Chapter 70: Last Duel
Team 5D's was all present amidst the flames. The blazing pattern of the Condor ignited the ground surrounding them all.
From the outskirts of the flames, Rua held his sister Ruka's unconscious body close while Sherry watched over them.
Crow stood in his Dark Signer attire, gazing at the rest of his team with a mix of amusement and anticipation.
Meanwhile, Yusei, Jack, and Aki looked back to him with confusion.
"Well – let's see what you all can do." Crow spoke to his opponents. "We'll play like we did against Godwin. You all take turns and then I'll take mine. Of course – this means I'll have three times the amount of Life Points." Crow finished.
"Then – you've already decided to duel. You're that confident you can take all three of us on." Yusei said. It was not a question, rather an observation. There was an edge of caution in his voice.
Crow knew Yusei already considered him an excellent duelist and the knowledge he had become a Dark Signer would only add to his strength.
"If you already decided to face us, there's no other choice! If you're so confident, let's see you handle all of our turns right now!" Jack challenged. "As the traditional First Wheeler of Team 5D's, I should have the right to go first!"
Crow kept his smile and gave Jack a nod.
"In that case - " Crow responded, "Aki and then Yusei will go next. I'll demonstrate how strong I am to you all after you take your turns."
"DUEL!" all four of them yelled out.
JACK: 4000 / AKI: 4000 / YUSEI: 4000 / CROW: 12000
Jack began the first turn of the duel, drawing quickly.
"I'll start by Special Summoning Power Giant by discarding my Power Supplier!" Jack declared.
Then to his right, Power Giant appeared – a huge golem made out of multicolored rocks (6/2200/0)
"Then – Power Giant's level is reduced by level of the monster I discarded as cost! Since Power Supplier was level 2, my monster is now level 4!" Jack stated as Power Giant's level adjusted (6 → 4).
"Next I'll Normal Summon this! Rise – Influence Dragon!" Jack continued as a dark blue thin and humanoid dragon appeared in front of Power Giant (3/300/900).
"And now I'll use Influence Dragon's effect – making a monster I control into a dragon type monster until the End Phase!" Jack said, pointing at Power Giant.
The monster's rock body warped slightly, as scales rose from the blocks making up the monster. A pair of purple wings growing out of Power Giant's back as a crown of spikes grew from its head (Type: ROCK → DRAGON).
"And now that they're both treated as Dragon type monsters – I can tune them together and Synchro Summon!" Jack warned.
Influence Dragon split into three level stars that flew around Power Giant. The stars expanded into rings that Influence Dragon flew through.
"The ruler's shouts echo throughout! Hammer of victory, shatter the very earth!" Jack chanted.
"Synchro Summon – Flap your wings, Explode Wing Dragon!"
The King's ace monster from his Satellite days appeared with a snarl, the hunched over dragon eyeing the field. The creature was purple, orange highlights on the membrane of its wings and the frill on its head.
It was bulky at first glance, but the mass in its back, chest, and shoulders contrasted its thin arms, legs, and waist. To add to the strange appearance of the creature, it had a massive growth on its back that two wings sprouted from (7/2400/1600).
"My early ace from Satellite has arrived. Let's see what the rest of Team 5D's can do. End turn." Jack said, holding three cards.
TURN 2: JACK: 4000 / AKI: 4000 / YUSEI: 4000 / CROW: 12000
"Draw!" Aki said, continuing Team 5D's turn cycle.
"I'll start with the Tuner Monster – Black Rose Witch!" Aki began.
The Gothic monster appeared with a cold stare (4/1700/1200)
"When Black Rose Witch is summoned, I draw a card – and if it's a monster, Black Rose Witch is not destroyed." Aki said, drawing stoically – her Psycho Duelist powers already telling her what type of card it was.
The monster stayed on the field and Aki played another card.
"Next I'll use Seed of Deception to Special Summon Dark Verger from my hand!" Aki continued, as the spiky plant manifested itself (2/0/1000).
