Chapter 2
The Hive
Alice began to investigate what Spence was up to with Lisa Broward. She combed through his emails, sorted through his files, and read through all the reports she had written over the last three months. She soon discovered that Spence had been in contact with Lisa quite frequently and it seemed he was helping her in some way. Alice decided to take a deeper look into Lisa's life and see what it was that Spence was doing for her. She spoke to some of Lisa's friends and family, who told her about how she had been struggling financially for the past few years after losing her job at a local company. It seemed as if Spence was giving her money to help get by, but there seemed to be more going on than just money.
Alice dug around even more and eventually uncovered evidence that indicated that Spence had been helping Lisa find a way to break into the Umbrella Corporation offices without detection. He had provided her with codes and passwords that allowed her access to the secure offices. Alice knew that she had to find a way to follow Lisa when she gets to the mansion with the rest of the staff so she could get to the underground train station beneath the mansion without been detected by Lisa and get on the train with every other Umbrella Corp. employees all the way into the Hive lab to keep an eye on Lisa. She formulated a plan, one where she had to be smart and careful in order not to get spotted by any of Umbrella's security personnel or by Lisa herself.
Alice took it upon herself to locate a long blonde wig that night and a black Umbrella Corporation combat uniform where not a single bit of her skin was left bare. Also, she decided to put on over her uniform a long white lab coat to hide her uniform. Alice waited outside the mansion that night and carefully watched as they came in their cars and park in the grounds. As they soon started to get out of their cars, she followed at a safe distance behind them, making sure that no one noticed her presence before walking across a nearby field towards the mansion grounds.
Once past the entrance gates Alice quickly made her way around back and hid behind some white pillars near one of side entrances so she could watch her to get inside the building and down into the underground train station beneath the mansion. Alice was determined to follow Lisa and find out what she was up to. She made her way to the mansion where Spence's contact had told her for when Lisa would be heading, and sure enough she spotted Lisa's figure in the distance, walking towards the entrance with a group of other Umbrella Corporation employees. Alice quickly joined them and managed to get into the building unnoticed by any of them.
Once inside, Alice followed closely behind as they navigated their way through the hallways until finally they reached a mirror door in the middle of one room that led down into an underground train station. In no time, there it was the train at the end of the stairs. Alice watched from a safe distance as everyone boarded a train that looked like it hadn't been used for years.
Alice waited until everyone else had boarded before making her move, sliding quietly onto one of the empty carriages and finding a spot to hide in the far corner. She could hear Lisa's voice from up ahead and knew that she was one of the last people to board, clearly her plan had worked as there was no indication that any had spotted her boarding.
Soon enough, they were all moving through dark passage ways with strange patterns on them until eventually after what felt like hours, Alice heard loud noise coming non-stop outside along with bright light before realizing they had arrived at their destination; The Hive laboratory. Alice followed Lisa and the members of Umbrella Corp. as they stepped out of the train carriages and marveled at the vastness of their location, all beneath layers levels underground. It was a stark reminder to Alice that this far down places like these weren't built with her or anyone on her side in mind but were meant to serve corporate interests alone. The moment felt ominous, like something dangerous lurked within those walls; it seemed hopeless to even consider taking on such an industrial giant when you had so little resources but yet here she was following them into the belly of beast without hesitation knowing only too well what would happen if she failed.
Alice stepped out of the Elevator, everything changed; The lab felt alive with activity everywhere around here than anywhere else machines were lit up brightly every corner while scientists all roamed back and forth bustling like worker ants completing tasks they had been assigned on orders by Umbrella Corp's supervisors without fail or question apparently, although not noticing this newcomer within their midst due too how focused they seemed on getting done what needed prepared for next day delivery of whatever item or sample came into view next.
Once down in the lower levels, Alice carefully watched and followed behind while they went through various doors with different code numbers until finally stopped at one specific entrance where no one but Lisa had access too. Inside been filled with vast amount of computers monitors and strange prehistoric looking artifacts under glass boxes on each side of them, clearly it wasn't just any room; There stood right before her eyes -the gateway to ultimate chaos!
Alice felt almost invisible walking through these places unnoticed till eventually finding herself right outside Spencer's old office along side many other rooms such himself which more likely contained different kinds of experiments going done under surveillance twenty four hours per day given everyone present working straight twelve hour days if not longer according recent memos posted across broken computer screens left hovering over half empty laboratory tables still filled each minute detail. Then suddenly behind closed door off hallway caught some sort faint familiar sound coming from room near end strangely enough couldn't quite recognized cause faintly heard drawing ever closer confirm whether real or imagination only can determined once cross threshold beyond pitch black hallways containing horrors unknown lies.
