First elimination chapter! I hope you guys enjoy, it's been a long time since I attempted a competition fic. Let me know what you think! Really apprecaite all the feedback so far.

"Welcome back to Total Drama Revamp!" Chris McLean beamed at the camera with a polished grin.

"Uh Chris, we didn't go anywhere…" Kahil pointed out.

"He's right, we've just been standing here for a few minutes in silence," Kayla said with a roll of her eyes.

"It's called showmanship," Chris snapped at them before turning back to the camera. "Here on episode two, we will be eliminating a contestant! Doesn't that just give you the warm fuzzies inside?"

No one reacted and Chris' eye twitched slightly, "Go to your respective team cabins and unwind for a minute before the challenge is set to begin."

Chuck murmured quietly, "I thought you said there was no time to unpack?"

"Yeah, well, I need some alone time. I forgot how aggravating teenagers can be," Chris huffed.

"I imagine it's difficult to remember what being a teen was like given that was, what, forty years ago for you?" Hoodie snickered.

"Go. To. Your. Cabins. Now!" Chris bellowed and the teens dispersed accordingly. When no one was looking, Chris allowed a single dramatic tear to roll down his cheek at the remembrance of his youth.

Confessional:

Lin: "So this is Total Drama? Grungy, disgusting, full of narcs," she pauses and then grins. "This is going to be so much fun."

AJ: "Dawn was right back in season 4. Chris didn't get enough love as a child. Nothing like my parents. They've always been so encouraging to me, even if I didn't always live up to the expectations they set. Hard to do that when your parents are world-class ghost hunters, you know? I'm winning this for them!"

Gnarly Narwhal Cabin: Girls

Olivia, Laura, Claudia, and Kayla entered the left side of their cabin, not sure what to expect. It was fairly cramped, with 3 sets of bunk beds along the walls. Paraphernalia of former Total Drama moments and contestants were hung up on the backwall, but there was plenty of space for the contestants to decorate if they chose to do so.

"Why are there six beds and only four of us?" Kayla asked.

"Perhaps Chris will engineer team swaps later in the game?" Laura said with a shrug.

"You're probably right. That bastard will do anything to 'keep the drama'," Kayla said, using air quotes.

"I think this is so exciting," Claudia remarked with a large intake of breath. "You can smell the lake in here."

"Yeah, and it smells terrible," Laura made a face. "Without my sight, my other senses can be a bit heightened."

"If you like, we can go searching for herbs and plants to spruce up the cabin and create new scents after the first challenge," Claudia offered kindly.

"Aren't you the painter girl?" Kayla asked Claudia, who nodded. "Think Chris would get ticked off if we painted graffiti on the cabin?"

Claudia considered this a moment, "I'm not sure it needs to be graffiti, but I see a canvas before me and an eager painting partner at my side. You bet we can paint something in here!"

Confessional:

Kayla: She gives a satisfied smirk, "That Claudia girl is alright. I'm all for anything rebellious and pissing off Chris is a high priority for me. He reminds me too much of my family life, what with his constant need to prattle off his authority. No thank you!"

Claudia: "I really think I bonded with Laura and Kayla already. Olivia didn't seem to want to say much, but I think she's just shy. I'm sure we'll all grow close as the competition progresses and we'll see her come out of her shell."

Olivia: She scribbles a few things in a small notebook and pushes her bangs out of her face, "My first confessional? It's a bit overwhelming so far, honestly. The others all want to sing kumbaya around the campfire, but they're all ignoring the reality of our situation. Only one of us gets to win. I have every intention of that someone being me."

Laura: She fiddles with a loose string on her trench coat before speaking, "We have a decent group, from what I can gather. Although Claudia might be too nice, bless her. I may be blind, but I am not here to get guided along by someone else. I'm here to compete and play one hell of a game."

Gnarly Narwhal Cabin: Boys

David, Kamari, and Wes entered the right side of the Narwhal cabin while Jay lingered outside the threshold. The interior looked more or less the same as the girls' side.

"This is going to be incredible!" David said, bounding over to one of the bunks and throwing himself onto the mattress.

"If by incredible you mean incredibly degrading, then sure," Wes grumbled as he purposefully put his stuff on a different bunk than David.

"It's a little small in here," Kamari said, looking slightly uncomfortable at the thought. "I'm kind of a big guy so I probably ought to get a bunk to myself."

"Not going to catch me arguing, dude," David said with a laugh before looking at the doorway. "Yo, Jay, you coming in?"

Jay looked a little hesitant before they entered. "Of course, just taking it all in."

Confessional:

Jay: They look awkwardly at the camera, "I'm non-binary, so I was never entirely sure how Chris was going to handle that regarding cabins. I have no problem being in the guys cabin, I just hope no one here is ignorant and obnoxious about it."

David: "That Kamari guy is huge! I mean, I'm a bigger guy myself, but that man could make a pancake out of me. Mm, pancakes…I'll have to make some for my new cabinmates soon!"

Kamari: "I'd almost prefer sleeping outside where it's nice and spacious, but I don't want to appear weak. I'm an aspiring professional wrestler who can crush anyone here, though I am conscious of my size and strength. I don't want to accidentally break the bunk bed and cause it to fall on someone. Not the kind of crushing I wanna do, you feel me?" He lets out a little chuckle before leaving the confessional.

Wes: "So Jay and David bunked together, Kamari got his own, and I got my own. I purposefully picked the one against the wall of the girls' room. The people on my team don't seem that smart, they won't realize I'm slowly drilling a hole into the girls' side so I can spy on them. Only for blackmail purposes of course, nothing too pervy," he gives an entirely unconvincing grin before the camera blacks out.

