Shizuo was a mermaid, one of royal birth and the only daughter of the king. On the plus side, she was showered with affection and more wealth than she knew what to do with. On the other side she received jealousy, contempt and assassination attempts. She hadn't chosen to be born royalty and she'd give it up in a heartbeat.
What she really wanted was unattainable. Freedom and a heart. She'd found a legend in the archives, confiscated as soon as she'd asked a question. Apparently her ancestor had made a bargain with a sea witch to be human, so she could be with the one she wanted. It had cost her her voice. The story had drawn her in. The mermaid had ended up with both her freedom and love.
After being paraded around yet another palace party, where she was shown to certain mermen, Shizuo called it a night, swimming to her room.
She left the palace, sneaking out past the guards and gate. She had a goal. Shizuo was going to the sea witch, otherwise known as the Kraken or Izaya.
Unlike the legends of the previous sea witches, Izaya had a palace of his own, he had servants, it was just a darker colour scheme. Shizuo had been forbidden from going anywhere near it. Her father would ground her for life if he knew she'd not only gone to the palace but was going to meet the sea witch.
She was stopped by the guards and led inside. Shizuo followed the red path leading to the throne. The sea witch was sprawled out, black tentacles relaxed, tapering into a lithe man, with black hair and red eyes.
"Princess, Shizu-chan." The sea witch smirked, popping something into his mouth. Food of some sort. "You are far from home."
"Sea witch, Izaya." Shizuo smoothed a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I wish to bargain."
The sea witch laughed, low and amused. "Reading fairytales before bed? Maybe you want legs to walk on land? Don't tell me you've fallen in love."
Shizuo nodded. "Yes."
Izaya sighed, tentacles slowly coiling as he moved. "Oh, Shizu-chan. Those are fairytales. The humans are cruel and greedy."
Shizuo set her jaw. "You can do it though?"
Izaya gave her a pitiful look. "Yes, but there is a cost."
"My voice?" Shizuo asked a little too quickly.
"Not enough." Izaya shrugged. "Your voice and your virginity in human form."
Shizuo frowned. "Okay."
The sea witch sighed. "You're a fool, Shizu-chan. Very well."
Shizuo had legs. She had no scales and her new legs were entangled with Izaya's tentacles. She had no voice. Izaya had stolen it with a kiss. So no one could hear her as she was deflowered. Shizuo writhed and fell under the onslaught of new sensations. Throughout it all, the sea witch watched and took what was owed.
Shizuo woke on a beach. She was clothed and alone. She also had no problems walking. She'd gotten what she wanted though. Well not exactly, but close enough. Shizuo opened her hand, finding a cracked black pearl. It shattered and was swept away. Shizuo smiled.
It wasn't a world of princes and princesses or true love. The modern world was nothing like her ancestor's tale. There were people everywhere, they didn't care who they bumped into. Everyone was fast and busy. Shizuo thankfully had identification, thanks to the sea witch. She'd fit in. She had a goal and she'd fulfil it. Already she'd found her freedom.
The palace-not his-was in an uproar, it had been when the king's only daughter had apparently run away, and only got worse with each passing month. It had been two years since the princess had entered into a bargain. He'd made sure she would fit in with the humans, had the right identification and had a way back to his palace. All she had to do was blow the little flute and she'd find herself at his tentacles.
Given what he knew of the princess, Izaya had expected a month at best. It was now two years. He'd allowed his palace to be swept through, along with the rest of the ocean, as the king continued the search for his daughter. Well, it was getting noisier and he'd just have to check if she'd found what she'd been after. Hopefully she wasn't dead or a victim to human base desires.
Shizuo loved her life. There were some times she missed her father and the sea witch, but she'd succeeded in her calling and the goals that were achievable were complete. Shizuo worked at a rescue centre. Well she owned it. Sometimes she even let humans in. A sucker pulled painfully from her cheek, leaving a mark. Shizuo eyed the little tentacle waving around. Her son giggled.
He did have a human form, but her child preferred that of an octopus, draped over her shoulders. He spoke on a frequency that only sea creatures could hear. It looked like she was a bit too human. "Mama."
Shizuo smiled as she always did. She had the sea witch to thank for her little miracle. She hadn't gotten what she truly wanted, but her sweet child meant the world to her. If there was anything she regretted it was her voice. She didn't mind using the phone to talk, but the fact she couldn't speak to her baby hurt. Instead she cuddled him every moment she had and made sure her affection was through actions and not words.
