The sun had just risen, casting its golden rays upon the academy courtyard, signaling the beginning of a new day. Louise and the rest of the Noble team were gathered, busy preparing their supplies and equipment for the mission that Princess Henrietta had entrusted to them. As they worked, they eagerly awaited the arrival of the mysterious companion the princess had promised would accompany them on their journey.

The princess herself emerged from the castle, her elegant gown billowing gently in the morning breeze. She approached the team with a warm smile, wishing them luck on their mission. "May the Founder guide your path and protect you on this important quest," she said with a gentle, yet determined, tone.

As the princess addressed the group, Guiche happened to be strolling through the courtyard with his large mole familiar, Montmorency. Catching sight of the beautiful princess, he couldn't help but be drawn to her. With his chest puffed up and a flirtatious glint in his eyes, Guiche sauntered over to her.

Meanwhile, Montmorency, seemingly drawn to the blue ruby ring on Louise's hand, began to nuzzle and brush against her. Louise looked down in surprise but maintained her focus on the conversation between Guiche and the princess.

Guiche bowed low, a lock of his golden hair falling across his forehead. "Your Highness, what a pleasure it is to see you here, gracing us with your radiant beauty," he said, his voice dripping with charm.

Princess Henrietta blushed slightly but maintained her composure. "Thank you, Guiche. I'm just here to see off Louise and her team on their mission."

Guiche's eyes lit up with interest. "A mission, you say? Your Highness, I would be honored to offer my services and accompany them on this noble endeavor. After all, I am quite skilled in the magical arts and could be of great assistance."

The princess hesitated for a moment, but remembering Guiche's father was a well-renowned general in the military, she agreed. "Very well, Guiche. I'm sure your skills will be an asset to their mission."

Louise, not thrilled with the unexpected addition to their group, voiced her concerns to the princess. "Your Highness, do we really need Guiche to come with us? We can handle this mission on our own."

Princess Henrietta gave Louise a reassuring smile. "I understand your concerns, Louise, but Guiche has proven himself to be a capable mage. His presence could be beneficial to your mission. Please give him a chance."

Louise sighed, reluctantly accepting the decision. The rest of the Noble team exchanged glances, unsure of what to make of Guiche joining them. However, they trusted the princess's judgment and welcomed him into their ranks.

As the Noble team prepared to depart, a shadow passed over them, drawing their attention skyward. They watched in awe as a majestic griffin gracefully descended, landing with a flourish in the academy courtyard. The rider dismounted, revealing a tall, handsome man with an air of confidence and nobility. He introduced himself as Wardes, the ally Princess Henrietta had mentioned.

Louise's eyes widened in shock as she recognized Wardes. "Wardes...my fiancé?!" she exclaimed, surprised that her family's arranged betrothal was the very person sent to accompany them on the mission.

Wardes approached the Noble team, extending his hand in greeting. "It's a pleasure to meet you all. I've heard many rumors about the exploits of the Noble team, and I'm truly impressed by what I see."

Carter, the leader of the Noble team, stepped forward and shook Wardes' hand firmly. "It's an honor to have you with us, Wardes. Allow me to introduce the rest of the team. This is Jorge, our heavy weapons specialist, Kat, our tactician and intelligence officer, Emile, our close-quarters combat expert, and Noble Six, our newest and highly skilled addition."

Louise, still trying to process Wardes' arrival, asked, "Why are you accompanying us on this mission?"

Wardes looked at her with sincere eyes. "When I learned that it was you embarking on this mission, I knew I had to be there to offer my support and protection. I hope my skills will be of help to you and your team."

Guiche, overhearing their conversation, was taken aback by the revelation that Louise had a fiancé. He couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy and concern.

With Wardes now part of their group, they set forth on their journey to Albion. Wardes and Louise rode atop his griffin, while the rest of the Noble team, along with Guiche, traveled in a carriage below.

As they departed, Kirche peered out of her window, catching sight of Louise with Wardes. Intrigued, she wondered who the handsome man was and why he was with her friend. A mischievous smile played on her lips as she made a mental note to investigate further upon their return.

Together, the group ventured forth, their combined skills and determination strengthening their resolve. Little did they know the challenges that awaited them in Albion.

