Sorry that this chapter has been so long in the works, I've had heaps of schoolwork to do, and there's still more :\ But I thought Hey, it's the holidays, so take that schoolwork. :] Anyway, characters owned by Clare are owned by Clare, Raven and Luna are owned by Queen of Pinkie's Cupcakes :-) DRUMROLL... Chapter 5, everybody :]
Jordan paced loudly.
"Maybe it's just you. Y'know...with Clary and Jace and everything. You sure it's not about them getting married that is making the mark go weird?" He said. "And by weird I mean not the usual 'one touch and you are dust' thing."
Simon considered this, quickly making up his mind.
"No...I really am happy for them. For Clary anyway" He said.
Jordan paced over to the sofa Simon was folded into. Over the three days since the intruder incident, they had thought endlessly over the long list of Simon's enemies, most of which were either already dead. Or just plain angry. And, frankly, they had not left out the ones who might return- demons included.
Jordan put his arms in the air like he was surrendering to something.
"Okay, well...that's my last idea gone. Now I am beginning to accept that anything even remotely involved with you is wacky. No offence or anything."
"Thanks. That straightened everything out. Couldn't have thought that without you." Sarcasm. Never ends well when you've lost a few nights sleep. Simon sighed.
"At least we are both on the same page. Right back at the beginning." He said.
Stressed over a possible revisit from the intruder... Intruders, Simon was exhausted. He couldn't lie to himself- the thought of an unknown person...Or creature for that matter- watching him intently, waiting for the right opportunity to end his life, or the lives of the people around him. His mother. Clary. Jordan. Luke. Eric. Isabelle... It horrified him to the core. But, more terrifying than that, was the inescapable fact that whatever this person or creature was, Simon knew he had to face them by himself. To protect the people he cares for.
"Like Aang and the Firelord." He said aloud without realising.
"What?" Jordan asked. "Daylighter, we are in reality, not the four nations here. I'm trying to help..." Simon stopped him before he started on one of his usual rants. They had become more frequent these past few days.
"Yes, yes, I know. Sorry." There was a short pause before Simon spoke again. "Maybe Magnus would know something about this?"
Jordan smirked.
"I did think of that...But the wedding has set some kind of 'good mood' over at the institute, so I wouldn't want to go over there right now. Unless the almighty Daylighter is brave enough to walk in on the High Warlock of Brooklyn during his date with one of the best Shadowhunters?" He raised his eyebrows in challenge.
Simon backtracked.
"Uh...I am brave enough. I killed demons during the war. I just... Wouldn't want to disturb them, that's all." Jordan's laugh echoed throughout the empty house.
"And there it is! The legends of the most powerful wuss in the world!" Simon couldn't help but laugh at his friend. The echoed laughs came in sets of two for some time before dying down to humble chuckles.
"Speaking of cool powers, though, how's the teleport front?" Jordan asked.
"Uh, non-existent for a while. I've just been in the flat." He paused. "I wish I knew more about it. The mark. It would explain so much of this weirdness." The room fell quiet again. Then Simon caught a glimpse of Jordan's wolf ears pricking up along with his face. Obviously, he'd come across an idea.
"I have an idea! But you're probably not going to agree with me. So I will just be back in a moment." Jordan stood up and made for the front door.
"Wait, where are you going? There's a killer watching me. In case you forgot."
Jordan waved it off, in a hurry to get wherever he was headed.
"You'll be fine! No one with a sense of self-preservation would scratch you with that mark on your forehead. In case you forgot. I won't be long- I'll be right back!" Jordan closed the door before Simon had any time to argue.
The flat fell silent again. To Simon it felt like a box. A box that, when inside, you never know when the next strike will come.
So he waited.
The werewolf left the house.
"Follow him." The princess ordered one of the fledgelings that whimpered pathetically behind her. They looked at each other, giving confused glances at the ones they thought should do as the royal ordered.
The Princess rolled her eyes and turned from her position of watching the young vampire in the house. Luna giggled next to her, making the fledgelings shiver where they stood.
"Surely Raphael the Head Vampire of New York doesn't surround himself with useless minions such as yourselves. I suggest one of you do as I say and follow the young wolf boy, or the Head Vampire of New York will have to do his own killing from now on."
Luna wondered from the tall princess's side, stalking menacingly along the group as they shook even more at the dangerous werewolf right under their noses. Luna stopped under one, and singled him out. She took him by his white shirt collar.
"Are you obedient to your future queen?" Luna spoke right in his face, her full wolf scent gathering in his nose, and, trying to hide it, his teeth lengthened.
"O,o, of course..." The fledgeling whimpered.
" Then why don't ya take one for the team. Go!"
Luna dropped him, and he recovered himself quickly before running in the direction of the wolf boy. The other fledgelings still shook as Luna paraded smugly around the group, then she rejoined the Princess at her watch post. Raven eyed her prize in the house keenly, with a fanged smile.
"Do you know, Luna? I think today is the day we introduce ourselves." They shared a glance, and they knew what to do. Years of working together have brought entire strategies down to smirks and growls.
"Why not? I love meeting new people. Can Lollipop come too?" Princess Raven continued staring into the house.
"We won't be needing her today, but there will be plenty of time for our new guest to meet her later." She said with a smirk.
Luna smiled eagerly, anticipating the introduction. The Princess moved.
"You know what to do. Let's go."
