The small cottage on the outskirts of town was the perfect venue for Leo and Calypso's wedding. As guests arrived, they were greeted by a charming white picket fence that surrounded the lush green garden enveloping the cottage. The garden was blooming with lavenders that filled the air with a sweet aroma, creating a tranquil atmosphere.
The cottage itself was quaint and cozy, with its white exterior accented by delicate lavender shutters and a matching door. Upon entering, the guests were welcomed by an enchanting interior adorned with the same lavender and white colour palette. Lavender flowers were elegantly scattered throughout the space, adding a romantic touch.
The ceremony took place in the cottage's backyard, where a simple wooden arbour adorned with lavenders and peonies served as the focal point. The aisle was lined with white rose petals. The warm and intimate setting was the perfect choice for Leo and Calypso's special day, and everyone couldn't wait for the ceremony to begin.
As Percy took in the serene surroundings, his heart raced with anticipation. He couldn't help but steal glances at Annabeth, who looked stunning in her grey dress. He felt a wave of nerves wash over him as he realized the gravity of what he was about to do. But he was determined to finally go through with telling Annabeth how he felt and hoping for the best.
Percy calmed his nerves as she approached him,"Hey," he said, a slight smile forming on his lips.
"Hey yourself," Annabeth replied, looking around the venue with wonder. "This place is beautiful. I love the colour scheme."
"Yeah, it's perfect for them," Percy said, nodding in agreement, and started fiddling with his cufflinks.
Annabeth turned to face him, a curious expression on her face. "Are you okay?" she asked.
Percy's heart raced as he took a deep breath. "Actually, there's something I need to tell you," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "But I want to wait until after the ceremony when things have settled down a bit."
Annabeth looked at him quizzically. "What is it, Percy?" she asked, concern in her voice.
Percy took another deep breath, his heart pounding in his chest. "I'll tell you later, I promise," he replied, his voice full of emotion. "For now, let's just enjoy the wedding."
Annabeth looked at him quizzically, but then seeming to be satisfied with whatever he said, she stepped closer to Percy, her fingers deftly adjusting the knot of his tie. "There," she said with a smile, "now you look perfect."
Percy couldn't help but feel a rush of warmth spread through him at her touch. "Thanks, Annabeth," he said, his voice soft. "You look amazing, by the way."
Annabeth's cheeks flushed a light pink at his compliment. "Thanks, Percy," she said, her voice equally soft. "You clean up pretty well yourself."
Percy chuckled, feeling his nerves start to settle as they continued to talk. "Yeah, well, I figured I should make a good impression on the bride and groom's families."
Annabeth grinned. "You mean you don't want to scare them off with your usual bedhead look?"
Percy playfully pushed her shoulder. "Hey now, I have a certain charm with the bedhead."
Annabeth rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but laugh. "Well, I can't see it myself so I guess I'll have to take your word for it."
Percy smirked. "Oh, you definitely should."
Before she could retort, Thalia whisked her away to help Sally set up the cake.
As the guests started to arrive, Percy joined Jason and Grover in making sure everything was in place for the wedding. They checked the seating arrangements, made sure the flowers were arranged perfectly, and ensured that the sound system was working properly. It was a hectic few moments, but the three of them managed to pull it off flawlessly. Percy couldn't help but feel a sense of pride as he looked around,Grover helping Juniper settle into a seat, Thalia smacking Jason on his head, his mom and Annabeth near the stunning cake, and the smiling faces of the guests. It was going to be a day to remember, not just for Leo and Calypso, but hopefully for him as well. The day he finally confessed his feelings to Annabeth.
Percy patted Leo's back and exchanged a nod with Jason, who was standing by Leo's side as his best man. He then walked towards his seat in the front row beside Annabeth. The soft melody of the wedding march filled the air, and all heads turned towards the aisle as Calypso made her grand entrance. Leo's reaction was priceless as he caught a glimpse of his bride.
He let out a boisterous "WOW!" that echoed through the cottage, his eyes glistening with tears of joy. The guests couldn't help but smile at Leo's display of emotion, and many eyes were now fixed on Calypso as she glided down the aisle in her lavender and white dress.
As Calypso reached the end of the aisle, she stood face to face with Leo, a smile spreading across her face. The two of them stood together, holding hands and looking into each other's eyes as the ceremony began. The sun shone down on them, the breeze gently blowing through the garden, creating a peaceful and romantic atmosphere.
The officiant cleared their throat and began, "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the union of Leo and Calypso in marriage. This is a joyous occasion, a celebration of the love and commitment between two individuals who have found each other in this vast world. Today, they pledge their love and devotion to each other, promising to support and care for one another through all of life's ups and downs."
Listening to their words transported Percy into a world of his own, he imagined himself in Leo's shoes, dedicating this to someone, pledging himself, all his faults, insecurities, fears, happiness and fortune to the one he loved. He glanced over at Annabeth, who was staring at the couple with a soft smile on her face and felt a warmth spread through his chest. He couldn't help but think about how much she meant to him, and how he hoped to one day make his own vows to her.