As the group traveled on their journey, the landscape around them changed, offering a mesmerizing view of rolling hills and verdant forests. However, despite the breathtaking scenery, Emile couldn't help but feel uneasy about Wardes, who was flying alongside the carriage atop his griffin.

Unable to shake his concerns, Emile approached Carter and confided in him. "Carter, I don't trust Wardes," he said in a low voice.

Carter raised an eyebrow, curious about Emile's suspicions. "What's bothering you? Why don't you trust him?"

Emile frowned, struggling to find the right words. "I can't exactly say, but...well, for starters, his goatee doesn't seem very trustworthy. It's just a gut feeling, but I think we should be cautious around him."

Kat, who had been listening in, rolled her eyes and chimed in. "Emile, you're being paranoid. You can't judge someone's trustworthiness based on their facial hair."

Carter considered both perspectives, then offered a compromise. "Emile, I understand your concerns, but we can't jump to conclusions. Let's keep an eye on Wardes, but remember that he's here to help us. We'll stay vigilant, but we shouldn't let our suspicions cloud our judgment."

Jorge, who had been quietly observing the conversation, finally spoke up. "While we're discussing Wardes, I find it strange that Louise is only sixteen and already engaged to a man who's obviously older than her. Is that normal on this planet?"

Carter thought for a moment before responding. "It's hard to say, but considering the customs and traditions here, it's possible that arranged marriages at a young age are common. As outsiders, we don't have much say in the matter. Our focus should be on the mission and ensuring everyone's safety."

The rest of the team nodded in agreement, recognizing the importance of their task. However, Emile's concerns had planted a seed of doubt, and the team couldn't help but be more cautious around Wardes.

As the journey continued, the group's dynamic shifted subtly. They worked together to overcome various obstacles, but an undercurrent of uncertainty about Wardes persisted. The team tried to focus on the mission and their camaraderie, but the lingering doubt added an unspoken tension to their interactions.

As they neared their destination, the challenges ahead loomed larger, and the group would soon be tested in ways they couldn't anticipate. It remained to be seen whether their trust in each other would hold strong or whether their suspicions would undermine their unity when they needed it most.

The journey continued, and after traveling for some time, the landscape transitioned from lush forests to the coast. As the sun began to set, the group finally arrived at the bustling port city of La Rochelle. Guiche, who was riding along in the same carriage with Noble team, pointed out the city's landmarks as they approached.

"This is La Rochelle," Guiche announced, excitement in his voice. "One of the largest port cities in our kingdom. It's the gateway to Albion."

As they arrived, Wardes and Louise unmounted his griffin, rejoining the rest of the group. Together, they gathered their belongings and headed toward the local inn to find a place to rest for the night. The city was alive with activity, merchants selling their goods, and people from all walks of life going about their business. The team couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the energy that surrounded them.

Upon reaching the inn, Wardes informed the group of their plan. "We'll stay here for the night and depart on a flying ship toward Albion tomorrow. It's crucial that we're well-rested for the next leg of our journey."

The group agreed, and they made their way inside the inn. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere was a welcome respite after their long journey. They secured rooms for the night and settled in to relax and recover their strength.

As the evening approached, the group reconvened in the inn's dining area to share a meal together. The group enjoyed their dinner, talking and laughing as they shared stories from their journey thus far. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with the inn's staff ensuring everyone had a pleasant experience. However, Emile and Noble 6 didn't remove their helmets to eat, each for their own reasons. Emile's suspicions of Wardes persisted, while Noble 6 remained calm and stoic, observing the interactions around the table.

Feeling the need to change the subject, Wardes complimented Louise on her achievements. "Louise, it's truly impressive how you managed to summon such great familiars," he said with admiration. "You've come a long way."

Wardes continued to praise the group's accomplishments, particularly their victory against Fouquet and their recent success in the village against the greedy noble. Emile's suspicions grew as he listened to Wardes recounts these events in surprising detail, wondering how he knew so much about their past exploits.

Noble 6, who had been calmly observing the conversation, also became curiously suspicious of Wardes. The Spartan's instincts told him that there was something unusual about the way Wardes seemed to know so much about their recent activities.

Meanwhile, Guiche was barely paying attention to the conversation, as he was preoccupied with trying to flirt with one of the female staff members of the inn. His efforts were met with polite smiles and gentle rebuffs, but Guiche remained undeterred in his pursuit of the young woman's attention.

