Prologue
An old woman paced back and forth in front of the shrine, unaware of the young girls that stood by her. Once in a while, one of them would pluck up the courage to glance at her—to cast another uneasy glance—only to look down again.
Suddenly, the old woman straightened, causing the three girls to jump. She turned her eye toward their direction with mysterious determination.
"Misty, Dawn, Leaf…"
The three girls swallowed, expecting the worst of the worst.
"Yes, My Lady?"
Lady Kameko heaved out a sigh. "What we have feared has finally come. The prophecy has been told."
"See you later, May!"
Fifteen-year-old May Maple grinned and waved as her friend ran off into the distance. With all the drama that she was enduring in her high school days, she was grateful that she actually had Riley to support her.
With a small smile, May spun around and did what she usually did: talk to herself.
"Okay, May. Let's go home, eat, and do homewor—ack!"
Without warning, a cat the color of goldenrods sprang up, swiped the bandana from her head, and dashed away with it.
"Hey!" she exclaimed, still completely dumbfounded. "Come back!"
With her pre-planned schedule momentarily forgotten, May sprinted after the feline, not knowing that she was running towards the trap of time…
