Say my name
"Say my name and we'll stop. Until then, the deal with your mother stands and you are mine."
The first words from his shadow. The creature that was both saviour and bane of his family. His mother had made the family rise from commoner to nobility. Her skills earned her a marriage with a prince and so they became royalty.
Shizuo was the first born and the crown prince. He was also of age. His mother had warned him. He'd thought it a story. But it was true. The creature walked the shadows, there one moment and gone the next.
His fingers walked up Shizuo's chest, slim fingers slipping through his shirt to touch bare skin. The man spoke, making him think of melted chocolate. Shizuo submitted, letting the creature touch him, his reflection clear in the vanity.
The table shook as he was taken. The first of many times. Throughout the year the figure would appear, utter the same words and then take him again. He never reported what happened to his mother, but he knew she was combing the kingdom for the creature's name.
Two years since their strange relationship had begun, Shizuo was called into his mother. She gave him a name.
The same day, Shizuo rode out to the witch's hut and had his tongue cut out and cauterised. From that day on, he was mute. He fed his mother the potion he'd gotten from the witch. She had amnesia and was sent away to recuperate, making Shizuo temporarily king.
Shizuo didn't say a word, holding onto the back of the throne as the creature pushed fingers into him. He gasped and made basic sounds but he would never say the creature's name.
Red eyes gleamed as the shadows took him. The figure paused mid kiss. "Open your mouth."
So he did.
"You know my name."
Shizuo looked away.
"You cut out your tongue. Do you not wish for me to stop?"
In response Shizuo took off the crown and placed it on the creature's head.
"So be it."
Izaya became king. He'd elevated a commoner to royalty and had been promised her first born. He'd given her an out and that was if she or her child said his name. The first born was a son and he'd played with him. Now Izaya was king and the son was mute. The son was a fool.
The woman had amnesia. Izaya arranged her suicide. He kept the son at his feet, but that was where Shizuo seemed content to stay.
Shizuo said nothing as he sat by Izaya's feet like a dog. Izaya dressed him in the garb of a dancer or a whore. Fitting when the son spent most of his time sucking Izaya's cock or riding it.
Izaya threw parties to keep those he needed on side happy. They called him the shadow king but he did hear guesses of his name. He also heard someone speak to Shizuo.
"Is it true you cut your tongue out because you know the king's name? Surely you can write it out for me?"
Izaya followed Shizuo the next day to a witch's hut where he came out missing his dominant hand.
Izaya had power, he had loyalty but that came at a price. There was a magician in his court. "I see you can't speak." The magician spoke to Shizuo. "I see you can't write now either, but I have a spell to read minds. You-"
Crack. Izaya heard the crack of a pill like a thunder clap. His head snapped down seeing Shizuo was the cause. Poison. Blood trickled from Shizuo's mouth and Izaya caught him before he hit the floor, dead. The son was truly a fool.
Mikado caught a lost soul. A mortal foolish with loyalty to a fault. A mortal dead before their time. The soul's name was Shizuo. Ironic given that the mortal had died to protect a name.
Mikado coveted the soul, not passing it on like he usually would. Shizuo was shiny, full of love and loyalty, willing to do anything for the one he chose. Mikado wanted that for himself. So he stuck the soul in another body, one that would grow the way he raised him. One that would show the same loyalty to him.
Shizuo was eighteen when he left the house. His benefactor had finally given him free reign and all he wanted to do was see the royal parade, to get a glimpse of the king of shadows.
Shizuo ran, pushing his way through the crowd, watching the parade. There was some pushing and shoving around him, but for the most part Shizuo was a rock in a flowing river.
He could feel something inside him, his heart racing. Sure enough the carriage rode by and the king was visible in the window. Shizuo waved a hand but froze feeling those red eyes on him. He knew the king's name. He could feel it engraved on his soul.
Shizuo pushed back through the crowd and ran away from the parade, away from the king.
Izaya gave a small wave to his humans, his eyes meeting a young man shrouded in a demonic aura. Izaya frowned as the human froze and then turned and ran, away from the parade, away from him. Izaya tagged his shadow and continued on.
Shizuo trembled locking the doors and bolting down the windows. He knew the king's name. He was a danger to the king. Shizuo would stay hidden in the house until Mikado returned. Maybe his benefactor had a way to erase his memory.
Shizuo shrank back as shadows swirled and rose. The king was in his home. Shizuo bowed but didn't say a word. "You ran from me. What's your name?"
Shizuo bit his lip. "What's your name?"
"...Shizuo, my king."
The creature tilted its head. "Why did you run?"
Shizuo told the truth. "I don't know how, but I know your name. You can kill me."
"Say it." The king demanded stepping into his space.
Shizuo shook his head and bit his lip. If he could he'd bite off his tongue. "No, my king."
"Say my name, Shizu-chan."
Shizuo refused. He didn't say it as the king touched him, he didn't say it as he was fucked on the bed. "Kill me." He said softly. That seemed to anger the creature so he fell silent again.
"Say my name." The king kissed him. "Say it, Shizu-chan."
"...Izaya."
Everything stopped.
"Nothing happened?" Shizuo frowned.
Izaya kissed him again entangling their tongues. Shizuo moaned wanting to touch, wanting to be touched. He found the bed and worked on getting his clothes off. "Izaya." He murmured as the king covered him.
Shizuo cried out at the intrusion. Izaya thrusting into his body.
"Say my name." Izaya commanded.
Shizuo did. Over and over again.
"Shizuo, I'm back." Shizuo sat up and went to move but Izaya was wrapped around him and wasn't going anywhere.
His benefactor stepped into the room and sighed. "So you chose him." Mikado sighed. "Alright. But you should know, I can't save your soul again. Should you die prematurely, your soul will shatter." Mikado shrugged. "I found a new lost soul, so when you're ready come and greet your new brother."
"Yes, Mikado-sama." Shizuo nodded and smiled. His benefactor sighed and shook his head leaving the room.
"You have a kingdom to run, my king." Shizuo said wiggling to get free.
"My name, Shizu-chan."
"Izaya." Shizuo murmured turning to kiss where he could reach. Izaya's hand slipped between his legs, fisting his cock. "Izaya."
Izaya eased between his cheeks, kissing Shizuo's neck. Shizuo cried out, already sore. "Izaya." He gave a pained moan.
"Mine." The king breathed. "All mine."
"Yes, Izaya."