"Now – I'll tune all my monsters as well!"
"Hunter of splendid thorns hidden in the sacred forest, with your whip of punishment in hand, come forth now!"
Synchro Summon! Appear now, Splendid Rose!"
Aki commanded as her plant warrior appeared. The right side of the monster's costume was green while the left side was black. Red frills at her ankles resembled a large rose when she stood at attention with both legs together (6/2200/2000).
The blonde fighter quickly took a tall battle stance, readying her whip of thorns.
"Like Jack's monster, mine represents my past as well – when I got my license to be a Riding Duelist and fight alongside all of your in the WRGPX. Let's see if you can overcome her. I'll end my turn with that!" Aki said, leaving her with three cards in her hand.
TURN 3: JACK: 4000 / AKI: 4000 / Yusei: 4000 / Crow: 12000
"Draw!" Yusei said, doing so.
"I'll begin with this! Appear – Junk Synchron!" Yusei exclaimed, as his key Tuner appeared in front of him (3/1300/300).
"I'll use Junk Synchron's effect to revive Power Supplier!" Yusei said as Jack's discarded monster appeared, a grinning warlock with two energy pods on its shoulders (2/400/400).
"Then I'll tune them both together!" Yusei said as his monsters separated into rings and stars.
"Clustering stars call upon a new force! Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro Summon! Appear now – Junk Warrior!"
In a flash, Junk Warrior appeared, twin scarves lightly moving as the monster hovered, fists clenched and ready for battle (5/2300/1300).
"Then – I'll set a card." Yusei said, giving him four left in hand.
"The monster representing my bonds has arrived. Now you'll need to overcome all three of our Synchro Monsters! Turn end."
Crow grinned at the assembled monsters while Rua looked optimistic.
TURN 4: JACK: 4000 / AKI: 4000 / YUSEI: 4000 / CROW: 12000
"Finally I can begin! Draw!" Crow exclaimed.
"First, since I control no monsters, I can Special Summon this! Dark Tuner – Wings of Death!" Crow stated.
A large and emaciated vulture appeared, hanging its head as it draped its' long wings around its body (-10/0/0).
"Dark Tuner!?" Jack said, stunned Crow had one – and had played it so quickly.
"That's right. And this Dark Tuner can Dark Synchro with a monster in my hand!" Crow said.
"But before I do that, I'll play this! The Field Spell – Chaos Boundary!"
At the activation of the card, a ripple was seen, spreading through the field. It made the whole area distorted as it waned from slight flickers of light and dark.
After he did that, Crow discarded a level three Black Feather monster.
"Now I'll activate Wings of Death's effect! I can use it and a monster in my hand to do this! Dark Tuning!"
Wings of Death's body dissolved into ten black stars that all spun around in a circle. As this happened, Crow's freshly discarded monster – Blackfeather – Etesian of Two Swords - appeared in the middle of the circle, its body reduced to an orange outline. The creature's shrieking stopped as it's body was destroyed by the circle of dark stars that shattered its three natural level stars within.
Seven stars remained, spinning as a pillar of darkness shot out from the center.
"When Shadows are devoured by darker Shadows – The Wings of the Netherworld will open. Dark Synchro! Fly high to gaze down upon the world! A world without light! - Dark Skull Kaiser!"
Crow commanded as his monster landed, the winged beast clad in dark mechanical armor, complete with a red V shaped visor in the middle of its head. Its' mechanical wings were bladed and it carried a set of high tech revolvers on each hip (-7/2500/2000).
"Since I Dark Synchro Summoned – I can draw a card due to my Field Spell!" Crow said, doing so, giving him four to use.
Now - you'll all recognize this - The Continuous Spell – Black Whirlwind!" Crow said, playing the next card.
"And now for my Normal Summon."
He put a second card on his Duel Disk and Black Feather – Zephyros the Elite appeared before him (4/1600/1000).
"Now – since I Normal Summoned Zephyros – Black Whirlwind lets me add a 'Black Feather' monster with less attack power to my hand. So I'll add my Tuner Monster, Gale the Whirlwind!"
