I don't own RWBY. I own OC's.
Sorry if you find any grammar mistakes. I'm still learning English because it's not my first language.
It had been three weeks since David, team RWBY, Sun and Neptune headed into Vale for their little investigation in an attempt to find out more about Roman Torchwick's cooperation with the White Fang. Those three weeks went by really fast. David himself was surprised at how quickly all those days passed. There were even rumors of a dance coming the following weekend and many of schoolmates were excited for it.
As for what happened with him, Neptune and Sun on the the night their investigation took place. The answer to it was quite simple. After they were done eating their noodles, the three of them made their way back to Beacon where they parted ways and went into their dorms. After making his way back to his dorm, David stumbled upon his roommates who made it back there several minutes before him.
Upon reuniting with Ruby, Yang, Weiss and Blake in their dorm, his roommates made sure to fill him in about everything that happened after he, Sun and Neptune were knocked off the highway by Torchwick in the Paladin. His roommates managed to defeat Torchwick and destroyed his Paladin with their combined efforts, but unfortunely Torchwick managed to get away thanks to the arrival of his henchman. This information really made David wonder who this henchman was as his roommates didn't know much about them either other than the fact it was a woman.
David was currently in Glynda's classroom right now, observing how Pyrrha was sparring with all the members of team CRDN at the same time from the stands with his roommates. At the start of Glynda's combat class, Pyrrha was challenged by the entirety of team CRDN for a duel and their offer was accepted by Pyrrha. The duel began after all who would take part put on their armor and prepared their weapons.
As the duel continued, everyone could see that everything was not going according to team CRDN's plan as Pyrrha was effortlessly holding her own against all four of them. It was only a matter of time before the sparring would end with Pyrrha's victory and when it finally happened, Cardin was lying on the ground and clutching his rib and Pyrrha was standing over him.
"...And that's the match." Glynda said, walking over to Pyrrha and Cardin in order to congratulate Pyrrha on her victory.
Cardin looked up at Pyrrha, wincing in pain, "Lucky shot."
"Well done, Miss Nikos." Glynda congratulated as Cardin collapsed on the ground, "You should have no problem qualifying for the tournament."
"Thank you, Professor." Pyrrha acknowledged with a grateful look on her face, appreciating the praise.
Glynda pulled out her scroll and checked something on it, "Alright, now I know that's a tough act to follow, but we have time for one more sparring match." She looked around at the observing students, "Any volunteers?" She found no response as everyone stayed silent. After receivng nothing but silence from her students, she called out for one student herself, "Ms. Belladonna?"
Blake slammed her book shut and looked at Glynda with wide eyes, "W-What?"
"You've been rather docile for the past few classes. Why don't you..." Glynda cut off before she could finish what she was saying as in the end she managed to find one volunteer among her students.
Mercury raised his hand, "I'll do it."
"Mercury, is it?" Glynda wanted to be sure as she set her eyes on Mercury, adjusting her glasses. After Mercury gave her a nod of confirmation, she began tapping on her scroll in search for an opponent for him, "Very well, let's find you an opponent."
"Actually, I wanna fight her." Mercury replied, pointing at Pyrrha.
Pyrrha looked up at him with a suprised look on her face, "Me?"
Glynda shook her head at Mercury's request, "I'm afraid Miss Nikos has just finished the match. I recommend you choose another partner."
Pyrrha turned to look at Glynda, interested in fighting Mercury as she expected to have challenge this time, "No, it's fine! I'd be happy to oblige."
Glynda stared at Pyrrha for a few seconds, seeing she was willing to take her challenge. She nodded at her, giving her and Mercury her permission to start this fight, "Very well. Mercury. Come down here."
"This is going to be good." David stated as Mercury hopped down from the stands into the area.
After landing on the area, Mercury pushed himself into walk and started to walk across the area as he made sure to eye Pyrrha up and down. Their spar began a few seconds later as Mercury made his first move and charged towards Pyrrha. He swung his feet at her, trying to kick her as Pyrrha easily blocked it with her shield and knocked him to the floor. Mercury didn't thought much of it, though as he jumped back to his feet and backed away from Pyrrha.