The officiant continued, "Marriage is a journey that two people take together, and it requires patience, understanding, and most importantly, love. Love is what brings us together today, and it is what will keep Leo and Calypso together for all the years to come. It is a bond that cannot be broken, a flame that cannot be extinguished, and a promise that cannot be forgotten."
Percy found himself nodding along with the words, feeling the weight of their truth. Love was powerful, and he could see that in the way Leo and Calypso looked at each other. They were a perfect match, two puzzle pieces that fit together perfectly. His hand started drifting towards Annabeth's of its own volition as his mind fully grasped the words that were being spoken.
"Leo and Calypso, do you take each other to be your lawfully wedded spouse, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, until death do you part?"
His hand jerked.
Leo and Calypso exchanged their heartfelt vows and slipped their rings onto each other's fingers, sealing their love and commitment to each other.
"I give you my heart, my soul, and my love, now and forever. I will cherish you always, and I promise to create a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. I vow to support you in your dreams and goals, and to always be your biggest cheerleader."
He moved his pinky finger slightly forward.
'I vow to love you completely and unconditionally, to be your rock and your shelter in times of need, and to support you in all of your dreams and aspirations. I will always be your partner, your confidante, and your best friend, and I will love you more with each passing day."
His finger brushed the softness of Annabeth's knuckles.
The officiant concluded the ceremony with a smile, "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride."
As Leo and Calypso sealed their marriage with a kiss, colourful fireworks exploded above them, no doubt one of Leo's creations. Percy was lost in the moment, feeling the rush of emotions that came with witnessing two people declare their love for each the sound of fireworks jolted him back to reality. He made a move to withdraw his hand's journey towards Annabeth's, but instead, he felt himself being completely enveloped in the warmth and softness of her palm, and he turned to look into her eyes.
What he saw in them was more heart-pounding than any fireworks. It was a look of understanding, acceptance, and love. Suddenly, all of Percy's insecurities and second guesses vanished, replaced by a sense of calm and clarity. He knew, and so did she, that they were meant to be together. And at that moment, that was all that tightened his grip. They watched the fireworks together, hand in hand, knowing that their own love story was just beginning.
After hours of dancing and music and fun, almost all the guests had departed, while the newlyweds were already off to the airport.
Annabeth was lost in thought, carelessly twirling her fork in the frosting of the cake, her mind drifting back to the ceremony. She had been so caught up in the moment, listening to the officiant read the beautiful vows that Leo and Calypso had written for each other, that she didn't realize she had felt a pang in her heart during the ceremony, a mixture of happiness and sadness. Happiness for her friend who had found his soulmate, but also a twinge of longing for something she had yet to experience. But when she had felt the warmth and familiarity envelop her as the sky had exploded, she now knew for certain she was just on the precipice of finding her home and that sadness and that bit of envy she was feeling before were gone in an instant.
Her thoughts were broken when she heard a clink. She frowned and examined the fork, noticing that it had hit something solid. Intrigued, she carefully dug through the frosting, revealing a small slip of paper. She pulled it out and unfolded it, her eyes scanning the words scrawled on it.
In the heart of the town lies a place of green,
with slides, swings, and a jolly scene.
The shadows are where memories roam
It's time the sea docked at home!
Annabeth was taken aback for a moment, confusion clouding her mind, but then suddenly, Percy's words from last week about doing things right this time, came back to her and it all made sense, or she desperately hoped it did.
Her heart was filled with glee, as she knew where Percy wanted her to be - the abandoned playground with the pirate ship. As Annabeth walked outside, she took a deep breath of the fresh evening air, feeling the cool breeze on her face. She remembered passing the park on her way to the venue and started walking in that direction.
As she walked, her mind started racing with thoughts of Percy. She couldn't help but wonder if she had read this all wrong and if it was just a silly joke. She tried to push the thoughts aside and focus on the task at hand, but her heart was racing with anticipation. Finally, she saw the playground in the distance, and her pace quickened. She felt like a kid again, running towards the pirate ship with a sense of excitement and wonder.
As the ship came into view, she stopped in her tracks. It was decorated with fairy lights, making it look like a magical ship sailing through the night. The lights twinkled and danced, casting a warm glow on everything around them. Annabeth couldn't help but smile at the sight, feeling grateful for the man who had brought her here. She made her way towards the ship, climbing up the wooden stairs and onto the deck. There she saw Percy, standing at the bow of the ship, looking out into the night.
He had shrugged out of his coat jacket and when she saw what else he was wearing, she couldn't resist the giggle that escaped her. Hearing her, he turned around adorning a pirate hat and an eye patch.
"Ahoy! Matey!"
Annabeth chuckled as she approached him. "Percy, what are you doing?" she asked, trying to hold back her laughter.
"I'm a pirate, obviously," he replied, turning to face her with a mischievous grin on his face.
"I can see that," she said, biting her lip to stop herself from laughing out loud. "But why are you dressed like one?"