Crow added the card, giving him three cards in hand.
"Next, since I control a 'Black Feather' monster, I can Special Summon that same Gale from my hand!"
Crow did so as his Tuner emerged (3/1300/400).
And now – !" Crow said, gesturing to his Gale. " - use your effect to weaken Splendid Rose!"
With a blast of wind, Aki's monster groaned and lost half its' attack power (2200 → 1100).
"Finally – I can perform my own Synchro Summon! I tune Gale with Zephyros!"
"Darkened gales, become the wings which will soar to the heavens! Synchro Summon! Black Feather – Armored Wing!"
From the blast of light his Blackfeather Armored Wing appeared, crossing its' arms at the other three Duelists (7/2500/2000).
"Due to the effect of Chaos Boundary, once per turn, I draw a card when a monster is Synchro Summoned as well!" Crow explained, now holding three cards.
"Now – here's a final monster – I special summon Blackfeather - Bora the Spear!" Crow continued.
The lancer appeared with a jagged smile, in the center of Crow's three monsters (4/1700/800).
Crow grinned from ear to ear as he'd finished assembling his field of monsters.
"I'll set my remaining hand." Crow finished as two set cards appeared behind his monsters.
"Finally – the Battle Phase! Dark Skull Kaiser – attack Explode Wing Dragon!" Crow began as the armored warrior pulled out its dark red guns.
"I'll use Dark Skull Kaiser's effect – if it battles with a monster, that monster is destroyed before the Damage Step and you take half the attack as damage – and since my monster is stronger – yours' will be destroyed!" Crow said with a big grin.
"Blood Trigger!" Crow finished as Dark Skull Kaiser began firing his twin guns.
"What?!" Jack exclaimed as his dragon shattered apart, the fragments grazing Jack's arm. The man grunted as he took half the attack as damage, aware that the impact stung with throbbing pain (JACK: 4000 → 2800).
"So much for your old Satellite days!" Crow taunted before looking to the next Synchro monster on Team 5D's field.
"And now – Bora the Spear – destroy Splendid Rose!" Crow beckoned. Crow's monster swooped down, spear extended.
Splendid Rose was struck from the brutal stab and screamed before shattering. Aki tisked as she felt the battle damage (AKI: 4000 → 3400).
"That's two down. Then – Armored Wing! Shatter Junk Warrior!"
The Blackfeather flew at Yusei's monster, meeting Junk Warrior's fist and breaking through it with a single punch (Yusei: 4000 → 3800).
Yusei's Synchro Warrior broke apart, Yusei taking a step back as he felt the damage sting.
"Hmph! If that was the best you all could do, this is already over! I'll end my turn!"
"Jack! You spoke of our shared past in Satellite – but we both know how that story ended!"
"Aki! You tried to remind me of our growth as members of Team 5D's – but at the end of the day you fell short!"
"Yusei! Even the bonds that tie us all together aren't enough!" Crow said, looking deadly serious at the group.
"Now do you understand? Your combined resolve cannot stop this!" Crow finished
"Shut up! You're just an Earthbound God manipulating Crow – so let him speak for himself!" Jack yelled.
"I'm just being honest with you all." Crow responded, his smirk fading into a serious glance. "This isn't the Immortal talking to you right now – it's really me!"
"Crow?!" Jack looked stunned.
"None of you helped me against Warren. It was the Dark Signers that came to my rescue. So it's only fitting that I ended up with this power! The Crimson Dragon abandoned us – so this is the only path left for me to walk!" Crow shouted, now sounding more angry than confident.
Yusei's retort was a trap card springing up.
"I see we can't talk you out of this right now – then at the End Phase – my trap – Ray of Hope! Bringing back a monster you destroyed earlier this turn!" Yusei declared as Jack's Explode Wing Dragon appeared with a growl (7/2400/1600).
Jack tisked. "Yusei. I can handle this myself."
