Here is Chapter 2. Same stuff as before, I own nothing, OCs are mine. Yadda, yadda, yadda. And before you say I yadda yaddad over the best part, I mentioned the bisque.
Chapter 2
As the drive went on, Kat discovered that Agatha was a University student studying field biology, and Beatrice was her roommate. Beatrice was actually an American transfer student from Newark, New Jersey, studying the venoms of snakes and spiders. And according to her, what better place to do that then the continent with all the best kinds of venoms. Her and Cori shared the same sense of humor as they made jokes and quips in the backseat. Agatha breathed out a slow sigh.
"How haven't you killed her yet?" She asked Kat. Kat copied her actions.
"Hard to make it look like an accident." She said. Agatha nodded. She was about to say more when the engine gave a sputtering, steam escaping from around the edges of the hood, the jeep coasting to a stop on the side of the road. Agatha looked over her shoulder at Beatrice.
"You forgot to put more fluid in the radiator, didn't you?" She asked. Beatrice's eyes flicked from side to side.
"If I say "yes", will I be in less trouble?" She asked. Agatha rolled her eyes, getting out of the car, followed by the two kids. Beatrice stumbled out as Agatha opened the hood, stepping back as a cloud of steam erupted into the air. She waved it off and looked the engine over.
"Yep. You did." She said, now moving to the glovebox. Beatrice whistled innocently.
"Kat? Can you do me a favor?" Agatha asked. Kat nodded.
"On it." She said. She walked over to Beatrice, motioned her to lean in. When Beatrice complied, she was rewarded with a sharp slap on the back of the head.
"Thank you." Agatha said, coming back with a road map. Beatrice rubbed the sore spot, glaring at Kat.
"Lucky you are a minor." She said. Cori snorted as she leaned against the car.
"Never stopped me." She said. Before Kat could say anything, Agatha spoke up.
"There is a little station up the road a ways. Me and Kat can go get some water. You and Cori can watch the car." She said.
"Um, what's the Australian version of an inbred Hillbilly?" Cori asked.
"Yeah, this has the whole 'Hills have Eyes' plot vibe going on." Beatrice said.
"I was thinking more 'Texas Chainsaw'." Cori said.
"Well, don't worry, we will say something nice at the funeral." Agatha said as she and Kat walked down the road. Cori called out.
"The blondes go first!" She was ignored, leaving her to lean against the jeep with Beatrice.
A few hours later, the two were chatting and bonding over a bag of warm jellybeans. Cori popped a few in her mouth and made a sound of appreciation.
"You're right, they do taste better warm." She said. Beatrice nodded.
"The trick is to get them before they start to get all melted and sticky." She said. Cori was about to say more when her ears perked up. Beatrice noticed her go quiet.
"What's wrong?" She asked, but only got a shush from Cori, who had taken her glasses off and closed her eyes. It was the nearest to being blind she could get, so as to trick her ears to listen like they use too.
"There are no sounds in the forest." She said. Beatrice was getting nervous.
"What does that mean?" She asked.
"It means something is hunting out there." She said, opening her eyes, but keeping her glasses off.
"Too right, there, mates." A new voice said. Beatrice and Cori whirled around to see a very grubby and disheveled man dressed in rags and holding a rifle. Both girls raised their arms up, Cori squinting to try and see the threat in front of them.
"What kind of gun is that?" She asked. Beatrice gulped.
"The kind that can make a big hole in us." She said.
"Oh, that kind. I know that kind." Cori said, voice not as even as she would have liked it.
"What do you think you are doing on my property?" The man said.
"Our jeep broke down. Our friends went to go get water for our radiator. Then we will be outta here, man." Beatrice said. The man stepped closer.
"How about you leave now, and I don't shoot ya?" He said. Beatrice nodded franticly.
"Sure thing. Sorry for trespassing. We will just got tell our friends to hurry up and you won't see us after." She said, ushering Cori down the road. A shot rang out, making the two scream and start running, not looking back at the man approaching their jeep.
