X-Men: An Unnatural Omega Volume 2
Chapter 13: The New Law, The Dilemma and A Vision of Destiny
…
Xavier, Magneto, Emma Frost, and Jean Grey stood before the inhabitants of Krakoa, their faces somber as they prepared to reveal the truth. The mutants gathered before them were curious, some worried, others confused. They had all heard rumors about something happening in the council chambers, and they knew it must have been serious.
Xavier stepped forward, his voice steady as he addressed the crowd. "My fellow mutants, we come before you today to share some difficult news. We have learned that the process of resurrection we have been using is not what we thought it was."
The crowd murmured in confusion and concern, and Xavier continued. "We have come to realize that what we are bringing back are not our loved ones, but rather, clones of them. These clones have their memories and personalities, but they are not the same souls that once inhabited those bodies."
Magneto stepped forward, his voice stern. "We understand the gravity of this revelation, and we believe it is our responsibility to act accordingly. We have discussed and deliberated on this matter, and we have decided to outlaw the process of resurrection on Krakoa."
There was a stunned silence as the mutants processed the information. Some looked angry, while others appeared relieved. Emma Frost stepped forward, her voice calm but firm.
"We understand that this news may be difficult for some of you, but we believe it is the right decision. We have a responsibility to act with integrity and honesty, and we cannot continue to use this power when we know that it is not what we believed it to be."
Jean Grey, who had remained quiet until now, spoke up. "We understand that this will be a difficult transition, and we are here to offer support and guidance. We must learn to accept death as a natural part of life, and find new ways to honor the memories of those we have lost."
The mutants listened quietly, their expressions contemplative. This was a significant moment in their history, and they knew that the repercussions of this decision would be felt for years to come.
Hope Summers listened intently as Xavier, Magneto, Emma Frost, and Jean Grey explained the truth about resurrection. As they finished, Hope spoke up, "What about the souls of our past selves? Are they gone forever?"
Mistress Death's earlier revelation echoed in the minds of the council members, and Xavier responded, "Yes, Hope. The souls of our past selves are gone with every resurrection."
Hope's face fell as she considered the implications of this. "What have we been doing? Playing god with the very essence of our being?"
Magneto spoke up, "We were trying to protect ourselves, our people. We didn't know the full extent of what we were doing."
As they finished explaining, a hush fell over the crowd. Hope Summers raised her hand and asked, "What about the souls of our past selves?"
Mistress Death's words echoed in their minds, and they knew the answer. "They passed on with every resurrection," Xavier replied, his voice heavy with regret.
For a moment there was a shocked silence….
Then suddenly, a mutant stood up from the crowd, his eyes blazing with anger. "You're all frauds!" he shouted. "My sister was supposed to be brought back, and now you tell me it was all a lie?"
Another mutant chimed in, and soon multiple voices were raised in anger and frustration. Some stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind them.
Xavier, Magneto, Emma Frost, and Jean Grey looked around at the mutants who remained, feeling the weight of their disappointment and betrayal. They had hoped to ease the pain of death and loss, but instead, they had only added to the suffering.
As they left the room, the four mutants exchanged glances, realizing the magnitude of their mistake. They had played with forces beyond their understanding, and the consequences were dire. They knew that they had to make it right, to find a way to make amends for what they had done. The future of mutantkind depended on it.
…
Outside the room, Laura and Logan from the world where the Frost Parasite originated stood in silence, listening to the conversation. They exchanged a knowing glance and silently walked away, feeling grateful that they had been spared from the consequences of resurrection in their world.
…
As the news of the truth about resurrection spreads throughout the island, Apocalypse and the mutant inhabitants of Arrako watch in silence, contemplating the implications of this revelation. Apocalypse, who had never been a believer in resurrection, now has his doubts confirmed.
"It seems our suspicions were correct," he says quietly to the other members of the council. "Resurrection was never true rebirth, only a cheap imitation of life. And now we see the consequences of playing with the natural order of things."
