"So this rich boy Dylan Gould offered you some highly suspicious job and thinks he can somehow convince you to work with him?" Wheelie asked after Saphira told him and Brains what had happened at the café earlier. She was sitting at the kitchen counter on her laptop with the two scrap bots on the bench. "Sheesh! And I thought that decepticons would have picked a smarter human. They fragging messed up."
"I could do a lot of digging for you, Mrs Prime," Brains suggested, rubbing his hands together. "We could do some real damage to this man's company and make him useless to the decepticons."
"I think it would be best to not let them know we are onto them, Brains" Saphira responded with a smile. She was currently doing some research of Dylan's company to find out more about him, and how it was founded. "The decepticons are playing the bait game. Two can play the same game."
"And you are going to bait him in with some fancy driving, huh?" Wheelie asked with a grin. She nodded affirmatively. "You are a brave woman, Saphira. Are you going to be telling Optimus about this?"
"Eventually. I want to get more evidence while I can." Brains and Wheelie were both still smiling as they listened to her. "I do not know if this could potentially be dangerous though. A decepticon could be close by with him."
"There hasn't been anything unusual so far. So I think you are good. But do you want us to help you?" Wheelie rolled over to Saphira's laptop and saw she had the webpage of Hotchkiss Gould Investments up. "We can be your wingman while you go in."
"We would need to be careful if I do accept your help," Saphira said to the two scrap bots gently. "I could probably have an ear piece for you to listen in on what Dylan says to me when I see him at the car show on a few weeks. That gives us a bit of time to plan."
"It certainly does. But I do think it could go wrong if Optimus isn't informed, of course you are his sparkmate and can tell him what you want…" She smirked at Brains as he spoke to her. "If a decepticon is hiding their signal or is somehow cloaking their energon signatures we should think on a plan. Other than driving fast."
"I can give you a map of the area where the car show is going to be," Saphira offered.
"No need." Brains shakes his head and lifts his hands slightly. "You know I can download that information directly. You don't need to do that."
"Good." She looked back at the screen to do more research. "Seems like his company funded the moon landing many years ago." She hummed a little as she knew Barricade had been warning them about something on the moon. "Are you sure the cons never said anything to you about something on the moon?"
"I only know that the plan about Sentinel was a plan that has almost failed, from what I overheard from the other cons," Wheelie said as he thought back to what had been happening in his life when he worked with the decepticons. "What about you Brains?"
"Uggghhh…not really. I only know that there was some plan on the moon, but I don't know the actual details." Brains smirked slightly and tapped his head lightly. "Even though I have always been smart and useful to the cons, they never felt like that I should know a lot of information. So I wasn't told much at all."
Saphira sighed a little as she thought about trying to reach out the Barricade. It has been a few months since she had seen him. She couldn't just waltz up to the NEST base though without a good reason. Unless she got invited or had information, she wasn't allowed at the base. It sucked because she didn't like the arrangement, even if she could still see the bots.
"I guess we can see if we can get Barricade to come and talk to you," Wheelie offered. "He did not go with Optimus to Ukraine on this mission, he's still currently at the base."
Saphira smiled as that would be nice. But it was a long shot as she knew that the autobots were on a tight leash. "You could try, Wheelie. Though I think I want to learn a bit more before we try and ask for Barricade."
"I guess that is fine." Wheelie shrugged and rolled away from her for a moment. "I am sure you will get a few questions now since you did say you were going to return to Texas in a few days, and you've decided to remain behind."
"I am counting on it, if I am honest. The fact that I'm staying means I'm onto something…hopefully they will realize that. Besides, I think Optimus's mission is a short one, so I'm hoping I won't have to leave and come back within a short amount of time." Saphira did know that it was a long shot for NEST to notice she had remained in the city, but over the last year she would head back to Texas a few days after spending time with the autobots. The fact she won't do that this time should raise questions. "In the mean time, what do you think we should do?"
