Hi All. Welcome to chapter five of Potter Kind: Memoirs. This is the first in a series of stories that will all be under the umbrella of Potter Kind, I hope to write new stories for this series frequently. This series was inspired by some works by a writer who used to be on this site but doesn't put her work out there because of some negative feedback sadly. This story is complete and was written as a one shot, but I decided it was too long to be a one shot, so I've split it into six small chapters for you. Updates should be weekly unless something drastic happens. Don't forget if you haven't already, make sure to go onto your profile and opt in for email notifications if you want to be notified each time that I put a new chapter/story up.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, Castor Charlus Potter and Jennifer Euphemia Potter are my own original character, but all other recognisable characters belong to J K Rowling, I just like to use them to do my bidding.
Series Summary: We know from the Black Tapestry that Dorea Black married Charlus Potter and they had a son. What if Charlus was James Potter's Father Fleamont Potter's brother? What if James had a little sister? What if Harry had other family members who could have taken him in and raise him? This is the story of the last three Potters.
Story Summary: This is the story of how Castor, Jennifer, and Harry became the last three Potters. James Potter's AU backstory, how he came to have a cousin and little sister. AU, two OC's, JamesXLily, DoreaXCharlus, FleamontXEuphemia, Marauders Era Fic. Warnings inside.
Warning: This story involves character death, is AU and has two OC's, also contains mentions of, though no actual description of, parental spankings. Don't like, don't read.
A huge, huge thank you to my amazing Beta who has been an amazing support in writing this. Yes, I am trying my hardest to turn her into a Harry Potter Fan. Without her support and guidance, I don't know if I'd have written this.

Sirius let Cas pull back from the hug and sighed, "you know I don't think Jenny's packed much of anything yet… the option to stay is still available…" he offered. He wished more than anything Cas would stop being so stubborn and just stay here, even just for a few months. Cas could then ease into the legal guardian role, letting him and Remus guide him, even James hadn't done it on his own and had let him help, but Cas was as stubborn as any Potter and was adamant about doing it alone.
Cas sighed, he was quite certain Sirius was right, Jenny was not happy with him. She had expressed her unhappiness clearly enough when he'd gotten home, again this morning before they'd headed to his graduation, and just to make sure he really understood, this evening once they got back again. He couldn't blame her, not truly, he knew she was sort of settled here had made a few local friends, but this was always going to be temporary… if he'd had his way, they never would have lived here.
Flashback
It was hard for Cas, being at Hogwarts with his baby brother and sister home, especially with the new knowledge of the fact they had a Prophecy hanging over them. A Prophecy that James had only this summer told him could potentially apply to his baby brother! They'd been living with this knowledge since before Harry had even been born but had never bothered to tell him. James had insisted it was because he didn't want to worry him, but Cas said that was bullshit along with a few other choice phrases, something James hadn't liked. Cas had been shocked to quite suddenly find himself upended over James' lap at sixteen years old, magical soap bubbling in his mouth. He spluttered and yelled and tried to insist that he was far too old for this, but James wasn't having it.
After James had made sure Cas knew he had to keep a civil tongue in his head, he pulled up his sobbing ward and held him close while he cried. It hadn't been a terrible spanking, far from the worse spanking James had ever given Cas, but James didn't believe in token spankings.
When Cas had calmed down, he apologised for his disrespect, James was owed better than that for him and though it was somewhat of a shock to his system knowing he could still get spanked at sixteen, he couldn't deny it was deserved. He had much more calmly and respectfully discussed the situation, and actually listened to James' explanation. It annoyingly made sense, there really wasn't much they could do about it, they couldn't go out and fight it, all they could do was stay hidden in the Manor and do what they could to stay safe. Unfortunately, the emergency portkeys were useless now, as You Know Who and the Death Eaters now never failed to put up Anti Portkey Wards, along with the Anti Apparation Wards.
Now, back at Hogwarts, Cas lived for the letters from James, Lily, and Sirius, the wave of relief that washed over him each time he saw Archimedes carrying a letter from home, or Floyd carrying a letter from Sirius. He did think his brother was slightly insane for naming his owl after a muggle band that Lily had introduced him too, but slightly insane was an understatement when it came to Sirius really. Floyd was a better name than Beatles, Zeppelin, Sabbath, or Pistol, which were all names Sirius had considered for the poor owl. Remus didn't write often, he couldn't, not when he was busy playing spy amongst the werewolf camps. They all worried for him, but had faith Remus knew what he was doing, and he really was the only person who could do it, they needed the werewolves if not on their side, then to agree to stay out of the war. Some wouldn't, like Greyback and the packs loyal to him, but the more allies they could deprive You-Know-Who of the better. If Peter ever wrote to him Cas would have been worried, Peter was the only one of his brothers' friends who didn't seem to naturally treat him like a little brother. He was friendly enough, but seemed more shy, more in James, Sirius, and Remus' shadow, just happy to be included in the group.