The other mutants nod in agreement, the weight of their actions heavy on their minds. They had used resurrection as a tool for their own benefit, without fully understanding the consequences.
Apocalypse turns to Xavier and Magneto, his eyes piercing.
"You have played with forces beyond your understanding, and now you see the true cost of your actions," he says, his voice firm. "It is time to reconsider the use of resurrection, and to find another way forward."
Xavier and Magneto nod in agreement, knowing that they have a responsibility to the mutants they lead. They realize that they must find a new way to navigate the challenges ahead, one that doesn't involve the manipulation of life and death.
As the council members continue to contemplate their next steps, the mutant inhabitants of Arrako begin to voice their concerns and anger. Some demand answers and accountability, while others storm out in frustration and regret.
The weight of their past actions hangs heavily on the mutants of Krakoa, and they know that they must find a way to move forward, one that is grounded in truth, honesty, and the preservation of life in all its forms.
…
Apocalypse had never put his faith in the power of resurrection. As he listened to the revelations about the true nature of the process, he remained silent, nodding in agreement. He knew that death was a natural part of life, and that it was not meant to be cheated.
However, as he watched the council shut down the resurrection pools, he noticed a change in the air. The arrival of Derreck had brought something new and hopeful to the island, a sense of optimism that was rare in their world. Apocalypse couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope himself, that maybe, just maybe, there was still a chance for them all.
Meanwhile, Laura and Derreck stood together, watching as the resurrection pools were shut down. They knew that they had made a promise to bring back many of the mutants' loved ones, but the cost was too high. Laura leaned her head against Derreck's chest, feeling at peace knowing that he loved her and that they were in this together.
They knew that their journey was far from over, and that there were still challenges ahead, but for now, they took comfort in the knowledge that they were doing what was right for the future of their people.
…
Hope took a long sip of her drink and closed her eyes, letting the music wash over her. She had been trying to push away the thoughts of her past selves and what had happened to them, but it seemed like an impossible task. The truth about resurrection had hit her hard, and she wasn't sure how to move forward.
As she opened her eyes, she noticed that her friends were looking at her with concern. She forced a smile and raised her glass.
"Cheers to new beginnings, right?" she said, trying to sound cheerful.
Her friends clinked their glasses together, but the mood was still somber. Hope knew that they were all struggling with the same feelings of loss and uncertainty.
Suddenly, a voice from behind her interrupted her thoughts. She turned around to see Apocalypse, his piercing blue eyes fixed on her.
"May I join you?" he asked, gesturing to the empty seat next to her.
Hope hesitated for a moment before nodding her head. Apocalypse took a seat and ordered a drink, his attention still on her.
"I heard about the council's decision to shut down the resurrection pools," he said, his voice low. "It's a brave move, but the right one."
Hope nodded, grateful for the support. They sat in silence for a few moments, listening to the music and sipping their drinks.
"I've always believed that death is a natural part of life," Apocalypse said, breaking the silence. "Resurrection was never something I was comfortable with. It goes against the natural order of things."
Hope looked at him, surprised. She had always thought of Apocalypse as a ruthless tyrant, obsessed with power and control. But in that moment, she saw a different side of him.
"Thank you for your words," she said, smiling softly.
Apocalypse nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
"You're stronger than you know, Hope Summers," he said, his voice kind. "You'll get through this."
With that, he finished his drink and stood up, giving her a small nod before walking away. Hope watched him go, feeling a sense of gratitude and respect towards the ancient mutant.
Logan listened as the other Laura and Logan told him about their world and how Wade Wilson was a big help in the fight against the Frost parasites. They explained that he also had a healing factor and put up a good fight the last time they saw him.
Logan felt a pang of sadness at the mention of Wade's name. Despite their differences, he had grown to respect the mercenary and even consider him a friend. He had always known that Wade was resourceful, but the fact that he was still alive in their world gave him a glimmer of hope.
The other Logan and Laura continued to talk, reminiscing about their world and the battles they had fought. Logan listened intently, feeling a sense of connection to these versions of himself and his daughter. Despite their different paths, they shared a bond as mutants and as warriors fighting for a greater cause.