Shizuo smiled as the door opened letting a customer in. With her son wrapped around her, she picked up her phone and pressed one of the preset phrases.
"Good morning, welcome to Sea creatures rescue centre. What can I do for you?"
The man stopped and looked at her. Shizuo stared back seeing light brown hair and blue eyes. Something drew her to him, but she'd already given her heart to someone and she hadn't taken it back.
"Forgive me please, I am mute but I can still use a phone."
The man was still staring.
"Mama."
Ah. If it wasn't the mute thing, it was the octopus thing.
"The little one is harmless." Shizuo pressed. "How may I help you today?"
Humans. Shizuo eyed the wary male. Why did they have a problem with those outside the mould? Shizuo reached up, smoothing her fingers over her son's tentacles. He caught her fingers with the tip and snuggled against her hair.
Slowly her son wrapped around her forearm and she gently set him down on the counter, where he reluctantly detached. Shizuo smiled kissing the top of his head. Psyche flailed his tentacles.
"Mama." She heard his happiness.
Shizuo straightened.
"See harmless." She pressed. "This is Psyche, not for sale. But we have other sea creatures in need of homes."
Her son babbled something she could hear, but couldn't translate. Gibberish she'd assumed. But he did it around sea creatures and they seemed to respond.
"I see." The human man finally spoke, still eyeing Psyche as if the little octopus would leap for his face. "What do you have?"
Shizuo beamed and pressed. "Depends on what you're looking for and how much space you have. This is a rescue centre, so none of them can return to the ocean."
"I have a lot of space."
Shizuo nodded. "Good." She pressed. "I'll show you around."
"Psyche." She pressed. Her son stopped babbling at his name and clambered back up her arm and into the fun maze of her hair.
"We'll start small and work our way up." Shizuo pressed. Her son resumed his babbling.
She looked happy, Izaya mused. She looked free and completely different from the princess he'd bargained with. She didn't have a husband or a lover, but she did have a child. His child.
"Dada." The baby called reaching out a tentacle. "Dada."
Shizuo didn't seem to notice, didn't seem to understand the ancient sea language. Typical spoiled sea princess, but it was clear she didn't belong in the sea. Her father would kill her or imprison her and he'd be next.
There was only one way for his kind to have a baby and that was through a black pearl and a sacrifice. It hadn't been an accident. The princess had sought him out with the intention of having his child. There was no way to reverse the spell now. He couldn't give her back her voice or her scales and she wouldn't be able to have another child.
Izaya watched as she moved around, happy, with a bounce in her step. She didn't seem to care her bra was visible through a white shirt or that the skirt she wore showed a flash of panties. She wasn't even wearing socks or shoes.
"This is Sebastian." A computerised female voice said. "He lost a claw getting caught by a fishing boat."
Izaya eyed the lobster. Humans would've tossed it in the nearest restaurant ready for eating. How did she not understand that? It scuttled back as it saw him.
"It looks like he's feeling shy today."
"Dada, dada!" His son waved getting his attention. "Where dada been?"
He had a son.
Shizuo loved him.
This was not what he expected.
The human customer was quiet. It felt like she was wasting her time, but she continued through anyway. Her son pulled at her hair, the rescues backed away and her son was babbling again. Except the human was babbling back. Shizuo smiled at how sweet that was, but it wasn't until the first shark cowering and backing away that things clicked.
Shizuo stopped walking and turned. She didn't get far, her son's tentacles curled around the man's wrist, slowly moving from her to him.
Shizuo lifted her phone and had to type. "Sea witch."
"Shizu-chan."
Shizuo's shoulders slumped. He knew. Izaya knew. Shizuo typed. "I don't want to go back."
Psyche hovered stretched between them, then his tentacles left her shoulder and her son went to his father. "You can't." Izaya said. "Your interference made the spell permanent."
Shizuo had a feeling that was the case. She'd never see her father again. "Worth it." She typed.
It wasn't kidnapping per se. He was the owner of her heart. Izaya hadn't realised he'd had it but now that he knew, he couldn't let her go. Besides Shizuo wouldn't allow their child to go anywhere without them.
So he took them both back to his palace, making sure Shizuo could breath and regulate her body temperature underwater. Once they were settled in, Izaya summoned the king, alone. They'd already declared him innocent.
For the first time ever, Izaya found he was nervous, fidgeting in his throne. The king was no one to mess around with. The meeting could go very badly.