As the evening began to wind down, Wardes turned to Louise and asked her to join him in his room, explaining that he had something important to discuss with her. Louise hesitated for a moment, feeling both flattered and uneasy about the invitation. She glanced around the table, seeking reassurance from her friends.

Carter, noticing Louise's hesitation, gave her a nod, signaling that it was alright for her to go with Wardes. Trusting Carter's judgment, Louise agreed to join Wardes in his room.

"I'll be back shortly," she said, trying to sound confident as she stood up and followed Wardes out of the dining area.

The remaining team members exchanged concerned glances as they watched Louise leave with Wardes. Emile and Noble 6 shared their suspicions with Carter, who agreed that they should remain cautious around Wardes until they had a better understanding of his intentions.

As the team settled in for the night, the port city of La Rochelle continued to bustle with activity outside. The morning would bring new challenges and potentially new revelations, but for now, the team was left to ponder the mysterious conversation between Louise and Wardes.

Once they entered Wardes's room, he wasted no time in making them both comfortable. He poured them each a drink, handing one to Louise, who accepted it with a nervous smile. The room was dimly lit, creating an intimate atmosphere that only added to Louise's unease.

"To a successful mission in Albion," Wardes toasted, raising his glass. Louise hesitated for a moment before clinking her glass against his and taking a small sip.

Wardes took a deep breath as if gathering the courage to broach the subject weighing on his mind. "Louise," he began, his voice soft but firm, "after we complete our mission in Albion, I think it's time for us to get married."

Louise's eyes widened in surprise, and she nearly choked on her drink. She had known that their engagement was inevitable, but she hadn't expected Wardes to bring it up so suddenly, especially not in the midst of their mission.

"I... I need more time to think about it," Louise stammered, her voice barely audible. She looked away, unable to meet Wardes's gaze.

Wardes frowned, clearly disappointed by her response. He pressed on, trying to persuade her. "Louise, our families have arranged this marriage for a reason. It will strengthen the ties between our houses and ensure a prosperous future for both of us."

Louise could feel the weight of his words, but she still couldn't bring herself to agree. She thought of her friends in Noble Team, the adventures they'd shared, and the sense of belonging she'd found with them. It all seemed so distant from the future Wardes was proposing.

"I understand," she whispered, her voice trembling. "But I still need more time."

Wardes's expression softened, and he reluctantly relented. "Very well, Louise. I'll give you more time to think about it. But please, don't take too long."

Louise nodded, grateful for his understanding, but still feeling a knot of anxiety in her chest. "Thank you, Wardes," she murmured.

With their conversation at an impasse, Louise decided it was best to return to her room. As she left Wardes's room and walked down the hallway, her thoughts were a whirlwind of emotions – fear, confusion, and uncertainty about her future.

Meanwhile, Noble Team was growing increasingly concerned about Louise's well-being. They discussed their reservations about Wardes and debated whether they should intervene. Ultimately, they decided to trust Louise's judgment, but they remained vigilant, ready to step in if necessary.

As the night wore on, the city of La Rochelle slumbered under a canopy of stars, and the members of Noble Team found solace in their shared determination to protect their friend. The morning would bring new challenges, and they knew that they would need to face them together, as a team.

The following morning, the group gathered their belongings and prepared to leave the inn, making their way toward the port to board a flying ship bound for Albion. Louise walked ahead of the group, deep in conversation with Wardes, while Noble Team and Guiche trailed behind them.

As they walked, Six approached Emile and quietly shared his agreement with Emile's suspicions about Wardes. Emile nodded, relieved to know he wasn't the only one who felt uneasy around the man. "I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way," Emile whispered.

Just as the group was discussing their concerns, they were suddenly attacked in broad daylight by a giant earth golem that emerged from the ground. Noble Team and Guiche were initially caught off guard by the golem's sudden appearance, but they quickly recovered and readied themselves for battle.

"Everyone, stay focused and take down that golem!" Carter shouted, taking charge of the situation.

Fortunately, Noble Team had brought their UNSC weapons with them, along with the replicated ammunition that Professor Colbert had manufactured for their use. They immediately went into action, using their training and experience to strategically fight the golem.