As they finished speaking, Logan took a deep breath and thanked them for sharing their story. He knew that their worlds were different, but he couldn't help but wonder what their future held and how it would affect his own.
Logan, the other Logan, and the other Laura continued to talk about the differences in their worlds, reminiscing about the friends they've lost and the battles they've fought. As they spoke, they noticed their Laura and Derreck sitting at a nearby table, holding hands and gazing into each other's eyes.
"Looks like our Laura's doing alright," Logan remarked, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
The other Laura nodded, her expression softening. "Yeah, she's come a long way. It's good to see her happy."
The other Logan grunted in agreement, taking a sip of his beer. "Guess we all have, in our own way."
They fell into a comfortable silence, watching as their counterparts enjoyed each other's company. Despite the differences in their worlds, they all shared a common bond, forged through their experiences as mutants and warriors.
Logan leaned back in his chair, taking in the scene before him. For once, he felt at peace, content to simply watch and reflect on all that had happened.
"Maybe things aren't so bad after all," he said, his voice quiet but hopeful.
The other Laura and Logan both nodded, their eyes fixed on their counterparts. In that moment, they all felt a sense of unity and hope for the future, knowing that they would face whatever challenges came their way together.
Logan and the other Logan watched as Derreck reached into his pocket and pulled out a cookie, handing it to his pet rat, Mr. Rat. The small rodent let out a happy squeak as he munched on the treat, and Laura smiled at the sight.
"He's a good kid," Logan said, watching Derreck with admiration.
The other Logan nodded in agreement. "Yeah, he is. And Laura seems happy with him."
The two of them continued to watch as Derreck and Laura talked and laughed with each other, their bond evident in the way they looked at each other. Logan couldn't help but feel a sense of pride, knowing that he had played a small part in bringing them together.
"Looks like everything's gonna be alright," Logan said with a grin.
The other Logan chuckled. "Yeah, for once it does."
As they turned to walk away, Logan couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Despite all the trials and tribulations they had faced, they had managed to come out on the other side. And with Laura and Derreck's newfound happiness, he knew that they had done something right.
…
As Rogue, Cable, Gambit, and Kitty Pryde combed through Mr. Sinister's laboratory, they scoured every inch of the room in search of any clues that would lead them to his clones.
Kitty Pryde searched through files and drawers, while Gambit examined various tubes and vials, hoping to find something useful. Rogue and Cable, on the other hand, checked the computers and the lab's security system for any traces of Mr. Sinister's activities.
As they worked, Rogue couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. Mr. Sinister was a master of deception, and they had no way of knowing what he had hidden away or what secrets he had taken to his grave.
But they persevered, knowing that finding any information that could help them prevent another tragedy was worth the effort. Cable's cybernetic eye suddenly glowed as he detected a hidden compartment behind a bookshelf. He signaled to the others, and they quickly pulled the shelf away to reveal a hidden door.
Kitty Pryde phased through the door and discovered a hidden laboratory beyond it. The room was filled with dozens of clones, each in various stages of development.
Rogue and the others were horrified. Mr. Sinister's twisted experiments had reached a new level of depravity. As they looked around the room, Rogue noticed a computer screen that showed a live feed of the council's meeting room.
The feed showed Laura and Derreck sitting together, holding hands, and feeding a rat a cookie. Rogue's heart sank as she realized the true cost of their obsession with resurrection. She couldn't help but wonder what kind of world they were creating, and if it was worth the price they were paying.
As they continued to search the laboratory, they found evidence of Mr. Sinister's plans for the future. Rogue and the others knew they had to act fast to stop him before it was too late.
As they searched Mr. Sinister's lab, Rogue, Cable, Gambit, and Kitty Pride stumbled upon a list of countless timelines that Mr. Sinister had reset using the Maria clones. They stood in stunned silence as they watched the screen scroll on and on, each timeline representing a potential future that he had manipulated to suit his own twisted desires.