Ten days before Halloween, a clearly rushed letter was sent to Cas with Archimedes, apparently there was strong evidence that You-Know-Who had a spy in the Housing Records Department of the Ministry. It was why he was able to overcome the Ancient wards on the old family Manors, he had the information! James and Lily were going to have to move somewhere else and hide under a Fidelius Charm. The Manor couldn't be put under the Fidelius, it was too big and there were too many other wards that would prevent it, to add the Fidelius would involve taking apart the entire ward scheme and carefully reconstructing it, weaving it all together delicately. They promised to tell him the secret so that he could come and stay with them for Christmas, but for now, it was better if he didn't know exactly where they were going to be. Cas was sick with worry, but if he'd known they'd also been warned that You-Know-Who was ready to strike, he would have demanded to go home to help them.
Shortly after midnight on Halloween, Cas found himself being shaken awake by his Head of House who, to his horror, was crying. He had demanded to know what was going on, but she simply insisted that he needed to accompany her to the Hospital Wing. Cas shoved on his dressing gown and slippers and hurried after Professor McGonagall, ignoring the concerned looked from his Dormmates, his mind spinning with worry about which member of his family had been hurt.
Sirius immediately pulled Cas into a tight hug when his little brother came into the Hospital Wing, he held him tightly and broke down into sobs for what felt like the nth time that night.
Cas was surprised to find himself engulfed in Sirius' arms, but at least that was one person he could count as safe. Though that wasn't much comfort, as Sirius was supposed to be the one at greatest risk as he was masquerading as James, Lily, Jenny, and Harry's Secret Keeper. It took him slightly longer than it maybe should have to realise Sirius was crying, no not just crying, but sobbing into him, sobbing so hard his whole body was shaking. Cas felt the panic start to bubble up in his chest, making his throat tight and he struggled in Sirius' arms. "What, what is it? What's happened?" He demanded. "Where are my… where are James and Lily? Where's Jenny? Where's Harry?" He ordered someone, anyone to tell him.
Dumbledore was there then, "Castor, I am deeply sorry to have to tell you this, but James and Lily, they are dead. Jennifer and Harry are fine, they are in the bed behind the curtain there, you can see them for yourself if you wish. As for what happened, well Voldemort was able to find them, though Sirius claims not to have betrayed the secret…"
"I told you, you daft bastard! I wasn't the bloody secret keeper, that fucking rat Peter was! We used a damn ruse. It was supposed to keep them safe… I thought it would protect them…" Sirius started yelling, but he trailed off as the very real pain hit him again and be broke down into sobs once more.
Cas was in shock, James and Lily were dead, but Harry and Jenny were alive? How? "It's true," he stated numbly, "D-James told me, Sirius was just pretending, for extra safety." He felt numb, nothing made sense to him, he was half expecting James to jump out from behind the curtain and tell him it was all a joke.
"Oh Merlin, the poor boy's going into shock. Mr Potter, Castor, drink this," Madam Pomfrey gasped. She pressed a goblet of Calming Draught into the eldest remaining Potter's hands.
Cas took hold of the thing pressed into his hands and at the medi-witch's urging drank from it. It was only then he noticed he was shaking, as the liquid in the goblet sloshed, and his legs quite suddenly felt like they couldn't support him.
Despite his own almost overwhelming grief and burning desire for revenge, Sirius saw Cas was about to drop so rushed to catch him before he could, easing him down onto an empty bed. He wrapped his arm around him, hugging him close to him as Cas tried to come to terms with the news. He didn't offer any soothing platitudes, what could he say? That it would be okay? Of course it wasn't okay, poor kid had lost yet another set of parents and he was a piss poor substitute, he knew that. When James had insisted Cas and Jenny had come to live with him Sirius hadn't put up a fuss, James was far better suited to the role of father figure than he was. Now he was the only option, but at least it was better than going to an orphanage.
As the Calming Draught cleared his head, Cas realised his little sister and brother were just behind the curtain and he struggled against the arm holding him. "Let me go, I need to see Harry and Jenny!" He insisted. He still didn't know what had happened, but he wanted to make sure they really were okay and both safe.
Sirius kicked himself, he was already proving to be a shit guardian, of course Cas would be worried about Harry and Jenny. "Come on, they are asleep, under a Dreamless Sleep potion, but they are both fine. Jenny was with me, we were out trick or treating with Andi, Ted, and Dora," he explained. He drew back the curtain so Cas could see Harry and Jenny.
Even asleep Jenny had tear tracks down her cheeks, and there was an odd cut on Harry's head, in the shape of a lightning bolt. Cas looked at Sirius confused, "Harry was hurt?"
"That is where the killing curse struck but was rebounded," Dumbledore stated.
Cas whirled around and looked at his Headmaster in disbelief, "what the fuck did you just say?
Sirius knew he should reprimand Cas for his language, but he had said much worse when Albus had told him that.
