The Next Place
The next place was completely different. For one there was no loud music attacking their eardrums. To Hiei and Kurama specially, and to an extent Yuusuke, the change was welcome. Instead of hard rock, here there was slow Japanese music at its best. It was one of those subtly lighted, dark orangy-yellowy places. And it had style. Kurama grudgingly acknowledged that Yuusuke knew how to keep them interested.
Hiei liked this new place. It was dim and dark and quite. And, it had the cutest waitresses. He smiled. Human girls, he admitted to himself, were rather pretty. The one with the cat costume now. And the red curls. She was quite, quite, interesting. He noted with pleasure that the rest of the group was moving towards her table.
Kira looked at the set moving towards her table. They were the common teen lot. However there was something different about them. She couldn't quite put her finger on it. And then there was that guy. He was last and shorter than the rest so she hadn't seen him till then. He had the normal punk hairstyle and was looking at her with the same look as she'd seen in a hundred other customers but his look was somehow different. There was something hypnotic about him. He wasn't just staring. He was, he was drinking her in and she had a feeling that he suddenly new everything about her. She found herself looking at him when asking for their order. She suddenly found herself blushing and confused as she realised this. She was quite glad to get their order and escape. As she left, she heard the boy in black teasing the one with the spiky black hair. He called him Hiei.
"Hiei..."
"Wellllll Hiei." Yuusuke smirked.
Kurama was smirking too. "How did you know Hiei?" he asked.
"Know what?" was Hiei's response.
Yuusuke's and Kurama's exasperating smirks grew wider. "Maybe he's a natural, Kurama." Yuusuke said. "Or maybe he's been holding out on us." This was Kurama.
"What're you both talking bout?" This, of course, was Hiei who was getting annoyed without knowing exactly why. Not that he ever cared much about why he got angry.
"Well Hiei," Kurama said, "Yuusuke brought us here, cause the waitresses shift ends in about another 20 min and it's an awesome opportunity to find us some friends to keep us company through the long night."
"Yeah," Yuusuke continued, "it isn't any good having a party with no friends you know. You need someone to bawl all your problems at when you get drunk. And to dance with when you feel crazy. And to drive you home when you pass out."
"And you need someone you know wont rip you off while you are dead to the world." Kurama said moodily and Yuusuke howled.
"Ah I wonder what the inhabitants of Makai will say if they heard that the great Youko Kurama had been ripped off while he passed out."
"Shut up, Yuusuke."
Just then the waitress came back with their drinks. "What's with all the non-alcoholic stuff?" Kuwabara asked.
"You wait Kuwabara. We're not gonna get drunk before the real party starts. And since we've got three guys who've never had some booze we've got to celebrate their coming of age properly. Besides, you yourself really haven't had anything thats real. Other than some beer and sake and you know beer and diluted sake don't count. "
"Hey!"
"Hush kids. Hiei and his cat are back at it." Koenma said with a superior look.
"Kids!" came the outraged reaction from Kuwabara. Yuusuke was a bit more vocal "You bastard, you walk around like some friggin 2 year old most of the time and you call US kids!"
"Quite Yuusuke," said Kurama in a bored voice. "If you're done then we could get a move on you know. I was under the impression that we didn't have much time here."
"Hmph. You're right. Come on lets go."
Once outside Yuusuke led them to the back entrance out of which the waitresses were pouring out. Giggling and laughing. Only Hiei's waitress was silent. Until she saw Hiei. Then her eyes suddenly shone.
"Woah Hiei. I think you'd better go slow with that one. That's one hell of a crush she's got on you." Yuusuke whispered as he noticed the look. "Poor thing. She must have fallen and hit her head today or something." Was Kuwabara's outlook. Hiei didn't even waste a glare in his direction. Fools will be fools. He went to go and call her along.
When they came back Kuwabara suddenly realised that Koenma was nowhere to be seen. "Hey Urameshi," he said. "You seen Koenma? Seems to have vanished."
"We should probably go back and check. He is the spirit world's ruler." Kurama was a tad worried.
"And an adolescent. He's probably just chatting a girl up." Came the spirit detective's unconcerned reply. But they went back to check. Sure enough, Koenma was talking to a pretty little thing who looked uncommonly like Botan. Same blue hair and pink clothes. For a second they thought it was Botan and turned to run but realised that it couldn't be cause Koenma wouldn't be so unconcerned otherwise.
So Yuusuke went up to him and said "Hey you coming? You can finish that conversation later."
"In the car?" Koenma asked coolly.
Yuusuke was a bit taken aback at Koenma's in control attitude but said carelessly "If you want."
And so it turned out that both Hiei and Koenma got their dates for the night.