Pyrrha lowered her shield and exchanged a glance with Mercury before charging towards him. Mercury once again began swinging his feet at her as she got near him, trying to land a kick on her as Pyrrha once again blocked all of his attacks with her shield. After blocking a couple more of them, she saw an opportunity to strike back and it was exactly what she did. She hit him with her shield, knocking him away from her as Mercury slided across the ground and stopped a few steps away from her before letting out an approving hum.
"He's good." David stated, watching the duel with an interested look on his face.
"Hey, your friend's doing pretty good." Ruby said as she turned around to look at Emerald. Emerald silently nodded at her with a smile on her face as Ruby turned away from her, setting her eyes back on the area.
Mercury unleashed a series of powerful strikes as Pyrrha allowed one of his kicks to slam against her forearm. Before Mercury managed to disarm her, a kick impaled her blade into the ground. She used her semblance to redirect the direction of Mercury's next kick. As she charged him with her shield with her shield in ready, he shoot off of it and turned his back to her. Pyrrha wasted no time and rushed towards Mercury again as Mercury glance at Glynda.
"I forfeit." He said, suprising everyone in the classroom as Pyrrha's eyes widened in suprise as she slowed down in her charge and stopped next to him.
Pyrrha raised her brow at him, " You don't even want to try?"
"What's the point?" Mercury shrugged, "You're a world-renowned fighter. We're obviously leagues apart."
"In that case... Pyrrha Nikos is the victor of the match... again." Glynda said. Mercury sneered smugly as Pyrrha looked at him with a disappointed and annoyed look on her face as she placed left hand on her hip, "Next time, you may want to think a little harder before choosing an opponent."
"I'll be sure to do that." Mercury replied, his smirk still visible on his face as he started to walk away from Pyrrha. It was when the alarm echoed across the classroom, jolting Blake awake.
"That is all for today. And remember, the dance is this weekend. But you all have your first mission on Monday. I will not accept any excuses." Glynda announced to her students.
All of her students showed their teacher her understanding of her words in their own ways by either voicing it or nodding their heads. Es everyone got up from their seats and left the classroom shorty after. David walked with next to Weiss, Ruby and Yang as all of them started to make their way towards the exit from the school building. Having noticed Blake was nowhere near them, he looked over hiss houlder and saw her Blake trailing behind him and her team with her nose buried in a book.
He looked at her with a worried look on his face, knowing this investigation was taking it's toll on her face, "Are you okay, Blake?"
Blake looked up from her book at him, "I'm fine. Why are you asking?"
"I'm just worried about you." David replied, not buying her answer as it was pretty obvious to him she was lying, "You look like you could use some sleep if you ask me. You even have dark spots under your eyes."
"No. Shut up." Blake coldly replied, burying her face in her book again as David shook his head, his worried expression refusing to leave his face.
The brown haired young man turned away from Blake, now looking ahead of himself as he knew he won't get anything out of his black haired roommate right now. David, Ruby, Yang, Weiss and Blake walked out of the school building a few seconds later and turned in the direction of their dorm. Not wasting any time, all of them started to make their way towards their dorm.
"Blake!" Sun's voice sounded behind Blake a few seconds after David and team RWBY walked out of the school buidling. He put his hand on Blake's shoulder, making her stop in her tracks and turn around to look at him, "You uh, doing okay?"
"I'm fine." Blake gave him the answer she gave David a few moments earlier, closing the book she was reading.
"So I hear there's this dance going on this weekend..." Sun began to say after clearing his throat, "Ah, sounds pretty lame, but you and me, I'm thinking, not as lame, huh?"
Blake looked almost offended by his offer, "What?"
"The dance! This weekend! You wanna go, or what? Sun asked.
"I don't have time for a stupid dance. I thought you of all people would get that." Blake coldly declined his offer as she turned away from him and started to walk away. Sun sunk sadly from the rejection as David, Ruby, Weiss and Yang watched the scene with a mixture of worry and sadness on their faces. All four of them exchanged glances with each other and nodded, promising each other to have a conversation with Blake later.
