Chapter 2: Trouble at the Zoo

Nearly 10 years have passed since Harry and I were found on the front steps of the Dursley's house. Harry Potter and I were peacefully asleep but not for long. Our Aunt Petunia was awake and it was her shrill voice that made the first noise of the day.

"Up! Get up! Now!" She yelled. Aunt Petunia was banging the door with her fists. Harry and I woke with a start. Our aunt rapped on the door again. We heard her walking towards the kitchen and the sound of a pan frying on the stove. Harry was up but I was not. I rolled over and tried to remember the dream I had last night. It had been a good one. There was a flying motorcycle in it and I remember in one part of the dream, I was reunited with my birth family.

I have been separated from my birth parents when I was just a pup. I am 10 years old now, and so is Harry. Harry Potter and I are best friends and we keep each other company in this small cupboard under the stairs that was our room. We had a few toys to play with but not much. Sometimes whenever I get the chance, I would sneak some computer time on Dudley's computer, so would Harry.

I was interrupted by my thoughts when our aunt came back at the door. "Are you up yet?" She demanded.

"I am, I don't know about Lana," Harry said.

"Well get a move on and tell Lana she better wake up. I want you to look after the bacon and tell Lana that I want her to organize the presents. I want everything to be perfect on Duddy's birthday."

Harry and I groaned.

"What did you say?" Our aunt snapped through the door.

"Nothing," Harry said. Dudley's birthday, how could we have forgotten? Speak of the devil, Dudley was stomping his feet hard on the stairs. He jumped hard on the stairs. "Wake up, cousins! We're going to the zoo!" Dudley screamed. Dudley laughed as he shoved Harry and I back into our room. Harry helped me up.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I said. Harry and I went out to the living room to do our chores. Aunt Petunia was cooing over her son. "Oh, here he comes! The birthday boy!" Aunt Petunia said.

"Happy birthday, son." Uncle Vernon said.

"Why don't you two just cook the breakfast? And try not to burn anything?" Aunt Petunia said when she noticed us.

"Yes, Aunt Petunia." Harry and I said.

"I want everything to be perfect for my Dudley's special day!" Aunt Petunia said. Aunt Petunia covered Dudley's eyes as she led him into the living room. Harry and I were doing our best to cook but it was hard with Uncle Vernon telling us to "Hurry up! Bring my coffee boy!"

"Yes, Uncle Vernon," Harry said.

Aunt Petunia uncovered Dudley's eyes and showed him the gifts. "Aren't they wonderful, darling?" Aunt Petunia asked. Dudley was studying the gifts. He turned around to his parents. "How many are there?" Dudley demanded. I just rolled my eyes. What a brat.

"36. Counted them myself." Uncle Vernon said proudly. Dudley looked furious but I wasn't surprised because he is always like this. "36!? But last year- Last year I had 37!" Dudley yelled.

"Yes, well some of them are quite a bit bigger than last year's." Uncle Vernon said.

"I don't care how big they are!" Dudley yelled. Luckily, Aunt Petunia was able to say something before Dudley had a huge tantrum. "Oh, now, now, now this is what we're going to do. When we go out, we're going to buy you two new presents. How's that pumpkin?" Aunt Petunia said. Later, it was time to go to the zoo. Aunt Petunia and Dudley were excited. I wasn't too excited because I am not that into zoos. I would rather go to the movies.

"This will be a lovely day at the zoo. I'm really looking forward to it." Aunt Petunia said. Before we got into the car, Uncle Vernon pulled us aside. "I'm warning you now, guys. Any funny business. Any at all. And you two won't have any meals for a week. Get in." Uncle Vernon demanded. Harry and I just stayed silent and got in the car. As we were driving, I just stared into space as Uncle Vernon was complaining to Aunt Petunia.