Within the hour the king entered his palace. "What is this about sea witch?"
"I owe you an apology." Izaya started. "Your daughter was foolish and I as well for not seeing through her schemes."
The king tensed. "You know where she is."
"I do." Izaya sighed. "Two years ago she came to bargain. She wanted freedom to walk on land and a heart."
The king groaned. "She's on land? With the humans?"
"She opened a rescue centre for ocean creatures." Izaya reported.
"Bring her back." The king demanded. "Reverse the spell."
Izaya pinched the bridge of his nose. "When your daughter bargained with me, she was holding a black pearl. A fact I only just recently found out."
The king froze, face slack. "She loves you."
Izaya eyed the archway leading to the closest bedroom. He wanted them within reaching distance. "You have a grandson. He'll be the only grandchild you have from her."
"I know how the black pearls work." The king snapped. "Where is she?"
"I brought them here." Izaya confessed. "As long as you don't mean them any harm, I can take you to them."
"Please."
Izaya rose and moved down the dais and through the arch. The king followed. In the first room, Shizuo and their son slept curled up with one another and smiling. Izaya stepped back and let the king inside.
"My daughter." The king whispered. "You will marry her, sea witch."
"Yes." Izaya agreed.
Shizuo woke up and shrank back, her arms protectively around her son. His tentacles wrapped around her arms. "Father..."
"Shizuo, my daughter." The king smiled. Shizuo launched out of bed and into his arms. Her son quickly detached and latched onto Izaya.
"Daddy!" She'd missed him. She'd missed him so much.
"You will marry your sea witch." Her father spoke.
Shizuo nodded. "Yes father. Um, this is your grandson ,Psyche."
"So I see." Her father eyed her child. "Hello little one."
"Grandpa." Her son reached out a tentacle before wrapping around the king.
"Look at you." The king breathed.
Shizuo smiled and then frowned. "How am I talking?"
"I can't give you your voice back, but I can spell the air around you to translate your vocal vibrations." Izaya said. "You can only speak if you're inside the palace."
"A good thing she'll be living with you then." Her father declared. "I'll visit, frequently."
Shizuo smiled. "Yes father."
They got married at his palace, otherwise Shizuo wouldn't be able to speak her vows. Their son was happy with his grandfather, and the king doted on him. It was strange given how everyone had feared and despised him. The king's attitude towards him had done a 180, but that was probably because of the baby, the fact it was Shizuo that had planned everything, and because he'd brought the assassins and schemers against the kingdom to light.
They had the palace to themselves, thanks to the king babysitting and the servants making themselves scarce. But first there was an issue to resolve. His bride had doubts. Not about him. He knew she loved him, or else they'd never of had a child together. No, he could tell she doubted that he felt the same. She felt guilty about blind siding him.
Izaya took her to bed. There were some benefits to a humanoid body and he quite enjoyed hers. "Don't hide from me, Shizu-chan."
Izaya watched as she relaxed, small circle welts all over her shoulders where their son had moved around. Bigger welts, where his own suckers pressed. Izaya used his tentacles to open her up. Her legs, her sensitive places. She looked happy but doubt still lingered in her eyes.
"Shizu-chan." Izaya opened his hand and revealed the black pearl inside. It was a wedding present, one of many from the king. This one, he'd requested. The only thing that could overwrite a black pearl was another one. They would have another child but then he'd be infertile and she would be barren.
His bride gasped. "Oh."
Izaya sank into her, his cock clenched tight in Shizuo's heat. Her hand covered his, holding the pearl in between them.
Nine months later their second and final child was born.
Shizuo greeted her father with a hug, before two growing children rushed past her and latched onto their grandfather. Psyche and Delic. Her miracle sons, born of love. "Thank you for babysitting." Shizuo smiled.
"No problem. You two have fun." The king beamed lifting the pair into his arms. "Be careful of humans."
Shizuo nodded. "Yes father."
The king left looking very much doting grandfather. "Ready to go?" She asked her husband.
"You know, you could just bring them here." Izaya suggested. "No one will harm them in the palace."
"I know. But it feels like co-existence. Besides it took the shark months to get used to you."
"Very well." Izaya agreed taking her hand. "But you're not wearing anything short or revealing again."
Shizuo grinned. "I know. Only in the bedroom or for your eyes."
"Remember that." Izaya kissed her and whisked them to the surface.