"Don't worry, Sun." David said a second later as he stepped closer to Sun. He put his hand on his shoulder, trying to make him feel better about the rejection, "We will talk with Blake later. We will convince her to go to the dance. You'll see."
Sun gave them a thankful nod, "Thanks, guys."
The day was slowly coming to an end and the moon had replaced the sun on the top of the sky. David and team RWBY were gathered in their room, with David, Weiss and Ruby sitting together on Weiss' bunk and with Yang and Blake sitting together on Blake's bunk. After all of them found themselves in their dorm, David, Ruby, Yang and Weiss made sure to talk with Blake about the matter of her coming to the school dance and Blake was not a fan of the idea to say the least.
"...You what?" Blake exclaimed as she looked around in her dorm angrily, angered by the fact they wanted her to go to the dance despite what was happening right now.
"We want you to go to the dance." Ruby explained.
Blake shook her head, "That's ridiculous."
"Blake, we're worried about you. This investigation is starting to mess with your head." David said, trying to convince Blake to change her mind.
"You can't sleep, you hardly eat, and to be honest, your grades have been suffering." Weiss added, counting the facts on her fingers.
You think I care about grades?" Blake shrugged their concerns off and gestured out of the window, "People's lives are at stake!"
"That may be true, but Blake, other huntsmen and cops exist. Nothing will happen if you rest from it for one evening." David pointed out, proceeding with his attempts.
"What have the police and other huntsman done about it?" Blake pointed out, raising her voice at her roommate as she lowered her hand, "Have you seen any progress from them, because I haven't? Well? I'm waiting for the answer."
Yang put her hand on Blake's shoulder, trying to calm her down, "We're all still trying to figure out what Torchwick is up to. Thanks to you and Sun, we know they're operating somewhere outside of southeast Vale."
"And, the Schnee company records singled out Vale as the primary target for Dust robberies over the last few months." Weiss added.
"Don't forget about the military tech we saw Torchwick use." David added his own part as well. He wasn't angry at Blake for raising her voice at him when he was trying to help her. He knew her emotions about the White Fang and Torchwick were just getting the best of her.
"But there's still unanswered questions!" Blake pointed out, arguing with them.
"Blake, you won't be able to find anything if you can't even keep your eyes open!" Ruby pointed out in return.
"All we're asking is that you take it easy for one day." Weiss added, "It will be fun! Yang and I will make sure of it."
Yang nodded in confirmation, pumping her fist excitedly, "Yeah! We're planning the whole event."
Blake raised her brow, "Excuse me?"
"Team CFVY's away mission lasted longer than expected." Yang explained, "So I and Weiss were asked to pick up where they left off. And now we can make sure you have the perfect night."
Weiss nodded in confirmation, "And once it's all over, we'll return for our search, rested and ready."
"Come on, Blake." David insisted, "It will be just one night. Remember what I said. Nothing bad will happen if you'll take a night off."
Ruby looked at Blake questioningly, "So what do ya think?"
"I think this is a colossal waste of time." Blake replied as she got up from the bunk and walked over to the door. She opened the door and took a quick look at her teammates and her roommate, "I'll be in the library."
Yang lowered her gaze to the floor, letting out a sigh, "Great."
David sighed, "At least we tried."
Weiss shook her head, "She can't keep going on like this."
Before they could discuss about their failed attempt to convince Blake to go to the dance, someone knocked on the door to their dorm. The four of the exchanged glances with each other, wondering who it could be as Weiss got up from her bunk and walked over to the door. She opened it and saw Jaune outside. What immediately caught Weiss' attention was the fact he was holding a guitar. Weiss looked at him with a starled look on her face as David, Yang and Ruby got up from the bunks, looking at Jaune with suprised looks on their faces.
"...Weissss~!" Jaune started to sing, playing on his guitar as Weiss slammed the door in his face, cutting him off. Weiss pinched the bridge of her nose in irritation as Jaune knocked on the door a few times, "Oh, come on, open the door! I promise not to sing." Weiss shook her head, letting out a sigh as she opened the door. As soon as the door opened, Jaune started playing his guitar and singing, "I lied! Weiss Schu-nee, will you accompany me, to the dance on... Sunday!?"
