Chapter 38
Thoughts From An Expectant Teenage Father
Personal Blog of Chandler Bing
In my last post, I talked about my childhood. With this one, I will be telling all of you how I got together with my now wife. It is not a fairytale version that you are all expecting.
I met my now wife when I was ten after I moved to town with my dads. I had met her older brother first when I walked upon a group of kids from school picking on him because they thought that he was a geek. I stopped the group of bullies and we became fast friends. A few days later, he took me to his house to hang out and that's where I met his younger sister. She also had a friend over and they both kept running around the house, going room to room, bothering us, and just being so very annoying (Don't worry, I have her permission to write this.).
So I did everything I could to avoid her whenever I was over. If she came into the same room that I was in, I made any excuse I could think of to leave that room as soon as possible. It may seem that I didn't like her back then, but I had no problem with her as a person. I just needed my space and liked the quiet sometimes.
Throughout the next several years, we both learned to at least respect each other when we were around each other. Then the events of last year happened. It started with her best friend since she was five telling her that she no longer had time for her in her life because she was now a cheerleader and would rather hang out with her new, popular, superficial friends. Gone were the days of her running around the house whenever I was over. Now she was eerily quiet, staying in her room, and crying whenever I saw her.
I started making it a point to ask her to join me and her brother whenever I was over. She usually said no because back then she did not get along with her brother. So at school, I started eating lunch with her. I started asking her questions and really getting to know her for the first time since I first met her. We both shared our deepest, long-buried feelings about everything. When the Spring Fling dance came around, I knew she was the only one that I wanted to ask. I eventually worked up the courage and was surprised when she said yes.
My dads of course made a big deal of this when I told them. I am not a big fan of dances so I never went to any unless my dads made me go to them. Even then, I would just stay hidden away from the crowd until it was time to get picked up. With this dance, my dads made a huge deal of it. They took me shopping for a new tux, made sure I got ready in plenty of time the night of the dance, and took plenty of pictures of us. It was a great night for both me and her, as we became an official couple a few weeks later.
However, there were two people in particular who were not happy about the relationship. That would be my wife's parents. They are uncomfortable with my dads and think that we are all trying to corrupt her as well as her brother. They forbid either of them from hanging out at our house, but my wife still came over so long as my dads were home. We abided by my dads rules when it came to dating; for the most part.
With the addition of a couple more people to the house, which I will get into later, it was difficult to be able to get any alone time together. Especially since we both started working the moment that we were legally allowed to. I didn't want my dads to pay for everything if I was able to earn money on my own, and she had to pay for everything she wanted because her parents refused to.
Which lead to us finding creative ways to have time alone….
**I am stopping this post here. The next post will most likely be a lengthy one.
Until next Time.
Chandler walked out of his class and headed towards the office. Monica was meeting him there so they could go to their doctor's appointment together. Both of his dads said that they would be there for the appointment, but Chandler knew that there was always a chance that his dad would get caught up with work and forget. He stopped at his locker to drop off the books that he wouldn't need and retrieve the ones that he would. Since it was the second to last class of the day, they would not be coming back after their appointment.
Chandler opened the door to the main office and saw Monica already waiting for him. He smiled at her as he signed himself out and they spotted the principal coming from his office.
"We have an appointment," Chandler stated before he could say anything. "I have no problem calling my dads or my Uncle Stan."
"Let's go," Monica started to pull him away. "He can't stop us. We are both legal adults, and we have an appointment that we need to get to."
They both walked out of the office as the bell rang and the hallway was flooded with their classmates heading towards their next class. Chandler nudged Monica and gestured to Rachel surrounded by her boyfriend and all their friends. Rachel locked eyes with Monica, who turned away as she and Chandler made their way out to the parking lot. They climbed into Chandler's car as he had driven them that day, and he pulled out of the parking lot.
Chandler followed Monica inside the Family Center and spotted Terry sitting in a chair right next to Charles. Chandler heaved a sigh of relief as Monica gave him a look as if to say 'I told you so' and went to the front desk to check in.
"You guys are early," Terry commented. "So no problems?"
"The principal came out of his office as we were starting to leave," Chandler told them. "But I said I would call you or Uncle Stan if they tried to stop us."
"Good," Terry nodded as Monica came back and joined them.
"You came," Chandler looked at his dad.
"This one decided to set multiple alarms on my phone so that I wouldn't forget, which I wouldn't have." Charles told them.
"I didn't want him to use the excuse of getting caught up with work and forgetting."
"We're glad you're here," Monica told them.
"Monica Bing, we're ready for you," the nurse called out.
Chandler and Monica stood up and started towards the back. Charles and Terry followed behind them and waited out in the hall with Chandler as Monica changed into a gown. After a few minutes, the nurse came back to do the initial checkup with checking her weight and asking if either of them had any concerns.
Monica was sitting on the exam table when the door opened and Dr. Whilcomb came in to them.
"Hello," she greeted the group. "Charles, it's good to see you."
"You too," he smiled back.
"So Monica, has there been any morning sickness recently?"
"Actually no," She smiled. "I've haven't felt any nausea in the last several days. I've had a lot more energy too."
"This is around the time those symptoms should start to fade," the doctor made a note in Monica's chart. "But you get to look forward to more other fun symptoms."
"Such as?" Chandler spoke up.
"Headaches, dizziness…."
"What fun," Monica said.
