Chapter 4 Meeting Shrek Again
Quanktumspirit: "Just so you know, my idea of the Fairy Godmothers' potions place will be quite different to the actual movie. Just read and you will see what I mean. This idea is quite cute."
Requested author: retro mania.
It was early the same evening. Fiona and Ariel quietly left Fiona's chambers and broke into the Fairy Godmothers' secret underground potions' laboratory. Ariel stood outside to serve as a lookout, and Fiona scanned all the potions over.
There was a potion literally for every problem ever. Oh, my goodness. Fiona had no idea where to start. But then she noticed some potions glowing more than others. She quickly found the potion she wanted.
"Want to look like how you feel for just one night. Drink this and you will be beautiful again." Fiona smirked.
Fiona chuckled and quickly hid it in her bra, leaving the laboratory quietly. Luckily it was one potion where there were many bottles of it in the Fairy Godmothers lab. So god knows how she was even making them.
Fiona quietly tapped Ariel's back and motioned for her to get back again before anyone would notice. The two left back to Fiona's chambers, luckily no one noticed the absence or theft.
Back in her chambers, Fiona removed the potion and showed Ariel the bottle.
Ariel raised a confused eyebrow, "Want to look like how you feel for just one night. Drink this and you will be beautiful again? But don't you normally have to feel happy and excited to look beautiful?"
"Indeed. And if this can work on ALL emotions Ariel, then I'm very sure with how hurt and down I've been feeling for a while, I'm sure to turn into something very ugly. Like... an ogress, maybe?" Fiona beamed.
"What? Princess, you're joking, right? An ogre is the most hideous creature ever to exist in the Fairy tale world. And you really want to turn into one?" Ariel panicked.
Fiona sighs and looks down, "It will be a completely different view, yes Ariel... and I just wanna... I wanna..."
Fiona's face glowed bright red, she was thinking about that ogre Shrek again.
"Oh, Fiona, you want to meet Shrek again? That mud delivery man?" Ariel chuckled, "I've seen him quite a few times walking round town and delivering the mud often."
"'sighs' yes Ariel. I don't know why. But he is quite good-looking. For an ogre at least, and seems to have a stable job. And despite the fact I'm a princess, he spoke to me and asked me about my concerns and if I wanted something and not just because I'm a princess, but because I'm me." Fiona smiles, "I just wish to see him again and thank him."
"Ok, ok princess, I'll help you out. Change into your most normal and dullest looking dress, then drink the potion. I'll smuggle you out with a cloak on and pretend you're another servant of the castle. Then we can escape to the town and spend a day there. Just tell your family you want to go on a bookshop tour and visit your friend Bell in the neighboring town." Ariel pointed out.
Fiona beamed and embraced Ariel to her chest, "Thank you, Ariel. That's a splendid idea."
Later that afternoon, Fiona had to go to the dinning room for lunch.
King Harold, Queen, Lillian and Prince Charming were waiting for her again.
Fiona took her seat quickly and selected her lunch. Some rice with chicken.
"Darling, why do you keep pulling yourself away from us?" Queen Lillian asked her daughter, a little hurt, "Prince Charming hasn't seen you for a few days now. Heck, Ariel has seen you more often in your chambers then he has."
Fiona clenched her fists under the table in fury, 'Yes, and why don't I want to see him? Because he's a rapist jerk who hurt my poor maid. Jackass.'
But Fiona had quickly a different and better idea, "Oh sorry mother. It's just... I've been so alone for twenty-three years, I just need to get used to having more people around me. And so far I only feel the safest and happiest with Ariel, my maid."
"Ah, I got an idea," Prince Charming suddenly spoke up, smiling, "How about we invite the Queen of Hearts and the King of Hearts for a round of Wonderland croquet?"
"Oh splendid dearest. I'm sure you'll love it." Queen Lillian beamed. "We'd better get organized."
And in a hurry, everyone raced around the castle to get everything organized. Fiona beamed, this was her chance.
The late evening came. Whiles everyone was still working on the gathering, and yes the Queen of Hearts and King of Hearts did arrive that evening, Fiona meet as agreed with Ariel by the maid's chambers.
Quickly, Fiona downed the potion and changed into the brown maid's uniform and gray hooded cloak. Fiona looked in the mirror and saw she looked like an ogress again.
'Yes, it worked,' she cheered in her mind.
Ariel looked at her worried, "You sure about this, Fiona?"
"Looking like this, no one will be able to tell who I really am." Fiona grinned. "Now quickly as agreed, let's get out of here."
"Ok..." Ariel said, a little unsure.
Ariel looked left and right and quickly ran with Fiona down the hallways to the servants exits. As they reached the door, Ariel stopped Fiona, and she nodded, she had to stand behind her and pretend to be a servant herself.