Crow smirked. "That proves it Jack – you're only as strong as the people holding you up. Isn't that right, Jack?" Crow taunted. "I've used up my entire hand – now – can you three break up my field?"
TURN 5: JACK: 2800 / AKI: 3400 / YUSEI: 3800
"My turn!"
Jack drew his next card quickly, now holding four cards.
"I see you have your Explode Wing Dragon ready to use because of Yusei's card." Crow said. "Back in the WRGPX you wouldn't have that luxury. Now – are you going to face me with your real strength or just get by on what scraps Yusei saves for you?"
"Maybe – the me in the past would have given into my pride and fallen for your bait – but now I, Jack Atlus, know that true strength is attained alongside others! Crow – I've only just begun to fight! If you want a Duel of Power – Jack Atlus will gladly give it to you!" Jack said as he made a fist with he free hand.
"Then do it, First Wheeler! Show me what Jack Atlus can do in this situation!" Crow shouted back, using Jack's title on Team 5D's as a further taunt.
"I will! First – I'll use the Tuner monster – Dark Sprocket!" Jack's Tuner appeared, a flat rounded creature that was pitch black with two cold blue eyes with dark red outlines. A large gear wrapped around its body and a long, winding chain dangled from that (1/400/0).
"Hold on!" Crow retorted. "Before you Synchro Summon – I'll use a trap card – Blackboost!" Crow said. "Since I control at least two Black Feather monsters – I can draw two more cards!" Crow said, doing so.
"Now that you did that – I'll tune both my monsters together!" Jack declared.
Jack raised a hand as his Tuner flew into the air, chain wrapping around his existing Synchro monster, dissolving into a ring that Explode Wing Dragon flew through.
"The ruler's heartbeats will now file through here! Bear witness to a power that will shake all of creation! Synchro Summon – My very soul, Red Demon's Dragon!"
Jack finished speaking as his Red Demon's Dragon appeared with a deep roar (8/3000/2000).
The creature needed no introduction as it stared across the field, hunched over and tense as though it was impatient to battle.
"Hmph. A Signer Dragon already. Though since it's Jack's, that is to be expected." Crow said, looking unfazed at Jack's latest summon.
Crow drew a card due to his Field Spell and chuckled. "Don't forget – Chaos Boundary works on any player's turn – meaning I can draw another card when you Synchro Summon!" Crow spoke up, giving him three cards in hand.
"Don't be too comfortable with that effect!" Jack warned. "Now I'll use the effect of Dark Sprocket! Since I used it to Synchro Summon a Dark monster, I can destroy a Spell or Trap you control – like that Field Spell!"
Jack said, waving his arm back and pointing at the Field card for emphasis.
A ghost of Dark Sprocket appeared with a dark laugh, a purple beam firing from it at Crow's field Spell card.
"Not quite!" Crow grinned. "I use the effect of my Field Spell – letting a Synchro or Dark Synchro monster take the hit instead!"
Crow's Black Feather - Armored Wing flew in front of the beam and dissolved from contact with it, leaving the Field Spell unharmed.
Jack tisked.
"Chaos Boundary even has its own protective effect." Aki said, wondering how many abilities Crow's new field card had.
"And it gives Crow advantages when he controls Synchro or Dark Synchro monsters." Yusei added as he anticipated the card would complicate things.
"Then – I'll show no mercy! It's time for me to battle!" Jack declared.
"Red Demon's Dragon! Attack Bora the Spear! ABSOLUTE POWER FORCE!"
Red Demon's took to the skies, diving at Crow's weakest monster.
With a dragon's blazing fist, Crow's Bora shattered apart and the flames washed over its controller. Crow winced slightly as he took damage for the first time (Crow: 12000 → 10700).
"Not bad! I felt that one, Jack!" Crow yelled with a smile.
"Way to go, Jack!" Rua said from outside the barrier, doing a fist-pump.