"As always, rely on others when you feel overwhelmed. I hear there's plenty of people in that house you live in,"
"Just a few,"
"If you could lay back, I can check on the baby. Make sure everything is good."
"Will we be able to hear the heartbeat?" Chandler asked.
"It's a possibility," Dr. Wilcomb smiled at him.
"I told you," Terry whispered to Charles. "He's very excited and wants to be involved in everything."
"What about the baby's development?" Monica asked. "Is it developing ok?"
"Right now, your baby is about the size of a plum," Dr. Wilcomb told her. "The fingers are separated and no longer webbed. The eyes, nose, and fingernails are starting to form…."
"All that is going on right now?" Chandler asked.
"Are you able to determine gender right now?" Terry asked as he and Charles came over to the exam table.
"He wants to plan a gender reveal," Monica said.
"I wouldn't trust it this early," Dr. Wilcomb smiled at the group as he ran the doppler wand across Monica's stomach.
Suddenly, a faint sound was heard coming from the ultrasound machine. Dr. Wilcomb turned up the volume and Chandler and Monica smiled.
"Is that the baby?" Monica asked.
"Yes," Dr. Wilcomb smiled at her. "That is one strong heartbeat."
Terry and Charles joined in the excitement as Monica and Chandler gushed over the precious moment. Terry noticed that Dr. Wilcomb's face scrunched up in concern before the others did.
"Is everything ok?" he asked her and the others spotted her facial expression too.
"Is there a history of multiples in the family?" she asked them.
"My brother and his wife have ten-year-old twins," Charles said.
"What's going on?" Chandler asked.
"I am detecting two separate heartbeats,"
After they all returned to the house after the appointment, Chandler and Monica closed themselves up in their room while Charles and Terry retreated to Charles' office and had a quiet conversation. Joey and Phoebe arrived home to an eerily quiet house and tried to find out what was going on.
Chandler sat at his desk and started a video call. He waited for someone to answer as Monica sat numb on the bed behind him. Finally, Chandler's aunt Sherrie appeared on the screen. Her smile faded once she saw their expressions.
"Is everything ok?" she asked the couple.
"Not really," Chandler told her. "Something happened at the doctor's office."
"Is the baby ok?"
"The babies are fine," Chandler revealed.
"Babies? More than one?"
"Twins," Monica spoke up. "The doctor detected more than one heartbeat."
"Did they do a sonogram to make sure?" Sherrie asked.
"Oh yes," Monica took it out of her purse and Chandler held it up to the web cam.
"Don't freak out," Sherrie told them. "It's not the end of the world."
"We can't help it," Chandler said. "We were fine when it was one baby. I mean as fine as we could be for potential teen parents. Now there's another baby."
"Just calm down," Sherrie told the couple. "I can give you both some things that will help you. I kept James and Jenna's old things. You are more than welcome to it. I also have books, resources, websites that you can go through."
Sherrie continued to calm the couple down as Charles and Terry had a video call with Max downstairs. Ross and Carol arrived and they waved them upstairs.
"That was weird," Ross stated as they reached the top of the stairs and saw Phoebe and Joey outside of Monica and Chandler's room with their ears pressed against the door.
"What are you guys doing?" Carol asked as they reached them.
"Shh," Phoebe shushed them. "They're talking to Chandler's Aunt Sherrie."
"Why?"
"They found out that they're having twins," Joey told them.
"What? Are you serious?" Ross asked.
"They're serious," Chandler swung open the door. "You guys can come in."
The four of them filed into the room where Monica was sitting on the bed in a daze. They all sat around the expectant couple as they all tried to process the latest events.
"So…." Carol started. "Twins?"
"Yeah," Monica said softly.
"How are you doing with all of this?" Ross sat next to his sister.
"We're still processing," Chandler told him. "I'd say ask us in a week or two."
"Or a month," Monica said.
"So change of subject?" Phoebe asked.
"Yes please,"
"Then can we tell you about how Rachel is being outcast at school since Chandler's lastest blog post was published?" Joey spoke up.
"Seriously?" Chandler looked at him. "Just from my blog? I didn't post her name."
"Everyone connected the dots," Phoebe told him.
"They all know that you two were friends forever," Carol told them. "And then suddenly you weren't."
"It's kind of entertaining," Phoebe admitted. "No offense."
Downstairs in the den, Charles and Terry continued their video call with Max. It was a lot of Max calming down the other two as they unloaded on him.
"Would you guys relax?" Max interrupted their rant. "Yes, your son is a married expectant teenage father and is now expecting twins, which do run in the family, but it will be fine."
"How can you be sure?" Charles asked his brother.
"Because he has an amazing family to support them both. The same family who supported me and Sherrie and calmed us down when we also freaked out when we were told that we were having twins."
"Ok, we needed that," Terry sighed.
"You're welcome," Max smirked. "Sherrie is planning to come down this weekend with everything that we kept from the kids anyway. We'll make a day of it as a family."
"About that," Charles took the phone back. "Could you come a little earlier than the rest of your family? It's about your nephew's well-being."
"You know that I would do anything for that kid. So what's going on?"
"It involves the ex and the bastard who put your nephew in the hospital."
"What about them?" Charles and Terry started telling Max the most recent series of events surrounding Chandler.
AN: I hope you all liked this chapter. I decided to go back and look at the polls that I posted for this story when I first started it, and everyone who voted wanted me to follow the show and have Monica and Chandler be parents of twins. PLZ R&R!
