Hey! So, this is just a simple idea of mine. A Modern AU.

"Altair finds a small boy underneath a bridge and decides to take him in... will he regret it? Or will he take good care of his new baby brother?" A Desmond and Altair based fanfic, brotherly love! Rated T.

Okay, well I hope you enjoy the Prologue.

Important A/N: (11th of Feb, 2014): This story has been changed to third person, well because I now find that easier than first person for some reason. Oh and I am so sorry for the long wait... life you know. Improvements have been made to most of the sentences, so reading the prologue again is recommended.

Prologue:
"Lost Dog"

"Kindness will sometimes come from the person that you least expect it too, a person dose have until the day they die to prove you wrong. Give them a chance."

- Unknown.

Where the hell was it? Altair had looked everywhere, Gods, Malik was surely going to kill him when he found out Altair had already lost his dog. Even if his dog was kind of... deformed, and not to mention that he only had one eye and his fur looked as if he hadn't been washed in seven months. Altair knew Malik had taken very good care of his... dog. However, to Altair no matter how much you may have washed that damned dog his fur would attract everything dirty to it. Yes, to Altair Malik's dog was a pain in the ass, but there was nothing he could say or do about it. Malik wouldn't have any of it. Because no matter how much work that dog was for him, he loved it... for some reason. But Altair wouldn't argue with him about it anymore, he always lost and there was just no point in staring something with that man anymore.

But, now he had lost it. And then at that moment he realized something: Altair had never even asked Malik what his name was. Shit... how was he supposed to call him if he didn't know what his name was? Altair ran passed the 'old under bridge.'

Wow... Altair thought. Why would I walk any dog in this area?

Even though Altair knew that this place was quite a horrible place to live in or even come too. Gangs ruled over most of it. There was knife or gun fights almost every other night and the streets seemed to be in a worst condition every year. Due to the fact that builders were too scared to actually come here and make any repairs. That's how bad it was, there weren't even any policemen patrolling anymore. Yeah, over six police personal had been killed in the last six months alone and you know what? They had just given up on this place completely. Altair didn't even blame them either. This place was just fucked up. Altair had always had a bad time with the police force, but with this place... he felt sorry for the poor bastards that had to go through it on a Saturday night.

He looked over at the 'old under bridge' it was one of the oldest and one of the last standing structures in this whole area. The only reason people here had named it what they had is because you could go under it. Altair couldn't believe it either, it was really that simple? Well, Altair knew that no one would be surprised if they knew some of the kinds of people who had lived here over the years. Some of them still did and Altair knew they were all still idiots from when he lived here.

Altair knew the only reason it hadn't fallen yet is because of the material it had been made with. He don't know what it was, but he knew whatever it was it had to be strong to last this long in this place, it hadn't been tended to for years, its old stone frame was beginning to be eaten away by the strong salt winds from the North and even though it had lasted this long... it would fall, soon, nothing manmade lasts forever. Malik had taught Altair that one years ago.

Altair stared to walk towards the old under bridge; he thought maybe Malik's dog had gone under it. It was a good possibility. He walked passed one of the pillars and jumped down into the under part of the bridge itself, it was further down that it looked and even as a kid Altair never came down this far; it was too dangerous, even for him. But still most kids around here would, and they would end up learning the hard way about how dangerous this bridge actually was.

There was nothing but bad memories for Altair from this dark place. He was glad that he'd left it all behind. But now he had to come past it every time he needed to get somewhere that was passed the main town centre where he lived. However, it had always been in a car when he had come past... Altair had not walked through. Not in years. Even for someone like him it was far too dangerous. The memories would end up killing him, even someone as strong minded as Altair.

Like he had told so many people there were just too many bad memoires from this place to even think about walking back through it. The only reason he had come through in the first place today is because Malik wanted him to take his dog to the fields. This just happened to be outside the town centre. Malik normally had someone else do it because he knew what Altair had gone through and even more so, what he had gone through to get away from this place. But he had no one else to turn too, and Altair promised he would always lend a hand to him, if he needed him. Coming through here was one of those things. However, Altair would always take his car to the fields so he didn't have to walk through this place. But his car was in for service, so for Malik he would brave walking through. He owed Malik a lot for what he had done for him over the years after the death of his parents and brothers. He would do this one thing for him in return.