Cerebro beeped in the background, drawing their attention. "I have detected evidence of Maria clones in this facility," the AI reported.
The mutants exchanged a worried glance, realizing the implications of what they had discovered. The Maria clones were not just tools for Mr. Sinister's twisted experiments; they were also pawns in his schemes to manipulate the timelines.
"Looks like we've got a lot of work to do," Cable said, his voice grim.
Rogue nodded in agreement, her expression set in determination. "We'll find every last one of these clones and give them the life they deserve," she said, her voice firm.
Gambit put a hand on her shoulder, giving her a reassuring squeeze. "We'll get through this together," he said.
Kitty Pride stood quietly beside them, her mind racing with the implications of their discovery. They had uncovered a web of deceit and manipulation that stretched across countless timelines, and it was up to them to put an end to it.
as they notice this they hear cerebro say...i've just been notified that a mr sinister clone has made contact with tenebrous and they are currently in dealings with madness eternal and ...his eye would flicker...ERROR...ERROR...unable to quontify power level...ALERT... signiture is far greater than tenebrous' and Madness eternal...Error...!
Cerebro struggled to get words out...saying...subject is near a secret lab in a...instalation...ERROR...
Suddenly, Cerebro's voice cut off, and the screen flickered before going blank. Rogue, Cable, Gambit, and Kitty exchanged worried glances, unsure of what was happening.
"What's going on, Cerebro?" Rogue asked, her voice laced with concern.
There was a moment of silence before Cerebro spoke again, his voice strained.
"The subject is near a secret lab in an installation," he said, his words slow and labored. "I am unable to quantify their power level, but their signature is far greater than Tenebrous' and Madness Eternal's. Error, error..."
Rogue and the others leaned in closer, trying to make sense of Cerebro's words. Suddenly, the screen went black, and the room was filled with an eerie silence.
"What the hell is going on?" Cable demanded, his eyes narrowed in suspicion.
Rogue, Cable, Gambit, and Kitty Pride exchange worried glances as Cerebro struggles to provide them with more information. Suddenly, the machine cuts out, leaving them in the dark.
"What the hell is going on?" Rogue demands, frustration clear in her voice.
Cable steps forward, his expression grim. "It sounds like Mr. Sinister was up to more than just creating clones. He may have been experimenting with something even more dangerous."
Gambit nods in agreement. "And now we got a possible half-brother to derreck on the loose. We need to find this secret lab and figure out what's going on."
Kitty Pride chimes in, "But we have no idea where to start. We need more information."
Just then, Cerebro comes back online, and they hear the machine speak once again. "Subject is near a secret lab in a... installation. Unable to provide further details. Subject is similar to Derreck. It is possible he is his half-brother."
The group looks at each other in shock. "We need to find that lab," Rogue says firmly. "And we need to do it fast."
The four mutants set out to gather more information and prepare for their mission, knowing that whatever they find at this secret lab could have far-reaching consequences for their world and beyond.
As they pondered their next move, Cerebro suddenly beeped, alerting them to a new development.
"Subject is identified as Derreck's half-brother from the dark multiverse," Cerebro announced, its voice tinged with urgency.
Rogue, Cable, Gambit, and Kitty exchanged a worried glance, unsure of what to do next. The situation was becoming increasingly complicated by the minute, and they were running out of time.
"We need to find that lab," Cable said, his voice low and steady. "Before it's too late."
The others nodded in agreement, determined to track down the lab and stop whoever was behind these clones and temporal anomalies.
As they set out on their mission, they couldn't shake the feeling that they were on the verge of uncovering something massive, something that could shake the very foundations of their reality.
As the voice spoke through Cerebro, Rogue, Cable, Gambit, and Kitty looked at each other in shock. They couldn't believe what they were hearing.
"Who are you?" Cable asked, his eyes narrowing as he spoke.
The voice chuckled. "Oh, that... just dear old brother of Derreck. If you can believe it," he said calmly. "And Mr. Sinister bit off more than he could chew, so I'm going to look for a better deal somewhere else. Enjoy."