"Yes, but they still have a long way to go." Sherry observed. "Especially since Crow can draw so many cards from Chaos Boundary. Team 5D's reliance on Synchro Summoning will ensure he keeps drawing extra cards."
Jack glanced at his hand of three cards, then back up to Crow's own hand of three.
"I'll set two cards. Turn end." Jack said, now holding one card, as Aki continued where he left off.
"Then at the End Phase – I can revive a Synchro Monster that I sacrificed for Chaos Boundary's effect!" Crow said as Armored Wing returned.
TURN 6: JACK: 2800 / AKI: 3400 / YUSEI: 3800 / CROW: 10700
Aki drew a fourth card for her turn and immediately acted.
"I'll take it from here – summoning Glow-Up Bulb (1/100/100)!"
Aki's level one Tuner appeared as she wasted no time.
"Now I'll use a Trap Card from Jack – Lost Star Descent! Letting me use Exploder Dragonwing as well – but reducing its level by one, and reducing its defense to zero!"
The Synchro appeared in Defense Mode, turning blue (7/2400/1600 → 6/2400/0) as Aki spoke.
"Next, Glow Up Bulb, Explode Wing Dragon – Tuning!"
"Chilling flames engulf the entire world!
Pitch Dark Flower – Set into bloom!
Synchro Summon!
"Appear – Black Rose Dragon!"
Aki's Dragon appeared with a roar (7/2400/1700), prompting Crow to draw again. Now he was holding four cards.
"You still can't get over my Dark Synchro – and on top of that you're not about to sacrifice your friends' field just to use Black Rose Dragon's effect. Not after Jack summoned out Red Demon's Dragon." Crow mused.
"Are you sure about that?" Aki asked with a smile, glancing at her team's set cards. "From where I'm standing, destroying your entire field would leave you wide open! And without that Field Spell you'd be at a severe disadvantage!"
Crow grinned. "Bring it on!"
"Crow! Don't think for a second I'm going to leave you with that field intact! Black Rose Dragon's effect activates to destroy every card on the field! Black Rose Gale!"
Winds picked up around them all as Black Rose Dragon's destructive effect began. Her wings bristled outwards as rose petals began blowing around the geoglyph.
Crow grinned. "Just like I planned! I counter with this!" Crow retorted.
"The trap card Gravity Collapse! I tribute a Synchro Monster like my Armored Wing to negate that effect – destroying your Black Rose Dragon too!"
"Gravity Collapse!?" Yusei said out loud, surprised at the latest card Crow had used.
Armored Wing faded away as Black Rose Dragon shattered, her effect completely nullified.
"I knew your Black Rose Dragon would be a problem – but not anymore!" Crow said, grinning as Aki looked stunned. "Tributing a Synchro to stop a Synchro. It's a small cost to pay to shut down that troublesome effect of Black Rose Dragon's."
"That trap card – the one you beat Hidden Knight Hook with!" Aki realized.
Crow laughed. "Of course I thought about using it to counter you. What Duelist doesn't think of ways to fight his rivals and friends?"
"This isn't a joke!" Aki shot back. "You're a Dark Signer – and you're acting like this is fine?! Like this duel is just a game!?"
"Other than a quest of revenge against Security, this is all I have left." Crow said, his humor suddenly gone.
"The Immortal inside me has made that very clear. So, yes, I am trying to enjoy myself. Especially since this is the last duel I'll ever have with all of you! That's one Signer Dragon down!"
Aki glanced at the field. A silver lining to Black Rose Dragon being stopped was the set card she shared with her team. Additionally there was still Red Demon's Dragon protecting them all. And now Crow only had one monster left protecting him.
"Then – I at least forced your hand with that trap card. I end my turn." Aki said simply. She had three cards left in her hand.
"Yusei. Jack. That Warren person Crow mentioned – even if Crow beat him in a duel – he still has some unresolved anger."
TURN 7: JACK: 2800 / AKI: 3400 / YUSEI: 3800 / CROW: 10700
Yusei drew a fifth card for his turn.