Sly Fox Cabin: Girls

Abigail, Lin, Hope and Casey entered the middle cabin and got to selecting beds. Lin quickly hopped onto one of the top bunks, and Abigail did the same to a different set. Casey looked between the pair of them, as if trying to decide, when Hope squeaked behind her.

"I'll be your bunk buddy! I mean if you want to!" Hope flushed and Casey raised an eyebrow.

"Fine, as long as you're not one of those 'overly nice' girls all the time," Casey shrugged and took the top bunk on the last set, with Hope taking the bottom.

"What do you think of the competitors so far?" Abigail asked Lin.

"Hard to judge until we've seen a few challenges," Lin shrugged. "I'd say we have a reasonably good team though."

"I'm so excited you guys, you don't even know," Hope babbled happily. "Think it'll be anything like a real summer camp? Like between challenges we can do camp activities and stuff?"

"I don't know, go ask the camp counselor Jay," Casey said with a roll of her eyes.

"That's a great idea, I'll ask them some time!" Hope grinned.

Confessional:

Casey: She gives an irritable look at the camera, "Yeah…that Hope girl is going to get on my nerves, I can already sense it. No matter, she won't last very long. Abigail and Lin both look pretty capable, but I can't see any obvious strengths Hope has. And if I have to give a helping hand to get her eliminated…" she trails off ominously and the corners of her mouth twitch into a slight smirk.

Hope: She twiddles her thumbs and looks a little nervous, "I hope I made a good first impression on the girls! I think it'll be one of those things where it's awkward at first but by the end of the summer we'll all be really close. That's how I am, usually. I need to warm up and then I'm your best bud."

Lin: She is holding a small piece of wood in one hand and a carving knife in the other. She begins whittling and talking without looking at the camera, "I'm probably one of the few contestants who actually lives in the real world. Not in ivory tower settings or fairy tale fantasies. The real world is harsh and cruel, and this game will be no different. I'm prepared for it though."

Abigail: She is shown casually flexing, "See this? Strength. Power. Grit. That's how I'm going to win this thing. There are a few others who look strong, but I'm not worried. I've broken about every record at my school for damn near any athletic event. Total Drama will be child's play compared to that.

Sly Fox Cabin: Boys

Horace, Hoodie, Kahil and AJ were deciding sleeping arrangements on the boys side of the cabin. AJ had started unpacking a whole bunch of strange looking equipment the others had never seen before, whereas Hoodie was unpacking a suitcase that contained half a dozen identical purple…hoodies.

"What is all this? And if I touch it, will something bad happen to me?" Kahil asked AJ.

"Unlikely. They're mostly detectors of various kinds, searching for any paranormal activity. You heard Chris, there are ghosts on this island. Can't be too careful," AJ said as he whistled a tune to himself.

"Good thing you aren't possessed, eh?" Horace nudged Kahil.

"Great, now you've jinxed it. I'm definitely going to have a demon haunting me all season now," Kahil said, though he was grinning. Horace laughed, while AJ frowned.

"It's not funny to joke about it. I know so many stories about possession that would make you pee yourself if you heard them," AJ said matter-of-factly.

"We're shaking in our boots," Horace joked, and he and Kahil laughed together.

"Would you please keep your braying to a minimum?" Hoodie snapped as he taped a picture of another guy to the wall beside where he'd be sleeping.

"This your boyfriend?" Horace asked curiously.

"Are you always so nosy?" Hoodie asked, not looking at him. "But if you must know, yes. He goes by Sweatshirt."

Confessional:

Horace: "Hoodie and Sweatshirt?" He starts to laugh, "If they ever have a kid together will they name it 'Jacket'? Man, this cabin is wild between him and the ghost expert. At least I got Kahil though, he seems like a fun guy. I barely know the guy, but I can tell he's got a few demons. Not like the ones AJ's talking about, mind you. But maybe I can help Kahil while we're teammates? Hmm…"

Hoodie: "I'm used to the teasing and the ridicule. I should've expected it here as well. Everyone will pay for laughing at me all my life. Just you wait!"

Kahil: He is seen twirling Horace's pocket watch. He then looks at the camera, "What? Yeah I snatched it, it was way too easy. I'll give it back to him, eventually. He seems like a cool guy, I just happen to have a tendency for collecting shiny, valuable trinkets. What's the problem with that?" He grins and accidentally smacks himself in the face with the watch. "Ow! Son of a –"

AJ: He frowns, "I'm not digging all the teasing honestly. I've grown up with bullies all my life and no way do I want to deal with it here. Sure, I'm a bit geeky, but nothing I do is without reason. It's always good to be prepared instead of just letting things happen, right?"

Self-Absorbed Sponge Cabin: Girls

Jackie, Belladonna, Saffron and Maddie were quick to take in their surroundings and lay claim to beds.

"Top bunk, called it," Jackie took the one closest to the door.

"Oh my gosh, Bea, we should totally be bunk buddies!" Maddie exclaimed excitedly. "Your fashion is literally so incredible!"

"You think so?" Bea asked and let out a nervous giggle. "You definitely have an eye for aesthetic too."

"There is no way I'm bunking with Mary Kate and Ashley over there," Saffron fake gagged as she listened to their conversation.

"So take a different bed, there's three sets," Jackie said through grit teeth.

"Gladly," Saffron replied and delicately placed her luggage beside the remaining set.

Confessional

Saffron: She tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear, "It's just my luck I end up on a team with the most stereotypical girls ever. Maddie is trying too hard; I don't trust her whatsoever. And Bea seems like your basic high school white girl who just wants to be accepted. Boring! Luckily this show has me to rely on because I'm…different."

Jackie: She clenches a fist in frustration, "Okay, I don't like Saffron, like at all, but Maddie and Bea were going on and on for what felt like hours! I'm glad they're getting along because cohesiveness is the key to a strong team, but my goodness they need to tone it down. I don't know how many times I'm going to be able to put up with it."