Before they could even respond, the voice disappeared, and they were left in stunned silence. But the silence was quickly broken by the sound of Mr. Sinister's screams coming through Cerebro.
They looked at each other and knew they had to act fast. They quickly gathered their things and made their way to the star system that Cerebro had identified.
As they arrived, they could feel the energy in the air, and the laws of physics seemed to be warping around them. They knew they were in for a fight.
Derreck's half-brother greeted him as he pulled up a chair, saying, "Before we begin, I just wanted to say, it's been a long time, brother. There have been misunderstandings, ones that need corrections. If you'll listen for a moment...?"
Laura scoffs at the suggestion that they should listen to Derreck's half-brother, saying, "Right, like he suddenly wants to talk without doing anything bad."
As the team lands their aircraft in the hangar, they notice that the place is in shambles. The clones of Maria and Mr. Sinister are all dead, lying in pieces scattered throughout the area. Multiple Mr. Sinisters are also strewn about, their bodies torn apart as if by some immense force.
The team carefully makes their way through the wreckage, scanning the area for any sign of the half-brother Cerebro had detected. Magneto uses his powers to move some debris out of the way, revealing a hidden door.
"Here, this way," Magneto says, gesturing towards the door.
They cautiously make their way through the doorway and into a dimly lit corridor. The air is thick with the stench of death and decay. As they move deeper into the facility, they come across a room filled with strange, otherworldly devices.
"What the hell is all of this?" Rogue asks, her eyes scanning the room.
"It looks like some sort of interdimensional portal," Kitty replies, her fingers gliding over the controls.
Suddenly, they hear a noise coming from down the hall. They cautiously make their way towards the sound, their weapons at the ready. As they turn the corner, they come face to face with the half-brother.
As they enter the hangar, they see the clones all dead and multiple Mr. Sinisters laying in pieces scattered throughout the area. Suddenly, they hear a voice behind them, and they turn to see Derreck's half-brother. He is a normal-looking old guy with tattoos of various symbols on his arms and neck, with a dragon tattoo over his eye and temple. He appears scrawny with little muscle.
Tenebrous is holding Mr. Sinister up by the mouth, and Madness Eternal is there with his sharp-toothed face twisted into a grin as his tentacles wriggle in anticipation.
Derreck's half-brother greeted him as he pulled up a chair, saying, "Before we begin, I just wanted to say, it's been a long time, brother. There have been misunderstandings, ones that need corrections. If you'll listen for a moment...?"
Derreck would be skeptical as well as the others, and as mr sinister squirmed in tenebrous grip with muffled screams derreck's half brother would simply say...sure you could play a fight...but in the end...it would lead to disaster...seeing as your universe is already at it's brink...just saying...these worthless idiot's couldn't even get the job done...so i might as well play a bargaining chip...and would nudge towards the seat...
Derreck remains skeptical and asks for more information. His half-brother leans back in his chair, giving a sigh.
"Very well. There's an incursion opening up in my universe, and I've been tasked with finding a solution. I need your help to prevent it."
"And why should we help you?" Magneto asks, crossing his arms.
"Because it's in your best interest to do so," Derreck's half-brother replies. "If the incursion isn't stopped, it could destroy both our universes. And besides, I know where Mr. Sinister has been hiding his secrets."
He leans forward, his eyes gleaming with determination. "I can give you the information you need to stop him once and for all."
Derreck's half brother suggests that they take their time to think about it, and he would offer to open a doorway to his domain so that they can meet the rest of the family and discuss their options further. He tells them that he will be waiting for them whenever they are ready to talk.
Derreck and the others agree to take some time to think about it, but they remain skeptical of his intentions. They thank him for his offer but do not commit to anything.
CRRRACCCKK!
After the Mr. Sinister clone fell to the floor with a crushed face, the group looked on in shock. Cable, Gambit, and Rogue were unfazed, having encountered many clones before, but Laura, Derreck, and Logan were visibly shaken by the brutal display.
