, not real. We talked about this."
"I know, then we can't tell our parents about it?"
"No, they won't believe it, and it's our secret for now. The fact that we both remember; it's enough."
"It's our secret to remember."
They both smiled, content with their future together. The dream is real where it matters; their hearts are one as they should be.
The end.
