"Father! She's finally awake!"
Sasuke had waited countless millennia for this day, countless lifetimes. The love of his life, the embodiment of Spring, the only one who ever made him feel like he was enough. Sakura, the goddess of Spring, had finally awoken from her slumber. He felt it moments before his daughter came in to let him know.
"Let us bring your mother home, Sarada."
During the Final Great War, Sakura had used all of her life energy to make sure that they won the war. He had told her that no matter the circumstances, she was never to sacrifice her life for theirs. She was worth so much more than their allies, though she would gladly suggest otherwise. She was selfless in all the ways he was not. Sasuke, god of darkness was her opposite in any way.
The only reason they won the war against the Undead was because she was able to replenish their energy at the cost of her own. While she had not died, her body had remained in a vegetative state. She was in a dimension they had created when they had first fallen in love. When she began to make him feel. She has been entombed for a billion years, heavily guarded at his behest. And now, finally, she had awoken. He could feel light in the world, seeping through the cracks in a way long forgotten.
However, that could only mean one thing… that she was no longer in the safety of their dimension. And the world… the world has changed immensely in the last billion years.
"Sarada… it seems your mother is not where she should be… fetch your siblings, we have to find her before the world ruins her once again."
Sarada, the eldest of their children, and goddess of the night, hardens her expression, before poofing out of existence, leaving behind only obsidian feathers.
He, too, teleported to where he felt the greatest amount of light. Leaving behind pale, pink feathers reminiscent of his wife's long, pink hair.
Upon arrival, he sees his five children in front of a large wall of trees, trunks reaching into the heavens. The Shikkotsu Forest. They all turn upon sensing his presence. They were a perfect culmination of both Sasuke and Sakura, with their black and pink hair and their onyx and viridian eyes. They were his greatest reminder of all Sakura gave him and continues to inspire in him, even a billion years later.
"Father, we have sensed her somewhere in this forest… but for some reason, we cannot pinpoint her exact location… or a way in," their eldest son, Daisuke, the god of shadows, reports.
"Do you think it's because we don't remember Mother as well as we used to," their youngest child, Asahi, the god of nightmares, asks timidly.
"No, there's something magical about this place," Miyuki, their middle child, and the goddess of the morning, responds, patting her younger brother on the back.
"We'll just have to fan out and search for her," Asami, their youngest daughter, and goddess of dreams, states, a hard expression on her face.
"Ah… we cannot let any danger fall on her," Sarada confirms, "Not to mention we also have to find a way into this forest."
"This is the Shikkotsu Forest," Sasuke claims, a small smile on his face, "It's where your mother and I first met. While the world has changed drastically in the last billion years, this forest has remained almost unperturbed. Full of life… it must be the only place your mother knew would have remained unchanged."
"Mother always knew best, after all," their children said in unison, something their father had always repeated since they were born.
The moment Sasuke stepped to the wall of trees, they opened up, as if the forest was all part of one collective being. Once they entered the forest, it's like the forest also wanted to reunite them with Sakura. Or maybe it was Sakura bringing them to her. She was always in tune with the Shikkotsu Forest - to the point where it behaved almost like an extension of her.
The farther they went in, the lighter and fuller they felt, strangely enough. Like they were walking on air, but something that had been missing from them was finally there again.
Until, finally, the forest opened up into a giant clearing. There in the middle, sat a beautiful woman with her legs under her and her back to them, long, pink tresses almost floating around her. Eyes closed, her face was angled to them and tilted towards the sun, basking in the sun she used to be so familiar with, a purple diamond on her forehead. The six of them could only stare at her, enamored, entranced in the immense feeling of love that flowed throughout the clearing.
Finally, the ethereal being stood up, and turned around, a breathtaking smiler reaching dazzling green eyes. She first made eye contact with her children, her hands going up to her heart. Awake for the first time in a billion years, and Sasuke could not fathom just how much love she held in her smile. Then, she turned her eyes to Sasuke, her eyes and smile impossibly brighter, as if Sasuke was the one who had awoken from a billion year slumber while she had waited for him.
It felt like it was only the two of them in the world. In the universe, even.
Their children turned towards each other, nodding their heads while their parents were entranced with one another. In a way that they had forgotten. In a way that made them remember just how much their parents loved each other in private.
"We'll see you at home, Father," Sarada states, breaking their parents' trance, before quietly - reverently - continuing, "And you as well, Mother, we have been anxiously awaiting your return for a billion years."
Before Sakura could respond, their children teleported elsewhere in a cloud of pink and black.
"Sakura… my love," Sasuke manages to utter in amazement, returning her attention to him.
"Sasuke… I have missed you so much my love. My dreams of you were the only thing that kept me sane during my slumber."
Slowly, he walked towards her, almost like he was lost in the darkness he ruled over, and she was the light at the end of the tunnel. The light that made him think that darkness didn't mandate an absence of light.
"The knowledge that one day, you would return is what kept me… and our children sane in this world… Sakura, welcome back. I have missed you more than I could ever describe."
Once he reached her, he grabbed her arms gently, afraid that he would somehow hurt her. He held her at arm's length, still in awe that she was all his once again.
I love you. Once again, he feels himself falling into her. He smiles her smile - the one he only ever showed in the stolen moments between the two of them.
Suddenly, she leaps into his arms, clutching at him, eager to remember the way he felt. He embraces her, tightening his grip, afraid that she would fall out of his grasp once more. Sasuke finally feeling complete. Complete in a way that was only thanks to her. Complete in a way he has not felt in the last billion years. He was never letting her go again.
A/N:
They have 5 children! In the following order: Sarada, Daisuke, Miyukia, and the twins Asami and Asahi
Surprise… I'm not dead. These last 2 years have been sooooooo busy, but now, I needed to destress so here are two (2) stories. This one's a shorter one, but the one before has actually been in progress for the last 2 years. Going through changes nonstop, until finally I felt like it encapsulated the original... vibes I was going for lol. I may be rusty, and for that I'm sorry! But, for writing about how much Sasuke loves his wife, I will not apologize... I kind of put a bit of my love and relationship into this. ;) happy belated birthday Sakura. 3