Dumbledore ignored the fact he'd just been sworn at by a student. "When Voldemort entered the cottage in Godric's Hollow that James and Lily were staying at, he killed James straight away, but Lily must have sacrificed herself for Harry. That act of sacrifice is what saved Harry, see Voldemort does not and cannot understand love, and to sacrifice your life in the place of someone you love, is the strongest and purest form of love. So, when, after murdering his mother, Voldemort turned his wand on her child, the spell backfired, and his body was destroyed." he explained. "And it is for that reason that Harry will be going to his Aunt and Uncle's home tomorrow," he stated.
That was information overload and Cas had to close his eyes and figure out just what he wanted to say first.
"And I've told you, Harry will go to Petunia over my dead body," Sirius growled.
Yes, Sirius was right, Harry going to Petunia Dursley was the first thing that needed addressing. "Mine too," Cas hissed. "He's my brother, he's staying with me," he declared.
"I'm afraid I cannot allow that Castor, you are only sixteen and not of age, you cannot be the legal guardian of a minor whilst still a minor yourself," Dumbledore denied.
Cas opened his mouth to tell Dumbledore where to shove it, but Sirius spoke first.
"And he's my Godson. Cas, Jenny, and Harry will all be coming to live with me," Sirius stated, his tone making it clear he was laying down the law.
Cas grumbled a little, but he accepted it, it was only for a few months anyway.
"Sirius, I implore you, see reason. Harry must be protected, Voldemort might have been defeated tonight, but his followers are still out there, and they will delight in hurting Harry. I can put up blood wards at the house his mother's blood resides, somewhere Voldemort, his followers, or anyone meaning Harry harm won't ever be able to find him," Dumbledore pressed.
"Frankly Albus, I don't give a damn. Harry has just lost both his parents, Cas and Jenny have both just lost their brother and legal guardian. They are staying together and staying with me, or I'll go to the Wizengamot and tell them you are trying to put the future Lord Potter with muggle relatives and separating him from his magical family," Sirius threatened. "Now, thank you for offering for Harry and Jenny to stay here for tonight, and for excusing Cas from his classes for the next week or so, but we're going to go home and grieve our losses. Cas can you take Harry? I'll grab Jenny," he ended the conversation.
"Sirius, I must insist…" Dumbledore started.
"No! No, you can't insist! Harry is MY GODSON! He has just lost his parents and I will not allow you to take him from the only other people he knows! I mean it old man! I was fucking there when James and Lily wrote their Will! I know Harry isn't to go to Petunia for any reason! And if you keep pushing this insane idea of yours, I will go to the Wizengamot, and you can see what they think about you ignoring the Last Will and Testament of a Lord! Now get the fuck out of my way before I blow you out of my way!" Sirius roared.
"Mr Black! That is quite enough! This is a Hospital Wing, it's almost one o'clock in the morning and I have patients!" Madam Pomfrey scolded sharply.
Dumbledore sighed in defeat, "as you wish Sirius, I do implore you to reconsider, the wards need to be set up within seventy-two hours, any longer and I will not be able to cast them."
"Don't hold your breath," Sirius almost snarled under his breath. He turned and picked up the sleeping Jenny, "get Harry Cas," he bit out through tightly clenched teeth.
Cas was extremely impressed with Sirius in that moment, but he didn't say anything, just bent down and picked up his baby brother.
"You may use my Floo," Madam Pomfrey allowed stiffly.
Sirius took a deep breath and forced his anger away, "thank you Poppy, I am sorry for shouting like that, it's been… it's been a rough night."
Madam Pomfrey softened then, "I know, you take care of them, and of yourself, and stay safe."
"Always," Sirius agreed, "come on Cas, we're going to mine and Remus' place."
Cas nodded and followed Sirius to the Floo, after James and Lily had moved into Potter Manor, the large six-bedroom property was too much for just Sirius, Remus, and Peter especially since Peter was rarely even there. The three unattached Marauders were going to look for a place just for them, but Peter's mother's condition worsened, and he insisted he had to move back home to look after her. They hadn't seen much of him since then, always assuming he was with his mother, but now, now he'd apparently betrayed James and Lily's location and Cas needed to know why. Actually, there was a lot that Cas still needed to know, still didn't understand, and he hoped Sirius had answers for him.
Flashback over
Fortunately for Cas, Sirius had been able to answer his questions, he'd already asked Dumbledore the same ones. Learning that Peter had likely willingly betrayed them to Voldemort was another blow. Sirius confirming that yes, Harry had defeated Voldemort was almost incomprehensible. Sirius explained that he'd come across the cottage they'd been staying at completely destroyed when he brought Jenny home. He told Cas if he hadn't had Jenny to deal with, as Hagrid insisted that he had to take Harry to Dumbledore, he might have lost it completely and gone to hunt down Peter. As it was, he was able to keep his head and took Harry and Jenny to Dumbledore. The only reason it had taken so long for them to alert Cas was because Dumbledore had spent over an hour interrogating Sirius, not willing to believe he had been duped, and then even longer arguing with him about where Harry was going. They'd probably have gone at it all night, until Sirius realised Cas needed to be informed and refused to discuss the situation any further just demanding someone fetch Cas. After half an hour of this Dumbledore had finally woken up Professor McGonagall, informed her, and sent her to go fetch Cas.