"We could watch Star Trek," Brains suggested with a big smile. Saphira smiled at him for his suggestion, even though she herself didn't like the show. "Just kidding. Wheelie and I are only here for a couple days with you until someone comes and picks us up. We aren't going to be here long, so maybe we should do our own investigations."
"I will admit, I have felt like I've been followed or being watched when I have been out shopping the last week here in the city…" Saphira tapped her finger thoughtfully. "Maybe a small camera and an ear piece would be good too."
"Hmm…it could still be Dylan watching you," Wheelie suggests.
She shakes her head. "It would not be him. He's a wealthy person with lots of work to deal with. I can't really imagine he would. But…that wouldn't stop him sending someone to keep a close eye on me."
"That's definitely something we should be worried about." Brains rubbed his chin before gasping as he seemed to have a lightbulb moment. "Do you have a spare camera? I'll need to make simple modifications if we are to help you figure out who is spying on you."
Saphira was curious on what his idea was. "I do. Give me a second." She stood up and walked away from the scrap bots to get the spare camera she owned. She only had it because she liked going to all the nearby parks to film the birds and landscape. She brought the camera over to Brains after finding it. "Here you go. I'm afraid it isn't very small."
Brains took the camera and smiled at her. "It doesn't need to be for me to do some fancy modifications to it. Since we are going outside the rules we were given by Mearing."
"What rules?" Saphira asked curiously. "I was never told any rules regarding you."
"Ah, that woman wanted us to keep it a secret," Brains explained as he sat down and began to open up the recorder. "She didn't want us scrap bots to try and involve you in any kind of military business. But since you are having potential issues and danger, I think those rules don't apply."
"I think the rules are stupid. We aren't going to just sit around and let things happen just because we are small and don't have any weapons." Wheelie watched as his friend pulled apart the camera and looked at Saphira. "I think Director Mearing is still a great woman. She is much easier to talk to than that Galloway guy ever was. And she has actual respect for us transformers."
"But that doesn't stop her from making stupid, obvious suggestions that only a human can make. It is not like that she can actually stop us from doing anything. We only play along to not be prohibited from seeing you." Brains pulled the lens of the camera off and began to work on making it something a little different. "But it is nice to actually do something. Most of the time, we aren't doing much other than give some scientific information for the humans who need it. It isn't really that grand."
"Yeah, we are still treated like scrap. But at least we aren't being threatened with death." Wheelie rolled over to Saphira's laptop. "Maybe I can hack the city cameras to see if I can find whoever might have been following you."
"That's not a good idea. My laptop could get pinged by the government. I would need to buy another laptop and set it up so I can have some protection on it to prevent anyone from noticing any strange activity going on." Wheelie seemed surprised by Saphira's reluctance, but he didn't question her either. "It was a good thought though, Wheelie. We will have a better chance if you rig me up with some tech."
"Saphira's right, Wheelie, we don't wanna get ourselves caught." Brains looked up at Saphira. "This might take a little while to do, so you can go and do something if you want, Saphira. We also shouldn't just let you go waltzing around the city without something to keep a watchful eye of your surroundings."
Saphira smiled at Brains before looking at Wheelie. "I guess that means you can help me with something." The bot smiled as Saphira stopped her research and changed the website over to a used car dealership. "I was thinking of maybe adding to my collection of cars. I was thinking a Daytona, 1999 Mustang or a Porsche. What do you think?"
"Those a great choices." Wheelie looked at the screen with keen curiosity. "Ah, yeah, very nice choices." Wheelie scrolled through the webpage curiously. "Oh, there's a section for trucks." He looks at Saphira with a cocky grin. "Why not get an old peterbilt and model it after your sparkmate?"
"It's not the same as having Optimus around, Wheelie," Saphira said softly. "I think Optimus wouldn't mind if I did do that, but I definitely prefer to have him around than something that isn't alive."
"Nothing like a transformer." She nodded in agreement as Wheelie scrolled through. "I see why you like the Daytonas, Saphira. They look fine as hell." He looked back at with a wider smile. "You might find some at the car show."