Weiss looked at him with an unimpressed look on her face, "Are you done?"
Jaune shrugged, smilling sheepishly, "Yes?"
"No." Weiss rejected him and slammed to the door to his face again. She turned around and saw the way Yang, David and Ruby were looking at her right now, "What?"
Yang pointed at Weiss with an amused look on her face, "And that is why they call you the Ice Queen."
David shook his head, looking just as much amused as Yang was, "And you're still wondering where that nickname came from?"
"All my life, boys have only cared about the perks of my last name." Weiss explained, crossing her arms. A smile grew on her face when she added, "Besides, I already have a date in mind."
David let out a knowing hum, "Would this date happen to be Neptune?"
"W-What?" Weiss looked at him with a blush on her face, "How would you know that?"
David looked at her like he had been asked the most obvious question in all of his life, "Weiss. Everyone could see the way you were looking at him ever since Sun introduced him to us."
Weiss' eyes widened at his explanation, "What?"
"Yup." Yang nodded in confirmation, "You were totally eyefuc..."
Weiss blushed in embarassment, cutting Yang off as she knew what her teammate was going to say, "Quiet you. Don't even think about finishing this sentence."
"She is right, you know." David added with a devilish smile forming on his face, "You stared at him like you were about too..."
Weiss pointed at him, her blush growing bigger as she realized where was David going with his words, "The same goes for you, David! Don't even think about finishing this sentence."
"Okay. Okay." David raised his hands defensively after seeing the way Weiss looked at him and Yang. He and Yang exchanged amused glances with each other as he added, "Relax. We're just messing with you."
Ruby sighed sadly, "Date or no date, none of this will matter if we can't get Blake to go."
Yang shifted her gaze to David, "And speaking of dates."
David raised his brow at her, "Why are you looking at me like this, Yang?"
"Come on. Do you really need to ask?" Yang replied, "Will you ask your girlfriend from Vale to accompany you to the dance?"
"Yang. She is not my girlfriend. Me and her are just friends and nothing more." David pointed out, losing the count of how many times he had to correct Yang about this matter.
"Yup. Keep telling yourself that." Yang rolled her eyes at him, "Come on. Will you ask her out to the dance or not? It will be a great opportunity for all of us to meet her."
Weiss nodded in agreement, "I have to agree with Yang here. I've been wanting to her since you started hanging out with her in your free time."
"It would be nice to finally see her in person." Ruby voiced her agreement, smilling at David.
David shifted his gaze between all of his roommates, "Girls..."
"Come on." Yang insisted, "If you two are just friends which I find hard to believe because of how often you two hang out in your free time, just ask her out to the dance. I'm sure you both will have a nice time together."
David pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a sigh as he gave in to the crowd pressure, "I'll think about it."
"Good." Yang smiled at her roommate, pleased with this news. Ruby and Weiss looked pleased with it as well, "Just remember how to treat a lady at the dance. Okay?"
David rolled his eyes at her and gestured out of the window, "Okay. I'll go take a shower. It's already dark, after all."
Yang, Ruby and Weiss nodded at him as David walked out of the dorm and started to make his way towards the boys shower. Looking over his shoulder, he saw his roommates walked out of their dorm shorty after him. Judging from the direction they took, he immediately guessed they must have followed his example and left to take a shower before bed as well.
Several minutes have passed since David took his shower and the brown haired young man was in his and team RWBY's dorm right now. He was the only person in the dorm right now as Ruby, Yang and Weiss had not returned from their showers and Blake had not returned from the library. With him being the only person in his dorm right now, he could allow himself to think about one matter. Should he ask Neo if she would accompany him for the school dance or not? He had the text message chat with her opened on his scroll as he debated with him whether he should do this or not.
He nodded to himself several second later, having just made his decision, "Fuck it."
Not wasting any time, he immediately typed the message he had debated with himself about sending to her for the past few moments on his scroll.
David Miller: Hi there.