"Hold it, who is this, please?" The royal guard inquired, pointing right at Fiona.
Ariel froze, "Excuse me? This is my own personal slave, thank you. Her name is... Grogda. An ogre servant."
Fiona froze and tried to not pull a face, the royal guard grabbed her arm and moved the hood, suddenly the ogre appearance came to view.
"Oh sorry, Grogda. We were just worried it was the princess or something. Ok, you may proceed." The guard said, stepping back.
Fiona growled at him a bit, but didn't speak. Ariel shook the rains and her cart road out of the castle and into the night.
The journey didn't take that long. Ariel just road her coach to her home and parked it up, before anyone would miss her.
Fiona jumped off the cart and hugged her maid.
"Ariel, I can't thank you enough." Fiona beams.
Ariel just grabbed a torch, lit it and handed it to Fiona.
"Just go and see if you can find the ogres again. And thank them again for the bath." She instructed, "Make sure to be back here before sun rise, cause then the potion will lift itself again."
Fiona nodded, she grabbed the torch and faced the forest by Ariel's home. It was actually known as the 'forbidden forest' because everyone wanted to stay away from the ogres as far as possible. But now Fiona was just downright curious about them.
As Fiona was walking, for some reason, she remembered where Shrek took her the first time they had married and loved one another. The rout was actually very easy to find. No wonder the villagers always hunted him. Poor Shrek.
About half an hour later, Fiona saw the familiar green signs around her.
Ogre's property, private land, go away, get out now if you don't want to be eaten and many more. Fiona swallowed a bit and hoped, as an ogress, she could get to him this way anyway.
Fiona kept heading deeper and deeper into the forest and to the way of his home. As she finally passed, what felt like the one hundredth or so sign did she find it.
"Shrek?" Fiona called out.
The home of Shrek was, like in the movies, standing all alone and dead center in the swamp. Fiona ran towards it as fast as she could and stopped in front of the door.
"Shrek, you here?" Fiona called into it.
She knocked, but there was no reply. Fiona blinked and opened the door wider. Shrek's home had a lot of dust, cobwebs, mold and looked just completely run down for several years.
Fiona looked left and right, but Shrek wasn't in, or at least, hasn't lived here for quite some time.
Fiona did however find a randomly left behind note of Shrek. She picked it up and felt her heart break.
The note read: "Why do I have to live so alone? Why won't anyone love an ogre like me? Am I destined to be alone forever? I will have to leave my home to find my true love."
"Shrek?" Fiona blinked shocked.
She suddenly felt very sad. Shrek, she is certain, did love her with all his heart. And mainly cause Fiona loved him for who he once was: a loving, caring and protective father to their three children. And most of all, faithful.
"I got to find him," Fiona sighs.
She closed his home off, but not before pocketing in the small Shrek doll she found in there, and then she left his swamp. Hoping to find him.
Fiona headed deeper into the forbidden forest. It was very creepy. Not only because it was now sunset and getting darker. All the old, crooked and black trees planted everywhere, vines hanging round the place and the millions of animals all looking at her worried and scared.
'I wonder if this is how Snow White felt as she fled from the Huntsman and her evil Step-mother.' Fiona asked.
Though, it was a little odd that the surrounding animals seemed to be more scared and terrified of her appearance than she was of them. Like a snake just looked at Fiona and as quickly as its wrinkly body could move, the snake shot into the opposite direction out of fear.
Toads, frogs, spiders and all sorts fled from her appearance. Fiona chuckled a bit. Well, she is different now.
Suddenly Fiona froze, she heard in the distance a soft beating noise, like someone was hitting drums or something like that. Fiona sniffed the air and scrunched her nose back as the very strong smell of beer, whiskey, whine and most of all mud came to her nose.
Quietly she headed further, in the distance she saw a massive camp fire burning up, spikes were held into the fire which seem to be a massive amount of rats. And around the camp fire, Fiona counted a dozen ogres.
'The ogre home?' Fiona questioned herself.
She saw they all were dressed in various Shepard type of clothing. Similar to her own. There were males, female and children ogres as well. But Fiona couldn't distinguish who could be Shrek.
The ogers looked very big and strong, stronger then herself even. Fiona walked forth and tried to determin who Shrek was in this mass, but no one was even looking like his build.
An ogress noticed Fiona coming in, "Hey, welcome back. How was your, scaring of the villagers?"
Fiona froze as the ogress faced her, she had a broken tooth, some other teeth sticking out of her mouth, her hair was just like Fiona's red and braided on her head and she was wearing a dark brown dress with no shoes.
