Wakko clung onto Dot as tightly as he could, just trying to ride out this storm. He hadn't thought his brother was that upset over that episode, but he'd been wrong. And now he was facing the consequences.
"Wakko, I can't get into my hammerspace!" Wakko felt Dot's heart quickening, which probably explained why.
"What're you trying to get?" he asked, unable to help.
"I'm trying to get my mallet. We need to knock some sense into Yakko!"
Wakko nodded. "Well, we have to stay low for now. The lightning's even flashing in here."
"Then let's hurry up and get down from here. We aren't safe!" Dot wrestled her way out of Wakko's warm embrace and made a mad dash towards the water tower door.
"Dot, stop!" Wakko saw Yakko's silhouette slowly turn to face Dot.
"Sorry, sibs, can't let you get in my way now. Why don't you go back inside like the good little Warners you are?" Yakko snapped his fingers, and Dot went flying back against the wall.
As she hit the back wall, Wakko could hear her screams echoing in his mind. She collided, and the screams stopped. Wakko was filled with a blind rage and took off running towards Yakko.
He reached behind him and felt… air. He tried to get into his hammerspace, but he couldn't get through to it. He dug his heels into the floor to stop himself before looking up into his brother's face.
"Yakko," Wakko begged.
"Sorry, baby bro. This is my time to shine."
Wakko closed his eyes and braced for the impact. Another snap of Yakko's fingers, and he slid along the floor and headfirst into the wall. The last sound he heard before going unconscious was the slam of the door. Yakko was gone.
-End Scene
When he woke up, Wakko barely remembered what happened. He wasn't sure how he'd survived the flooding in the water tower, nor could he remember how it had happened. All he remembered was Yakko storming out and abandoning them.
No, there was something else nagging him, something floating right on the edges of his memory, blurry but starting to clear. He attempted to reach into hammerspace, look for something to help Dot, who was still unconscious. He couldn't break through, couldn't penetrate the barrier, and that's when it hit him full force. Yakko had taken away their toonish abilities.
"Wakko?" Dot's voice was weak, strained, and it made Wakko's heart break. But he knew that without Yakko around, it was his turn to be strong for her.
"It's okay. We can't access hammerspace for now, but we'll fix that later." He put the back of his hand up and wiped away a tear on her cheek.
"Why did he leave?"
"I'm not quite sure. It's still a bit fuzzy to me, too. He knocked us both out pretty hard."
Dot's eyes fluttered shut again, and Wakko scooped her up to tuck her into bed. Luckily, the storm seemed to have passed, so he decided to go observe the damage Yakko had done.
His head began spinning as soon as he walked outside. He was already in enough pain, and seeing the studio lot destroyed hurt him emotionally. He thought he was going to faint.
Everything was flattened. Mallets and anvils laid everywhere, and Wakko knew nobody could have survived it. He wished he could run after Yakko and calm him down, but there wasn't even a trail to follow.
There was a cough down below. "Scratchy! Up here!" Wakko called.
"Vat did you kidzies do to ze place?" the psychiatrist called back.
"I wish I knew. Yakko blew a fuse today and left us. He's gone off the deep end. Can you come up here and we can talk?"
Dr. Scratchansniff agreed and began scaling the water tower. Wakko took a deep breath, knowing this would be a long conversation that he wasn't ready to have.