Belladonna: She twirls a strand of her hair, "Maddie is so nice. Jackie seems okay, I guess. Saffron is probably going to be my least favorite, but I don't think anyone likes her much. I can't figure her out though. She is actually a very pretty girl, but her outfit choices are just all wrong. Maybe I can bond with her through clothing?"

Maddie: "Wow my first confessional! What is up Mad Fads? Your girl is definitely in a good position to win this whole contest! Kill 'em with kindness, you know? That's what I always say. We've got some fierce competitors on this team too, I can feel it. I'm looking forward to the first challenge!"

~End Confessional~

Self-Absorbed Sponge Cabin: Boys

Maverick, Chuck, Declan and Ken entered the final cabin on the right side and got to talking before the big game began.

"Did you guys see the girls on our team? They are all smoking!" Ken exclaimed with a sly grin.

"You probably don't want to get into a relationship on this show. They always ruin everything," Declan said pessimistically. "Remember the love triangle fiasco?"

"Nope, must've missed those episodes," Maverick said while he stretched.

"Um, what are you doing?" Ken asked, though he definitely watched with some interest as Maverick's muscles strained.

"Getting ready for the competition. Isn't that what we should all be doing?" Maverick said, not glancing around at the others while he continued his pre-workout.

"Everyone on the team looks pretty strong if I'm honest. But getting limbered up wouldn't be the worst thing," Ken agreed and joined Maverick. Soon all four of them were stretching, which looked somewhat ridiculous from an outsider's perspective. Luckily, the only people who could see them was the entire viewing audience.

Confessional:

Declan: He scribbles a few things down in his journal and narrates, "TDR Entry 2-1: All teammates seem friendly-ish and strong. The guys seem like we'll get along, which is great. Hopefully Maverick isn't just a jock and is actually nice too."

Maverick: "I'm going for the gold for my little sister back home! We've had it pretty tough lately, honestly, but this can change that! But I'm not making it very far unless my team performs well. I have good experience working in teams. Preparing for the Olympics means you have to put yourself in constant situations that can reasonably stimulate what the actual Olympics are like. By the time I'm done whipping my team into shape, we could easily win the Olympic bobsled race!"

Ken: "You know, I was upset initially at Chris' name for our team, but I'm thrilled at who we got. Literally everyone, guys and girls, are smoking hot on this team. Maddie especially, but I'm not going there. She's also a social media influencer but, and as much as it pains me to say this, it seems like she has a bigger following than me. I've got to make sure my time on this show nets me a bigger following than her. Down with the Mad Fads!"

Chuck: He lets loose a long sigh, "I used to be so much better at making friends, but after what happened…let's just say I like keeping to myself. I get nervous in new situations and everyone else seemed to bond right away. Good for them, I guess…"

~End Confessional~

By now, all twenty-four campers were walking towards the center of the island behind Chris, who was driving a luxurious golf cart. Chris seemed to take extra pleasure in revving the cart and spraying gravel at the campers foolish enough to walk closest to him.

Abigail spat mud and rocks out of her mouth and growled, "Watch it Mclean!"

"Not that mud and rocks aren't delicious," Jay said, wiping their face off, "but aren't we going to get actual food? Where's Chef Hatchet?"

"Chef has been helping with construction for the challenge. No time for cooking," Chris waved a dismissive hand.

"That's for the best. Chef makes horrible food," Kahil pointed out and the others mostly nodded in agreement.

"You might not want to say that around him, dude," Horace whispered in Kahil's ear. The Arabic boy shrugged.

"Are you going to tell us what the challenge is?" Maverick asked as he jogged alongside Chris' cart, managing to keep pace with it.

"Oh you'll find out soon enough. Hehehe," Chris started giggling as they came into a clearing. "Welcome to the Carnival Obstacle Course of Death!"

The campers stared at an obstacle course that looked hastily built with a carnival theme. Chef was seen greasing up planks overtop a fifteen-foot drop, but he quickly stopped when the campers arrived.

"Woah…that looks intense," David remarked.

"Campers, welcome to your first challenge!" Chris announced excitedly and rubbed his hands together. "Here's how it'll work. There are six obstacles on the course, and everyone must participate in the challenge. You must grab the carnival ticket at your respective juncture in order to proceed to the next obstacle. All teams will go at the same time and the first time to complete the entire relay will earn a special reward tonight."

There were some excited murmurings at that as Chris continued, "The last place team will be sending someone home tonight! And the second place team, well, congrats to you guys I guess? Now, on with the challenge! Up first we have the 'Tourist Punch Wall'. One contestant from each team must navigate through the long line of customers to get their ticket stamped so they may enter the carnival. The 'tourists' will be trying to punch you off the delicate platform and into the muddy water below!"

"Isn't this just like that show 'Wipeout'?" Lin asked, unimpressed.

"Shush!" Chris put a finger over her lips and she frowned. "Second will be the log plume jump of death! One contestant per team will jump from log to log that are fifteen feet in the air. Chef has so kindly lubed up the platform to make it greasy. Which will make it utterly hilarious watching you all fall into the water below. You must grab the ticket on the last log in order to proceed."

"This is actually insane," Chuck mumbled, though no one seemed to hear him.

"Third, no trip to the carnival is complete without a carousel! Of course, carousels are boring so we combined them with bumper cars to make: bumper horses! One contestant per team must get on their bumper horse and race through a twisty track of other horses and tourists, snag their ticket, and race to the finish line."

"Fourth, who doesn't love carnival games? You know, those incredibly tedious and super hard to win mini-games to win oversized stuffed animals and worthless trinkets?"

"What's wrong with trinkets?" Horace asked and Kahil put a comforting hand on his shoulder, while his other hand slipped the pocket watch into Horace's pocket.