As they engaged the golem, Kat noticed that Wardes and Louise had disappeared. Concerned for her friend's safety, she alerted Carter to their absence. "Carter, Wardes and Louise are gone!"

Carter reassured her, "Louise is fine. We need to focus on the golem in front of us."

As the battle continued, Jorge spotted a familiar figure standing atop the golem, controlling its movements. It was Fouquet, the earth mage they had encountered and defeated in the past. He called out to the team, "It's Fouquet! She's the one controlling the golem!"

Hearing this, the team shifted their focus to disable Fouquet and put an end to the golem's rampage. Emile and Noble 6 took aim at the mage, attempting to force her down from her perch, while Carter, Kat, and Jorge continued to battle the golem.

Meanwhile, Wardes had kidnapped Louise, forcibly leading her through the winding streets of La Rochelle. He was determined to take her to Albion, leaving the rest of the group behind. Louise struggled to break away from Wardes, demanding to know what he was doing.

"Let go of me, Wardes! What are you doing?" Louise cried out, her voice filled with fear and anger.

Wardes simply knocked her out with a swift hit, rendering her unconscious. With a sinister grin, he thought to himself, "The descendant of the void will soon be in our grasp." His words hinted at his involvement in a shadowy organization with ominous plans for Louise.

Back at the fight, Noble Team and Guiche launched a coordinated assault on the golem, striking at its weak points and trying to create an opening for a decisive blow. As they fought, the team couldn't help but worry about Louise and the unknown danger Wardes might pose.

"Keep pushing, we'll find Louise once we've taken care of this golem," Carter urged his team, determination in his voice.

With the sounds of battle echoing through the streets of La Rochelle, the group's journey to Albion had taken an unexpected and dangerous turn. Unaware of Louise's kidnapping, they fought on, focused on the immediate threat in front of them.

The battle against the golem dragged on, with Noble Team and Guiche giving their all. Their weapons and magic, however, seemed to have little effect on the giant earth creature, which continued to advance relentlessly.

"Is it just me, or does it seem like our attacks aren't even fazing this thing?" Guiche called out, worry creeping into his voice.

Noble Team shifted their tactics, trying to find weak spots in the golem's defenses. Emile and Six focused their fire on its legs, hoping to slow it down, while Carter, Kat, and Jorge targeted its arms, aiming to limit its ability to strike. Guiche supported them with his magic, but the golem still refused to fall.

As the fight seemed almost lost, a sudden flash of flame and ice caught everyone's attention. Kirche and Tabitha appeared atop Tabitha's dragon familiar, Sylphid, just in the nick of time to save the group. Kirche unleashed a torrent of fire magic, while Tabitha bombarded the golem with icy projectiles.

"Kirche! Tabitha! You made it just in time!" Guiche shouted, relief washing over him.

Despite their new allies, the battle continued to rage on. The golem, now weakened by the combined efforts of fire and ice, was finally starting to show signs of damage. Noble Team and Guiche pressed their advantage, working in tandem with Kirche and Tabitha to chip away at the golem's defenses.

Fouquet, still perched atop the golem, remained confident despite the turn of events. This unnerved the group, as they couldn't understand why she would still be so sure of herself.

As the golem began to crumble under their relentless assault, the group couldn't help but feel a sense of triumph. However, Fouquet's smug demeanor remained. She declared triumphantly, "I've already accomplished what I needed to do!" With those cryptic words, she made her escape, leaving the group both confused and worried.

Guiche turned to Kirche and Tabitha, asking, "How did you know we were here?"

Kirche responded, "I saw you all leave for your journey from the academy and became curious about what was going on. Tabitha and I decided to follow you and lend a hand."

Carter, however, was more focused on the situation at hand. "We need to find Louise," he urged.

Emile, still fuming from the encounter, agreed. "I knew we shouldn't have trusted Wardes. When I see him again, it won't end well for him."

The group, now joined by Kirche and Tabitha, set out on a desperate mission to locate Wardes and bring Louise back safely. The stakes had been raised, and they knew that time was of the essence. With their determination renewed, they ventured forward, hoping to rescue their friend and uncover the truth behind the mysterious events that had befallen them.

Aboard the UNSC frigate Port Stanley, Spartan-III team members Tom, Lucy, Olivia, Ash, and Maria stood at attention in the briefing room. The Port Stanley was part of a larger fleet of ships, all tasked with investigating a rogue Covenant faction that had made its presence known on the planet Hesduros.

