A/N They're about sixteen here. Read and review!
If somebody ever told me that one day I'd be holding hands with Kendall because we're glued together, I may have believed them, since anything is possible. If they had also told me that I'd end up enjoying it, however, I definitely would not have believed them, because that's just outrageous.
Somehow, though, that is exactly what's happening right now - Kendall and I are glued together at the hand, and I'm actually enjoying it. The world has gone mad.
It had been a rough start, what with me crashing into her in that cave and Kendall literally screaming at me that we were going to get ourselves unstuck her way, but now we're actually getting along and working together surprisingly well.
At the moment, Kendall and I are searching Ronaldo's lab for the anti-sticky solvent.
"Up there," I say, pointing to a bottle right at the top of one of the shelves. "Alright, I can get it, but I can't do it alone. You ready?"
Kendall nods her head, looking at me with a confident smile and determination in her eyes. "I've never been more ready."
"Follow my lead."
We climb up the shelves, avoiding a multitude of dangerous items on the way including barbed wire and carnivorous plants to name but a few. I pick up the bottle once we reach the top, holding it securely in my free hand. "Awesome reflexes."
"Awesome stunt skills."
"Nah, it was all you." I begin to toss the bottle up and down in the air casually, although I'm really paying more attention to Kendall than I am to the bottle.
"No way, it was all you."
"You did better."
"No, you did better."
I'm just about to say something about how awesome she's been today when suddenly the bottle slips out of my hand. We watch as it plummets to the floor below without the cap, causing most of the solvent to fall down the drain. Kendall and I look at each other for a brief moment, before jumping off of the shelf to grab it in mid-air. We just barely manage to catch the last few drops of the solvent, and watch as the sap binding our hands together dissolves.
"We're free," she says happily.
I rub my wrist a little as I look at her, realizing that I'm seeing her differently now. She's been so awesome today, and I've seen a side to her that I never thought possible, one that I really, really like. Now, standing here in a dimly-lit lab with her blonde hair slightly messed up and her chest rising up and down steadily as the adrenaline rush wears off, she looks breathtaking.
"Well, Kendall, it's been an experience," I say, smiling widely at her.
"Yeah, it's been very... interesting," says Kendall, smiling back at me. "We definitely got into a few sticky situations, so to speak."
"You mean how we almost got seen outside the hardware store?" I ask, feeling my face turn red.
"Yeah, that was definitely a close call," she responds, glancing away from me. "But at least we didn't get caught."
"I do think we could have done a better job, though," I say, moving towards her a little. "Maybe we should practice some more, you know, just in case we have to hide from someone again."
Kendall grins at me playfully as she realizes what I'm suggesting. Taking a step towards me, she places a hand on my chest, drumming her fingers steadily. "I thought I smelled like a library?"
"I actually kind of like the library."
I pull her in towards me, closing the already tiny gap between us. I look into her eyes, before leaning in and pressing my lips to hers for the second time today.
Kendall kisses me back immediately, moving her hands to the bottom of my neck to pull me in even closer. My own hands settle just above her hips as I deepen the kiss, for although soft and slow is incredible, passionate and fervent is exhilarating. After a few brief seconds of surprise, she matches my pace, kissing me with the same longing and desire that I'm currently feeling for her.
A few minutes later, Kendall pulls away first, resting her forehead against mine as she closes her eyes, not saying a word. We stay like that for a moment, just catching our breaths and calming down a little. But then, I open my eyes and, oh man, there she is in front of me with her messy blonde hair and her alluring blue eyes and her slightly puffy pink lips, and I just can't stop myself from kissing her again.
Just like before, Kendall doesn't hesitate to kiss me back, so I push her against the shelf, running my hands up and down her sides. I begin to kiss her neck, causing her to gasp in surprise as her knees buckle somewhat. I've got her right where I want her, and all I want is to stay here with her for as long as possible.
"Kick, we shouldn't," she says, but does nothing to push me away.
"Shouldn't what?" I ask, continuing to trail kisses up and down her neck.
Suddenly, she straightens herself up and pushes me away a little, standing upright as she looks at me in a way that I can't figure out.
"We shouldn't be doing this, Kick," she says, throwing her hands up in the air in frustration. "It's Ronaldo's birthday, and I'm making out with you in his own lab. I'm an awful person."
"Well, it's not like I made you or anything."
"Exactly! I'm willingly kissing you on my boyfriend's birthday. What is wrong with me?" She walks away from me, holding her head in her hands.
"Maybe you like me, not Ronaldo?"
Kendall snaps her head up suddenly, spinning around to face me. "Of course not. He's my boyfriend and you're my..." she trails off.
"I'm your what, Kendall?" I ask, starting to get annoyed because even though we were making out less than two minutes ago, she's still insisting that she doesn't have any feelings for me whatsoever. "Your mortal enemy? Your biggest rival? Your secret crush?"
"No, you're none of that, Kick," she says. "You're crazy and dangerous and wild and everything that Ronaldo isn't. He's safe and reassuring and logical. He's everything that I'm supposed to want, and you're everything that I'm supposed to hate."
"But, I'm guessing that you don't hate me, right?" I say quietly, taking a step towards her.
An awkward silence overcomes us as Kendall looks at anything and everything but me whilst I stare at the floor, unsure if I should say more.
After a minute, Kendall shakes her head just a tiny bit, taking a deep breath in as she finally looks at me. "No, I..."
"Ahem, and what is going on here?"
And just like that, Kendall is cut off from whatever she was about to say as Ronaldo appears in the doorway, glaring at us - well, me really - angrily.
"Ronaldo, um, it got dark, and um, Kick walked me here," Kendall stutters out, faking a smile as I follow suit, hoping that he'll buy her excuse.
"Buttowski? I didn't think you were capable of such gentlemanly behavior. I'm much obliged," says Ronaldo, reaching over to shake my hand.
Realizing that my hand is still covered in that stupid cave sap, I try to pull my hand away, but he grabs it anyway. "Wait, Ronaldo, don't!"
So that's how I ended up at the most awkward birthday dinner I've ever been to, discreetly staring at another guy's girlfriend as I wonder what exactly she would have said had we not been interrupted.