Chris ignored him, "One contestant per team will be tasked with vanquishing the carnival game! Each team will get a choice between climbing up a ladder over an inflatable that is purposefully designed to test your balance and make you fall off repeatedly, or a dice game weighted heavily in favor of the dealer. When that teammate passes their respective test, they will be given the ticket to pass along to the teammates taking on part five: the haunted house!"

"Three members of each team must go into the haunted house, survive all the nasty frights and surprises we have in there, and locate the ticket to leave. While it is possible for only one teammate to grab the ticket and leave, you will be penalized if the whole team doesn't make it out."

"Wh-what sort of things are in the haunted house?" Declan stammered.

"Oh, you don't want to find out!" Chris grinned sadistically. "That takes us to the final part: climbing the 'Tower of Terror'."

"You do know that's already a thing, right?" Hope asked.

"Shh, Chris is talking," Wes said rudely and turned to Chris to give him his undivided attention.

"Thank you, Wes. Now, as I was saying, the final member of each team must climb this fifty-foot tower and reach the top, where the final ticket remains. Last team to the top loses. The good news is you each get to decide amongst yourselves which teammates take on which part of the challenge. You all get two minutes to strategize and then the real fun begins!"

Gnarly Narwhals:

"I want to do the punching wall!" Kamari volunteered as soon as the teams divided to talk strategy.

"You do look like the person who could take the most hits," Kayla agreed. "I'm happy to take the last challenge. I've got more than enough experience climbing out of my bedroom window to escape my parents for the night."

"I've taken more than my fair share during training," Kamari beamed at her. "Also you do realize your parents are probably watching, right?"

Kayla's face paled as she looked at the camera. Laura took the opportunity to speak up, "I'll do the dice game."

"Shouldn't you do the haunted house so others can be with you?" Wes pointed out.

Laura grinded her teeth, "No, I have experience—"

"Why don't Jay, Laura and I do the haunted house? I'll help Laura and Jay can use their, uh, counselor skills to lead us out of the house!" David suggested.

"Great, I guess I'm on bumper horses. Claudia you can do the dice game and…do we have another teammate?" Wes looked around confused.

"I-I'll do the log jump," Olivia said as the others realized she was there.

Confessional:

Laura: She grinds her teeth again, "Stupid Wes! With my background I would have been by far the best choice for the dice game! Whatever, I'll try and think of this as a blessing in disguise. Let them think I'm pathetic and helpless for now and demonstrate my real skills as the game progresses.

~End Confessional~

Sly Foxes:

"So, uh, how do we decide?" Hope looked around at her teammates.

"Well, we're definitely sending AJ into the haunted house. He's a ghost hunter after all," Horace said with a bit of a grin.

"Yeah…great," AJ's face actually looked a bit green at the prospect.

"I want to do the punching wall," Abigail said. "They punch me. I punch them. Simple."

"Shouldn't someone smaller do that and you take the climbing wall at the end?" Casey pointed out.

"No, someone smaller will just get punched into the mud. I'm doing it," Abigail said with a hint of challenge in her voice.

"Relax, let she-hulk do it. She's the one who can afford to lose the most brain cells," Hoodie pointed out with a bemused smirk. Abigail started chasing him and shouting profanities at him.

"I'll take the log jump, I'm pretty nimble," Lin volunteered, ignoring the drama around her.

"I'll handle the bumper horses and Kahil should take the dice game with his luck," Horace pointed out.

"What? You realize something horrible is going to happen now because you just said that!" Kahil groaned.

"If Abigail doesn't kill him, Hoodie and I can go with AJ into the haunted house. Which leaves Hope on the tower at the end," Casey proposed with a deviousness in her voice.

"Does that make the most sense? I'm not that strong…" Hope said, a bit embarrassed.

"You'll do great!" Casey promised.

Confessional:

Horace: He scrunches his eyebrows together, "You know, I think Kahil might take the jinxes thing a bit far." He put his hand in his pocket and pulled out his pocket watch. "Oh, there you are! I thought I lost you earlier."

Hope: She twirls her fingers in a nervous circle, "I guess I was just the leftover at the end, but I'm worried. I don't exactly have a lot of upper body strength for climbing."

Casey: "That was almost too easy. If we lose, it'll likely be because of Miss 'I'm So Nice' and she'll get voted off. Then I won't have to share a bunk with her. And before you ask, yes I am that petty."

~End Confessional~

Self-Absorbed Sponges:

"Alright people, here's how it's going to work!" Jackie and Maverick said at the exact same time before looking at each other in surprise.

"Sorry hun, I think I got the leadership role here," Jackie said with a little laugh.

"I'll let you have this one," Maverick bowed graciously. "I am nothing if not a good teammate."

"Thank you," Jackie said earnestly, not noticing that Ken had also looked interested in leading for the team. "Chuck, you may be quiet, but you seem strong. Can you handle the punching wall?"

Chuck gave her a silent nod and she continued, "I'm great at track and field so I'll handle the log jump. Maddie, you got bumper horses?"

"I got this!" Maddie flashed her two thumbs up.

"Saffron, can you handle the carnival game?" Jackie asked, expecting a stuck-up reply.

"No problem," Saffron said and looked at her nails, bored.

"Great," Jackie said tersely. "Declan, Ken, and Bea you three take the haunted house and we finish strong with Maverick on the tower. Any questions?"

Amazingly, no one felt the need to complain. Jackie smiled, "I think we might win this thing you guys!"

Confessional:

Jackie: She looks pleased, "You know, I expected that to be more of a fight. But everyone really seemed in the spirit of things, and we all are willing to play to our strengths. That's the kind of energy that will lead us to victory!"

Saffron: "I only would've complained if I'd gotten bumper horses, because I am not a horse girl! Naturally that Maddie girl is doing that challenge. She definitely gives horse girl vibes to me."