"Well, I wanted to set the mood," Percy said with a shrug. "And I thought it would be a fun way to get your attention."
Annabeth shook her head, still chuckling. "Well, you definitely got my attention."
Percy chuckled too, taking off the eye patch and hat. "I'm glad to hear that. So, did you like the little puzzle I left for you?"
"Wasn't good enough to tickle my brain but you get an A for effort."
"Our guest is unsatisfied, huh, then what about another one?" Percy quirked an eyebrow and smirked at her confusion.
Percy grinned mischievously and said, "Ahoy, matey! Ye must solve me riddle to find the treasure I've hidden on this here ship. What is it that has a heart but doesn't beat?"
Annabeth raised an eyebrow, amused by Percy's pirate talk, and thought for a moment before answering, "A deck of cards."
Percy clapped his hands, impressed. "Well done, me hearty! Ye've solved the riddle, now to find the treasure.
"Look for a red gem, shaped like a heart, hidden where sailors often chart."
Annabeth looked around the ship, following Percy's clue. This focus on solving the riddle did help to calm her nerves down a bit and dwell on the spectrum of emotions she had been feeling all night. After a few minutes of searching, she spotted a glint of red in a small alcove near the ship's wheel. Sure enough, there was a red heart-shaped necklace tucked away in the corner.
She turned to Percy with a smile, holding up the necklace. "Found it!"
She then took a closer look at the necklace and remembered trying it on the day they had gone shopping. Annabeth looked at Percy with a mix of confusion and surprise. "You bought this for me?" she asked, holding up the necklace.
Percy nodded, his expression serious. "I did. I saw how much you liked it when we were shopping and I wanted to surprise you."
Annabeth felt her heart swell with emotion. "Percy, you didn't have to do that," she said softly.
"I wanted to," Percy replied, taking the necklace from her and stepping closer. "May I?" he asked, gesturing towards her neck.
Annabeth nodded, feeling a sudden shyness come over her. She turned her back towards Percy, lifting her hair out of the way as he carefully fastened the necklace around her neck.
As he worked, Percy spoke softly. "Annabeth, I know we have had our share of ups and downs, but I want you to know that I've always cared about you, and always will. And I hope that this necklace can be a reminder of that."
Annabeth felt her heart race as she turned around to look into Percy's eyes. She could see the sincerity and depth of his emotions, and it made her feelings bubble up to the surface.
"Percy," she said softly, "I...I don't know what to say. I care about you too, so much. And these past few months have been some of the best of my life, because you've been a part of them."
He smiled at her words, looking suddenly more confident and took a deep breath."I know we've been through a lot together, and I've been holding this in for a while now, but I can't hold it in anymore," he started, taking Annabeth's hand in his. "Every time I'm near you, my heart beats faster and I feel like I'm on top of the world. You're my best friend, my confidante, and my partner in crime. I want to make more memories with you and share more adventures. I want to be there for you through the good times and the bad, and I want you to be there for me. I know it won't always be easy, but I'm willing to face anything as long as I have you by my side."
Annabeth tried to compose herself and not melt under the sincerity of his gaze. She willed her brain to form some coherent words when Percy looked at her expectantly.
"I want you to know that you make me feel the same way. You make me feel alive and happy and like I can take on anything. You bring out the best in me, and also the worst." He chuckled at that. "And I am so thankful that life showed my stubborn ass the way back to you."
Percy took a step forward and gently placed his hands on Annabeth's waist, pulling her close. Annabeth looked up into his eyes and smiled before closing the gap between them, pressing her lips to his. The kiss was gentle at first, a soft brush of their lips, but quickly deepened as they both leaned into each other.
Percy wrapped his arms around her, pulling her even closer, and Annabeth ran her fingers through his hair. As they finally pulled away, they rested their foreheads against each other.
"In case it wasn't glaringly obvious, I am kinda in love with you."
"I kinda got that."
"Just making sure, don't wanna have a repeat of last time, you're pretty stupid sometimes."
Annabeth smacked him on the shoulder. Percy laughed, rubbing his shoulder. "Ow, hey, that hurt!"
Annabeth rolled her eyes but couldn't stop the smile on her face. "You deserved it. And for the record, I'm not the stupid one. Remember that time you tried to use a hammer to fix a leaky faucet?"
"Hey, that was one time," Percy protested, still grinning.
Annabeth shook her head in amusement. "You're lucky that you're cute and that I also love you."
Percy's grin turned into a soft smile. "I'm so lucky to have you."
Annabeth leaned in for another kiss, wrapping her arms around Percy's neck as he pulled her closer. They stayed that way for a few moments, lost in each other until the moment was interrupted by a howl. They both looked at each other, realizing that they were still in the middle of the abandoned playground.
"I guess we can continue this at my place?" said Annabeth.
Percy nodded a mischievous glint in his eye. "Yup, good call. Let's go before we get attacked by any more monsters."
They got down from the pirate ship and made their way back, laughing while holding hands. They were filled with happiness and anticipation for what the future held for them, and the adventures they would encounter side by side.