"Probably, but I am not going there to buy a car…even if I might end up doing just that. I am going there to find Dylan again and challenge him to a car race. At least, if I win, I can probably can his stupid behavior." Saphira looked at the website and smiled. "I'll probably get a Daytona. But I'll wait until I can get back to Texas, so I'll be there to take delivery of the vehicle."
"Marvellous choice!" Wheelie rubbed his hands together. "Does this mean get to go through and choose a paint color and stickers to put on the car? Maybe a change of spoiler?"
She giggled softly at Wheelie. "To be honest, I'd love a dark purple Daytona. I've already got a color for it in mind, so I won't need your help for that." Saphira moved away from the counter and walked over to the window to gaze out of it as she needed to stretch her legs. "And I don't race anymore, Wheelie. It's nice that you want to look at stickers with me, but that's not necessary."
"Is it reserved for a special Prime?" The scrap bot teased and Saphira just scoffed in amusement. "I think I will just send the query to NEST now about letting Barricade visit. Even if it's not today, but at least in the next day or too."
"That would be extremely helpful, Wheelie." Saphira took a deep sigh and closed her eyes, trying to reach out to Optimus through the bond. She smiled when she felt his love in response. She needed to feel that comfort from him.
She already missed him terribly. She and Optimus were planning a way to allow him and the autobots to no longer be under government jurisdiction, but they didn't know how just yet. She had worried about what would happen if she were to end up pregnant. She knew that things would change substantially, and she'd want Optimus there with her for support.
"What do you think we should do tonight, Saphira?" Wheelie asked curiously taking her attention away from her thoughts. "Since you plan on staying longer, will you need to stock up extra food?"
"Oh, yeah…" Saphira turned in surprise as she realized that. "Ugh, now I have a reason to leave the apartment again." She looked at Brains as he was still tinkering away. "Do you think that can be ready when I go out?"
"Of course! It is only just after noon," Brains responded without looking up. He had attached the lens to some wirings and was working with much smaller pieces. "If you can hold off grocery shopping for a little bit longer, I should have this baby all done for ya."
"Good. At least maybe we can get shots of whoever is following me. Especially since it has only started recently." Saphira would be surprised if this person was someone she knew. "Will you both keep this to yourselves?"
Wheelie nodded. "I promise on my spark that we will not tell NEST about this. But the only problem is that when we do go back to the base, there's a chance we cannot help you. We might be found out, unless Brains can ensure that we aren't."
"I agree on that. Security has tightened a lot and technology has improved a lot, so I imagine it would be more difficult. But you are from Cybertron."
"Yes, but we are using human technology," Brains argued with a light grumble. "It isn't exactly on the same level as what you would find on Cybertron, on no. This stuff is considered ancient compared to the technology we are used to." He lifts up the lens for a moment as he studied it closely. "Hmm, this might take an hour or so do. Maybe write up a list or something to go shopping, Saphira."
Wheelie nodded in agreement before jumping off the counter and rolling over to the window. "I wonder if it is even possible you have someone spying on ya right now. This might be a mighty fine apartment building, but there are several apartments around this one. And there's a few that had direct line of sight to this apartment."
"I haven't even thought of that." Saphira looked at the window before suddenly feeling uncomfortable. "Oh…and both Optimus and I have walked around in the apartment naked and in all of our glory…" She groaned a little as she thought about that. "That's kind of embarrassing."
The scrap bot chuckled softly, turning his head with a sarcastic expression. "I wonder how many men and women were just simply staring at Optimus. We already know that his holoform has drawn many, many human eyes."
"I know." Saphira knew that Optimus ignored the glances as his spark and optics were only for her. But she still noticed the amount of people eyeing him off. Not that she blamed them. "It's just also embarrassing to think that others might have seen me naked too…and maybe the one who has also been…" She paused as a worried thought went through her mind. "I hope this isn't some deranged stalker."
"We will get to the bottom of this, Saphira. We promise to help you." The scrap bot rolled back over to her. "If things do look bad, we will need to inform NEST about it. There is no reason for them to ignore you if you are in danger."