He stared at his scroll after typing this message to her, waiting for her to give him any sort of response. He wasn't going to to stare at it for long, though as he was aware of the possibility of her being to busy with sleeping to look at her scroll right now, because of right now being night hours on a work day. Fortunely, this didn't seem to be the case now as she typed something back after a few seconds.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Hello :)
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Need anything?
David Miller: Yeah.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: What is it?
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Are you trying book another yoga session with me? I enjoyed our last session. Your screams of anguish as we worked on trying to make you more flexible were music to my ears :)
David rolled his eyes at her attempt of messing with him as the memories of last weekend when he and Neo had the yoga session together he had agreed for after another one of his training sessions with Ruby and Weiss. The yoga session was just a painful as he expected it to be to say the least. Him not being flexible, because of him not being interested in this sort of stuff before definitely played a major part in it.
There was one thing he had to admit to himself after this yoga session, though. It was just how flexible Neo was. No person person should be that flexible. She did poses that pained him just thinking about doing them so easily that he was surprised even though she herself had suggested them having a yoga session. At least she was understanding of him and always helped him whenever he had trouble with a pose they were doing.
David Miller: No.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: A shame :(
The Ice Cream Gremlin: What is it, then?
The brown haired young man let out a deep exhale, before starting to type the next message to her. There was one question he had to ask himself, though. Why could he feel himself growing more nervous as he started typing this message to her? He was just asking a friend to hang out with him during the school dance. Just like they did whenever both of them had free time on the weekend. It wasn't anything to be nervous about.
David Miller: Beacon has a dance coming up and would you like to be to accompany me for it?
The Ice Cream Gremlin: As a friend?
David Miller: Of course.
David Miller: I could show you around Beacon and introduce you to my friends. They were wondering who I have been hanging out with in my free time since we started hanging out. I figured out it would be the best opportunity to do so.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: (Send a thoughtful emoji)
The Ice Cream Gremlin: When does this dance take place?"
David Miller: This weekend.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: This weekend? Give me a second. I need to check if I'll be busy with something.
David Miller: Alright.
David silently stared at the screen of his scroll in anticipation, awaiting Neo's answer.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Bad news. :(
The Ice Cream Gremlin: I'll be busy with my work this weekend and I won't be able to accompany your for the dance.
David let out a sigh, feeling how a large feeling of disappointment went through his body at her answer. He knew he couldn't be angry about it, though as he was ware there was such a possibility. It still didn't stop the disappointment from going through his body, though.
David Miller: I see.
David Miller: A shame.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: I'm sorry about it.
David Miller: It's okay. Duty always comes first.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: A shame won't be able to come, though. Would love to accompany for your school dance if I wasn't busy with my work. I would steal a dance from you. You know the slow type of dance :)
David Miller: No. You know I hate to dance.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Aww (pouty emoji)
The Ice Cream Gremlin: You really can be no fun sometimes. You know that?
David Miller: If you say so.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Mark my words. I will get a slow dance out of you one day. Just like I managed to convince you for a yoga session even after you were against the idea at first.
David Miller: Please don't remind me.
David Miller: My limbs hurt for about two days after your session.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Good. It means it worked.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: You'll see. You're eventually be as flexible as me if we will continue our sessions.
David Miller: Yay
David Miller: I can't wait to open the door with my feet
The Ice Cream Gremlin: I'll try to ignore the fact I read this with sarcasm in my head.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Once again, sorry for not being able to join you for your school dance.
David Miller: It's okay. There will be other opportunities for me to introduce you to my friends.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Here's to next time, I guess.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: I'll try to text you during your school dance if I'll find some time to do so.
David Miller: Okay
David Miller: I'll be awaiting your messages during the dance with bated breath, then.
The Ice Cream Gremlin: (laughing emoji)
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Alright gotta go. I'll be going to sleep soon. I promise I'll make this up to you somehow.
David Miller: Alright.
David Miller: Goodnight :)
The Ice Cream Gremlin: Bye :)
David turned off his scroll and put it away, having no further need to use it after his conversation with Neo ended. He let out a sigh, still slightly disappointed by this outcome, but still understood why Neo couldn't accompany him to the dance. He doubted her boss would give her a day off just because she had to go to the school dance with her friend who is still attending school.
