Chapter 11
"I'm so sorry," Sonic cried as Eggman pulled back the couch.
"I couldn't save them…they…they were stillborn." Eggman nodded and looked down. Thankfully, Sonic covered everything up with a blanket. He wouldn't be able to bear seeing anything else dead again. The doctor knew how stubborn and strong the hedgehog was- but ever since he started staying here he softened. Not to mention he gained tons of weight. But he was more…feminine like too.
But now all of that was lost. Sonic had that look back in his eyes. Hatred and anger at the doctor. Eggman guessed a bit of Fleetway did remain.
"It's no one's fault," Sonic muttered as his tears stopped. Something in him probably snapped and now he was acting like his old self again. It's not like Eggman was complaining, he enjoyed the old Sonic. But these dead people around them was heart aching. Just why wasn't Eggman or Sonic suffering as much as a person should?
"I think I want to go home," Sonic mumbled to no one in particular. Eggman nodded again, not daring to speak. He didn't want to upset the hedgehog anymore.
"We…we shouldn't ever bring this up again. Ever."
"But…Ivo-"
"I don't know what you plan on doing with him either." Sonic just sat there staring into space. Of course, Eggman knew why he wanted to leave. It was the guilt of three deaths that stabbed inside him.
"You weren't responsible for these-"
"I know. You were." Sonic just continued staring off, not even giving Eggman the slightest look. Eggman really felt the anger in that one and went up to Sonic.
"It might have been but I do…I do respect and love you. You might not believe it anymore but I do."
"Ok." Sonic didn't flinch. This was one of the very few times Eggman's ever said this to him, but now probably wasn't a good time. A small whimpering came from behind the couch, neither noticing it.
"I'll take the three of them and…ahem…dispose of them."
"Do whatever." That was probably the most coldest thing that Eggman ever heard leave the hedgehog's mouth. Was he taking this all too hard?
"Why are you being like this, Sonic?"
"I'm still in pain ok!"
"Wait…what?"
"It still hurts, alright? Now leave me be!" Eggman gasped.
"Sonic…I think you might have been expecting triplets!" Then another wail let out and Eggman turned, going over to the couch, inspecting behind it. A small blue bundle of fur lied there mewling helplessly.
"One's alive! You never checked-"
"What?" Sonic seemed surprised, watching as Eggman slowly picked it up. It hissed lightly as he brought it over to him.
"Here."
"…What am I supposed to do with it?"
"Uhhh, motherly things?"
"Does it look like I'm a woman to you!" Sonic was right, he might've been somehow in some freakishly way by nature able to give birth- but that never ment he could feed them and such.
"Well I'll take this one and take you to be checked for an extra, now come on to my lab!" Sonic nodded but quickly ran over to Ivo. Sadly, he dragged him along.
"What're you doing?"
"I promised him he'd be the first to see them."
xXxXx
After about another two hours, Sonic birthed another young hedgehog, this one having soft brown-orange-like fur like Eggman's mustache.
"Well what are they?" He asked putting Ivo gently in some blankets near the lab table. Sonic had rested on the table, curled up under a nice heat lamp.
"One's a little boy and the other's a lovely little girl." Sonic lightly smiled.
"Name suggestions?" Eggman asked.
"Hmmm I like the name Amber for the little one." Eggman nodded and thought to himself for a while.
"How about we call him," holding up the little blue one, "Maurice? You know after your middle name since you refuse to tell me your first name." Sonic chuckled and nodded.
"Yeah, Maurice sounds nice. And don't you worry Eggy, you'll NEVER know my first name."
The both of them just stared at each other silently, realizing for the first time, this was it. No more fighting, no more hate, no more battles. Both of them felt the feeling of how much they're going to miss it. Even the infants seemed to be a bit sad too as if they knew what was going on.
"I guess…we're done." Sonic said a bit depressingly.
"Yeah, I guess we are."
"So…"
"Yeah?"
"How does a little fight sound? I say the winner gets first dibs on being 'World's Best Dad'." Sonic said smirking.
"You're on," Eggman grinned.