Derreck's half-brother just shrugged and said, "He was just a clone, you know. A cheap imitation. No need to feel bad about it."
But Derreck couldn't shake the feeling of unease. He knew that if he had been resurrected as a clone, he wouldn't want to be treated as disposable.
As Derreck's half-brother left through the tear in reality, the council stood in silence, processing everything that had transpired. Tenebrous and Madness Eternal followed him, leaving the council with a sense of unease.
After a moment of silence, Logan spoke up, "I don't like it. Something doesn't feel right about this."
Laura nodded in agreement, "He's too eager to work with us. And why should we trust him?"
Magneto added, "And what if he's causing the incursions? We cannot risk opening a doorway to his domain."
Derreck spoke up, "But what if he's telling the truth? What if there's no other way to stop the incursions?"
Rogue chimed in, "We need to consider all our options before making a decision."
The council continued to debate and weigh their options, knowing the stakes were high. As they stood in the silence, they could hear the distant echoes of the dark multiverse rift closing behind Derreck's half-brother, leaving them to ponder their next move.
As they were flying back to Krakoa, they noticed that SHIELD had arrived on the scene, with their ships hovering over the area where Mr. Sinister's lab had been. Cable had a look of concern on his face, as he wondered how much they knew about what had just transpired.
"We need to be careful," Cable said. "SHIELD may have some questions for us."
Rogue nodded in agreement. "We should head straight to the council and let them know what happened."
As they landed, they could see that the council was already in session, with Xavier, Magneto, Emma Frost, and Jean Grey all present. They quickly briefed them on what had happened and showed them the list of timelines that Mr. Sinister had reset.
Magneto was furious. "This is unacceptable. We cannot allow anyone to tamper with the natural order of things in such a manner."
Xavier agreed. "We must ensure that this never happens again. We need to establish safeguards to prevent anyone from using these clones for their own purposes."
Emma Frost nodded. "I suggest we put a team together to investigate all of Sinister's facilities and make sure there are no more clones or any other dangerous experiments."
Jean Grey added, "And we need to keep a close eye on any incursions from other universes. We cannot afford to let anyone manipulate our reality."
As they discussed their next steps, they could see SHIELD agents approaching them. They knew that they had some explaining to do, but they were ready to face whatever questions came their way.
Nick fury and black widow approach them saying...cloning yourselves to bring you back...what were you thinking?
Xavier, Magneto, and Emma Frost, who were present at the time, exchange a look before Xavier clears his throat and steps forward to address Nick Fury and Black Widow.
"We were wrong, Agent Fury. We thought we were bringing back our fallen comrades, but we were only creating clones of them. We have since realized the error of our ways and have put an end to the practice," Xavier explains, his tone somber and regretful.
Black Widow crosses her arms over her chest, eyeing the mutants skeptically. "And what about the clones that were already created? What happened to them?" she asks, her tone accusatory.
"They have been given a choice to stay on Krakoa or leave and make their own way," Magneto interjects, his voice firm. "But we cannot bring back the dead, and we accept the responsibility for the pain and suffering we have caused."
Nick Fury studies the mutants for a moment before sighing and rubbing a hand over his face. "You've caused a lot of damage here, Xavier.
Nick Fury shows them the next video, saying, "This one we managed to intercept in time." The video shows babies coming out of the mutant resurrection pools, but they were lifeless and did not survive.
"I didn't know they disposed of them," Nick Fury says, shaking his head. "But regardless, it's a disturbing practice, to say the least. It's not what we're fighting for. We're here to protect and serve humanity, not to play god."
Black Widow nods in agreement, adding, "We need to think about the consequences of our actions, especially when they involve playing with the very essence of life and death."
The mutants look at each other, realizing the gravity of their actions and the harm they have caused. They vow to do better and to never again engage in such practices.
As Nick Fury turns to leave, he pauses and looks back at the mutants. "After we get through the whole dark multiverse incursions, I can promise a fair trial. Nothing more. That's the best option I've got for your council," he says sternly before exiting the room. The mutants are left to contemplate the gravity of the situation and the consequences of their actions.
