Chaos Rising: Chaotic Evolution

Chapter 12 Teaser

His head hurt. Everything hurt. The cold stone was a balm under his cheek, even as the rough uneven stones bit into the skin. He just lay there in the darkness of his closed eyelids, reveling in the inability to see anything. Memories started to bubble up to the surface, memories of teeth snapping and the gleaming dead eyes of a crocodile. He shuddered, the memories skittered away even as he curled in upon himself. Amemiet. The devourer of hearts.

He heard nothing but his own heartbeat for a while, reassuring him that he was still alive, even as he remembered feeling it torn out. Shuddered again. Blackness. Nothing but blackness. In the blackness there was no pain.

A small whimper brought him back to himself. There was someone he had needed to protect. Someone who'd been…in trouble…

Kouichi!

He forced himself out of the blackness that tried to cling to him. Tried to drag him down. He needed to push it away. He grabbed on to the faint noise, to the cold stone, to the draft he could feel tickling his hair across his nose.

Kouji came back to himself with a start, eyes shooting open wide, and breathing hard. He still shook from the after effects of…of what? He tried to remember, tried to push past the pain, past the dead eyes of the crocodile…Anubimon. He remembered Shyamon—trapped with the others—and Anubimon was fast—too fast. He'd reacted, tried to evolve—anything, but there had been a steel grip on his wrist and then blinding pain. His hand had spasmed…he remembered that…

His D-Scanner! Frantically he searched his pockets, his jacket, even his bandana, for the familiar device. Nothing. Nothing. He'd had his D-Scanner in his hand.

Kouji cursed, pounding his empty fist on the ground. There was a faint light drifting in from a small opening high on the cell wall, and he could see smears of dark, slightly shiny stains spreading below his aching fist.

He lost his spirits. He was nothing.

A/N: So…surprise? I have some questions if anyone is still reading this (which I like to think is true, since I recently got a review which almost guilt tripped me into working on this). As you can tell, I am reviving this fic. Shocker, innit it? 7 years, yay. I'm working on re-writing this fic, as well as the last few chapters. Some of the major plot points will stay the same, but I will be adding quite a bit (I finally figured out what is going wrong with the Digital World after all these years x.x), as well as just overall editing. My tenses were atrocious.

Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to ask, is should I replace the chapters of this current fic with the new ones, or would it be better to create a new fic with the rewrite and leave this one up for posterities sake?

I'm leaning toward the latter tbh, but I'd like any opinions that are out there.