Maddie: "So I've never been around horses before, but these aren't real. And honestly, it's not really my thing, but whatever works for the team!"

~End Confessional~

"Are you maggots ready?" Chris screeched into a megaphone. The contestants had each taken their respective places along the obstacle course. Some looked more excited than others.

"Just get on with it, man," Chef mumbled beside him.

Chris shot him a questioning look, "Aren't you supposed to be in the haunted house to scare the kids?"

Chef's eyes widened in realization, and he sprinted out of sight. Chris, not wanting to break character for the cameras, grinned.

"Go!"

Kamari, Abigail, and Chuck all began making their way along the punching wall of tourists. Red rubber boxing gloves would shoot out from holes in the wall at unexpected intervals to try and knock them off and into the mud. One shot out and clocked Kamari right in the face. His teammates winced, but Kamari laughed, ducked the next punch, and threw one of his own back. That particular section of the wall began to malfunction after the force of Kamari's strike.

"You break it you buy it Kamari!" Chris warned through the megaphone. Kamari gave him a sheepish grin in response.

Abigail was making good time on her side, while Chuck was trailing at the back but making steady progress. Kamari initially held the lead but fell behind Abigail after his moment of revenge.

A glove shot out of the wall right at Chuck's throat. His eyes widened and he ducked, but not quick enough. He got hit right on the forehead and a large welt started forming immediately. He flailed for a moment and his team held their breath, but he did not fall into the mud.

"That's it? Where's the pain? The anger? The agony?" Chris complained from a lounge chair two of the interns had brought over for him.

"How did we get roped into this again?" The first intern asked. Chris spat his drink out in the second one's face.

Abigail got clocked in the face by two gloves at once and the crowd let out a collective, "Oooooh," but she grit her teeth and kept going. She leapt over the last section and onto the next platform, where she had her ticket stamped for entry.

"And Abigail and the Sly Foxes take the early lead!" Chris announced. "Kamari and Chuck aren't too far behind though!"

Kamari and Chuck seemed to feel a greater urgency to continue as Abigail tagged Lin for part two. Lin eyed the log jump, with each successive jump having a greater distance between them than the last. She shrugged her shoulders and took a running jump to the next one.

She made it, but the surface was so slippery that she almost immediately fell into the water below. She hit the water face first and the contestants all shrunk back.

"That had to hurt," Abigail remarked, somewhat worriedly.

"Hahaha awesome!" Chris wiped tears of laughter from his eyes. "I'm definitely putting that one on the instant reply when this gets edited! Lin, you'll have to get out of the water and try again."

At this point, Kamari had reached the end of his challenge and tagged Olivia, who looked anxiously down at where Lin had just fallen.

"Th-th-this is insane!" Olivia decided. "What if we get seriously hurt?"

"Your pain is our gain!" Chris said gleefully.

"Come on guys, let's give her some encouragement," Claudia called to her fellow teammates. "Go Olivia! Show that log jump who's the boss!"

"Go Olivia, woohoo!" David cheered.

Olivia gulped and took a deep breath. Instead of a running jump, she launched herself from a standstill position at the ledge of the first log. She closed her eyes in the air but when she opened them again, she realized she had made it.

"That's it! You go girl!" David encouraged her.

"While Olivia succeeds and Lin takes a bath, Chuck has finished the first challenge!" Chris said, earning a glower from Lin, who had dragged herself out of the water.

Chuck tagged Jackie, who had been limbering up. She grinned before sprinting quickly, hopping from log to log almost in one fell swoop. She bypassed Olivia, who had made it the second log, and managed to make it all the way through in one go.

"And Jackie beats that challenge with some style! The Sponges quickly go from last to first!" Chris announced.

As Jackie tagged Maddie in, the latter asked, "How did you do that?"

"I'm a runner, but I do some gymnastics. It was elementary, honestly," Jackie said with a grin.

"Hurry up Lin, now we're in last!" Hoodie sneered at his teammate, who ignored him.

Lin looked to have learned from her mistake, silently cursing Chef for lubing up the platforms, and instead proceeded to follow Jackie's strategy. With her nimble reflexes, she was able to pass Olivia and make it to the other side.

Lin tagged Horace in, who caught up to Maddie as she was fastening a helmet to her head before taking on the bumper horse race. Horace grinned at the prospect and was quick to join her, while Olivia finished the second challenge.

"It's a dead heat for first between the Sponges and Foxes, while the Narwhals trail a bit behind. Can Wes close the gap in the bumper horses?"

Maddie was staring at her 'vehicle' with a little confusion, but Horace got his started up right away. He sped in front of her, taking the lead. Maddie had spotted what he was doing and was quick to follow.

"Oh no you don't!" Maddie floored it and crashed into the back of Horace.

"Watch it!" Horace shouted back.

"Sorry, it's a bumper horse race!" Maddie stuck her tongue out playfully as the two continued to barge into each other.

Wes had fastened himself in and took a moment to say to the camera, "Really great challenge twist Chris, I'm a huge fan."

As Wes got started, Maddie and Horace were coming up on the part of the track with the ticket. They glared at each other for the latter had a realization, "Wait, Chris, there's only one ticket?"

"That's right Horace! One flag between the three of you. The ticket will be replaced on the next lap around, but you'll fall behind if you don't get the first one."

"Is that so? Then I may as well wait…" Wes said as he had an idea.

With the new information, and sick twist, Horace and Maddie were extra determined to get the ticket. Horace was slightly closer, and he started to reach out when Maddie rammed the side of his horse and forced him to lose his balance. Horace tried not to fall off but he couldn't stop physics and he faceplanted off his horse and onto the track.

"Sorry! Later cowboy!" Maddie said with a giggle as her hands wrapped around the ticket.

"Maddie and the Sponges takes the lead!"

