The house was mostly free of dirt and cobwebs by the time Sakura finished her cleaning spree. She had also found the fuse box near what looked to be the basement steps, and flipped on every switch, filling the house with light. Someone must've come here before them somewhat recently, because there was no way lightbulbs lasted that long, she thought. All the while she had been working, Kabuto remained seated upon the small couch. He appeared lost in thought when Sakura finally returned to the living room.
"We have light," She stated with a short glance around the room. "Just wish I'd found that fuse box before I started doing everything."
Kabuto's gaze trailed up to her, his expression one of boredom. "I see that," he said simply, lifting his head from where he'd been resting it on his hand.
"This place is still quite a dump,"
Sakura crossed her arms over her chest in slight annoyance. "Still not enough to beat living in a musty old dungeon, huh?"
He lifted one shoulder carelessly, clearly in no mood to argue. Sakura went to retrieve her bag she'd left by the table, setting it down on the surface to rummage through its contents. She pulled out a small box of leftover rice cakes from the day prior, looking in the gray-haired man's direction briefly.
"There's no way you aren't hungry, so, here," she held out one of the small cakes, and Kabuto lifted himself from his place on the couch to accept her offering.
"Obviously there's no other food here, so tomorrow I'll go into the village to stock up." She told him before turning away towards the door. After riling up all of that dust, she was in need of some fresh air. The night was so calm and slightly cool, and as Sakura closed the door behind her, her attention was immediately stolen away by the sight of the moon. She had never really taken the time to watch the sky at night, being so caught up in other events. As she stared at the luminescent orb in the sky, her thoughts were drawn back to the man currently sitting inside the house behind her, despite the desire to think of anything but him. The things he had told her actually seemed to line up with his cooperative attitude when the team brought him back to the village, but Sakura still had the feeling that something was off about him, and she wouldn't soon forget who he was. Kabuto was a man capable of wearing multiple masks to hide his true self, that much was obvious.
With a deep sigh, Sakura turned around to head back inside the old house. Once she entered, an odd feeling came over her — Kabuto was gone. She slowly began to move through each room, not knowing what to expect. When she got to the basement door, her hand shook with hesitation as she reached for the doorknob. It was dark down there, and of course it was the only room with no electric lighting, but she couldn't let that stop her.
"Kabuto?" Her voice cut through the silent darkness, she stepped down carefully, leaving the door open behind her to shed at least some light onto the stairway. Sakura continued down into the eerie stone room, the smell of mildew and mud was heavy in the air, causing her to bring a hand up to her mouth momentarily. Luckily, the first thing she noticed upon entering the dark room was the illuminated outline of a door, telling her that Kabuto had found his way down here after all.
She neared the door and raised a hand to give two light knocks as she called his name again, the door creaking open almost immediately.
"Afraid I made my great escape, huh?" Kabuto asked with sarcasm, standing aside to allow Sakura into the room. She thought of making a witty comeback, but was taken aback at the sight of the room she now stood in. It was much cleaner than the rest of the house upstairs, being made entirely of stone likely helped. It was larger than the living room, and tables lined the walls. In the farthest corner was a neatly made cot. She glanced at him before fully turning to look at him.
"What do you suppose this place was used for?" She asked, making a mental note to ask the Hokage just that. Kabuto only shrugged before he moved across the room to open a very thin window with a screen in place. Cool air immediately did away with the moldy, musty scent.
"I'm not so sure, but I like it down here."
Sakura almost wanted to laugh. Just how weird was this guy? He lived in many subterranean bunkers over the years, finally gets the chance to live in a somewhat normal house, and chooses the basement. "It's just your style," she murmured, turning away to hide her amusement.