"Oh, I'm doing quite well. I even terrified several horses of those trespassers to get off my land." Fiona pretended and laughed.
The ogress laughed alongside her and patted her rock next to her for Fiona to sit, she shrugs and sits by her. All the ogres seem to be more free spirited than Fiona first thought. But Shrek was still nowhere to be seen. Where is he?
"Um... sorry, what's your name, miss?" Fiona inquired the other ogress
"I'm Bertha." The ogress smiles at her, "And you?"
Fiona thought back to the name Ariel gave her ogress form and remembered it, "I'm Grogda, n- I mean revolting to meet you."
Bertha blinked a bit and the two shook hands quite hard. Suddenly an ogre male ran up to them.
"Hey Bertha, Grogdar stand in line, our leader is coming." The male ogre shouted at them.
Fiona blinked and everyone got up quickly, from the fog Fiona saw one of the biggest and strongest looking ogres, it was Shrek. Now Shrek had changed from his gray tunic to a dark brown long cloak and vest, as well as a brown pair of pants and brown big boots.
All the ogres seem to roar and cheer, seeing him. Shrek just smirked and raised one hand, it was instantly dead silence.
"RRRROOOOOOAAAAARRRRRRRR!" Shrek screamed at the top of his lungs.
He was so loud, Fiona was sure they'd wake up the entire neighborhood. But if Fiona thought Shrek was loud, she was in for an almost shock as every single ogre roared then after him, creating a tunnel of racket so loud that Fiona has ever heard.
"RRRROOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRR, RRRROOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRR, RRRROOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRR, RRRROOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRR." All the ogres screamed together, shaking the earth.
Fiona couldn't even breath or roar back in the chorus, this was just very surprising. But seeing as there were so many, she'd hope Shrek won't notice it. But he did.
"SILENCE!" Shrek suddenly screamed.
The roaring, cheering and celebration suddenly stopped. Shrek got off the front and walked among the line, patting and praising several ogres as he got to the very back. Fiona panicked quite a bit, because he was coming right towards her.
As Shrek was at her side he looked Fiona up and down, she looked like a normal ogre, but why wasn't she cheering along to the others?
"You," Shrek demanded, pointing a finger at Fiona, "Why haven't you cheered along with us? Has something happened?"
Fiona froze, all the other ogres faced her as well, waiting for her reply.
"Well... I... yes... um..." Was all Fiona could say as her brain seemed to short fuse.
A different ogress next to her chuckled, "Don't worry, deary. Shrek may be the strongest and most feared ogre of all of us, but in truth he has a heart of gold for the well-being of all of us."
Fiona felt a small blush coming on, the ogress was very right. Fiona recalls in all her years living with Shrek she had the greatest freedom ever and happiness with him. Nothing was ever demanded of him to her and they had three beautiful children too. What was Fiona thinking, just wanting a more complicated life when the easy life was what she'd always wanted.
Fiona had to quickly come up with a reply: "I'm sorry, my lord. But... I saw the corps wearing a kingdoms symbol of a knight. It shocked me because I got injured not too long ago in a fight with some other villagers who tried to burn me with torches... I could just about escape from them and just got suddenly scared, seeing the same symbol again."
Fiona pointed to a dead corpse, wearing the kingdoms colors. Shrek and the other ogres blinked and nodded. Quickly, the body had the cloths ripped to shreds and shattered to pieces.
Whiles the body was being, disrespectfully taken care of, Shrek turned back to Fiona.
"Oh so sorry miss. Yes, true, some humans colors can bring back pains." Shrek said nodding his head, "Still that is no reason to disrespect your family. So if you please."
Fiona gritted her teeth, was Shrek seriously demanding her to scream? Mh ok...
Fiona gathered all her thoughts, the way Prince Charming saved her, how she didn't feel happy with him, how he and the Fairy Godmother always place themselves above everyone else and last but not least, Prince Charming almost raping her maid Ariel.
Fiona felt her body grow incredibly warm, she felt her blood rushing round her body and ears, her eyes turned red, and she screamed finally all her hurt out.
"RRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAARRRRRRR!" She bellowed at the top of her lungs.
The scream was so loud, it silenced everyone again. As Fiona finished and shot her head forward, she felt out of breath. Looking up, she saw Shrek having very wide eyes and gaping at her a little bit, along with everyone else.
Then suddenly she was surprised as Shrek embraced her hard, "Now that's a scream. Well done Grogdar, well done."
All the other ogres cheered along with Shrek, he smiles, let her down and patted her back as a well done.
"Um... thank you, sir." Fiona smiles, blushing a little.
Shrek then had an idea, "Hey would you like to see our crowning achievement Grogdar? Come, I'll invite you for a ride."