Altair sighed, this place stank, and there wasn't any more room and you could no longer see the grass that used to be under here, it was beneath all this crap people had dumped down here over the years.

People were just too scared to come here, so it never got cleaned and the people here were never going to do it.

Huh! Altair grunted. They wouldn't have known how.

He looked around, it was dark, too dark. Even with the dim daylight that was just outside its walls; the under part of the bridge was too dark to see anything. This was going to be a challenge, Altair had amazing eye sight, but he had to find a small dog in a big and very dark place. Unless he wanted his head to roll he would have to find a way to deal with the problem. You could probably of telled how smart Altair was from what he was trying to accomplish right now. Malik would not be impressed or assumed by this.

After about half an hour of searching Altair was ready to give up.

Maybe if I gtt Malik a new dog he won't be so angry? Altair smiled to himself for a second.

However, he then soon realised that Malik was still going to be pretty pissed off about it all. There was really no way of Altair getting out of this, not this time. But it wasn't just about that. Altair knew that this dog had saved Malik a lot of heart ache over the years. Altair's heart dropped into my stomach. He didn't want to do this. He didn't want to tell about this. He would never forgive himself and he doubted Malik would ever forgive him either. Altair knew he had already made too many mistake by him. Plus, it had taken Altair months to come up with the strength to say sorry to him for the last mistake he had made.

God dammit! Altair knew now he had to find that dog!

Another hour soon passed and Altair realized that I hadn't even checked a quarter of this place. It may have been a bridge, but it had a huge underground to it. This was going to take forever. He really didn't have time to...

BANG! - Altair stopped moving.

What the hell was that? He looked in the direction of the noise. Altair wasn't going to lie to himself, that noise made me jump out of his skin. He hadn't seen that coming, nor had he expected it, not on his life.

He soon decided that maybe it would be best to check the source of the noise. It may have been Malik's dog. He stared to slowly walk in the direction that the sound had come from, he still couldn't see very well, but my eyes had adjusted to the dark a little. So I should be alright... he just wasn't sure what was gonna come out a him.

Altair would think he wasn't frightened of most things, but... even he had his limits. Water was a massive one for him and the dark was another; even Malik didn't know that one. Well, Malik if he saw him now might have be able to figure that one out on his own. Altair knew he was smart enough too... which to Altair was a good enough reason for not telling him if he even asked. It's not as if Altair feared it as much as he did water. Yes, he just felt uncomfortable in dark places. With Altair's dark past his imagination had a lot to do with the fear he had. "The imagination is your enemy in the dark, it makes you see and hear things that you don't want to know, it tears you from the real world..." Altair's mother had told him that one before she died. Altair had loved his mother and the thought of seeing her in the dark broke him a little each time he thought it. He had lost her in a very dark and lonely time in his life... It was his worst fear.

"Where the fuck did it-"

BANG! - Shit!

This time it was loader, so Altair knew he was getting closer to it, but the more he got closer... Wait. He then remembered that he had a torch in his bag. All this time- Shit! He pulled his rucksack off his shoulder and stared to feel through it; after he had found it Altair dropped his bag on the floor and turned the torch on. It wasn't great, but it was better than it had been beforehand.

How could I have forgotten that?! Idiot.

Now... "Who's there." Altair now felt brave enough to shout. But the fear of his imagination showing his mother to him was still there. But he still flashed his light along the ground in front of him. He saw something move in the corner of his eye and he quickly looked round to see a huge cardboard box in the far distance in a small corner and he noticed that the light outside shone brightly around that area, he turned his torch off and began to carful tread towards the cardboard box. Still trying not to make a sound so I didn't scare anything away.

There was defiantly something there...

BANG! - "Fuck!"
