"Kakashi-sensei, what are you doing here?" asked Naruto, removing his mask.
"Naruto, why are you dressed in Anbu gear?" asked Kakashi.
"I was invited to Anbu, now why are you here?" asked Naruto.
"I am here because I wanted to see you now what do you mean you were invited to Anbu?" asked Kakashi.
"Taichou, he means what he said, he is your replacement," said Tenzo. Naruto's eyes widened and looked at Kakashi realizing who Kakashi was before this.
"Who invited you?" asked Kakashi, angrily.
"the Old man," said Naruto but as soon as Kakashi heard that, he disappeared into smoke, with leaves in the room, clearly by shunshin.
"Taichou, can I ask you something?" asked Naruto "who in their right mind would invited Kaka-sensei to Anbu? I mean if he is always late, how does he protect the old man? I have never seen Kakashi sensei on time to anything, I am pretty sure he has a disease that makes him late, also people say that assassins have to watch their target, how does that smut book addict watch someone when he can't even watch his own team?"
The team smiled at Naruto's antics, especially how much he could complain about Kakashi, a fact that all of them shared, as Kakashi was very annoying, when he wanted to be
"Starting tomorrow, we have guard duty," said Tenzo.
"Who are we guarding?"
"The Hokage," said Tenzo.
"Now before all of that, we have a few things to show you," said Yugao.
"Like what?" asked Naruto.
"Like Anbu headquarters and the barracks where we change our uniform," said Asashi.
"Oh, alright," said Naruto.
"Do you have any questions?" asked Tenzo.
"Yes, you guys have code names like animals but how come Zo's code name is different?" asked Naruto.
"Some times, Anbu operatives have multiple people who have the same code name so the Anbu Commander will allow some of his operatives, those who have been around longer to change their code names," explained Tenzo.
"How long does an Anbu stay?" asked Naruto.
"Depends on if you can handle the job, some Anbu leave after a few months, some leave after a few years and some never leave," Explained Tenzo.
-With Kakashi-
"Lord Hokage, how is this a good idea?!" asked Kakashi as his face was filled with anger while on the other side stood the calm and collected Hokage.
"It is for the best, Anbu operatives act in silence and mystery, no-one will know where he is or who he is, he won't have to deal with a potential flight risk and plus, Anbu can train him better than you can," said Sarutobi.
"Train him to do what?" asked Kakashi.
"To kill, to understand responsibility, to have people who actually care about him and will form bonds with him, he will finally understand what it is to be a shinobi," said the Lord Hokage.
"Why not Sasuke?" asked Kakashi.
"Let's look at the facts, Sasuke is only loyal because of the power Konoha offers, other than that, he would leave in an instant, another fact is his ego, he barely talks or even interacts with his teammates, a team has to be fine tuned machine but Sasuke is a risk to that, he can barely take an insult, how would he handle guarding important people who at times have insulted lots of people," said Sarutobi.
"Fine," said Kakashi.
-Outside-
Sasuke and Sakura couldn't believe what they just heard about both their former teammate and the analysis on Sasuke. It was honestly one of the most shocking things they had heard but others had heard similar things before, Sakura couldn't believe what the Lord Hokage had said about Sasuke and Naruto, Sasuke had gotten over this information and was quite angry at what the old man had said.
"The dobe got into Anbu and you didn't?" asked Sakura shocked.
"I'm not loyal?" asked Sasuke as he walked into the room. Both Sarutobi and Kakashi looked annoyed but did not seemed suprised at all.
"How much did you hear?" asked Kakashi.
"Enough," said Sasuke "what do you mean I'm not loyal?"
"Exactly what I mean, you are not loyal, first prove that you can be trusted to stay in Konoha, be trusted to take a few insults and in the next chunin exams, get to the rank of chunin and then we shall see if you are worthy of Anbu," said Sarutobi.
-With Naruto-
The Anbu Team had gone to the training field, the plan was simple, start Naruto's kenjutsu training and see what other areas he needs help with.
"Now then, we will begin on your kenjutsu training," said Yugao, as she pulled out her sword and turned it towards the open field.
"Cool!" shouted Naruto, Yugao couldn't help but smile at Naruto's enthusiasm.
"Now, start with this strike," ordered Yugao to which Naruto nodded. Naruto repeated what she did.
"Now do this a hundred times," ordered Yugao to which Naruto looked shocked.
"Wha-what?!"
-The next day-
Naruto was wearing his Anbu clothes and mask but this time he had a black cloak on his body and covering his hair, revealing nothing about him. Naruto was hidden above the Hokage observing everyone who enterred the office but mostly watching the Lord Hokage do paperwork all day, it was quite boring guarding the Hokage but it did allow him to hear all the gossip.
"Team 7 here for a mission," said Kakashi with an eye smile.
"What rank?" asked Sarutobi.
"D-rank," said Kakashi to which the Team looked horrified. Naruto saw the absolute plus in the Anbu.
'So wait we don't have to do D-ranks', Naruto said but in sign language to his teammates. Both of his teammates nodded to which Naruto smiled, but before he could celebrate Tenzo hit him on the head.
'Stay focused,' signed Tenzo.