Uncle Vernon loved to complain about things. I didn't really mind as long as he was not yelling. I am a very sensitive person to noise and certain types of clothing. Anyways, Uncle Vernon was complaining about people at work, me and Harry, the council, me and Harry, the bank, me and Harry were just a few of his favorite subjects. As I was listening to the complaining, I was thinking about the dream I had last night. The one with the flying motorcycle and me reuniting with my family.

Harry told me he had the same dream as me too, although my family was not in his dream. I feel like Harry and I have a special connection since we have been together our whole lives. I feel like Harry is the only person I can talk to. And it turns out the thing Uncle Vernon was complaining about was motorcycles. "Roaring along like maniac the young hoodlums." Uncle Vernon said as a motorcycle overtook us.

Without thinking, I blurted out, "I had a dream about a motorcycle. It was flying."

I screamed when Uncle Vernon nearly crashed into the car upfront. He turned around to look at me and yelled at the top of his lungs, "MOTORCYCLES DON'T FLY!"

I whimpered and pinned my ears back as Dudley snickered. I didn't say anything after that, not wanting to anger him more. I wished I kept my mouth shut. Harry put his hand on my shoulder to comfort me. Finally, we arrived at the zoo after an hour. It was a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon and the zoo was packed. After Dudley got his ice cream, we went to look at some snakes. Dudley did not seem satisfied with the snake.

"Make it move!" Dudley yelled.

"Move." Uncle Vernon said as he knocked on the glass.

"Move!" Dudley yelled as he banged on the glass very loudly.

"Leave him alone," I said.

"He's sleeping." Harry snapped at Dudley.

"He's boring," Dudley said. Dudley got bored and left to look at some other animals. Harry and I stayed with the snake. "Sorry about him. He doesn't understand what it's like, laying there day after day watching people press their ugly faces in on you." Harry said. The snake winked at him. My eyes widened. Did the snake just...?

"Can you hear me?" Harry asked.

"Can you hear me too?" I asked. The snake nodded. Wow, this is so cool.

"It's just... I never talked to a snake before. Do you... I mean... Do you talk to people often?" Harry asked. The snake shook his head. "You're from Burma, aren't you? Was it nice there? Do you miss your family?" Harry asked. The snake pointed his head toward a sign. The sign read that the snake was bred in captivity.

"I see. That's me as well." Harry said.

"And me," I said.

"Lana and I never knew our parents either." Harry was interrupted when Dudley came running and yelling, "Mummy! Dad, come here! You won't believe what the snake is doing!" Dudley pushed me and Harry to the ground.

"The hell man!?" I shouted. Harry and I looked at the glass. Suddenly without explanation, the glass disappeared, and Dudley fell right into the enclosed cage. He screamed when he fell into the cold water. The snake made his way out of the cage. Before he left, he stopped in front of us and said, "Thanks."

I was speechless but Harry said, "Anytime."

As the snake was making his way out of the zoo, people were screaming "Snake!" And frantically ran out of the way, jumping on the railings. As Dudley got up, he realized the glass had reappeared again. Now Dudley was freaking out. "Mum! Mummy!" Dudley screamed. Aunt Petunia screamed when she saw her son in the enclosure.

"Mum! Help me, help me!" Dudley screamed.

"My darling boy! How did you get in there!?" Aunt Petunia shouted. Harry and I couldn't help but laugh. We stopped when Uncle Vernon gave us a glare. When we got home, Aunt Petunia had Dudley wrapped around in a towel, comforting him. "It's all right, sweetheart. It's all right. We'll get you out of these terribly cold clothes." Aunt Petunia said. Uncle Vernon pushed Harry and I into the house, grabbing us by the hair.

"What happened?" Uncle Vernon demanded.

"I swear I don't know! One minute the glass was there, and then it was gone! It was like magic!" Harry yelled. Uncle Vernon pushed Harry and I into the cupboard, slamming the door shut.

"There's no such thing as magic!" Uncle Vernon yelled.

With that, Uncle Vernon left, leaving me and Harry alone with no meals for a week. How much longer am I going to survive this?