"Look who finally decided to take their eyes off their scroll!" Yang's voice rang through his ears.
David's eyes widened as soon as Yang's voice echoed through his ears. He sat up on his bed and saw Yang, Ruby and Weiss. They had returned to their dorm without him noticing them at first and all of them were wearing their sleepwear right now, "W-What? Girls? When did you get here?"
"Uhm, a few minutes ago." Ruby replied, sitting on the floor with Yang.
"We thought about letting you know we had made it back to the dorm, but gave up on it after we saw him having a text message conversation with someone on your scroll." Weiss explained, sitting on her bunk.
"Who were you talking with? Was this your friend from Vale?" Yang asked with interest written all over her face. The silence David gave her was the only answer she needed to get from him. She smirked at him, "That's what I'm talking about. How did it go? Did she say yes?"
David shook his head, "No. She is too busy with her job this weekend."
Yang looked at her roommate with symapthy on her face, feeling how her smirk faded away from her face, "Oh. I'm sorry to hear it."
Ruby shook her head, letting out a sigh, "A shame. I was really glad to finally have the opportunity to meet your friend."
Yang rubbed the back of her head, feeling slightly guilty about convincing David to try to ask his friend out to the dance, "I kind of feel bad for making you ask her. Should have thought this was the possibility, considering she's three years older than you and is already out of school."
"Don't feel bad about it. I know you meant well." David told Yang she shouldn't feel bad about it, "Besides. There will be other opportunities for me to introduce her to you. We just have to wait for it."
Yang smiled at him, "And I like that approach."
Weiss nodded in approval, "At least you're not allowing this ruin your mood."
"Are you up for a game of cards before going to sleep?" Ruby asked him, gesturing to the card deck Yang was holding right now, "Me and Yang are going to play a quick game before going to sleep?"
"Sure. Why not?" David nodded her head at her offer as he got himself off his bed and sat down on the floor in front of Ruby and Yang. He looked at them questioningly, "What are we playing?"
"Poker." Yang replied, preparing the deck for the game.
"David. Could you turn your music device on?" Ruby questioned, "It would be nice to have some music for our game."
"Sure." David nodded as he got up from the floor and walked over to the cupboard between his bed and Weiss and Ruby's cupboard. He grabbed his music device and walked back to Ruby and Yang, before sitting back down on the floor.
"I just hope it won't what I have in mind." Weiss shook her head. While there were songs on David's music device she liked, there were also some songs she didn't like. David rolled his eyes at her words as he clicked his music device and Sasageyo by Linked Horizon started playing across their dorm just a second later.
A large smile spread over David's face as soon as this song started playing, feeling how his mood lightened up a bit, "Now this is a perfect song to play right now."
"This song again." Weiss sighed, "Do you even understand what they're saying in this?"
"No." David shook his head, "But I can feel it. This song makes me feel patriotic for a nation that doesn't even exist."
Weiss rolled her eyes at him, thinking he was being too dramatic right now, "If you say so."
"Think whatever you want, Ice Queen." David told her. He let out a deep exhale and added, "How much I would give for an opportunity to be on the concern where Linked Horizon sang it alongside other openings."
"Wait a second." Ruby raised her brow at him in interested manner, "There was actually a concert during which they played this song?"
"Yes. I couldn't show up there because when this concert took place I was still a teenager and it took place in another country. I watched it on the internet, though." David replied. He wiped a fake tear from his eye, trying to clarify his point, "I cried three reason while watching this concern. The first time was because it was lit. The second time was because I imagined being in that concert. The third time was because I was not in that concert."
Weiss rolled her eyes, "You're just being dramatic."
David smiled at her, "If you say so, Ice Queen."
"Okay. Let's start our game. Be ready to have your butts kicked, you two." Yang said as he started to hang out the cards to David and Ruby. David and Ruby icked up their cards from the floor and looked at Yang, both of them ready to win the game of poker they were about to start.
Hope it wasn't that bad. See you in another chapter.