Maddie parked her horse and said to Saffron, who was waiting, "You know, that was so much more fun than I expected!"

"Shut up, horse girl," Saffron sneered before taking the ticket and being the first to tackle the carnival games section. Maddie just looked at her in bewilderment.

While Horace slowly recovered, the ticket had automatically replenished. Unfortunately, Wes had anticipated the timing and quickly sped past Horace and snatched ticket number two. Horace was dumbfounded as the other boy cheered.

"And Horace falls into last place!" Chris laughed as Wes tagged Claudia.

Confessional:

Horace: He's seen holding an ice pack over his forehead, "You know, Chris won't be laughing so much when he sees what I can really do! Let's just say hypnotism runs in my family, and I've picked up a few tricks of the trade."

Olivia: She looked proud of herself, "I can't believe I did the log jump without falling once! I mean, sure I was the last to finish, but I did my job. Definitely not a target for elimination if we lose and that's what's important."

Saffron seemed to be taking a deliberately long time to decide between the difficult ladder climb or the dice game. Claudia was easily able to catch up to her while she debated.

"I'll do the dice game," Claudia told the intern who was running this segment.

"Yeah? Then I'm doing the ladder. I don't want to be like other girls," Saffron decided. The intern shrugged, clearly having no idea what that meant.

"Here's how the game works," the intern told Claudia while a different intern guided Saffron to the ladder station. "The game is called 'Boss Dice'."

"Lucky," Laura muttered under her breath, "it's a super fun game people play predominantly in San Francisco."

"How do you know that?" Jay asked her curiously.

"Huh? Oh, just vacationed a lot with my family in San Francisco," Laura lied smoothly.

"Boss Dice is a two-player game," the intern was saying to Claudia, who sat across from him at a table. "Because Chris is mean, it's already been decided that I will play as 'the boss' which gives me an unfair advantage."

"Sounds like Chris," Claudia nodded expectantly.

"We'll each roll five dice and try to form a poker hand without the other person seeing what we roll. As the boss, I will get to decide if the round needs a mulligan or not. If it is, we simply re-roll until I'm satisfied. You only win if you can best me."

"That seems so unfair, even for you," Kamari told Chris, who shrugged.

Claudia and the intern each rolled five dice separately. Claudia saw three ones, one four, and one six. The intern looked at their dice and immediately called for a mulligan.

"Chris, couldn't this theoretically go on forever?" David asked.

"It's all about bluffing and reading your opponent's mind. Claudia has to demonstrate tactical lying and hope the intern falls for it. It's a battle of wits, I thought you kids would appreciate this one," Chris huffed.

"Maybe she should've done the ladder instead," Wes grumbled.

Meanwhile, Saffron had been told that all she needed to do was successfully climb up the ladder over the inflatable and grab the ticket at the top. It was a mere twenty feet climb.

"You should have made this challenge more difficult," Saffron said cockily as she started on the smaller rungs. Almost instantly she lost her balance and the entire ladder flipped over. Saffron landed on the inflatable face first and Chris burst out laughing.

Horace had finally finished his challenge and tagged Kahil. With no one advancing past part four, it was a dead heat between all three teams. Kahil warily eyed the dice game, then glanced over and saw Saffron repeatedly falling off the first couple of rungs.

"Come on man, go for the dice game!" Horace encouraged.

"Alright…but I'm warning you my luck is not always the best…" Kahil said as he sat down beside Claudia and across from a different intern.

Claudia had just lost her round after failing to bluff her way through. She started over, while Kahil had his first match. He had two pairs of twos and threes and a lone five. The intern did not mulligan the round and was about to reveal their full house of twos and threes when a freak gust of wind blew about the area and caused one of the threes to roll over into being a one.

"Looks like Kahil wins and takes the lead for the Foxes!" Chris said while everyone looked at each other, dumbfounded.

"And you say you don't have any luck," Horace clapped Kahil on the back as the Arabic boy tagged the next three for the haunted house.

Confessional:

Kahil: He looks at the camera for a few seconds and then bursts into fits of laughter.

"Come on Claudia! You can fool that intern!" Laura shouted, not knowing of course that the intern frowned at her.

Hoodie, Casey, and AJ were staring at the haunted house, which ad a sign out front that read, "TV Show Rejects enter here,"

"Think that one's for you Ghostbuster?" Hoodie sneered at AJ, but AJ was far too busy trembling to notice the teasing.

"Are we just going to stand here all day or what?" Casey snapped and led the way for the team into the haunted house.

Claudia stared as menacingly as she could at the intern, which caused the intern to giggle slightly at the entirely unimposing girl. The round proceeded and Claudia was finally able to win with a straight against two pairs.

"And Claudia advances to the next round! That leaves the Sponges in last place!" Chris announced through the megaphone.

"Come on Saffron!" Maddie called, somewhat worriedly. "You don't want to get last place like, uh, other girls right?"

"What?" Saffron's voice raised several octaves. "How dare you accuse of me of that!"

Saffron angrily stomped her way through the challenge, somehow placing her feet exactly where they needed to go to maintain balance, and she swiped the ticket.

"Saffron's finished part four for the Sponges! We're in a tie once again at the haunted house!" Chris called excitedly.

Confessional:

Maddie: She smiles, "It's all about figuring out what motivates people and then using it. Wait, that sounds a bit ominous, what I meant was…

Saffron: She rolls her eyes dramatically, "As if I needed her to help. I was the only person to even attempt the ladder because I'm different! I probably should've done a bit more to standout to let everyone know that I'm the main character, but what? Oh I know! Next time I'll have a quirky book with me during the challenge!

For the Narwhals, David had taken Laura's hand, which seemed to make her uncomfortable. Jay took David's other hand and led the way into the haunted house, all the while narrating, "We don't want to get separated. Chris said there was a penalty if we don't all get out of the house together."