…
Destiny sat in her tower, her eyes closed as she focused on the ebb and flow of time. She could sense a change, something that wasn't quite right. It was as if someone had thrown a stone into a still pond, and the ripples were spreading out, affecting everything in their path.
She couldn't quite put her finger on what it was, but she knew that it could have consequences, both good and bad. Destiny knew that the future was never set in stone, but this change was particularly unsettling.
She opened her eyes and looked out across the landscape, deep in thought. There was a war coming, she could sense it. A war unlike any other, one that would change the course of history forever.
Destiny knew that her powers could give her an advantage in this conflict, but she also knew that they could be a curse. She had seen the future, and it wasn't always pleasant.
But she also knew that there was hope. A glimmer of light in the darkness. She couldn't see it clearly, but she knew it was there. A beacon of hope that could lead them all to victory.
Destiny closed her eyes again, focusing on the ripples of time. She needed to be ready for whatever was coming. The fate of the mutant race depended on it.
Destiny meditates on the possible outcomes of the current timeline, seeing the same inevitable future that Maria saw. She sees the possibility of either the mutants perishing or the others, and it troubles her greatly. However, she also notices that something has changed in the timeline, and it could go either way. As she delves deeper into her visions, she sees that the one who leads them all, whether it's for the greater good or not, is Derreck.
This realization leaves Destiny feeling conflicted, as she knows the potential danger that comes with having someone in such a position of power. She sees the potential for abuse and corruption, but also the potential for a new era of prosperity for mutants. She knows that whatever decision they make will have consequences, and it weighs heavily on her mind.
Destiny feels a chill run down her spine as Derreck's gaze meets hers, despite her being in a different place and time. She knows he can't actually see her, but the intensity of his stare makes her feel otherwise. She reaches out with her powers, trying to sense any changes in the timeline that could have led to this moment.
Destiny was so disturbed that she would cut off the connection...and derrecks fingers with his black fingerless gloves would hold open the window in the strings of fate...and look directly at her...much to her shock...
Derreck explains to Destiny that the whole multiverse is on the brink of destruction, and it's all their fault. He tells her about the incursions and the countless universes that have already been destroyed.
As he pries open the window in the strings of fate, he shows her a wasteland that used to be New York, with a massive tear into the dark multiverse above the city. The image makes Destiny uneasy, and she realizes that they had done something terrible to cause the tear.
Then, Derreck's voice turns cold as he says, "And what you all did to Laura... my Laura..." His words trail off, but the malice in his tone is unmistakable. With that, he lets the window close, not wanting to look at Destiny anymore.
As Destiny observed Derreck through the strands of time, she noticed a strange symbol in his eyes that she didn't recognize. It gave off an aura of authority and control, which unsettled her.
Suddenly, the symbol began to shift and change, and Destiny realized that it was being controlled by someone else. She followed the thread of fate back and saw that it was Derreck's half-brother who was controlling him. And then, a horrifying realization struck her - this was all because of something they had done to Laura.
Destiny tried to peer deeper into the timeline, to understand what had happened, but it was shrouded in darkness. She could only make out fragments and whispers. Derreck's half-brother was a master of manipulation, and he had used whatever they had done to Laura as leverage to gain control over Derreck.
Destiny was horrified by what she heard. The thought of mutants killing one another was not new to her, but to hear that they had killed Laura, one of their own, shook her to the core. She desperately tried to deny it, to find some way to rationalize it, but Derreck's words cut deep.
"What do you mean, we killed her?" she asked, her voice trembling with emotion.
Derreck merely looked at her, his eyes cold and distant. "You know what I mean," he said, his voice filled with his half-brother's cryptic tone. "You always do what you think is necessary, Destiny. But sometimes, your actions have consequences that you cannot anticipate."
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Destiny alone with her thoughts. She knew that Derreck's words were true, that she and her fellow mutants had made choices that had led them down a dark path. But she could not accept that they had killed one of their own. She had to find out the truth, no matter what the cost.