"I'll continue this! First! I activate One For One – discarding Turbo Synchro to Special Summon AD Changer!" Yusei declared as his level one monster appeared. It was a small man with spiky hair, wearing ceremonial robes and holding a red and a blue flag in each hand (1/100/100).
"Then I Release AD Changer to Advance Summon Salvage Warrior!"
Yusei's bulky monster appeared with a grunt. It was a blue skinned demon wearing an orange jacket, green pants, and having two large chains attached to each arm (5/1900/1600).
"When you summon that guy – I'll do this – and activate the effect of a monster in my hand." Crow smirked, discarding a card. As Salvage Warrior's effect went off, Yusei noticed that his Junk Synchron had just been banished from his Graveyard.
"I know you, Yusei. You'll try and go for a higher level Synchro using your Salvage Warrior's effect. But that's not happening now. I'll discard my DD Crow to banish your Junk Synchron."
Yusei's Tuner slid out of his Graveyard and was banished. "Crow. You chose to banish Junk Synchron before I targeted it with Salvage Warrior . . . ?" Yusei mused.
"Remember – I want you to Synchro Summon so I can keep drawing cards! That's more important than making Salvage Warrior's effect miss the timing. I just want to restrict your options. Without Junk Synchron as material, there's only so much you can do." Crow pointed out.
Yusei's reaction was to close his eyes, going silent as he tried to collect his thoughts.
"What is Crow thinking? He could've cut off Yusei's Synchro Summoning just then!" Rua said out loud. "Unless . . . drawing cards is that much more important to him." The teenager finished.
"Crow is not making any mistakes." Sherry said. "I think he's wanting to see how far Yusei will go to try and break his field this turn. After all – as long as anyone Synchro Summons, he gets another card. Additionally – with Black Whirlwind he can recruit more Black Feather monsters just with a normal summon."
Yusei thought of an alternate strategy for a moment, visualizing it in his mind as a white line shot from card to card, from the field, to the Graveyard, and then back to the field. He found the path and opened his eyes, now with the resolve he needed to get through the turn.
"Then – I'll just have to do this instead!" Yusei declared. "I'll activate Salvage Warrior's effect! When this card has been summoned, I can revive a Tuner monster in my Graveyard! Appear! Turbo Synchron!""
Salvage Warrior raised an arm and it revived Turbo Synchron, who did a flip before landing on the field (1/100/500).
"And now I'll tune Salvage Warrior with Turbo Synchron!"
Turbo Synchron's black visor snapped into place, the green tuner flying in front of Salvage Warrior as the two tuned together.
"Clustering bonds weave a greater force! Become the path that lights the way!
Synchro Summon! Rev your engines – Turbo Warrior!"
(6/2500/1500).
Once again, Crow drew a fourth card.
"Turbo Warrior is unaffected by your level two or lower monster effects! In other words - !" Yusei began.
" - Your Dark Synchro won't survive this battle!" Jack finished.
"Good move, Yusei. Summoning a monster like Turbo Warrior that can counter that Dark Synchro." Aki praised. "If we can get that off the field, we'll have Crow on the defensive."
Yusei extended a hand as he commanded his monster.
"Battle! Turbo Warrior – attack Crow's Dark Skull Kaiser!"
Turbo Warrior flew low to the ground, speeding towards the Dark Synchro as Dark Skull Kaiser drew both guns and began firing at the rival Synchro.
The destruction effect didn't phase Yusei's monster as it slammed a claw into the Dark Synchro's chest. Dark Skull Kaiser pointed a gun at Turbo Warrior's head as an explosion occurred from the two's battle.
"Too bad!" Crow said with a grin. "They have the same attack power – so looks like Turbo Warrior is gone as well."
Yet Yusei's monster was still standing unharmed once the smoke cleared.
"How did you - ? Crow began.
"I used the effect of AD Changer before the battle – banishing it to force your Dark Skull Kaiser into defense mode." Yusei explained.