"What they said," Ken remarked as he took Bea and Declan's hands and entered the haunted house.

All three groups were inside now and taking in the creepy atmosphere. It was unnaturally dark, with some eerie fungus emitting a low purple light along the walls. Ken had to pull Bea away from the fungi after she looked like she was going to touch it.

"What? Do you know how valuable glow-in-the-dark material is for clothing? It's definitely the latest fashion trend, you heard it here first," Bea explained. Ken rolled his eyes and Declan had his eyes firmly shut.

"C-c-can we just get out of here quickly?" Declan asked nervously. "I don't do well in haunted houses."

"Why didn't you say so before we decided what everyone was doing?" Bea asked.

"It's not like Jackie gave anyone much of a chance," Ken muttered under his breath.

"We need to hurry," Bea said seriously, "The Foxes have that ghost expert on their team and had the early lead. Which means it's us versus the Narwhals here and we need to finish first."

Confessional:

Belladonna: She smacks her lips after applying some bright pink lipstick, "I'm not stupid. The team that loses first will immediately be at a disadvantage in future challenges. Really don't want that moniker to go to us.

David: He looks mildly disappointed for a moment, "I don't think Laura wanted to do the haunted house challenge with us and I felt a little bad about roping her into this. I'm making it up to her after we get out of here though!"

"So where to fearless leader?" Casey asked AJ.

"Are you really asking him?" Hoodie asked exasperatedly.

"I'll have you know that I know all about paranormal activity. And this place is absolutely crawling with it!" AJ said a little fearfully. "That purple light for example. Only thing that can penetrate a ghost's natural darkness? It's obviously the purple aura of something that is stuck in purgatory."

"That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard," Hoodie groaned.

"No, no, I think he's on to something," Casey said sarcastically and grabbed one of the fungi off the wall and tossed it casually over her shoulder. It landed on AJ's head, and he shrieked. The house echoed his screams in a way that even the harder contestants a little uneasy.

"Relax, it was a mushroom. You're a real chicken for a ghost hunter, you know that right?" Casey pointed out.

AJ took a deep breath, "I may be, yes, but we're in luck! I see the ticket!"

He pointed to his right and in the distance there was a slightly brighter purple glow where a ticket was dangling from a rope. The Foxes grinned at each other and started running towards the ticket.

An obviously fake ghost rose up from a trap door in the ground and unenthusiastically said, "Boo."

Casey and Hoodie looked at each other and started laughing at Chef Hatchet with a white sheet over his body. AJ on the other hand absolutely freaked out and in a panic he grabbed the ticket and fled the scene.

"Wait!" Hoodie called to his teammate, but AJ came running out of the house and into the sunlight.

"Ah daylight!" AJ cheered and started kissing the ground. Nervously, Hope tapped his hand and gulped as she looked at the tower she needed to climb.

Confessional:

Hoodie: He growls in frustration, "Sure we finished first, but AJ got us a penalty for finishing without me and Casey. Knowing Chris, we won't even know how severe the penalty is until it's convenient for him. Typical.

The Narwhals and Sponges inside the haunted house had heard AJ's screams and used it to pinpoint the location of the remaining tickets. Jay and Ken grabbed their respective tickets at the same time and each team made their way collectively to the exit. Kayla and Maverick immediately sprang into action and made their way to the base of the tower where Hope was still standing.

"After all this time, it's still anyone's game!" Chris cheered. "Ah, this is what I've been missing! Although I could've used some more effort from a certain poltergeist!"

Chef had just emerged from the haunted house and a nasty snarl came across his face. He calmly approached Chris and put the ghost costume over the host so he couldn't see.

Meanwhile, all the team members were cheering for their final members. Casey and Hoodie had finally stumbled out of the haunted house, both looking quite annoyed. AJ gave them a sheepish, apologetic look, but they didn't seem to want to hear it.

"Maverick! Maverick! Maverick!" Maddie, Jackie and Bea cheered for the Sponges.

Saffron stood slightly away from them and muttered, "Of course they're into the athletic hunk."

Maverick and Kayla were both climbing the tower, each about halfway up. Hope was trying her best, and had managed to make it about a third of the way before she lost her grip. She screamed as she fell and landed with a painful thud back on the ground.

"Ow! My tailbone!" Hope whimpered.

"Come on Hope!" Abigail tried to encourage her teammate. Hope dusted herself off and got back in the game, desperate to make up for lost ground.

Kayla grit her teeth and kept climbing, but she nearly lost her balance twice. Maverick was having no such problems, and he soon overtook her. Maverick demonstrated some impressive physical strength as he pulled himself up to the final part of the tower and grabbed the first ticket.

"And Maverick wins it for the Self-Absorbed Sponges!" Chef announced while Chris tried to get himself untangled.

"Aw man I missed the winner! Chef!" Chris whined.

Hope was catching up to Kayla, but she was too far behind to begin with. She gave it her all, but it was all for naught. Kayla made it to the top of the tower and grabbed the second ticket.

"And the Narwhals take second! Which means the Foxes lose despite holding the lead during the haunted house challenge!" Chef took great pleasure in taking Chris' pride of hosting away from him.

Chris finally got out of the ghost costume and glared at Chef, "I missed all the best parts at the end, but congratulations to the Self-Absorbed Sponges! As winners of the first challenge, you'll all be treated to luxury massages at the Wawanakwa Salon and Spa!"

That was met with cheers from most of the team and disappointed looks from the other teams.

Confessional:

Maverick: He looks poised and calm, "I knew we were going to win. It's all about how it ends, and I knew I had the edge over Kayla and Hope. Still, it does feel nice to take the first gold of the season!

Ken: He looks a little dreamy-eyed, "Spa day! Spa day! What? If you knew how much time I had to spend to get my look right, you'd be just as excited as me."

