A blue turtle-like pokemon suddenly appeared out of a bright, white light.
"Hey Squirtle!" Makuson greeted him.
"Squirtle!" Squirtle said. Makuson looked towards a bush and noticed something moving around in it.

"Squirtle, I think there's something moving around in those bushes..." Makuson whispered to Squirtle.

"Squirtle.." Squirtle said with his voice just as low as Makuson's.

"Well, there's one way to find out... watergun!" Makuson commanded. Squirtle shot water into the bushes. It was a direct hit! Makuson and Squirtle cautiously walked up to the bush to see what it was.

"Hey, who's that pokemon?" Makuson asked himself. He pulled out his pokedex and examined it.

"Geodude, the rock pokemon. This pokemon is known for its great strength. They are mostly found in caves," the pokedex said in a computerish voice.

"A Geodude? I'll catch it!" Makuson said. He threw a pokeball at Geodude.

"Go Pokeball!" Makuson yelled. The pokeball shook again and again, and then it clicked.

"YES! We caught a Geodude!" Makuson yelled happily.

"Squirtle Squirt!" Squirtle said in joy.

"Are you a trainer?" a voice asked from behind Makuson.

"Did you say something Squirtle?" Makuson asked Squirtle.

"Squirtle Squirt" Squirtle said shaking his head.

"IT WAS ME!" the trainer yelled.

"Oh," Makuson said.

"By the looks of that pokeball in your hand, I'd say you're a trainer," the trainer remarked.

"Yup, one of the best!" Makuson bragged.

"I seriously doubt that," the trainer snorted.

"Well, there's one way to find out. Let's battle!" Makuson challenged. The battle then began.

"Go Charmander!" the trainer ordered.

"Go Squirtle!" Makuson commanded Squirtle.

"Charmander, Tackle attack!" the trainer shouted.

"Squirtle, dodge and use water gun!" Makuson commanded. Charmander began to run at the Squirtle with great speed. When it finally reached him, Squirtle jumped out of the way and dodged the attack. He proceeded to shoot a watergun at Charmander, almost extinguishing its tail's fire.

"Uh oh!" the trainer said. Charmander began to worry.

"Squirtle, finish it with a Headbutt Attack!" Makuson ordered.

"Squirtle!" Squirtle said. He began to run towards Charmander. When he was about two feet away, he went into his shell leaving his head out of one of the holes. He hit Charmander head on. Charmander abruptly fainted.

"Yea! You did it Squirtle!" Makuson cheered.

"Squirtle Squirtle!" Squirtle bragged

"This isn't the last of me!" the trainer yelled. He threw out five more pokeballs all at once.

"GO!" he screamed.

"HEY! SIX ON ONE ISN'T FAIR!" Makuson complained.

"Who cares? I'll still win," The trainer sneered.

"Not really," a voice said from behind Makuson.

"Go Ninetales!" the trainer yelled.

"Use Flamethrower," the trainer ordered. Ninetales shot a flamethrower straight at the other trainer and hit him head on. The impact of the flames caused the trainer and all of his pokemon to go flying.

"Thanks," Makuson said.

"No problem," the trainer responded.

"By the way, my name is Matt. Nice to meet you," Matt smiled.

"And I'm Makuson," Makuson said. Matt had a black undershirt with long jeans. He had short brown hair, a black belt, and was a little taller than Makuson and just as skinny.

"Man, that Ninetales is strong," Makuson commented.

"Ninetales!" Ninetales exclaimed.

"Ninetales, return!" Matt ordered.

"Mind if I join you on your journey?" Matt asked.

"Sure, it would be nice to have some company," Makuson replied.

"My journey began a few days ago, and I found that Ninetales lying injured on the ground. My guess is that it was abandoned by someone," Matt said with a bit of disgust in his voice.

"Who would abandon a pokemon as good as that one?" Makuson asked, concerned.

"I think it was that damn Team Rocket," Matt said angrily. Makuson wanted to know more about Team Rocket, but decided it was best not to ask right now.

"How many pokemon do you have?" Makuson asked Matt.

"Right now, I have two. The Ninetales you just saw and my Bulbasaur.

"Then, you're from Pallet Town?" Makuson asked.

"Yup," Matt responded.

"Want to battle, one on one?" Makuson asked.

"Sure," Matt said.

"Go Squirtle!" Makuson said. Squirtle walked up to Makuson and stared at Matt.

"Then I'll choose Bulbasaur," Matt said. He threw a pokeball in the air, and a bulbasaur appeared out of a bright, white light.

"Bulbasaur, Go!" Matt said.

"Squirtle, Headbutt attack!" Makuson ordered. Squirtle prepared a headbutt and headed towards Bulbasaur.

"Dodge it," Matt ordered. Bulbasaur jumped over squirtle.

"Now use Vinewhip," Matt said. Vinewhip hit Squirtle continuously until Squirtle jumped out of the way.

"Squirtle, Watergun!" Makuson ordered. Squirtle launched water at Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur smiled as it was hit.

"Bulbasaur is a plant, water just helps it." Matt said confidently.

"Bulbasaur, Vinewhip," Matt commanded. Bulbasaur launched a vinewhip attack. As it hit Squirtle, Squirtle fainted.

"Aww man!" Makuson complained.

"Return!" Makuson and Matt said in unison. Two red lights appeared and took the two pokemon into their pokeballs.

"So shall we get going to Pewter City? I have to earn my first badge there," Matt said.

"Me too," Makuson answered.

"Then I guess we'll both have to challenge him," Matt announced.

"Let's get going!" Makuson said, running in the direction of Pewter City.

"WAIT UP!" Matt screamed, chasing after Makuson.