"I know…I just kind of wish Barricade was here to talk to as well," Saphira said thoughtfully. She looked at Brains for a moment before typing on her laptop to check out some shop websites for groceries. "It will be nice to get his perspective."
"And I haven't gotten any response just yet to the request either. Too bad you and Prime can't communicate telepathically, that would make things quite easier for the both of you. Especially when issues like this arise." Wheelie shrugged and climbed back onto the counter. "But enough about that, what do you plan on getting?"
He shifted to lay on his stomach as he watched Saphira scroll through the online store. "As it is three weeks, roughly, until the car show…probably some rice dishes. Hmm…" She hummed a little to herself as she scrolled through the website. "I don't buy much when I come here, so there's pretty much nothing in the fridge and cupboard when I leave. The only thing I have right now is milk, bread, butter, small packets of cereal, pasta and a couple cans of tomato."
"Really?" Wheelie grimaced as he listened to her. "That doesn't seem like much. You have a lot of money, why not make a banquet?"
"Because I do not need one." Saphira changed to a recipe website to see what she might be interested in making. "But I also don't need to make something every, single day. That would be pretty annoying. I can easily make a big batch of food to last a week while I am here."
"You do still go to that café by the apartment, don't you?" Wheelie asked curiously, and Saphira nodded. "I guess you can kind of scratch off some of your list, unless you decide to make breakfast and lunch at home. I mean, I really don't think you should even be heading out of the apartment everyday."
"I was thinking that too. That would be kind of obvious. Just today and maybe tomorrow. I would like to go clothes shopping…and maybe get my hair done. It is looking like it needs some TLC, I'll have to see if a hair salon has an opening." Saphira grabbed her phone and began dialling a number. "I did find a hair salon here in Washington that I like, so I'll see what openings they got."
"Can't you just ask to be fit in?" Wheelie asked with a frown.
"No, not if they're booked up, and it would be extremely rude to demand they cancel someone just to fit me in. No amount of many can pay for good manners." Saphira put her phone to her ear. "Just keep yourselves quiet while I make the appointment."
Wheelie just shrugged and sat up before rolling over to Brains to assist him with creating a special camera. Saphira made sure to move away if the two got too loud when one of the hairdressers picked up to answer. She was happy when she was told there was an opening in two days and told the hairdresser what she wanted done to her hair. With that being done, Saphira likely would be heading out from the apartment over the course of three days instead of two.
Though that thought of potentially being spied upon from one of the apartment buildings across from hers was creepy. She wished that Wheelie did not have bring that up, because now she was feeling rather unsettled. She knew he might be wrong, and this stalker did not live nearby, but she could not help but feel worried. And with the balcony overlooking the city, she was almost too nervous to even want to make use of it. She often had her dinner outside to enjoy the fresh air starlight, but that was going to change.
Saphira spent a bit of time writing out a list of what she would buy on her phone after deciding on a couple recipes to make. Though she did make sure to slip in some junk food. She did enjoy having cookies and chips every now and then. Especially if she decides to binge while watching a movie or TV show. Saphira found that Optimus thoroughly enjoys watching Stargate. The idea of the show seemed to be of great interest to him, and he's enjoyed it so far. They have managed to reach midway of season three, and Saphira was looking forward to finishing the series with him.
"Alright!" Brains said cheerfully with a clap of his hands. "It is work just fine. I can connect to this little device with my system, and I cannot it to your laptop." He walked over to Saphira's laptop, transforming his fingers into a USB and connected with the port. Saphira watched as her screen changes, and she saw her ceiling room. Wheelie picked it up, and she saw the movement of the camera. "Working like fine wine."
She chuckled softly as she looked at Brains with a smile. "Great job, Brains. Now I can finally go and get them groceries." She stood up and gathered her bag and keys. "Where should I hide that little thing?"