Lisa got busy setting up things for whatever was about to take place, meticulously typing commands into several consoles scattered around as lights flash from multiple screens all across walls creating an eerie sensation throughout the laboratory causing everyone there shivers going down their spines like never before experienced by anyone other than those who have died once already more then enough times . Afterward , suddenly out of nowhere came an urgent voice voice from within hallways saying "alert! Alert!" repeatedly warning them something was wrong; somehow someone or something had managed bypassing security measures set by Umbrella Corporation, activating the Red Queen! At first thought not panicked much since many false alarms happen quite often but soon realize alarm sounded melodic sweetly like female's soft singing off-key notes composed tune unlike typical harsh blaring tones usually heard when such sensor detects trespasser … cause indeed the same woman appearing in the doorway now was none other than a red hologram of Alice herself in her black Umbrella combat outfit. Before it dissapeared and the lights went off for a reboot.
Alice stepped inside the lab room right behind Lisa. Lisa had gasped. "Marcus!" She exclaimed, her voice echoing off the walls. Her surprise only increased when she saw him hunched over his workbench, tweaking some plastic tubes that led to the Progenitor Virus and some Leeches in a glass cage. Alice wasn't surprise at all that her father had been still working at this hour, but that Lisa's planned to meet with him? Why? Her father had been loyal to Umbrella ever since she was little.
Alice's father glanced up at them, a quiet fury in his eyes. "Alicia... Lisa," he muttered. "I had hoped you two would never come here. I've been following you throught the security cameras."
Alice stepped forward, her fists balled at her sides. "What is the meaning of this?" She demanded. Lisa turned around and saw the head of security angrily removing her disguise.
Marcus sighed, looking away from them. "I'll take them down," he confessed, pointing to the DNA tubes he'd been working on. "Spence and Lisa have agreed to help me. Please, daughter. You don't know what is at stake here... what they plan to do."
"You were the one in charge of the new Nemesis program. Remember our recent subject from Raccon City, Matt Addison? Umbrella can't lose you now." Alice revoked.
Anger surged through Lisa as all of her suspicions were confirmed. How could he be helping those scumbags? What about her brother Matt? Didn't Marcus care about him? He was part of the team that took him?
Without warning, she whipped out a gun from her purse and shot him without remorse. The sound of the gunshot echoed throughout the room like thunder. By the end of it he had dropped from his chair to the corner of the desk with so many holes in his chest that there was no doubt he was dead.
Lisa ran to Marcu's work desk searching for something. Alice screamed in horror, rushing towards her father's lifeless body too late. Rage and grief overwhelmed her as she turned on Lisa, blood dripping from her fists as she pummeled her mercilessly until finally Lisa dropped dead to the ground with the T-Virus vial still clutched in her hand– releasing its contents into the Hive and dooming everyone inside it.
Alice collapsed beside Lisa's corpse, sobbing until the Red Queen released the counter gas that sent everyone into a deep sleep inside the Hive.
Alice awoke with a splitting headache, her mind foggy as she tried to remember what happened. Slowly the memories of Lisa and her mission in the Hive flooded back and all trace of amnesia faded away. The Umbrella Corporation was on its way to shut down the Hive by sending in their sanitation team when Alice remembered that it was still not too late; if she could just destroy it before they arrived then no one else would ever enter again– No more T-Virus victims or mindless corpses making up an army for Umbrella's end goal. She had been on the Umbrella board with her father many times before and she had no intention on living in that world they invision. Dr. Alexander Roland Isaacs had something else coming for him. She hoped to execute her plan later on after Umbrella's plan was put into action but this serve her all the same.
Lisa looked up at her through battered and swollen eyes.
"What... happened to me?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.
Alice turned around and sneered down at Lisa, enjoying the power she suddenly held over her enemy. "You don't remember? I guess that gas defense system of the Red Queen did more damage than expected," she said mockingly, tears still down her cheeks.
"Gas?" Lisa asked, "What are you-"
"You killed my father." Alice said.
Lisa quickly turn to grab the gun from the floor and pointed at Alice.
Alice smiled wickedly as if she knew something Lisa didn't.
"I'm sorry," Lisa pulled the triggered.
The echo never came.
"Looking for this?" Alice asked showing her the bullet magazine.
Then everything seemed to happen in slow motion; Lisa lunged forward with a powerful uppercut but it never connected because Alice blocked it effortlessly with her hand crushing Lisa's own then countered with a swift kick to the stomach that sent Lisa smashing into the wall of the lab.
Lisa slumped to the ground as Alice charged towards her, connecting one last merciless blow to Lisa's skull. Blood splattered against the walls and floor as Lisa let out a silent gasp before going still.
Alice stepped back, admiring her work and the new power coursing through her veins.
"Time to blow up this place alongside the higher-ups of Umbrella," she thought to herself.
Gathering her new strength, Alice stumbled a bit-maybe some side effects - and out into the darkness of the room searching for a way out – but everywhere around her were barriers preventing escape until finally at the very end of the room there at last seemed salvation: A hatch open leading outside the lab. Everything was dark. There were no lights in the lab anymore. The Hive was shut down. Coming closer though filled Alice's head with dread as although alive none inside had yet been freed due to some unseen force keeping them trapped within this dwelling deep beneath Raccoon City… the Red Queen.