The door to the briefing room opened, and Dr. Halsey entered. The atmosphere in the room shifted immediately as the team members straightened their posture and locked their eyes on her. Halsey, known for her brilliance and uncompromising demeanor, was not someone to be trifled with.

"Good morning, Spartans. We have a serious situation on our hands," Dr. Halsey began, her voice commanding attention. "As you may already be aware, a rogue Covenant faction has set up operations on Hesduros. This faction is operating outside of the Covenant hierarchy and appears to be led by an unknown figure."

She paused for a moment, allowing the gravity of the situation to sink in before continuing. "Your mission is to infiltrate their stronghold, locate the leader and their followers, and eliminate them. We cannot allow this rogue faction to gain a foothold in the region and pose a threat to humanity."

Dr. Halsey then activated a holographic display, which showed the planet Hesduros and a series of possible locations where the rogue faction could be operating. "Based on our intelligence, we have identified their primary base of operations. You will start your mission by infiltrating the stronghold and gathering any information you can."

Lucy raised a hand, her voice steady as she asked, "Dr. Halsey, do we have any idea what this faction's goals are? Are they just another splinter group seeking power, or do they have a more specific agenda?"

"We are not yet certain of their intentions," Dr. Halsey replied. "However, we do know that they have been aggressively recruiting other Covenant forces and have already caused significant damage to several UNSC outposts in the region. It is essential that we act swiftly to neutralize this threat before it escalates further."

Ash chimed in, "What kind of resistance should we expect once we're on the ground?"

"Expect heavy resistance," Halsey answered. "This faction has managed to gather a significant number of former Covenant troops, as well as some advanced weaponry. You'll need to be prepared for anything."

Tom, the leader of the team, spoke up. "Understood, ma'am. We'll do whatever it takes to complete the mission."

Maria nodded in agreement, her determination evident. "We've faced the Covenant before, and we'll do it again. They won't know what hit them."

"Good," Dr. Halsey replied, her expression remaining serious. "You will be deployed immediately. Time is of the essence, Spartans. I expect regular updates on your progress, and I will be available for consultation should you require any assistance."

With that, Dr. Halsey dismissed the team, and they promptly left the briefing room to prepare for their mission.

The Spartan-III team made their way to the hangar bay of the Port Stanley, each member lost in their thoughts as they contemplated the mission ahead. The bay was filled with activity, as crew members prepared various vehicles and equipment for deployment. Their destination: a Pelican dropship that would transport them to the surface of Hesduros.

As they entered the bay, Ash couldn't help but voice his concerns. "I don't like the idea of going in blind. It's one thing to face off against the Covenant when we know what we're dealing with, but this rogue faction has me on edge."

Maria, who was securing her armor, replied, "We've faced unknowns before, Ash. We just have to be ready for anything and trust our training."

Tom nodded in agreement, "Maria's right. We've dealt with the Covenant before, and we can handle this rogue faction. We just need to stay focused and work together as a team."

With their gear assembled, the team members began to strap on their armor, checking and double-checking their equipment to ensure everything was in perfect working order. As they did so, Lucy chimed in, sharing her own thoughts about the rogue Covenant faction.

"I've been thinking about what Dr. Halsey said earlier, and I can't help but wonder if there's more to this faction than meets the eye. Why are they so determined to gather forces and establish a stronghold on Hesduros? What's their endgame?"

Olivia, who had been quietly listening to her teammates' discussion, finally spoke up. "We won't know until we get down there and find out for ourselves. Speculating will only drive us crazy. Our mission is clear: locate the leader, eliminate them and their followers, and gather any intel we can. That's what we need to focus on."

The team nodded, recognizing the truth in Olivia's words. They finished gearing up and headed towards the Pelican, their eyes locked on the objective. As they climbed aboard, Tom turned to his fellow Spartans and gave a reassuring smile.

"We can do this, team. We've faced insurmountable odds before and come out on top. This mission won't be any different."

With that, the Spartan-III team secured themselves in the Pelican, and the engines roared to life. Just as the Pelican's engines were warming up, Dr. Halsey appeared at the entrance of the hangar bay, waving her hand to get the team's attention. Tom signaled the pilot to cut the engines, and the team disembarked, curious about what Halsey had to say.