Chuck: "I'm just relieved I didn't have to go into the haunted house, or I might've reacted like AJ and hurt my team. I'm kind of a wimp nowadays…"

~End Confessional~

"Narwhals, you didn't win but you didn't lose either. So you're free to go back to your cabin. Foxes, what can I say that Chef didn't already? You guys blew it despite leading into the final challenge," Chris said, sounding disappointed.

"I'm really sorry guys. I tried!" Hope winced at some of the looks she received.

"If it's any consolation, you would've gotten last either way thanks to the stunt AJ pulled leaving without his other teammates," Chris pointed out. Some of the angry looks shifted to AJ, who looked ashamed.

"It's time for the first vote of the season! Make your way to the confessional and let's get a camper off this island!"

Confessional:

Hope: She looks very worried, "I really messed up at the end so I just have to pray that the others don't vote me off.

AJ: His eyes are downcast, "I messed up big time in my own domain! My parents have been trying to get me to calm my fears better, always saying that it would definitely come up. I just didn't expect it to come up in the first challenge on Total Drama.

Casey: She's considering between two people, "They both sucked. He ditched us, but she's annoying. Hmm, I'll vote for…

The eight members of the Sly Foxes sat on logs around the infamous Total Drama campfire. Chris McLean stood before them with a plate of seven marshmallows. Dramatic music queued up and the contestants started to look a little nervous.

"Ah, there it is. The look of anticipation, guilt, fear. One of you is about to be the first contestant eliminated in Total Drama Revamp! I know I wouldn't want that humiliation!" Chris laughed. "I'm sure you all know how this works. When I call your name, come up and claim your marshmallow. If your name is not called, you must board the boat of losers and leave the island forever!"

"Until you inevitably bring people back midway through the season you mean," Lin said, sounding bored.

"There's no guarantee I'm doing that, but congrats Lin you get the first marshmallow!"

Lin shrugged and tossed the marshmallow into her mouth. Chris narrowed his eyes at the remaining campers.

"Kahil!"

"Abigail!"

"Hoodie!"

"Casey!"

"Horace!"

The campers he had called all happily took their sugary treats and turned to see the remaining two. Hope was unconsciously twirling her hair in her finger so tightly she was cutting off circulation. AJ was mumbling something to himself, perhaps a prayer.

"What can I say, both of you were expected to be at the bottom today. AJ, you're a self-proclaimed ghost hunter but you panicked at the first sight of a very uninspiring Chef-Ghost and fled the scene from your teammates. Hope, you seem like a nice girl but your lack of skills really showed in the challenge today. With all the pressure on your shoulders, you crumbled."

Chris held up the last marshmallow and the two remaining campers held their breath.

"The last person safe tonight is…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"…Hope!"

Hope let out a relieved cheer and then turned with a guilty look to AJ, "I'm so sorry!"

AJ looked disappointed, but not overly surprised. He sighed and got to his feet, "Sorry guys, I respect the decision. I need to work on myself a little bit before I'm ready to face my fears."

"Good luck out there, man," Horace clapped him on the shoulder.

"You'll show those ghosts whose boss," Kahil told him.

AJ managed a smile, "Thanks guys."

The Foxes all went with AJ down to the dock to say their final goodbyes. He waved at them from the boat as he disappeared from view.

Over in the Narwhal cabin, there was a knock on the girls' side. Surprised, Claudia opened the door and saw David standing there.

"David? What's up?" Claudia asked.

David held up a dice set, "I asked the intern if I could borrow this. I know Laura really wanted to do the dice game but it was kind of my fault she didn't. So I figured we could play!"

Laura lifted herself out of her bed and allowed herself a smile, "That sounds nice. You're on!"

"Count me in on that action!" Kayla laughed.

"Olivia?" Claudia turned toward their final cabinmate.

"Um, sure why not?" Olivia shrugged and the five of them enjoyed each other's company.

Confessional:

Abigail: "I vote for AJ today. Hope may not be physically impressive, but she tried. AJ gave up."

AJ: "I vote for Hope. She seems really sweet but it's pretty obvious she and I will be the bottom two tonight."

Casey: "This went more or less how I expected. I vote for Hope because I don't want to deal with her in my cabin all season."

Hoodie: "I vote AJ. He clung to me a ton on day 1, annoyed me in the cabin, and of course abandoned us in the challenge. No brainer decision."

Hope: "I vote for AJ. This is the part I was least looking forward to on this show. Everyone seems so nice that I don't want to have to vote anyone off."

Horace: "I vote AJ. Seems like a funny guy, but from my brief time with him in the cabin I just don't know if he'd really fit. Plus I might be a target after my embarrassing defeat in the bumper horse challenge."

Kahil: "I vote AJ. Just too weird for me, man."

Lin: "I'm voting for AJ. Hope probably isn't going to last long if I'm honest, but I liked the effort I saw from her. She deserves another shot. Although AJ probably does too. It's tough being the first boot."

~End Confessional~

"And there you have it!" Chris announced from the dock of shame. "AJ is our first camper eliminated and we have twenty-two more to get rid of before someone is crowned the winner! Can the Sponges win again? Will the Foxes lose two in a row and become the team we all enjoy making fun of? And will Chef start treating me with the respect I deserve?"

"Like that's gonna happen," Chef snickered.

"All these answers, and more, next time on Total Drama Revamp!"

And there it is! I liked writing this one infinitely more than the intro chapter because the characters start to become more fleshed out. I really like the cast I have so thanks to everyone for submitting these characters! I know the challenge is probably a bit strange, but I wanted something that would give everyone a chance to shine.

How do we feel about AJ being the first to go? I always feel bad for the first elimination because they never really get a chance, but it made sense to me to go this route.