"However - ! Since Dark Skull Kaiser was destroyed, I can activate its final effect – Special Summoning THIS!" Crow said, now with a wide-eyed grin.
A pillar of fire shot up from where Crow's Dark Synchro once stood, revealing a thin demon, wearing a golden mask, trails of fire emerging from its shoulders and arms. A trail of smoke billowed from the back of its head as the creature kneeled in front of Crow.
Kazama's Demon Chaos King appeared on Crow's field in Defense mode, shocking all of Team 5D's (6/2600/2600).
"D – Demon Chaos King!?" Rua shouted in disbelief.
"T-that means - !" Yusei thought out loud.
"No way! You took Kazama's card!?" Jack yelled. To this Crow grinned.
"I did. Consider that proof I'm still myself. Defeating Security – even if it was Kazama - was something I had to accept. Wiraqocha Rasca has made that clear to me. Now – are you finished with your turn?"
Jack looked to Demon Chaos King and then to Yusei.
"Not quite. Yusei. You know what Kazama would want. It's what I would want as well! Red Demon's will follow those wishes!" Jack said and Yusei nodded.
"Then – Red Demon's Dragon will continue our attack." Yusei said, pointing to Kazama's monster.
"Red Demon's Dragon! Attack Demon Chaos King! Absolute Power Force!" Jack roared, speaking for Yusei.
His dragon shattered the other demonic Synchro apart and Crow chuckled.
"So you got over Kazama's card before I could attack with it! I'm impressed but – that's still not enough!"
"Still – I have more in store! I'll set two cards and end my turn!" Yusei said, exhausting the rest of his hand.
To this, Crow grinned. "Good. You burned through your entire hand. That means I should be able to outlast all of you!"
"We're ready for you, Crow! Bring all your anger about Security to bear and we'll be there to blow it away!" Yusei countered. To this Crow tisked.
TURN 8: JACK: 2800 / AKI: 3400 / YUSEI: 3800 / CROW: 10700
Crow drew a card, holding five now in his hand.

Crow's white Tuner monster appeared with a coo, flapping its small wings (2/1300/0) as Crow's ninja themed Blackfeather appeared next to it (2/500/800).
"Once again, Black Whirlwind lets me add a 'Black Feather' monster to my hand – such as Vayu the Emblem of Honor!" Crow stated, giving him three cards again.
"Next – I'll return Black Whirlwind to my hand – and pay 400 of my own life points to Special Summon Zephyros the Elite from my Graveyard!"
Crow's next monster appeared with a roar, crossing it's arms as it rose again (4/1600/1000).
Crow didn't react at all to the minimal drop in his own life points (CROW: 10700 → 10300). He glanced at the six cards in his hand briefly before looking to his own field.
"His levels all add up to eight – and he has three Black Feather monsters." Yusei pointed out, steadying himself.
"So – we're facing Lone Silver Wind – are we?" Jack asked.
"Or maybe even – Blackfeather Dragon?!" Aki wondered out loud.
Crow chuckled. "You're wrong on both counts."
"I'll use another ability of my Field Spell – letting me treat all my monsters' levels as positive or negative for the turn – but the only monsters I can summon from the Extra Deck this turn are Synchro or Dark Synchro monsters!"
"Now – once again – Dark Tuning!" Crow yelled, spreading out his arms.
"When the curtain of darkness comes down, even the purest light will be subjugated by the shadows!
Dark Synchro – Rise up on new wings – Black Feather – Dark Rage Dragon!"
Jack, Aki, and Yusei all took a step back, faces full of shock as Crow's newest monster burst through the summon.
A shadow fell on the three Duelists Crow faced. A serpentine body with thin feathery plumage, and rib-like protrusions from the creature's chest were still hallmarks of this dragon's design.
However – the similarities ended there. The creature looked emaciated, it's eye sockets hollow as a thin purple light shone through, suggesting it still could see. The feathers were all ragged and torn - as though the beast itself was falling apart. The creature let out a hiss as it spread it's skeletal wings
(-8/2800/1700).
