Summary: Dwayne Libbydale tells Jack that half the town shipped 'Bammy' at one point. It doesn't go the way he thinks it will.
Easter Egg: Chevron Egg, Day: 28. "You're the only one I want."
Delusional
Sammy leant on Ben's shoulder. Across the bar, Lily was giggling into her drink as she watched them, and Sammy caught her eye and winked.
Usually when he tried to use Ben as a 'leaning post', he got chewed out and a sulking best friend for at least a few hours, but Ben was so happy right now that he was giving even this a pass.
Sammy couldn't blame him.
He'd asked Emily to marry him not an hour ago, and the lovely librarian had said yes. Tears were plenty in the bar when it happened—even Sammy himself had shed a few—and the euphoric mood was continuing into the night.
Sammy was listening to Ben and Ron bantering when Lily caught his eye again. She nodded over to the other side of the bar where Jack was standing with Dwayne Libbydale, seemingly deep in conversation.
Sammy arched his eyebrow at Lily and she shrugged and shook her head. Torn between wanting to go and see what was up, and letting Jack have his freedom, Sammy stayed where he was but kept a closer eye on his boyfriend.
Lily joined him soon after, and Sammy sighed in relief. The two of them might fight like cat and dog, but he knew Lily wouldn't let Dwayne fill Jack's head with shit.
…
Later that night, all of them in good spirits, they piled into the flat.
Sammy and Jack headed for their bedroom almost straight away. Jack was doing so well nowadays, but so much socialising still took a toll on him. Sammy was just glad it was his and Ben's night off from the station.
They climbed into bed, and Sammy lifted his arm automatically for Jack to snuggle into his side.
"Did you have fun?" Jack asked, drawing nonsensical patterns on Sammy's bare stomach.
"Sure. I'm so happy for Ben and Emily. Did you?"
Jack nodded. He was silent for long enough that Sammy thought he'd drifted off, and was about to do the same himself, when Jack spoke.
"I was talking to Dwayne… Libbydale earlier."
"Okay?"
"He told me that half the town 'ship' you and Ben together. It made me wonder a little bit if you and him… if anything…"
Sammy sighed. He was kind of impressed that Jack had been back for so long before asking if he was honest with himself. He and Ben shared a bond so close it was easy to understand why people questioned it.
But as close as that bond was, it was entirely and completely platonic. On both sides.
Wrapping his arms around Jack even tighter, Sammy replied, "Nothing romantic has ever been between Ben and I. He's been hung up on Emily since the very first day he met her, and, well, you're the only one I want. You're the only one I've ever wanted."
He felt Jack smile against his chest. "So I was right to tell Dwayne he was delusional then?"
Sammy laughed, he couldn't help himself. "Yes. Yes you were. You have no idea how right."