As they approached Halsey, they noticed she was not alone. Standing beside her was Jun-A266, the last surviving member of Noble Team. The Spartan-IIIs couldn't help but feel a mixture of awe and respect for the legendary sniper.

"Before you head out, I wanted to introduce you to Jun," Halsey said, gesturing to the Spartan-III standing beside her. "He'll be joining you on your mission to Hesduros."

The team exchanged glances, surprised by the sudden addition to their ranks. Tom stepped forward and extended his hand to Jun, who firmly shook it in return.

"It's an honor to have you with us, Jun. We've heard about your time on Reach, and I can't think of a better teammate to help us take down this rogue Covenant faction."

Jun nodded, his voice steady and confident. "Thank you, Tom. I'm looking forward to working with all of you. I'm certain that, together, we can put an end to this threat."

With the introductions complete, the team quickly welcomed Jun into their ranks. As they discussed the mission, they found themselves reassured by Jun's experience and expertise. If anyone could help them navigate the unknowns of this mission, it was him.

Dr. Halsey looked on, satisfied with the team's reception of Jun. "I have no doubt that you will succeed in your mission. With Jun's assistance and your team's skills, there's no obstacle you can't overcome."

The team nodded, their resolve strengthened by Halsey's words. They returned to the Pelican, this time with Jun at their side. As the engines roared back to life and the dropship lifted off, the Spartan-III team and Jun exchanged determined looks. They were ready to face the rogue Covenant faction head-on, and together, they would put an end to the threat looming over Hesduros.

Jul 'Mdama stood tall in the command room of the stronghold he and his forces had established on the distant planet of Hesduros. His keen eyes studied the holographic display before him, a three-dimensional representation of the planet and the surrounding area. He assessed the current state of his growing faction, noting the strategic locations of their facilities and the expansion of their influence. While they had come far in a short period of time, he knew that they could not rest on their laurels. The threat of the UNSC was ever-present, and it was only a matter of time before they took notice of his rogue Covenant faction.

As Jul 'Mdama continued to examine the holographic display, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. The loyal warriors under his command had fought hard to establish this foothold on Hesduros. The stronghold was well-protected, boasting a variety of defenses and strategic positions that would make it difficult for any force to breach. And yet, he knew that they could not afford to become complacent. The threat of the UNSC loomed, and they would need to be prepared to face them when the time came.

Suddenly, a Sangheili warrior entered the room, a sense of urgency in his gait. He approached Jul 'Mdama and bowed respectfully before speaking. "Shipmaster, we have detected a UNSC presence in our Solar System."

Jul 'Mdama did not react with panic or surprise. Instead, he remained calm, his voice steady as he responded. "I anticipated that the humans would eventually come to interfere with our plans. It was only a matter of time."

He looked back at the holographic display and considered his next move. The UNSC forces were likely sending scouts to assess their strength and gather intelligence. They would need to be prepared for a full-scale assault.

"Have our forces fortify the stronghold and prepare for an incoming attack," he ordered. "I want every entrance secured, and our defenses at their maximum capacity. Deploy our finest warriors to key positions, and ensure that our reserves are ready to join the battle at a moment's notice."

The Sangheili warrior bowed once more and relayed the orders to the rest of their forces. Within moments, Jul 'Mdama's command room was abuzz with activity, as soldiers rushed to set up defensive positions and prepare for the battle that was surely coming.

From his vantage point, Jul 'Mdama watched with satisfaction as his forces efficiently fortified the stronghold. Phantoms and Banshees took to the skies, patrolling the perimeter and providing an aerial defense. Ground troops manned turrets and barricades, their weapons primed and ready for the approaching enemy. Engineers and technicians worked tirelessly to reinforce the stronghold's walls and ensure that their defenses were fully operational.

As the stronghold's defenses were bolstered, Jul 'Mdama couldn't help but smirk menacingly at the thought of the approaching UNSC forces. They would soon learn the true power of his rogue Covenant faction, and he would make them regret ever daring to set foot on Hesduros. His thoughts drifted to visions of victory, the UNSC crushed beneath the might of his army. But he knew that they could not afford to underestimate their enemy. The humans had proven themselves resourceful and resilient, and it would take all of their strength and cunning to ensure their ultimate defeat.
