A/N: Set during New Moon when Bella chases Edward through the woods in an attempt to find him after he leaves her.
Chapter 8
Bella's POV-
"Have fun on your honeymoon!"
The two of us were ruthlessly pushed into the cab by an over-enthusiastic Alice, grinning faces cheering in delight as we embarked on a journey neither of us chose.
"Make some cuties baby!" Edward teased, standing beside his wife.
Ew.
It felt weird to hear Edward of all tease me about sex with another man. Had we been in my universe…
"Edward!" Alice playfully chided. "There is plenty of time for that. Have all the wild sex you want, is what you mean."
Yeah, I really don't want to know what he means!
"Um…whatever, can we go now?" I suggested, pointing towards the steering wheel, our driver impatiently glaring at his watch.
"Ooo." Alice teased. "Someone is excited to go on their honeymoon!"
"Whatever you want to think." I waved her off, proceeding to inform the cab driver that we were ready to leave. I had absolutely no patience for dumb and dumber.
It was strange. The more time I spent with the Alice and Edward of this universe, the more I appreciated not being born in this universe. This entire universe was warped…and crazy…and seriously fucking awkward. Charlie and Esme were all lovey-dovey, kissing all around the house. And as if that sight wasn't enough to gross me out, we had an extroverted Edward talking about feelings and emotions…and crochet.
He was simply so different from the Edward that I had known. He was…human and ordinary.
I wasn't used to seeing him like that.
He had been all kinds of extra-ordinary in my world!
Also, he was an amazing father in this one, from what I had come to observe. He adored his three children, loving them with his entire heart and soul. It hurt to see him like that. I couldn't give him that.
I would tell him about this universe though, once I got back to ours.
He would like to know that a human version of him- well, not exactly him in the behavior aspect- did exist in a parallel universe.
Carlisle would be the most interested of all to know about my escapades in the universes. He would bother with the how and the why, having all these theories about the possibilities of multiverse traveling. Emmett would be excited. He would have all sorts of pranks that can be played with this window of opportunity. Jasper and Rosalie wouldn't be as enthusiastic…or at least they wouldn't show it in front of me. They hardly acknowledged my presence anyhow. Esme would be…glad to have me back. It wouldn't matter to her the journey that I had crossed to reach her. And Alice…she would probably be the most excited of all, attempting to find a means to witness the visions of another universe.
Sigh. I missed my family.
"You okay?" Sam enquired, a small smile crossing my face at the concern that shone on his.
I shrugged. "I really want to go back to my universe. It wasn't perfect or even worth fawning over, but it was mine."
He hummed at that. "I get what you mean. I hated my life. I was the deadbeat unemployed son with an ex-girlfriend who preferred to date women after dating him. The jokes that have been made of me…" he let out a humorless laugh, trailing off.
"I am sorry."
He waved me off. "Anyhow, like I was saying, there were several moments when I hated my life, but amidst all those moments, were some when I loved it, too. It was familiar. I had chosen that life. The decisions that I made were all mine. But in this universe…"
"You didn't choose it." I completed his sentence.
"Exactly." He hummed.
"Is that why you didn't jump at the opportunity that imprinting presented in front of you?" I was curious to know the answer.
"Partly, yes." He answered. "I want it to be my choice. I chose Leah. I want to chose the one who will be my wife."
"I can appreciate that."
"Well," he sighed. "At least, I had thought that I would get to choose the one that would be my wife…"
"Hey." I cut him off. "This is not our universe; the things that happen here are not real."
They were. But we weren't counting those.
"Yes. It should be like that." he climbed on board instantly.
"It is." I stated in agreement.
"So, we just go on this vacation and have fun?"
"Yup. It is not a honeymoon if you don't want it to be." I proposed. "We are just going on a vacation."
"Like friends." He stated.
"Yes. Like friends." I echoed.
It wasn't a honeymoon. We weren't married in our own eyes, even if this world believed us to be married. We were friends…and that was enough.
"So, New York?"
"Yup." I smiled in excitement.
The Sam of this universe had splurged on his honeymoon, an all-expenses paid trip to New York booked. Everything had been planned, all that remained was to pack a bag and leave the house.
And it would be a crime to waste that!
"We are really doing this, aren't we?" he laughed. "Going on a honeymoon as friends."
"We are going to have fun." I winked at him.
"Indeed." He winked back at me.