Fiona blinked, "Wait, what?"
Fiona finished her meal and drink quickly, Shrek grabbed her hand and ran with her away from the Ogre camp to the far back of the village of Ogres. The walk took them about twenty minutes and they arrived.
Fiona looked confused, it was just a huge, empty, burned piece of land. Shrek smiles at her as he placed two fingers between his lips.
"Fweet, fweet." Shrek went.
Fiona looked up, she gasped as she saw Dragon back again.
"No way, you got a dragon?" Fiona shrieked surprised.
Dragon landed and nodded her head, Fiona also saw she had on a saddle to sit on and Shrek pulled out a second saddle and placed that behind the first one.
"Yes. She just appeared outside our camp. We nourished and nurtured her to full strength, and now she serves us." Shrek smiles.
He threw a few dead ferrets up to the Dragon, who caught and eaten them, delighted. Then she went lower and Shrek climbed on her back, he faced Fiona with a smile and stretched his hand out for her.
"Want to take a flight on her? Just hold on tight." Shrek smiles.
Fiona cheers inside herself, nods, and climbs behind Shrek. She holds on and pats Shrek on the back that she was ready for take off.
Shrek smiles and felt a small blush paint his cheeks, "Ok, Dragon let's show her what you're made of."
Dragon smiles and nods her head, she flaps her wings down and Shrek and Fiona were airborne in mere minutes. Fiona felt a huge breeze of cold wind blow around them as they were lifted into the air. Higher and higher they flew until they passed even the lowest of clouds and mountains and the moon was just above them along with stars.
Fiona looked down and saw the ogre swamp camp with the homes, then came the forbidden forest, then the town where her Maid lived in Far Far Away, she even saw her parents and her castle and the older castle where she had been held captive for twenty-three years. Just basically everything.
Fiona kept gasping, "This is so amazing, Shrek. Thank you."
"No problem Grogdar. I'll just set her to land, you're feeling a little cold." Shrek smiles.
Dragon turns suddenly and flew the rout back to the forbidden forest and back to the Ogre camp. As dragon landed, Fiona was let off carefully and Shrek jumped off the Dragon too. Both 'ogres' smiled and held hands.
Dragon nodded and retreated back to her cave. She was tired and needed some rest.
"Miss Grogdar, it's been an amazing evening, thank you." Shrek smiles at her.
Fiona nods as the two walked back to the camp, hand in hand and Shrek embracing her close to his body.
How can it be that Shrek has made her feel so much love and care for in one night, then Charming could ever do in a day. And looking into his eyes, Fiona knew he felt the same about her.
Suddenly she froze, she saw at the edge of the forest her maid: Ariel back again. She looked frantic and pointed towards the horizon. No, has her evening ended already?
"I... I liked it too, Shrek. But sorry. I got to get back to my house quickly." Fiona said in a panic.
Fiona quickly got up and dropped the doll, she ran as fast as her two feet could carry her to the boarder of the ogre camp and her town. Shrek blinked and quickly stood up again.
"But Grogdar, wait... you don't need to run, dear. Wait, please." Shrek called after her.
But Fiona and the maid were just as quickly out of sight as ever. Shrek ran after them, Fiona and Ariel quickly hid behind a tree and Fiona felt her body shifting and turning her back into her princess form. Her red hair shone more red, her skin was back to being white, and she shrunk in size again.
Shrek ran past them, still calling her wrong name out. Fiona looked left and right, and she and Ariel fled together back to the castle. Shrek was none the wiser Fiona wasn't who she said she was, not even her real form.
Fiona and Ariel reached her home even before anyone was awake. The two crept, unnoticed by anyone, back up to Fiona's room and then collapsed together on her bed.
"Wow Princess. You've had quite a wild night." Ariel giggled. "Tell me all about it."
Fiona did, and Ariel's eyes widened. She was amazed how much fun Fiona had in just 12 hours with Shrek then she ever did with Prince Charming.
"Wow, wow, wow, you're saying your guard dragon is now in the ogre's territory as their flight attendant or such?" Ariel asked as Fiona stopped to catch her breath.
Fiona beams, "Yes indeed. And their leader, Shrek, has invited me to fly with him on her. It was the most amazing flight I've ever had."
Fiona's face suddenly fell, she sighs and looks to the side, a little upset.
"What's now happened, Fiona?" Ariel asked her worried, "Did he hurt you?"
"No Ariel, not one bit... just..." Fiona sighs, blushing, "I think I've... I think I might have fallen in love with him. Again."
Ariel blinks, Fiona sighs and felt tears falling from her face. She now understood what she actually gave up. She never really wanted her beauty, but just to be loved for who she was. And that was definitely Shrek.
