Chapter 11-Round 3/The "ultimate" spell…snicker
"So we're about to start round three," I yawned, "You're facing the new guy William Vermilion right?"
"Why yes I am," Norvain cheered, "and I shall emerge victorious!"
"I doubt it," I muttered under my breath.
"What was that?" He hissed at me.
"I said sure…you're going to win no doubt about it," I lied.
"Then prove it," Norvain snickered, "Bet 30 gold on me winning."
"Fine," I sighed motioning one of the ring masters over, "30 gold on Norvain Vask winning the fight."
"As you wish sir," the man stated with a bow taking the gold and handing me a slip of paper, "Anything else sir?"
"Not at the moment," I stated turning back to the arena, "Are you happy now?"
"Very happy," Norvain laughed happily as he walked down towards the arena.
"Ring Master," I stated with a smile, "3 grand on William Vermillion Winning the match."
"Sir this counteracts your last bid…are you sure you wish this?" the ring master asked confused.
"Yes I'm sure," I barked at the man as he took the bag of gold and handed me my ticket looking slightly confused.
"Why did you bet against him…I thought he was your friend?" Xaidra asked confused.
"Whenever he's under a severe amount of stress he has a habit of screwing up even the simplest things," I sighed with a slight grin, "It wouldn't be the first time he's screwed up something overly simple."
"How could he possibly screw this up?" Xaidra inquired confused.
"Oh just wait and see," I chuckled, "He'll find a way."
We both turned to see Norvain emerge into the arena to the cheering of the crowd…William entered wearing plate armor and wielding a strangely designed looking longsword. I don't recognize that weapon…strange. The gong sounded and William charged at Norvain who simply tossed his Chakram and launched a shard of ice which William simply cut in half but this distraction allowed Norvain to move to flank his opponent. William may have been strong but he was slow so he couldn't turn to face Norvain and as such was struck by Norvain's attack…which glanced harmlessly off of his thick armor and allowed William to counterattack but Norvain rolled beneath the horizontal swing while grabbing his chakrams from the air as they flew by. As Norvain leapt to his feet he once again launched his ferocious attack and once again it bounced harmlessly off his armor. Norvain scowled as he once again caught his weapons. William ran at Norvain who expected a swing but was instead greeted with an armored shoulder slam which knocked him off his feet but before William could capitalize on his advantage Norvain used his superior agility to remove himself from William's attack range and followed up by firing a wave of ice at William who slashed his way through the attack. Norvain sprinted at William and moved to tackle him…and in a rather cartoonish way hit him like he was a brick wall.
"And that's the stupid crap that causes him to lose a battle," I sighed smiling.
"How did he even think that would work?" Xaidra asked surprised.
"Who the hell knows," I sighed, "I doubt he even thinks these things through anymore."
William however did not capitalize on Norvain's stupidity as it caught him completely off guard and allowed Norvain to once again put distance between the two of him. He then whipped his chakrams which proceeded to ricochet of the walls preventing William from advancing.
"Now I'll show you the power of the ultimate spell!" Norvain yelled raising his hand to the air as a pulsating sphere of energy rose into the air, "You'll face the might of the Tetra spell"
The further the orb rose into the air the larger it became…and still William couldn't move to attack because whenever he attempted to move one of the chakrams would stop him.
"It looks like you're wrong," Xaidra snickered, "Looks like Norvain's going to win."
"1…" I counted.
"Huh?" Xaidra stated turning towards me.
"…2…"
"Why are you counting?"
"…3,"
As I finished counting a chakram slammed into its master's head and knocking him off balance. William froze as the remaining chakram that had prevented him from fleeing hit the wall and imbedded itself there. When Norvain recovered he looked upwards as his spell dropped like a stone…right on top of him. The explosion rocked the arena as a light blinded all of us who were watching the match and before I could recover I heard a thud as someone landed nearby me. As I regained my sight I turned to my left to see Norvain lying there as his hair stood on end and crackled with electricity, his clothing smoldered, frost clung to his legs, and he was covered with dirt…this was all from the effect of the spell known as Tetra which combined the four basic elements into one spell which could strike with deadly proficiency…but it takes a severe amount of concentration or otherwise the spell would backfire with deadly consequences…as Norvain had just demonstrated.
"So what was that about you winning?" I inquired of my fallen companion.
"Shut up," he groaned as he sat up, "I had him right where I wanted him."
"Then you screwed up by going overly fancy instead of whittling away at him," I smiled as the ring master came to me and dropped of my winnings near me.
"You bet against me!?" Norvain asked shocked, "Why would you do that!?"
"Because you always lose by going overboard against enemies you think are weaker than yourself," I answered pouring my winnings into my magical money pouch.
"I…I hate it when your right," he groused as the crowd cheered for William's victory over my friend.
I stood up and applauded his determination…he was skilled true but he lacked the hard won experience only obtained by years of fighting…experience I obtained during my years as a mercenary.
"Now we've our four semi-finalists," the announcer shouted, "Returning Champion Eddoe Yonthanx, Sai, Aden, and William Vermillion…normally the battles would be as follows Eddoe V.S. Aden and William V.S. Sai but to give rookies a chance this year we're flipping the opponents…Eddoe will face William and Sai will face Aden."
"Shit," I cursed, "I was preparing to face a strong magician not a sword fighter."
"It's really that big of a deal?" Xaidra asked.
"Yes," Norvain answered, "A warrior must always prepare for battle and to switch the order like they did has wasted the time Eddoe spent on preparing to face Aden."
I nodded as I stood up drawing my katana…I would need to sharpen the edge so I could cleave through William's plate armor…my magic would give me a superior advantage as no matter how thick his armor he would not be able to stop my flames. So what it really came down to was could the resolute blade stop my devouring flames?
Here Ends chapter 11…I'm sorry for the long delay but my laptop kept crashing on me so I gave it to one of my family members whose really good with computers to look at…good news is he got it fixed…bad news is I lost entire portions of information I've collected (Timeline for WKC: 1 & 2, Character Bios, ect) so some parts of my stories might be a little off but bear with me and I should be able to get things back on track…I'm sorry about how short this chapter is but I felt I better get this next chapter out as quickly as I could…I felt I've been to complacent lately (Basically I've beaten several extremely long and difficult games while also being confounded by several others…damn you Star Ocean: A Last Hope…damn your wonderful story line but near impossible final boss fight…The boss fight is broken up into two segments…it took me nearly three hours to beat the first segment and 15 seconds to be eradicated on the second one) I thank you for your time and please review this story or others (Seriously would someone please review one of these three stories…Yu-gi-oh GX: Tides of Chaos, Inheritance Cycle: Imperial Heroes, or Soul Eater: Strength of the cycle…Please for the love of all that is good in this world review…thank you for your time)
