This chapter is shorter than the others because it's just for a little filler and build up for other things to come.
It had taken a while for Shirou to get used to this strange new world he had woken up to. It was familiar yet different in many ways. Humans still existed but now they were no longer the dominant species, they were outnumbered by the slightly mutated overlanders descended from humans and the far more numerous mobians who were descended from animals, Shirou had to learn to stop himself from petting some of them. Some religions like Christianity still existed but there were also some bizarre new ones that worshipped deities such as Chaos, Solaris, The Source and Gaia, that last deity however made him wince as it was a name he recognized. There was also more ether in the air, perhaps it was tied to what happened to Humanity.
It had been a few weeks since his first meeting with Fiona and they had started to do mercenary work together. Fiona was a very agile fighter and skilled combatant and her technical skills along with her medical knowledge made her a very useful partner. She also had experience fighting with guns and knives which also helped. Paired with his combat experience, archery training, engineering knowledge and magecraft they made a pretty good team.
Now they were doing a job to sabotage the Oil Ocean Refinery.

Fiona had managed to sneak past the guards and place all the bombs. She was somewhere near the Baron's House when she felt two rabbit feet kick her in the face. Fiona fell to the ground, she had a busted lip and was pretty sure she got a black eye.
"Hey Fiona." said a familiar southern accent.
Fiona looked up to see Bunnie, but she somehow didn't have roboticized limbs anymore and she was more muscular than when they had last met.
"Bunnie? What are you doing here? Aren't you a Freedom Fighter?" asked Fiona in confusion.
"Oh, ah just went ta go an' visit family is all. Helped around da house an' started workin' out. But since when did you care? Where's Scourge?" Bunnie said scornfully.
"I broke up with him. He left me for dead." said Fiona.
"Real shocker there." said Bunnie sarcastically.
"Listen, I'm sorry about everything. I became someone I wasn't." she said.
Bunnie didn't seem to buy it as she cracked her knuckles ready for a fight.
Then the bombs went off. As Bunnie looked around at the destruction Fiona was already leaving.
"I'm sorry Bunnie, I really am." Fiona said sadly while looking back at Bunnie.
As she met up with Shirou he noticed her beat up face and the sad look in her eyes and asked her what happened.
"I saw a friend." she said.
Shirou and Fiona then traveled across the desert setting up camp whenever night fell. Then they took a boat to Station Square to take a flight back to Empire City. As they got there Shirou couldn't help but notice a newspaper saying something about a Black Comet appearing in the sky. He couldn't help but wonder what that was about.
Meanwhile
Dr Finitevus replayed the recorded footage of the fight from that night. To think Sonic had such an affinity for negative energy. Perhaps his ability to remain unaffected by his hex on the Master Emerald had been tied to that somehow. The phenomenon required further study. But that was for another time.
He then turned to his current project hidden underneath a tarp. It would be his latest attempt to destroy the world and remake it as it should be. He had only needed Scourge and the Destructix to gather the primary components. He was fully capable of handling the rest.
"If only they knew why I needed all that Anarchy Beryl." he chuckled to himself.
He removed the tarp revealing an Anarchy Beryl Bomb.
New Mobotropolis Detention Center
The Destructix were having their injuries treated in prison. Sergeant Simian and Predator Hawk only had casts in certain areas while Lightning Lynx and Flying Frog had full-body casts.
"I can't feel my everything bone!" said Flying Frog in-between fits of laughter.
Sergeant Simian was furious, Scourge and Fiona Fox had ditched them after the fight with Sonic and the Freedom Fighters. Now here they were locked up in prison. He had only one thing on his mind, Revenge!
Freedom Fighter HQ
Sally was sitting on the couch next to Sonic who held her hand.
"Sonic, do you still love me?" Sally asked.
"What, of course I love you! Why would you even think that?" he asked with a look of shock on his face.
"It's just that during the night of the fight Fiona said that you'd lose interest in me because I was a robian." she said.
"Don't listen to that she was just trying to get in your head." said Sonic.
"Yeah, you're right I shouldn't have let that get to me." she said with a smile.
Somewhere Unknown
Mephiles The Dark remembered the previous timeline vividly how he had been on the cusp of total victory only to be erased from existence only for a fragment of him to remain then he remembered rotting away in the No Zone Prison for a time until that fool Fiona Fox deactivated his collar allowing his powers and previous personality to resurface allowing him to escape. Now he was free to plot his revenge on the Cosmos. The Sol Emeralds were the key, for they seemed to contain traces of Iblis. He would be sure to thank Fiona before destroying everything she ever knew.