"It can stick onto your purse…" Brains points to the arm strap, and Wheelie rolled over to connect it to the strap. He reached over to press something, and the device transformed to look like a silver button instead of a lens, but the camera was still rolling. "There we go. Now no one will know it's a little camera. Just make sure you don't shake it around too much, it is still fragile."
"Alright, got it." Saphira smiled at him and grabbed out her earpiece to put on. "You can communicate with me through this. Though if nothing really happens, don't worry about it. It will be nice to have two extra pair of eyes watching out for me."
"No worries, warrior goddess," Wheelie responded with a grin as Saphira walked to the door. "You have done a lot to save the lives of this planet, and you even made sure I was safe from the decepticons and humans. I owe you a lot, and we want you to be safe."
Saphira was happy to hear that from the bot. Even though Wheelie and Brains were annoying at times, they were actually really helpful. And having bots that weren't suspicious was actually a good thing. No one believes these little bots could do much, but they can. And Saphira knew it. Wheelie and Brains proved themselves to be worthy of an autobot title, even if they also annoy the other bots. She just hoped that they were on the right track.
She made her way to the elevator to head down to the car lot. As she stood in the elevator, she did wonder if Dylan had sent someone to watch her. It was actually explain why he knew she was at the café today. He wouldn't have approached her with Optimus by her side. Especially as he was somewhat flirtatious the first time they met, and Optimus would not have appreciated it at all. She didn't herself. But given he was one of the many people she was suspicious of having connections with decepticons, evidence was piling up it would seem.
Once she reached the car lot, she walked through the lot towards her black, Mercedes, C63 AMG and unlocked it with her key. She got into the car and drove out of the lot. So far, so good. She hummed softly to herself and tapped her fingers on the steering wheel as she drove through the city to a nearby supermarket. She did take a few glances at the side mirrors in case she would see anything suspicious. So far, nothing caught her attention. There were no cars that stood out to her at all.
Once she arrived, she got out of the car and made her way to the front door. But as she reached the entrance, she felt the hairs on her skin stand as she felt the sense of being watched again. She shivered a little. "I am being watched again," She said into her earpiece. "If you can pan the camera around, that would be nice."
"We hear you, Saphira," Brains responded gently from the other. "Tsk, tsk, tsk…I do not see anything yet. Maybe."
Saphira didn't like the maybe he said as she tried to ignore the feeling. She tried to not get nervous in case Optimus would sense and get alarmed, but she was aware she might not be able to control it. She grabbed a shopping cart to go through the store to gather the items she wanted. She went through the fresh section to get some apples, bananas, strawberries, celery, kale, carrots, beans and potatoes. She ended getting distracted from the idea of being followed as she continued shopping. It was way better than worrying about it.
She grabbed some cheeses and cold meat, deciding she would have a cheese and meat board at home. She couldn't have wine yet, but this would still be nice to have. Wheelie and Brains did not say anything to her at all. She was happy that they did not. She guessed that if there was any sign of danger, they would alert her to it. And since there was no danger, they would not need to alert it to her at this time. She did not want to panic in the middle of the supermarket and receive weird looks from other people.
After buying what she needed, she made her way back to the car to unload. She noticed again she was being watched, but that was because she was paying attention again, and she knew it. But there was still no warning from the two scrap bots, so she unloaded the groceries into her car before taking the cart to a bay. Once she was back in her car, she felt a sense of relief and turned on the car to leave the parking lot.
"So…I didn't hear any chatter from you guys," Saphira said with a slight sigh of relief. "I did feel I was being watched again in the car lot…um…did you guys get anything?"
"I think you should wait until you get home," Brains responded, and that did not make her relax at all. "Don't worry, there wasn't anything too crazy to see, but…you know, you might want to just come back and see for yourself."
That still did not make Saphira relax. Who was following her, and why? Was it another decepticon hired human? Was it someone working with Dylan? There was so many questions running through her head, and she hoped that this wouldn't turn ugly. But she already had the sense that it probably will, and she wasn't going to like it. Whatever the scrap bots were able to find, she wanted to know. And if it was serious enough, she would take it to NEST.
